DR vixmom, do you find that most of DR the vixter's friends have their own cellphones?  I was in a discussion the other day with my sister in law about what the appropriate age might be for a youngster to be given their first cell phone.

All these new things that parents nowadays have to deal with!    :P

All of her friends have their own cellphones.  We got the Vixter one the summer between  7th & 8th grade so she was 13.  That summer she was in music camp all day (she had won a scholarship from school) and she was rehearsing two different shows in the evening in a church that had no public use phone available.  Since she was out of the house on her own so much we decided to get her the phone that year - we were originally planning on waiting until she got to high school.   We discovered form talking to her friends' and school mates' parents that she was one of the last to get a phone - most of them had been given phones as soon as they begamn middle school at age 11 or 12 and many had phones as young as 7 or 8.

I cannot imagine what a 7 year old needs with a cellphone unless they are allowed to be out and about on their own - not the usual situation nowadays in my neighborhood.

It’s weird being the same age as old people

Another thing i read/heard is that they might follow the french version and allow the judges to have a one time veto that could be used to save one of the better contestants (like a jennifer hudson, chris daughtry.

I read it elsewhere, but it is explained here:

Another Ask BK:  can you give some kind of hint on the FSM release?  Dramatic film?  Musical?  Composer?  Film?  ;)

We are going through the cell phone debate with Gabe right now.  "All the kids have one," blah, blah, blah.  Well, not *quite* all, since Gabe doesn't, LOL.  Next year, because he's in advanced math, he'll be walking to high school from middle school for an early morning math class, so we think we'll get him one before then, which would more or less line up with the Vixter's age.

ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD:From the Secret Files of Harry Pennypacker is now available from Amazon on Kindle.

:D

Which I would purchase, if I didn't already own the real thing!

Couldn't you use a back-up copy?

 ::)

Seriously, if anybody does order the Kindle version, please let me know how it transferred.

I don't have a Kindle.

Ask BK (or anybody else):  with the recent talk about sales figures for ANYA and the like, it got me wondering how OBC LPs did in their heyday?  Bruce, do you have any idea of how many units a hit like My Fair Lady would have sold, and, perhaps more interestingly, a flop like A Family Affair?  I'm just wondering how this kind of product did for the big labels "back in the day."  Certainly there were the stellar performers like MFL or South Pacific, but I wonder if shows like A Time for Singing or Anya sold many more than 500-1,000 LPs to begin with.

I can tell you at one time, MY FAIR LADY (OCR) was the largest selling LP recording of all time: 6 million albums. The soundtrack of THE SOUND OF MUSIC overtook it at 8 million eventually. I think that record held until SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER and eventually Michael Jackson's THRILLER.

If they do offer the judges a veto power (one per judge), it should only be a one-time deal, and could only be used to save someone once and never again.

It looks like the move to Austin is going to be postponed for a few days.

Although the loan for the sale of our Los Angeles house has been approved and "locked," the documents have not been signed yet, which means that escrow can't close before next week.  So, instead of starting our 5-day drive on Sunday (15), it probably won't begin until the latter part of the week.

 :(

There's always something, isn't there?

I just spoke to my friend and former client, Henry Darrow, who now lives in North Carolina.

He just finished doing a production of MY FAIR LADY near his home.

He played Alfred P. Doolittle.

Yes, the My Fair Lady cast album was HUGE, but they had a smash hit AND Columbia was an investor in the show.  A Family Affair (I owned the cast album when it came out) I'm sure sold very few LPs, although there was, even then, a collector's market - I'm sure it sold somewhere between 1000 and 3000 LPs.

I've never lost a cell phone but I have lost two bluetooth earpieces.  They were cheapie ones, but each time I lost one it was a pain because I needed it that particular day.

I have only lost one bluetooth earpiece, only one because so far I have not replaced it.

From elmore:
Quote
Nursie, if you read all the comments in the IMDB reviews, you'd see that some really liked the Alan Bates adaptation. It's only 2 hrs long, as oppoed to the 1977 version, so it's much abridged, but i found it quite good. Rent it. Or rent the DOMBEY AND SON, which was quite good.

I read the good reviews, and I read the series was better which is why I asked for a comparison.  I prefer to watch the 2 hour movie with Alan Bates.  I think we saw Dombey and Sons, I have to check again.

DR Matt H.  We agree with your comments on CASTLE.  We hung in there like you suggested & it did improve enough at the end to give it another try.

It looks a little chilly outside, but we'll see how it is at ten, which is when I was intending to do the long jog.  After all, ten is the new nine.
