Sunday morning greetings!  More snow in SW Ohio, just like they predicted.

DR Elmore:  The web site, and your page in particular, are wonderful.  What a great project.

Since my mother's side of the family was from Morgantown, WV, a few of my childhood memories of visits to family -- and especially friends of family -- during the '50s were always tinged with a hint of the flavor of Appalachia.  Just a hint, mind you.  But it's a special thing.

I'm especially grateful to have a memory or two of my great grandfather who had been a coal miner.  Here he is with me and my sister.

Your grandfather looks a bit like my mother's father who died wen I was two, in 1948.  His ghost occasionally turned up in our house to disturb my mother and to frighten neighborhood kids and my brother Randy. I suspect he was the source of the footsteps walking across our empty attic floor between midnight and 6am. It happened way too often to creep out visitors and scare the hell out of Macbeth and me.

Just checked -- mine died in 1954, a bit later than I was thinking.  So I was five then, and I remember being at the funeral home in Morgantown.

My first real memory as a child is the 1948 funeral, the flowers, Broad Street shiny with ice, and the street lights reflected in that ice. My second memory is lying in front of my grandmother's fireplace with a coloring book around Christmas - God alone knows what year; 1948? 1949? - and family coming in and out wearing lots of heavy coats.  Lots of murmurs about hospital and my Aunt Jean's miscarriage.

And I cannot remember what I did yesterday.

DR Elmore, one of my chores this week is to find a copy of "The Heiress" movie.  Thanks for the nudge.

I'm off to a day in church.

The Jennifer Jason Leigh/Albert Finney remake was meh.

Got an invite to see a high school production of "Bonnie and Clyde" this afternoon. I guess there's always a first time to see a Frank Wildhorn musical. At least I like much of the score of this one.

DR Ginny, it looks as though the reading of "Christmas Up The Holler" at the York will be some time between April 14 and 25th. Those are the dates that DJ proposed and we're waiting for the York to settle on something.

I'm up, I'm up - guess I needed a long and good sleep after the four hours of the previous night.  Now I must get my wits about me and write.
