Comparing dining out in NYC with LA has its problems:
New York City has about 50% more folks occupying a lot less real estate than does LA.

To compare NYC dining with LA you would have had to try:

Artesia for Indian
Westminster for Vietnamese
Long Beach for Cambodian
Chino for Basque
Solvang for Danish
San Pedro for Slavic
Manhattan Beach, Laguna Beach, Malibu, Costa Mesa for up-scale dining

Also, the life style differences between very urban NYC and basically suburban LA argues for many more, (hence better choice), restaurants in NYC (I venture a guess that the average New Yorker eats out much more frequently than does the average Angeleno) - compare the number of supermarkets on Manhattan with the same population area in LA).

der Brucer

? for BK - And what do you think of dining out in London?

Great dinner report, DR EDISAURUS.....any photos taken?

Photos were taken, but in the  no seeum fashion, so they're a little weird. I'll see if our hostess will send me one!

DR edi, thanks for the dinner update! Did you ask Mr Ivory whatever happened to the film of THE PLAYMAKER?

Could you refresh my memory? I'll ask him about it tonight if possible!

I always liked to hear Jeanette MacDonald sing:

The Breeze and Thigh

I think TomovOz would vote for the Caterina Valente version.

So sorry DR Ron Pulliam.  You will just have to spend more time here with US!!!!! :D

Oh no, wait...

You can't do that.

Someone will make snarky remarks about how you should be WORKING instead.   >:(

And let numbers plummet even more than they have since you got snarked?  Fie!  I say Fie!

Besides...I don't do "guilt."  Ever.  I do everything I'm given to do plus stuff I enjoy doing.  I cannot help it if I am super-efficient and highly competent!  It's part of being a Virgo, I guess.

I have not had a whole lot of time to watch my new TV, but last night I chose to watch the HD version of THE OFFICE...wow...that show looks really good in High Definition!

Every show looks good in high definition. Some look astounding: SMALLVILE, UGLY BETTY, CSI: MIAMI. And I'll add BOSTON LEGAL to that list now. Though I didn't much like this week's episode, the video quality really registered with me for the first time this week.

edi, what small town in Oregon. Klamath falls isn’t too far from us.  I enjoyed your narration of your interesting fun evening.  For the dog related story check out my posts and photos from yesterday-I can’t type all that again

Yes, I read back and saw that you were run over by a Boulder!

He grew up in Klamath Falls, and Greg went to school near there, at a logging camp in Lincoln. (Is that where they make Lincoln Logs?)

I'll throw in that "Ghost Whisperer" and "Moonlight" both look incredible in HD, as do "Desperate Housewives" and "Brothers and Sisters."

STRAIGHT GIRL SPOILER ALERT:

Gay men do kiss girls - some so a very fine job of it!

Justin (both actor and presumably character) are 13. At 13 not many young men are consciously homosexual (and those of us who were so aware were also very aware that one did not express these proclivities in public). The character of Justin has not been scripted as gay - if viewers perceive him to be gay, it is a result of their own stereotypical assumptions. 13 is a time of sexual awakening and discovery - even in real life, a Justin destined to be an "open and notorious" homosexual would most likely be going to school dances and kissing girls. Even men who carried on frequent sexual liaisons with other men at 13 went on the date for the senior prom, play football in college, join fraternities, serve in the Military, marry and sire children - and then, finally, settle down with the other man of their choice.

Also, even in today's more enlightened times, Disney owned ABC would not dare to present an openly homosexual 13 year old on an 8PM family hour show.

Even TV is to be permitted its closets.

der Brucer

They never said at all that Justin was gay, but he was presented as a sissy...and with an incredibly supportive family. :) Harvey Fierstein wrote a book called "The Sissy Duckling:

I think we need to remember about Justin (i.e. UGLY BETTY) that he's trying at the moment to be the boy his father might have wanted. He's not being his "normal/usual" self, but rather ACTING the role of a street kid like his dad might have been. He's "playing" basketball, wearing his father's leather jacket, not caring about his grades, and kissing a girl.

I'm thinking this is just a phase that will eventually blow up in his face when he realizes how unhappy he is not being himself. Not gay, necessarily, but "artistic."

I spent most of the afternoon with the second disc in the UNDER THE VOLCANO set. There was an interview with Jacqueline Bisset. There was an audio interview with John Huston at Cannes in 1984.

And there were two documentaries. One was about the making of UNDER THE VOLCANO with terrific views of rehearsals and filming different takes of scenes than those we see in the finished film.

The other was a 98-minute Oscar-nominated documentary on the unhappy, frustrating life of Malcolm Lowry who wrote the original novel. So very, very sad.

Next, I skimmed through today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. No gay characters, and the previews for next week didn't include them either.

I ended my afternoon with last night's CSI. I agree with DR Ron about the absurdity of the Grissom/Sara liaison. I've despised the "affair" from its inception, and I can't wait until Fox leaves the series in November. She has always been my least favorite character.

The cases this week were very interesting.

And remember, those who preordered the book will be receiving a special, one-of-a-kind thing with it.  So, it's not too late to preorder, and believe me, plenty here have not preordered.  Also, remember that all books can be preordered at www.kritzerland.com.

Three new series have now received renewals for a full season of episodes:

GOSSIP GIRL on CW

PRIVATE PRACTICE on ABC

BIG BANG THEORY on CBS.

All other new shows are still awaiting decisions on whether their first seasons will be full ones or merely half seasons.

Good morning. Boy could I use some vibes today.  Callie has been having trouble again so I did what I have been told over and over again I didn't wait and took her in this morning.  I called first and then took her in, the receptionist was very rude, I ended up leaving in tears and very upset, determined that I was going to get the cats' files when I got back and look for a new vet.

Better vibes for Cillaliz and health vibes for Callie.

They're probably checking Daniel Hugh Kelly's schedule to ascertain when he can break out of prison and stalk the poor boys some more.

Please wish me luck today- i need ALL the prayers and good  thoughts today.  I'll be seeing some  wonderful cousins flying in from Delaware, but the Little Foxes will outumber them  ( and I refuse to relive scenes from lLong Day's Jorney into Night" or "Virginia Woolf.)

Lucky vibes for Kerry.
