Waiting at the church;
When I found he'd left me in the lurch,
Lor, how it did upset me!

All at once, he sent me round a note

Lor, what a fuss Obadiah made of me
When he used to take me in the park!
He used to squeeze me till I was black and blue,

 When he kissed me he used to leave a mark.
Each time he met me he treated me to port,
Took me now and then to see the play;

Understand me rightly, when I say he treated me,
It wasn't him but me that used to pay.

See that ragtime couple over there
Watch them throw their shoulders in the air
Snap their fingers

Funny, funny music, dear
Ain't the funny strain
Goin' to your brain?

By the light of the silvery moon
I want to spoon
To my honey I'll croon love's tune
Honey moon, keep a-shinin' in June
Your silv'ry beams will bring love's dreams
We'll be cuddlin' soon
By the silvery moon

Place - park, scene - dark
Silv'ry moon is shining through the trees
Cast - two, me - you
Summer kisses floating on the breeze
Act one, be done
Dialog - where would ya like to spoon?
My cue, with you
Underneath the silv'ry moon

Act two, Scene - new
Roses blooming all around the place
Cast - three, You - me
Preacher with a solemn-looking face
Choir sings, bell rings
Preacher: You are wed forever more
Act two, all though
Every night the same encore

ALL TOGETHER NOW!

By the light, not the dark but the light
Of the silvery moon, not the sun but the moon
I wanna spoon, not croon, but spoon
To my honey I'll croon love's tune
Honeymoon, honey moon, honey moon
Keep a-shinin' in June
Your silv'ry beams will bring love's dreams
We'll be cuddlin' soon
By the silvery moon
The silv'ry moon...

At the old concert hall on the Bowery,
'Round a table were seated one night,
A crowd of young fellows carousing
With them life seemed cheerful and bright.
At the very next table was seated
A girl who had fallen to shame,
All the young fellows jeered at her weakness,
Till they heard an old woman explain:

cho: She is more to be pitied than censured,
She is more to be helped than despised.
She is only a lassie who ventured
On life's stormy path, ill-advised;
Do not scorn her with words fierce and bitter
Do not laugh at her shame and downfall.
For a moment, just stop and consider
That a man was the cause of it all.

There's an old-fashioned church 'round the corner
Where the neighbors all gathered one day,
While the parson was preaching a sermon
O'ere a soul that had just passed away;
'Twas this same wayward girl from the Bow'ry
Who a life of adventure had led.
Did the clergyman jeer at her downfall?
No! He asked for God's mercy, and said:

All those above songs (and MORE!) are available here and were recorded over 40 years ago by the one and only Julie Andrews!

Oh the beautiful picture of the beautiful butterfly makes me think of the beautiful "Poor Butterfly" from the movie "Thoroughly Modern Millie"!

Yes, Virginia; before the stage musical there was a Hollywood musical called "Millie"!
