Well, you've read the notes, the notes gambled and it paid off, and now it is time for you to post until the gambling cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: RATIOCINATE!
-
First post after BK!
-
Topic of the Day: Lucky Charms! I found THIS (https://www.foodbeast.com/news/how-lucky-charms-marshmallow-shapes-have-changed-over-the-past-50-years/) article about the history of the cereal. I remember that the marshmallows used to be only the pink hearts, yellow moons, orange stars, and green clovers. According to the article, the blue diamonds were added in 1975, and purple horseshoes were added in 1983. I remember when both of those were added! :D
-
I have no idea how many different kinds of marshmallows it now has...but I'm sure that they're still magically delicious!
-
Second post after BK.
-
Goodnight.
-
TOD Cheerios
Rice Krispies
Oatmeal

-
Good night, Tom.
-
Hi, jan.
-
Time for bed.
Have a good day, all!
-
I hpe DC Nicky is feeling better now.
-
We are back on the ship and I have a decent internet connection again. When we arrived in Bangkok Keith's phone connected but mine didnt3, very strange since we both have t-Mobile.
-
I would have liked to explore Bangkok this afternoon. Instead we went to the gyn, showere, and are now relaxing with dri ks in the cigar bar. I really was not up to running around and Keith didn't want to anyway.
-
It is extremely embarrassing to contantly blow your nose and cough when on a tour with people or on a ship.
-
I rsad that Bettina Bradbury, one of Ray's daughters has passed away. Bruce did you know any of his daughters besides Susan? I did not.
-
While Angkor Wat was impressive we much preferred the smaller temples Ta Prohm and AngkorThom. Thom was were " Tomb Raiders" was filmed was my favorite.
-
Childhood cereals:
Lucky Charms (which Mom rarely allowed), TRIX, Cocoa Puffs, Fruit Loops, Rice Krispies, Cap'n Crunch, Honey Combs, Sugar Smacks
and Puffa Puffa Rice-- the 1812 Overture was in its commercials
My sister and I would stick Sugar Smacks or Puffa Puffa Rice to our canines and pretend we were vampires.
Enjoy your day everyone. I wonder what cereals Bruce ate?
-
Lucky Charms, which I ate by taking all the marshmallows out...eating the cereal with milk and then eating the marshmallows dry afterwards
-
Rice krispsies
-
Count Chocula ...eaten the same way as Lucky Charms
-
Cream of Wheat...with melted butter and nestles quick sprinkledon top
-
Maypo with brown sugar sprinkled on top
-
By the way, all these sugary additions were invented by my Mom
-
She also puts brown sugar and butter in the carrots and will add sugar toast about anything
-
Good morning, all!
-
A & T didn't begin their attempts to rouse me until after 7:00, but they had a nice breakfast, and I am dressed and on my first cuppa coffee.
-
Around 9:30 we will prepare for Thatch's trip to City Vet.
-
Good morning
-
Just read that Carol Channing has died
-
Good morning, all.
-
Two!
-
Sad news about Channing. I saw her twice in Hello, Dolly!
-
TOD:
Anything with sugar. Life, Cap’n Crunch, Super Sugar Crisp, Lucky Charms, Count Chocula, you name it.
At the main office, they have a series of meeting rooms named after cereal. There’s a Snap, a Crackle and a Pop included among them.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I saw Channing once, in the tour of Hello, Dolly! — Miami, 1966 (?).
-
In 1978 I ushered all eight performances of Channing's Houston Grand Opera tour of Hello Dolly! at Cincinnati's Music Hall. It was a lesson in an ever-fresh and funny frozen performance appearing spontaneous and generating the same audience responses every time. I saw her again in the last revival and she was still wonderful.
I got a chance to work with her in the late 1990s when the NYC Gay Men's Chorus did a Jerry Herman night. I know she gave BK a hard time recording that last Dolly! revival, but she was quite lovely, and I am happy that, like the often difficult Elaine Stritch, I had the chance to work with her.
-
When Thatch and I return from the vet, my first task is to clean off my work table without Annabelle's assistance/
-
In cereal, I ate whatever we had and pretty much liked it all, but my favorites were the sweetened ones like Frosted Flakes, Sugar Crisp, Sugar Smacks...even though I dumped sugar on everything else, too. Raisin Bran was always a favorite. Wheaties. Corn Flakes. Cheerios.
Also liked hot cereals Oatmeal, Cream of Wheat, Maypo [shout-out to vixmom for that memory]. Those that were NOT favorites were the drier, harder to eat Grape-Nuts and Shredded Wheat. I also never went for the crazy sweet ones that appeared later on, though I did become fond of Trix.
Okay, I just opened up a list of cereals on Wiki, and the subject is HUGE. So many had not even come to mind, even though we’re naming favorites. Hey, wasn’t there another “Cream of...” one? Why am I thinking that?

I wish I had seen both of these. (I have no idea why I let the last revival get by me.)
-
Music Hall. Damn.

“a lesson in an ever-fresh and funny frozen performance appearing spontaneous and generating the same audience responses every time”
Great description, DR Elmore.
-
The very first thing you see when you get to hell:
-
Sad news.
Although I never saw her in HELLO, DOLLY!, I had the pleasure of seeing Ms. Channing twice on stage.
The first time was in the 1960s when she did a show with George Burns at the late Orpheum Theater in Seattle.
In the 1970s, she did a re-do of GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES (i.e. LORELEI) at the Shubert Theatre in Los Angeles.
I never actually met the lady, though I did see her at an autograph show or two that Ray Courts held in the SFV during the late 1990s-early 2000.
R.I.P.

-
Why is it that every day at this time Thatch is dozing in the cat tree but as soon as I plan on taking him to the vet, he becomes a whirling dervish refusing to be caught?
-
Because he is a cat and they just know somehow ;D
-
They KNOW!

TOD:
I was mostly not allowed to eat kids' sugar cereals, so it was a real treat to go to a friend's house and eat them.
Non-sugar

Fortified Oat Flakes (which they don't make anymore). They got very soggy quickly, but the flavor was delicious.
Total
Cheerios
Kellog's Corn Flakes
Sugar

Cocoa Puffs
Sugar Pops
Fruit Loops
Captain Crunch
-
My list is the same as DR jan's list.....
Cheerios
Rice Krispies
and in the winter
Quaker Oats with butter and brown sugar.....

I am watching the bridge....

I never saw Ms Channing in person or onstage.....but I enjoy the Kritzerland release of her SHOW GIRL LP.....and this always reduces me to helpless laughter.

-
Good morning.
-
Such blessed peace.
-
I'm up, I'm up - barely. Basically I don't know that I actually slept, although I suppose I did. Something I ate wasn't reacting well, but I also think I was so overtired that that affected me and I just either was up clearing my throat or thinking I was up when I was asleep. I have to be really careful today because two nights like that and I become very susceptible to losing my voice, which I cannot do. I'm not sure I have time to futz and finesse this morning.
-
As to Miss Channing, she had ninety-seven years on this planet, which is amazing. I saw her in the first national tour of Dolly, which opened the Music Center here, I saw her in the 70s tour, and of course I recorded the 1994 tour. I thought she was a brilliant performer and I'll leave it at that as the rest of it is in my book, although I did rewrite a lot of that section and softened it.
-
I am baking for a club meeting tonight. My house smells good.
-
I am hoping we don't have any troublemakers show up tonight.
-
Good morning!
-
Page 3!
-
I also saw Carol Channing twice in Hello, Dolly! The first was at the National Theatre in approximately 1979 and then at the Kennedy Center in the 1990's. I remember clearly that both times after the show she said something about "Washington, DC and environs." I guess "environs" is a funny word because it got a laugh both times.
-
Feel better vibes for DR elmore!
-
Feel better vibes for DR Jane!
-
I really enjoyed her co-starring with Robert Morse in the "Sugar Babies" tour, at the Colonial in Boston, which was as wildly entertaining as the Broadway version. I wondered if the rare appearance of Mickey Rooney along with Ann Miller on Broadway made people decide to not buy tickets when they were not in it.
It was such great fun, but just didn't attract buyers, it seems. Neither Robert Morse nor Carol Channing was carrying the wide-ranging comedy load that Mickey Rooney had, and while both were really great, at least in Boston they never felt like a team - the material for Mickey Rooney was split up between them. (I hear the show sold better when Rip Taylor did it at some point, but for me, Channing and Morse were such a memorable experience.)
-
My Dolly program from the original tour is dated December 20, 1966 thru January 1, 1967, so I saw it sometime in that week.
Dade County Auditorium.
I had just seen Ginger Rogers on Broadway the previous summer.
-
KevinH - I can imagine how funny the word "environs" must have been when she said it.
-
I shall now be on my way to this meeting, which I hope is short.
-
I forgot that I also saw Channing with Leslie Uggams, Andrea McArdle and Jerry Herman in Jerry’s Girls on tour.
-
Having never watched the animated ADDAMS FAMILY series, I didn't even know she had voiced Grandma Addams.
-
Wonder of wonders, a little past 11:00, Thatch lowered his guard, I scooped him up in his carrier and hobbled quickly to the bus stop. A minute later, the bus arrived. He was terrified. only cried a couple of times about the cold, and the carrier became his safety zone. He got his booster shot and his claws clipped, was told by several people at City Vet how cute he was, and we were home by noon. I'm glad that errand is over.
-
I forgot that around 1975 I saw the pre-Broadway tour of Lorelei in Cincinnati. Channing was fun, but the show was poor, and I kept wishing I were seeing Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Brandon Maggart has a chapter in his bio on the horrors of the tour and the Broadway run.
-
Just read that Carol Channing has died
I just read that. :'(

So, apropos of nothing...
BK is always mentioning Jerry's Deli, and I was trying to recall what the place looked like the few times I was there, which would have been in the early 1980s. It's just something I'd been wondering about, because I knew it couldn't have looked the way I see it now online.
Found this, which seems much more likely.
BK, or anyone, do you recall any other earlier design?
-
I forgot that I also saw Channing with Leslie Uggams, Andrea McArdle and Jerry Herman in Jerry’s Girls on tour.
I really like that CD! My favorite spoken line during We Need a Little Christmas is "I'm your Christmas Carol!" :D
-
I own a pre-broadway program of Hello Dolly with different actors and song line up.
-
I saw Carol Channing "live" twice, neither time in DOLLY. The first time was in JERRY'S GIRLS, with Andrea McArdle and Leslie Uggams. The second time, sadly, was with Mary Martin in LEGENDS.
-
Unfortunately, that was the only time I got to see Mary Martin on stage.
-

Wow!
I had that bookmarked once and never watched it!
-
Tuesday evening greetings! Productive day here. I finished a special birthday card for our niece/goddaughter Lauren, who turns 30 on Friday. Then I cleaned up the crafter-math, had lunch, and Richard and I hauled all the holiday decor to the basement. Made a meatloaf, which we’ll have for dinner in about an hour and a half.
-
Sad news about Channing. I saw her twice in Hello, Dolly!
Sad, indeed, but - wow, almost 98.
I also saw her twice as Dolly: Easter Sunday 1966 at Detroit’s Fisher Theatre with my mom, grandma, sister, and aunt, and again in 1978 at Music Hall in Cincinnati. DR Elmore, wasn’t Lee Roy Reams in that one?

If you just want this on a DVD, I can actually do that. Of course, it would be cheap and dirty and not great resolution because this original wasn't great, but it's pretty easy to make a DVD of this.
-
The other question is, if it wasn't already on DVD or video, where did that YouTube video come from??
-

DR Elmore, I just discovered that I have a LORELEI program from the Fisher and it appears to be from 1972, because there’s a big Chevy ad for the 1973 model year. I had absolutely no recollection of seeing that show, but it must have been 1972.

I could not remember the year. Much of the 1970s is a blur. I remember the drive to Cincinnati, the traffic tie up that made us think we wpould be late, and the people I went wit5h, but not the year.

Fine. I'll just stay home.
-
Thanks DR Jrand. The place was filled with super cook trees which is ehy it was my favorite.
-
Meeting lasted about ninety minutes and included lunch at a little cafe at the Autry. I had a pulled pork sandwich - very small but the best I've ever had. Really good.
-
I then had to ship something, and there were some screeners that had come, including Bohemian Rhapsody. Then I came home and began futzing and finessing.
-
But it was the same story as yesterday - just so tired that it took a really long time to finish that part of it and I did a lot of adding and subtracting. I wrote about a half a page and went to the couch and stretched out, and then slept for about an hour and fifteen minutes. Then I wrote two new pages easily and I'm taking a brief break and then for the next three hours I will damn well finish fifteen pages.
-
Six pages so far. I'll get to the new chapter in a couple of pages, then try to get to ten, take a break, then write five more for sure.

-
Well, I need to leave work and do a little shopping.
Be back later.
-
In from the dance classes tonight. I've been helping Joy out with her public ed classes. It's different. These are newcomers and she does her best to make them fun.
-
Eleven pages. It's pouring again. I kind of like it.
-
Just starting to watch Miss Susan Hayward in The Hairy Ape.
-
Maybe I'll try to watch some of Bohemian Rhapsody.
-
But I'll definitely do four more pages and maybe two or three beyond that, because I only did about eight yesterday.
-
This is a public domain picture, and the quality of the DVD print is fairly lousy.
-
Five!

Good 😊
-
Today we went to the gorgeous Grand Palace in Bangkok.
-
It seems Bangkok has tourist police that try to influence where our guide took us. They were very nice, however, it was odd to be stopped as we were walking to the Palace. Later they directed the bus to pull over to speak with our guide. Neither were an issue and they wete very polite. It was just interesting.
-
Good evening.
