Hi, Danise!
I forgot about the Europa Cafe being at "our" corner until Laura and I passed it on the taxi ride to the airport Monday morning. Another "next time" thing, I guess.
There has been a lot of sobbing over the elimination of Mikalah Gordon last night on IDOL. So many folks are saying that she was funny and wacky and made the show fun and interesting.
Well - DR RODZINSKI, there is always the Arch Hall, Jr musical yet to be written! And that would HAVE to include "Valerie"!
Last night, I watched the last of the MGM/UA titles I am returning (which, strangely, is a Miramax title), Chocolat.DR JMK - My book group read Chocolat several years ago and then went to see the movie when it was released. It's one of my favorite films and I listen to the score often while I'm working.
If I had... a billion dollars... and a banker's salary...
Hmm... I was just reading an e-mail I got from a friend. She noted that this weekend is a sort of strange convergence of "things":
Good Friday, The Annunciation, Purim, AND a Full Moon
DR Larry Elmore (that is my new dream-like name for you :)): I have performed under Marin's baton (so to speak). I was the featured pianist at an Oregon Symphony Gospel Christmas concert many years ago. Marin was singing along as she conducted. I found her a bit hard to follow, but that's probably just me, as I am not a trained symphony musician.
OBSTREPEROUS...
Underpants
...And there's a lovely story about the memorial for Jerry Orbach that was held at the Richard Rodgers Theatre yesterday over on Playbill.com.
Elmore3003 have you seen the 1905 Wizard of Oz photos (from a stage production) that are on EBay? Very interesting shots and quite good costumes.
My cuddle bunny didn’t have a name, until last night when we named him Larry.
I am listening to the Swingle Singers doing Bach as I catch up on various work items at the computer.
Last night, I watched the last of the MGM/UA titles I am returning (which, strangely, is a Miramax title), Chocolat. I did the commentary and bonuses last night, which I had not gotten around to on my first viewing. What a sweet little film that is. Does anyone else think Juliette Binoche and Julia Roberts look like sisters? I think they should do a film together.
Oh, hey, we never saw a pic of the BKBEAR that vixmom sent to MR BK. Where is he residing now? We need pics!
Yes and no!
Call me prejudiced but I think Juliette is prettier -- not as SKINNY and gaunt! -- than Julia!
I found CHOCOLAT maudlin and dull; Mr Depp is bored and boring... (My opinion of course! ;))
Give me Babette's Feast any time! :D
I saw WHERE WERE YOU WHEN THE LIGHTS WENT OUT at Radio City Music Hall during one of my summer visits to the city. I liked it, but I LOVED Day's WITH SIX YOU GET EGGROLL even more, and that turned out to be her last film!
;D ;D Hey we can change his name if you don't like it. :)
Hey, you were in my dream--I think it's you who's stalking me!! 8)
Jane, great minds think alike: I actually thought Lena Olin was Barbara Hershey the first time I watched Chocolat! Remember when she was Barbara Seagull?
DR T-o-O: Do you know an Aussie film that has a plot about a man with gills who lives next door to two women. One he loves, but she won't have him, and the other loves him, but he won't have her. Ultimately, he becomes a fish and begins living in water....or something like that.No belles or bells here RLP.
Ring any Aussie bells????
Hiya Folks!
I may have to go to the store and get me some Cadbury Chocolate and Caramel Eggs. I should stock up, because they're only available at Easter, and I love those things. On second thought, maybe I shouldn't stock up.
Of course there is Cadbury Factory right near OzDerek's family home in Hobart Tasmania.
Can anyone with a PayPal account try logging-in and see what happens? I've been getting this message for the last hour:

Thanks!!!!
I have been told the Cadbury eggs made in England are better than the ones we have. How about the ones made in Hobart?I think DR Jose would be qualified to answer that. My experience of American confectionary is ---------------! Chocolate could not be made LEGALLY in Australia like that.
Many business let employees off for Good Friday.
Hot Cross buns for Easter is a new and interesting fact for me. :)
If I had a cat his name would be Catbury!
Original, no?! ;)
Francois, the commentary on Chocolat actually goes into quite a bit of detail about the English cast doing a French story. Juliette Binoche evidently wanted an international cast attached, which is one of the reasons so many other nationalities are in the film.
I WISH they were taking my advice, but given the Weissler's history of NOT doing fiscally responsible things, I think they simply realized they were going to get creamed by the NY crix, and that Christina was really making noises about enforcing her contract so that she could open the show.
I've also heard that the production was truly bad. They had all this revisionism going on, and all these "fixes" they put in, including a couple of new songs, cutting the entire first scene and song, and deleting I Love to Cry at Weddings, and turning Rhythm of Life into some kind of hip hop number. In the last couple of weeks they'd realized that these "fixes" were not fixing anything because the original show was not broke. So, one by one they were putting the show back the way it was - a good deal of the opening scene was restored, the replacement for I Love to Cry at Weddings was replaced with I Love to Cry at Weddings, and on and on. These people need to stop hiring people who have no respect for the vehicle their reviving. They need to hire people who understand the show they're doing, and who don't think they're better or smarter than the better and smarter people who originally put the show together.
If I ever get my own cat, I want to name it Berkeley using the British pronounciation of "Barkly" (as in "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square"). Cute, huh? ;D
TIVO-THE PALM BEACH STORY
Currently I’m listening to the sounds of the vacuum cleaner. Hey, as long as I’m not the one pushing it I won’t complain. ;D
Joey, my vote is you go vegetarian for Lent. :)
JMK I agree you should save the envelopes with those stamps-pretty cool.
Ashland doesn’t have a Jewish bakery. :(

She had also evidently lived with the author of the book for quite a while before David Brown and the other producers had optioned the book.
When I was in NEw York last week I said to someone when we were walking by the marquee for Sweet Charity. (A picture of Christina Applegate) That is the closest she is going to get to Broadway with this show. I guess I was right

I like Australian chocolate but The Europeans really know how to make the best.
[/quote
Do you have experience with English Cadbury vs Australian Cadbury?
I agree about European chocolate. My favorite is Lindt Milk Chocolate from Switzerland. Unfortunately it is one of the worst food for my acid reflux problem.
I'll be traipsing through the New City of York tomorrow with the Vixter and my mom. We three are going to see Little Women on DR Ben' recommedation. (AFTER , of course, the obligatory wander through the American Girl Place) I swear,I think I know that floorplan better than the architect by now.....
OH, and DR Jose, did you ever post what your connection is/was to The American Girl Place? Maybe I'll find it when I go catch up, if not, please tell me!! Inquiring minds want to know.
I have been thinking about Penny's and your show all week....I really enjoyed it, and I found the stage portrayal made me rethink some of how I reacted to reaing the book....
some stuff that made me laugh reading made me more wistful and sad when seeing and portrayed
Jose then you think the Australian and English Cadbury taste the same and it is only the American that is different? Bryan returned home from the Cadbury factory in England with some wonderful samples which did not include the eggs.
Ooohh... Lunch? Dinner between shows?
;)

Oh I would love to , and I really appreciate the offer, but I don't think it will work this trip. We expect to get in about noon and then the aforementioned AGP tour, a quick slice of pizza and then a 2:OO o'clock curtain. After the show I had offered Mom dinner in the city and she said no because she still has all her Easter pie baking to do so we will be zooming out right after the show.
Definitely when you are back in May we must make a point of meeting up...if not at Anthony's show then sometime. I need to get the bakery walking tour too!!! Maybe when Jane is in , ifwe can get a group...we'll get you a whistle and a tour guide shirt "We're walking, we're walking , we're eating....."
(almost a "Dave" reference)
No worries... Next time.... Just remember to wear comfortable shows... And "comfortable" pants.
;)
DH a/k/a The Brit, says the reason the chocolate tastes different is that the English milk is not pasturized or homogenized, and that those processes change the flavour of the milk.
Did Bryan bring you any Cadbury "Flake" ? One of my favorites that DH introduced me to...
Cadbury Flake always reminds me of the time I robbed the ice cream man in front of Madamme Tussand's inLondon...
Yep, pasteurized milk is the "culprit". ;)
Reading various cooking texts, it always amazes me how "clean" the American kitchen is - and probably shouldn't be.
There was something on NPR the other evening about how people are having more and more allergies and getting sick from things that they wouldn't have a generation or two ago becaues of "overcleanliness" people are not exposed to the common every day germs because of all these antibiotic soaps and pasterized foods full of persavatives and never build up the natural immunities that their forebears had
