  Oats

Mares eat oats!      :)

That, indeed, was another one of our favorite songs.  Thanks for reminder.  Now why in the HELL didn't I think of it?

And this George M. Cohan album was actually the first I ever owned.

'Twas, indeed.      :)      And the original cast recording of Oliver.   And the soundtracks to Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Doctor Doolittle.

Yikes, something brought me to the discussion again before i read the notes.  I'll remedy that now.

Re the TOD:  There was a silly song called "Dilly Dally" - the lyric went something like

"When it's worth doing do it well, not like a turtle in its shell, keep your eyes wide open and run pell-mell (sp?)
Singing dilly dally, don't dilly-dally, dilly-dilly-dally-dee"

I liked the philosophy somehow.

Monday!

Thanks to everyone for the wonderful vibes.  We had a good show yesterday and a fine audience.  Today is the first day of classes after Winter Term, so I imagine we will have a lot of students in the audience tonight.....even though it will be -20 degrees or so in the "feels like" department.

I think I had that record, too, DR FJL.

I don't remember having a LOT of children's records....I jumped right into buying 45's and ninety nine cent LP's from the grocery store.

HOWEVER the one children's record I remember clearly and think was TOPS was one I bought for my sister Molly when she was about three - it was Marlo Thomas' FREE TO BE YOU AND ME....

The photos of Taylor Swift losing the album Grammy seem to be trending.

The controversy over Taylor Swift's look of surprise when she didn't win the Grammy is looking more like she heard the "R" sound of the winner and thought they were saying "Red" the name of her album, actually was surprised for a second before the full name of the winner was named.

I had a phonograph when I was little and I know I had records.  The only one I remember with any clarity is the one that I was playing when I developed my first "sick" (i.e. migraine) headache:  "Teddy Bears Picnic".

Ugh!

Of course, this was the biggie.

What is MOST interesting about this photo is that the album bears the RCA Records logo.  Of course, Disney issued the OST on Buena Vista.

The LP was the record of the month, however, for the RCA Record Club and my mono OST in this foldout jacket came to me from RCA with the RCA logo on the LP.   Oddly, all listings of OST issues of this title that I have seen never recognizes the issue on RCA.

My copy was on Buena Vista. I guess I just selected this photo online without checking out the label.

One of the records I remember having was the theme song from "Davy Crockett".  That one disappeared eons ago, more's the pity.

I also had a "Sleeping Beauty" recording (on LP) that featured color frames from the movie on the cover and had a cover vocalist (Darlene Gillespie?) singing Aurora's songs.

And here is the only verification in family photos with me and two of the high school football team: my Uncle Bob on the left with the neighbor boy, Jack Reck, and me.

Growing up, my best friend had this mirrored thingamabob that fit over the central spindle post on his phonograph. That, combined with the images printed on the accompanying LP labels, created this animation that you could view in the mirror while listening to the LP. I have no recollection what the label or manufacturer was called.

Hell, we're having ourselves a little one-day thaw here.  It's almost 40 degrees, and I just grabbed the short window of opportunity by the horns and shovel-scraped the inch-and-a-half of sh stuff remaining from Saturday's little snow event.  Front sidewalk and enough of the driveway are more or less clean and ready for the next assault.

I LOVE this LP.  I still use it in class and most of my classes know the title song by heart.  They don't make them like they used to.
