Well, you've read the notes, the notes were kneaded, and now it is time for you to post until the kneaded cows come home.

And the word of the day is: AEGROTAT!
-
And a very happy haineshisway.com birthday to once upon a time dear reader Evil Twin.
-
As you know, I've been enjoying following our GUESTS around as they look at old topics. One of them was looking at our topic of January 8, 2005. Very interesting reading. I'd just gotten my first Mac - my Powerbook. It was also during the horrendous rains of late 2004/early 2005. And I'd only been in this house for about three or four months.
-
And I completely forgot to mention when I wrote about The Man From Hong Kong that the co-star was our very own Frank (Danssssssse Salome) Thring. He was marvelously marvelous and so Frank Thring-like.
-
And what were we doing in January of 2005? LIMBO!
-
And the wonderful and much-missed ozderek was alive and posting.

And now I think I'm caught up.

Since I'm still in Austin, I don't have my DVD player with me.
I am, however, going to try to catch GRAN TORINO here over the weekend.
We're meeting another landscaper and 2 handymen today.
Tomorrow is the book signing at Borders.
Sunday we're going to check out the local Direct Buy.
And, Monday...thus far...is free.
Home early Tuesday.
Sound like fun?
I'm exhausted.

CD - the Twisted Nerve/Bride Wore Black
DVD - A Farewell to Arms with Gary Cooper and Helen Hayes. I had never seen it all the way through, and only watch about 3/4's of it. I liked it a lot. Both of the leads were very good, although the camera didn't love Hayes...she was quite different from a lot of the film actresses of the era, much more natural....although the drawn on eyebrows were very 1930's!

Good morning, all! I am spending my morning with the Most Happy Fella, taking a lunch break, then vacuuming the apartment in prep for a meeting at 3 pm with Aaron Gandy and Joe Thalken concerning the restoration of Rodgers & Hart's SPRING IS HERE (1927???). Joe's conducting the Patti Lupone GYPSY, which closes this weekend, so it's been a bear scheduling this meeting with everybody.
Yesterday, I walked up to my storage space and dragged back a few cartons. Everythng is now put away in my new filing cabinet but I'm thinking I don't like the location of the cabinet, so I may be moving furniture around this weekend.
First, today's walk.

Beautiful but cold morning! Not a cloud in the sky right now. Rain is predicted for tomorrow! Please no!
-
To make sure that I would be able to finish with MATLOCK today, I went ahead and watched another episode this morning (which will leave 7 remaining in the set). This was the one that the network allowed viewers to decide whodunit. Midway through the show, viewers were given numbers to call to select the murderer. The DVD allowed the viewer to see how it originally aired with the originally selected killer or to watch and see all three endings (kind of like the movie CLUE on DVD).
Beth Broderick and Dann Florek were the most recognizable guest stars in the cast.

Well, I did wake at 6:30 this morning but I still felt too out of it to go to the office, so here I sit in my home office, doing some dribs and drabs by connecting to work. I do feel somewhat better but I want to continue to rest up. Starting tomorrow, I'm going to begin taking down the Christmas tree and platform, hopefully getting it all done this weekend. I won't be able to do much else--they're beginning to forcast a good deal of snow for tomorrow.

Maybe this will make someone smile.
Kids say the funniest things.
Last night I was saying goodbye to my niece and she looked at my new jacket and said, "auntie what color do you call that?"
So i say, "it's silver".

It was pretty funny :)

DVD - Waiting for Guffman
(waiting to watch it...)
Yesterday I did some more theater stuff - mostly concerned with figuring out what we spent last season, and how we spent it - for the 990. Somehow, $150K got spent... I'm tracking it down. Ah, detective work!!! Then, at 7, I hied me through miserable traffic to Rikki's house, where I picked up her copy of Quickbooks - this will make it ever so much easier to wade through the morass. I played with her dawg, while I was there, which was so so so wonderful. Oh, dawgs...
Today, lotsa coffee, gym by 9:30 (yup, I go every day), shower at 11, talk to the Chuckster, then it's back to work with my Artistic Director. Reading series of new plays begins next week - 2 a week for 4 weeks. That's really wonderful - they're casting them now. So I'm surrounded by artistic types. Love that!
And tomorrow, I go to rehab, for a special arts day with the addicts and their families - I've chosen collage as a project... got LOTS of glue! (The school white glue - anything else is verboten.) and wads of magazines and stuff and scissors and glitter and feathers and more stuff and heavy card stock. Oh, what fun we will have!!!

I'm up, I'm up. Wanted to sleep just a little longer, but didn't, obviously. I was up till two doing some CD rearranging. Because we were able to get so many books up in that storage area, all the books that I'd moved to the linen closet (which has a LOT of space and I have very little linen and towels), I've been moving in all the classical CDs so I can free up space in the CD closet - so that's what I was doing last night. Today I may try to get another shelf cleared, which would be very helpful.

I like ENO and G&S soprano Valerie Masterson a lot, as well as most of the major cast. I'm not keen on Christopher Lee as the King, but the major drawback is that it's a studio cast assembled to record a score and not particularly keen on the dramatic side of things. I prefer it to the Donna Murphy "I'm-the-sourest-anna-in -history-screw-you-so-rewrite-these-accompaniments" approach, even if our BK did record it.

Vixdad and I went to see the surgeon today. He said the tumor is my mouth is almost completely eradicated and confirmed what the Radiation Oncologist said Monday about the lump in my neck being smaller!!
He says we will finish up treatment on the 29th and then it will take about 3 months for me to get back enough feeling in my throat and mouth to begin eating by mouth again. About 3 months after I finish treatment they will do another full body scan to seeif there are any stray cancer cells left. If there are, I may need surgery, however at this point he said to be he expects a full recovery with no surgery necesarry!!!
I meet with the Chemo Oncologist this afternoon for her review

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, EVIL TWIN! (Any twin of td is a twin of mine)
-
I cleared two more shelves in the CD closet, and now it's quite lovely in there, with almost everything fitting where it should.
-
We had to get past a surly parking attendant but when we entered the doctor's office Chauncy greeted me with a smile and my name (my own, for the first time ever!)
When we were kept waiting for 45 minutes he apologized, twice!
(I did hear one of the women whisper to him, 'Who's that?"in a puzzled voice and when he replied with my name and she nodded knowingly - so I suspect Something was Said)
-
Now I must jog and then write and then go to Glendale and then come back and then eat and then write some more.

It is a shame, vixmom, that it required a phone call from another doctor in order for you to be treated like a human being. You weren't waiting in line at the fish market in Pioneer Square (where you would have been treated far better); you were there for an oncology appointment.
Our Regional Administrator has a secretary (clerical employee) who somehow believes that she is now something other than a clerical worker, because she answers the telephone for the boss.
Sometimes people believe that shoveling the King's poop is any more important than shoveling other people's poop.

Such great news, Vixmom!
I hope the surgeon was unaware that his office staff was being rude to patients and now they are polite to everyone.
I noticed a huge difference in how everyone was being addressed this time around, but Chauncey was being particuarly polite to me - he didn't call me to the desk, he got up and came to my chair in the waiting room to apologize for the wait and then when we scheduled the followup appointment (Feb 5!!!) he was Very Accomodating
I think TCB got it right - some people who work for a VIP start to think that the people being dealt with are to be spoken down to ... sometimes its necessary to bring it to their attention that if the people stop coming the VIP loses his/her importance

Because of the surgeon's appointment I didn't get my first can until 11 and then I fell asleep while I was sitting very still .... my dad is coming in about 20 minutes to drive me to my Chemo Oncologist appoinment so I today will proabably only be a 2 can day... oh well. I have the weekend to pack the calories in.
I did manage to get a 4th can in yesterday before bed - but yesterday only counts for about 3 1/2 at best still anyway due to "spillage"
Still I am feeling stronger today - thank you all for the VIBES and the Prayers!!!

No way I can do the long jog today - just back from an errand and it's already noon and I don't have the hour to spare today. I'll do it tomorrow and do six days straight.

Well I kind of expected that based on what our little Sarah across the street went through with her feeding tube. It takes the body a while to recover from the effects of the constant long term radiation
I have been warned that my glands and taste buds may never fully recover becasue of my age (poor Sarah was only 9 when she got hit!) but she had the still growing factor in her favor when it came to recovering those senses. She tells me that she has fully recovered and she went through 9 months of treatment I am only going through 2 (so I really can't whine!)

Well, my usual Friday outing got off to a very SOUR start when I went to my car to find the very deadest of batteries. My neighbors were at work, so no one was handy to give my battery a jump charge, so I called a friend nearby who did come around 12:30 to give the battery a little kick in the butt. Fortunately, there is a brand new car place in the shopping center where I do my grocery shopping, so I took the car there to get a new battery, walked across the lot to shop for groceries, when I got back to the car place, I only had to wait about 10 more minutes for the battery installation to be completed. I still ended up losing about an hour of viewing time this afternoon, and I emerged $160 poorer at the end of the trip, but at least that's done.
-
I only got three more completed episodes of MATLOCK watched (plus about 10 minutes into another one) which will leave 3 2/3 episodes to go tonight.
-
DR JMK, I am VERY jealous you got MOONLIGHT to review.
-
One of the MATLOCK episodes (my favorite in the set) was a two parter concerning warring gangster clans. One side headed by John Randolph and the other by John Rubenstein. Shaun Cassidy was Randolph's son who had severed himself from his father's mob, changed his name, and started a new life in Atlanta. The always wonderful Max Gail was also a guest star as a police liaison to the gangs.
-
I did take 10 minutes to skim through today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. Nothing of interest, but a very explosive preview of one of next week's shows had Luke, Noah, and Brian. That one looked really good.
-
I have some writing to do, so I'll hop off-line now and get that done. Then back downstairs for more MATLOCK and (maybe) GHOST WHISPERER later in the evening.

And I'm back - and gosh you people say the nicest things!

The Chemo Oncologist concurs with the other two doctors I am getting better! I am so happy I could cry.
She warned me that the next round of Chemo (onteh 19th) is gonna hit me harder yet because of the more weakened conditon that I am in than when I started, but it will be the LAST ONE!!!!! HURRAH!
-
I got up two hours ago.
Am mostly refreshed.
Around 4 a.m., I got up and wondered why I was uncomfortable when I was so sleepy. I decided to recall my old pillows to see if they made any difference.
Nirvana ensued.
I slept until nearly noon after that.
I guess it wasn't smart to start using new pillows at a time when my health wasn't optimal.
I can't yet determine if this is the beginning of the end....but I feel more positive.
-
Strange that I feel so tired. But I can always sleep some more.

And in continued Happy News:
The Vixter's school chorus teacher called me today to say that the Vixter was one of only 5 kids in the school to make the "All County" Chorus. Unfortunately in conflicts with the high school musical (which happens to be High School Musical) but since she only has a part in the chorus they are going to allow her to stay in the musical even though she will only be in 2 of the 4 performances.
The chorus teacher is also directing the musical and confided to me that she had intentionally given her the chorus role rather than a speaking part becaude she had recommended the Vixter for All County and was sure she would be accepted..

I am very glad to hear that!
-
I was having the hardest time starting to write today. I just couldn't figure out where to go with the chapter (which I'd begun last night). So, I took a nice shower and it came to me just before I got out. It required me going back into the previous chapter and setting something up. That was a half page, and then I wrote a page, but now I know what I'm doing and when I return later I'll do three or four more pages. I'm really happy with what I came up with, the bit of business that will now take up the next eight pages, and I think it will be really fun to write.
-
Well I must away for a while - I need to get another can in.
-
I shall now be on my way to the Dale of Glen, after which I shall return.

HURRAH!
Good news bad news. VIBES THE GOOD NEWS CONTINUES TO IMPROVE & THE DOC IS WRONG ABOUT THE BAD NEWS!!!

CONGRATULATIONS DR VIXTER!!

DVD: Wall-E
CD: Mother Goose.

DP and I have just watched the first series of "Benidorm "which was a lot of fun.
I guess this too will be remade for USA TV!
-
I'm also enjoying UK series "The IT Crowd". Another series which will no doubt be remade by those oh so creative TV people.
-
On the shelf waiting for viewing are the three series of "Fat Friends". Ruth Jones and James Corden are members of the cast as is Alison Steadman. These three are also in the WONDERFUL "Gavin & Stacey" - written by Jones and Corden.
-
"Fat Friends" is a series about a group of people struggling with weight loss and who meet at "Superslimmers".

Jane, did you know THIS (http://www.comcast.net/articles/news-general/20090109/Vaccine.Deniers/) about your town?
-
I'll add a YIPPEE!!! to the YEEEEHAAAW!!! I posted earlier (except not in color since I'm posting from my Palm TX)
-
DR George, I was expecting this (http://www.mailtribune.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20090108/NEWS/901080327) nice story on Ashland.

And that YIPPEE!!! is meant for DR Vixmom, of course!
And then there's a great big CONGRATS to The Vixter!

So once again Ashland is in the news for it's "quirkiness". ::) ;D
I am well aware of the situation. It is in our local news every year during the "push" to convince parents to vaccinate their children before school begins. I wasn't aware the government is now getting involved. Interesting story, thank you.

Imagine my surprise when I opened the other one. I was mid sentence telling Keith about the article you posted & came to an abrupt stop. ;D

I felt a little ambitious this afternoon so I took down all the other Christmas decore other than the Christmas tree and platform. It's amazing how quickly it does all get taken down and packed away considering how long it takes to put it all up. And how empty the place already looks even with the tree still here. Tomorrow at this time the livingroom will be barren,

the livingroom will be barren,
Yeah, well, that's what they said about Sarah and look how that all turned out. :)

I'm feeling like Typhoid Mary: while I was talking to my friend and adopted son Josh who called to cancel on me tomorrow morning since he's sick with a cold, my friend Chris called to cancel dinner with me tonight. They're dropping like flies!
So . . . what do I for dinner? I wonder if I can convince the Mexican takeout to deliver a pitcher of margaritas?

Today, Mark, Stan's niece, and I met with the pastor of Stan's church. As usual, when I get nervous I tend to blab on and on. The pastor wanted anticdotes, well, he got them from me. Everything Mark or Joyce said reminded me of another story. The poor pastor. I think his plan for an hour meeting turned it to over two hours.
Of course, Mark also seems to have the flair for the dramatic. As we were finishing up the meeting, Mark dropped the news on the pastor that Stan had left the church $87,000.00 for their youth scholarship program.
-
Wow. What wonderful generosity!
-
Good Evening!
-Just three more hours to go. I hope. We left NYC a little later than scheduled, but the driver seemed to make up the time once we hit the turnpike. I also ended up taking a good nap, which is a good thing since I don't believe the two women sitting in front of me have stopped chatting since the Holland Tunnel. ;)
-
DR vixmom - Again, Wonderful! Wonderful!
*Alas, I was cutting it pretty close earlier in order to make it down to Chinatown to catch my bus, so I was not able to pass on your good news to DR FJL.

DR the vixter - Congratulations!!!

DR TCB - Blab away! There is never anything wrong with remembering the good times.
-
I hope not. I just felt like I was dominating the conversation.
-
Vixmom, you never cease to amaze me. Hugs, vibes and whatever you need. You are one of them most amazing people I know.

DR elmore - A "pitcher of margaritas"? A "pitcher"? At least Dr. Graham is back in the ER tonight. ;)
-
Wow. What wonderful generosity!
Yes, you could say that. Mark said, when we were leaving, "I think I made his jaw drop."
That was an understatement.

Oh! I thought he just wanted a picture of margaritas. And I just wanted a picture of Dr. Graham.

OK. Time to not use up my iPhone's battery, and maybe even time for another nap.
Laters...

I hope Mark was correct about the donation to the church youth program.

For Stan, it was always about the young people. Stan gave several gifts over the years to the church's youth groups, but he never wanted anyone to talk about it. He didn't do it for the glory.

Back from my afternoon meeting with Shelly Markham and Adryan Russ, who played me some songs from this long musical. The songs are fine. I still have to finish act two - tomorrow. I then stopped at Subway and got something I've never had, a foot-long spicy Eyetalian sandwich, which was really quite tasty (salami and pepperoni). And now I shall go back to writing.
-
And really, page seven?
-
Stan must have felt his previous donations were used wisely to continue to donate. To keep paying on a policy to be used as a gift... again-wow!
-
The Very Best to Vixmom...Good Health Marimbas to YOU

Congrats to Both Vixmom and the Vixter!

On my fourth page now. I think I'll go watch another Smothers Brothers episode, and then do another page or two later.

It would seem to me that we need a frenzy or three.

Hello, everyone.
It sounds like VIXMOM continues to be an inspiration to us all. Good work, Debra!
Bruce amazes me with his writing.
How nice to hear about Stan's bequest. Nice things do still happen.
Vibes to all who've been under the weather in one way or another.

Before I leave-traveling home vibes to DR Singdaw who can't get a train home (I read this on Facebook)
'night

I spent an inordinate amount of time this morning attempting to transfer the utilities out of my name. The gas company told me someone must be present ALL DAY THE DAY AFTER I MOVE to turn off my service. How much sense does that make?? I'll coordinate with the buyers; surely there's a better way to do this!
-
Matt seems happy as a clam (where did that expression come from??) packing up my basement. He is clearly in his element. I've been leaving the basement to him while I make 101 phone calls and run around, trying to take care of a zillion things.

Good night.

DR JMK, I am VERY jealous you got MOONLIGHT to review.

We must talk! :D
-
Well, I did finally finish MATLOCK with much time to spare. I can't say that those remaining three episodes were all that wonderful. The season finale was especially disappointing with a very weak mystery concerning an heiress. Good guest stars: Mason Adams, Alan Oppenheimer, Brian Benben.
-
I'm hoping the roads are cleared in the morning. I really want to get my car serviced. I've already rescheduled once and don't want to have to do it again.
-
I noticed that the DVR had recorded the next episode of THE STARTER WIFE from Universal-HD, but I decided to save it for the weekend.
-
Instead I watched another NCIS episode. What a surprise to see the gorgeous Connor Trinneer from ENTERPRISE playing a drug courier who kidnaps the NCIS director becuase NCIS has his little brother in custody (where he promptly falls down dead.) Good episode, and Connor is always fun to look at.
-
HBO-HD was showing GLADIATOR in high definition, but they had reformatted it to 1.78:1, so I didn't watch for an extended period. I'd rather watch my regular DVD upconverted. At least it's in the proper aspect ratio.
-
I am also NOT going to work in the basement this weekend. I want to work at the office for a while and go to a movie or two. IIalso need to exercise. I've been slacking off on my diet and exercise the past few days and I think I actually gained a little weight over the past week. The new result was still losing since Dec 18, but I need to get back on track. It's hard to do when I'm this busy at the office, but I just need to figure it out.
-
Next, I watched tonight's GHOST WHISPERER. These folks are kind of clueless because I figured out the entire family mess within the first ten minutes of the show. Sure, I was still weeping by the end, but they took A LONG TIME to finally arrive at what I felt was the obvious truth.
And the show did finally give Camryn Mannheim something to do.
-
I saved PSYCH to watch tomorrow while I eat lunch, and I'll get around to MONK and THE STARTER WIFE at some point. Neither feels a high priority.
Tomorrow I'll have to start on WALKER TEXAS RANGER, too, since that box set also comes out on Tuesday.
-
Page Eight Dance!!!

Since you asked, this comes from "The Phrase Finder":
Why would clams be happy? It has been suggested that open clams give the appearance of smiling. The derivation is more likely to come from the fuller version of the phrase, now rarely heard - 'as happy as a clam at high water'. High tide is when clams are free from the attentions of predators; surely the happiest of times in the bivalve mollusc world. The phrase originated in the north-eastern states of the USA in the early 19th century. The earliest citation that I can find is from a frontier memoir The Harpe's Head - A Legend of Kentucky, 1833:
-
On the road again. Still.
But almost there. Strange amount of traffic in and out of DC. ???
-
I'm finally on.a NY bound train. We're not GOING anywhere, but I'm on a train!

And I'm heading downstairs to read a bit and then go to bed. What a long day it has been!
Good night!

G'night!

The earth has stopped turning - I'm watching "The King and I"!!

DP and I have just watched the first series of "Benidorm "which was a lot of fun.
I guess this too will be remade for USA TV!
That's because they don't think dubbing a series would go over too well.
Nobody in Hollywood believes U.S. Americans can understand non-U.S. English.
-
Oh, MattH, is Linda Purl, oft mentioned on this very site, not a regular? Have you oft mentioned her because if you did I didn't see it.
I don't recall MattH mentioning any of the regular actors in "Matlock," if that is the reference here. He normally names guest stars in episodes that stood out for him. Purl was, indeed, in the first season when she portrayed Charlene Matlock in the show's first 21 episodes (1986-1987). "Matlock" ran for 9 years (1986-1995) and 181 episodes, plus additional two-hour movie specials that followed the series' last episode.
Two days ago :
Matt H. on January 07, 2009, 02:34:00 PM
Then I began my review work with Season 2 of Andy Griffith's MATLOCK. I only got 2 1/4 episodes watched because (a) the season premiere was a 96-minute episode, and (b) we had a power outage that interrupted viewing for a bit.
By season 2, Linda Purl had left the show and been replaced with Nancy Stafford.
-
Good Evening!
I made it down to Richmond. Steve graciously picked me up, and he's graciously offered to let me stay at his place to night. I'll surprise my parents sometime tomorrow afternoon.
-
Ah, I must have missed that.
-
We do love our Linda Purl.
-
I had some eggs and an English muffin for my evening snack. It was good. I wrote a total of five and a half pages so I think I'm through for the evening. Six pages tomorrow should get me to the end of the current chapter, which is where I'd like to be in terms of giving these pages to muse Margaret.
-
Welcome five GUESTS.
-
I've been watching The Dark Knight and am finding it difficult to understand what anyone is saying.
-
Otherwise, it was a rather uneventful trip down. And, I think it was the first time where I didn't experience any sort of motion sickness - Whew! It turned out to be a sold out bus since they consolidated the 4:30 and 5:00 departures, but it didn't seem "crowded".
-
I think I'll listen to some Quincy Jones CDs.
-
Anyhoo...
I'm already feeling a bit sleepy even though I took a nap on the bus - which is a good thing, I guess.
Until the morning...
Goodnight.

I'm going to say that two hours without a post makes me want to vomit on the ground. Skammen.

I've been watching TV..."Psych," "Ghost Whisperer," "The Bonnie Hunt Show" and now I'm watching "Regis and Kelly."
