Well, you've read the notes, the notes were quite civilized, if not colonized, and now it is time for you to post until the colonized cows come home - they're currently at The Colony doing cow-like things.
-
And the word of the day is: COGNOSCIBLE!
-
I ate a few peanuts. I know not why.
-
Since there's a See's Candy jernt five minutes from The Colony, I'm bringing my See's gift certificate and getting a pound of dark chocolate nuts and chews and whatever else catches my fancy.
-
I'm actually fairly certain I have another gift certificate laying around somewhere.
-
It looks like we'll start mixing the Susan Egan Live CD next week.
-
Got yet another amazon order today - I'm bored of sending these CDs, unless, that is, they actually sell them - then I'll be happy. But, I send, it takes them forever to even log them in, then, because they're a month behind in terms of payments, seeing any dough is two months away.
-
Could this be a whole page of ME?
-
Ye Olde iPod is on and Susan Egan is singing Meadowlark. I must say, it's quite powerful and quite different to any other version. It was a fun arrangement to do.
-
Todays chic tip!
How to be productive- multi-task! There are more combinations of simple things that we feel we must do inividually and take up twice as much time than I thought were possible!
I will now tell you the bad examples listed.
Find combo's that work for you, such as reading the newspaper while exercising- make's people nauseous.
excersice as you tidy up the house...how? Sounds more like an excuse to not actually excersise to me. "Reaching for that vaccum cleaner really worked my arms!"

I'm tired.
-
Fifty more posts, then I'll go to bed.

I may have to revisit some Miyazaki films.

And then Miyazaki may have to revisit some of my films.

How many here have never seen a Miyazaki film?

Wow, elmore is up at three-thirty in the morning.

I am not looking forward to tomarrow night, the woman who is presenting the show really annoy's me.... she thinks I am her slave and if she asks me for one personal favor that does not benifit the show, I will have trouble concealing my annoyance.

Oh happy Birthday Pogue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

-
You now have four stars and are a Sr. Member.
-
Congrats on the four stars, Adriana! ;D
-
And Happy Birthday to DR Charles E. Pogue!
-
I'm going to have to think about the Topic of the Day. And I know that I will count a series of books as one selection...it's only fair. ;)
-
So I'll start with my first choice: the Benjamin Kritzer trilogy (and it really would be my first choice) :)
My second choice would be the five-book "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" trilogy by the late Douglas Adams.
My third choice would be Stephen King's seven volume Dark Tower series (I only read the first two...when they first came out). ::)
My fourth choice would be the Harry Potter series...including book #7 (I haven't ready ANY of them).
And I'll stop there.
-
...for now.
-
Good morning, all! Yes, I was up at 2:30 am. I had a very strange anxiety attack suspecting the neighbor above me of being a terrorist planning to bomb the apartment building. It sounds funny typing that but I don't know why the thought took over my reasoning and prevented my sleep. So I got out of bed around 3, played at the computer and went back to bed. I have a full day of ANNIE GET YOUR GUN, Toyland, and a visit with my Library of Congress friends. I suspect I will be a long one.
DR MBarnum, the Ballets Russes documentary scared you?

Happy Birthday to Mr. Pogue (no relation to David Pogue, an excellent technology/computer columnist for the New York Times).
-
Mr. Moore has just returned and I'm about to leave. I needs must get back to work. It's taken a while to get back into the grind of daily work but I'm progressing.
-
Was that a line from "Chinatown"?
-
Happy Birthday to DR & Wordsmith CHARLES POGUE - friend of June Wilkinson and Harlan Ellinson.

Happy Birthday to Pogue!!!!!
Happy Day to all of you.

Happy B day Charles Pogue!

Happy Birthday DR Charles Pogue.
And i'm just catching up with posts from yesterday.
Happy belated anniversary DR Ginny and Richard.
And re: TAR for DR TCB.
I'm not sure if anybody answered your question (if lance bass' boyfriend was in TAR allstars). His former boyfriend was Reichen from Chip and Reichen (winners). And no they are not one of the teams involved in TAR allstars. There is only one winner (joyce and uchenna). Although there is also one team that was dating during the show but broke up (jill and john vito). Hope that helps.
-
I'll take a wild guess where the The Colony Theater got its name.
From the film The Sandpiper

TOD:
Yes, the Kritzer books. I could be on the island and dream of Los Angles in the 50's and early 60's. Not bad.
"Almost Like Being in Love" Steve Kluger
The Oxford English Dictionary
A Pictorial History of the Talkies -- Daniel Blum
The Encyclopaedia of Imaginary Places
A few children's books and an art history book
That's a start-- there si much literature and many reference books I would consider.

I'm tired.
Sick and tired of love
I've had my fill of love
From below and above
Tired, tired of being admired
Tired of love uninspired
Let's face it
I'm tired
I've been with 1000's of men
Again and again
They promise the moon
They always coming and going
Going and coming
And always too soon

DR Jose, we don't get the Janice Modeling show here. So who is the Survivor contestant on it?
As for last night's AMERICAN IDOL, from what i saw my favorite was the 16 brunette (girl) with the long frizzy hair). She had that killer smile. And a really great voice.
OMG what was up with that 6' 7 woman? If i was 6'4 i would not wear 3 inch heels! :)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO DR CHARLES POGUE!
-
Thursday morning greeetings. My 10am appointment called to cancel due to illness, so now I have more time to figure out what I'm going to say to the college class that's visiting this afternoon.
Happiest of birthdays to DR Charles Pogue!
-
...David Pogue, an excellent technology/computer columnist for the New York Times).
DR Ben - in 2000, DH Richard and DS Rob went with me to Chicago for the American Library Association annual conference. It was so much fun to turn them loose in the exhibit hall and meet up later - they'd open their goodie bags and say, "Look what I got!" (like trick or treat). David Pogue, autographing books at the O'Reilly booth, was so nice to Rob, encouraging his interest in computers and letting me take a picture of the two of them.
-
Happy Birthday, DR Pogue.
And a Very Merry Unbirthday to the rest of us!
-
David Pogue is a great columnist and writer. I like him because he doesn't talk down to people, he's excited about what he does, he's intelligent but can share that intelligence in a way that most people can understand and he seems to be a genuinely nice guy, a seeming rarity nowadays. Before he became columnist for the NY Times he had a life in musical theatre. He was a musician and played in the pit of some Broadway shows!
-
Good morning!
We did get a bit of freezing rain, but the ice storm predicted for us just didn't happen, at least not yet. But it's super cold and not likely to warm up today. High in the mid 30s, they say. BBBBBrrrrrrrrrrrr!
-
Happy Birthday to C. E. Pogue!
-
Tonight is so chock-full of potentially memorable TV.
For comic book fans, we see the first incarnation of the Justice League of America on SMALLVILLE just filled to the brim with major male eye candy. Green Arrow, Aquaman, Flash, and Cyborg from previous seasons all turn up needing Clark's help. This should be a very entertaining hour of comic book-level fun.
-
On the music front, NBC's SCRUBS has a musical episode tonight with the songsd written by the talented Tony award-winning composers of AVENUE Q. What's more, Stephanie D'abruzzo guest stars on the episode. Should be loads of fun.
-
And over on ABC, we have the Golden Globe winner for Best Comedy (UGLY BETTY) and the Golden Globe Winner for Best Drama (GREY'S ANATOMY) airing back-to-back with new episodes. What a super night of TV on that network!
-
Over at CSI, we welcome Liev Schreiber as William Petersen's temporary replacement in the lab for the first of a story arc for him. The episode has gotten good advanced reviews, so it should be something to see, too. Always interesting when a new face enters an established ensemble cast, especially when the new face is going to be the new boss.
-
Desert Island books:
1. UP THE DOWN STAIRCASE
2. The Complete Plays of William Shakespeare
3. A SONG IN THE DARK
4. THE WORLD OF MUSICAL COMEDY (Stanley Greene)
5. SONDHEIM & CO.
6. NOT SINCE CARRIE
7. MOVIE AWARDS
8. REELING (Pauline Kael)
9. BROADWAY MUSICALS
10. MERRIAM WEBSTER DICTIONARY

Speaking of male eye candy brings to mind a certain Shakespeare photo we haven't seen around these parts in a while, so on that note (see sharp)... :)
Happy birthday DR Charles Pogue

Re AMERICAN IDOL last night:
One of the things I found really touching last night involved the brother and sister who were both passed along to Hollywood. After Simon told the brother he had a better voice than his sister (and the sister had said outside that she considereed that she had the better voice), the brother hedged his answer when Ryan Seacrest asked him who the judges thought had the better voice. I found that wonderful that he didn't embarrass his sister on national TV even though he could have very easily. I suspect those two siblings love each other very much, and it was a beautiful thing to see.
I guess it's moments like this that make suffering through all the bad singers tolerable. The IDOL editors are very canny about including this kind of footage amid all the bad singing and weird personalities.

Good Morning!
I'm up! I'm up!... "courtesy" of my cell phone...
"Hey, Jose. Are you available to play today?"
-When?
"Well... Now, actually. Our pianist hasn't shown up yet."
-What?.. Oh... Hmm... Well, it would take me at least a half hour to get down there right now.
"Oh, OK. Well, I'll call around, and I'll give you a call if I can't track someone else down."
-Oh, OK... Thanks.
-I'm guessing he found someone and/or the pianist showed up.
In any case... I'm up.
-
I'm up, I'm up. Blue skies today (we had some light rain yesterday).
-
Very nice lists so far - and am surprised and delighted to see the Kritzer books on a few of them.
-
I'm groggy, but I slept like a loggy.

Very cold in the home environment.

TOD:
All the books I would want to have on my island would be books I have not yet read. I would take along several Perry Mason novels, several "The Cat Who...." novels, assorted bios and autobios, and those funny "Bad Cats" and "Bad Dogs" books so I would have something to make me laugh.
-
I'm trying to move from here to there, but have only succeeded in moving from there to here.

That was quite philosophical, wasn't it?
-
I must shower, but in order to shower I must move from here to there.

If only I could remove the "t" from there I'd be here. Of course, I am here, so maybe if I add a "t" to here I'll be there. Yes, I'll add a "t".
-
Rodzinsky-Thanks for the warning on MEDIUM (I didn’t read the details). If we don’t like the episode we will turn it off instead of sitting through it.
-
We have a quorum on the forum. Obviously, I haven't added a "t" yet.

Can anyone tell me how to look up a seller on eBay?

Jane, go to eBay advanced search (usually at the top of any page). When you are taken to that page, look at the task bar over to the left. It has a clickable link to look up sellers and buyers.

Or, just use this handy-dandy link:

I love handy-dandy links, don't you? Why am I still here when I should be there?

Thanks all for the birthday felicitations!
My ten desert island books:

2) THE FAR CRY by Fredric Brown
3) THE GREEN MAN by Henry Treece
4) THE COMPLETE WORKS OF SHAKESPEARE
5) THE ODYSSEY
6) THE ILLIAD
7) THE COMPLETE WORKS OF GEORGE BERNARD SHAW
8 THE ANNOTATED SHERLOCK HOLMES
9) THE ESSENTIAL ELLISON
10) ROGET'S THESAURUS...that way I could write too, if I could find some paper on that desert island. I supposed I could use the margins of the Complete Works of Shakespeare, if I could find a pencil.
-
Well, I'm going there and when I'm through there I'll come back here. This sounds like an Ed Wood movie.

Where in the Hell did that smiling face come from?!!!!! Arghhh!!!
-
As for the Topic of the Day...
In no particular order:
"James and the Giant Peach" - Roald Dahl
"A Wrinkle In Time" - Madeleine L'Engle - And the rest of the Time Quartet
The Chronicles of Narnia - C.S. Lewis
"The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay" - Michael Chabon
"Am I Too Loud?": Memoirs of an Accompanist" - Gerald Moore
"Pet Sematary" - Stephen King - Nothing like a good scary read from time to time.
"Green Eggs And Ham" - Dr. Seuss
"100 Years of Solitude" - Gabriel Garcia Márquez
"The Lost Language of Cranes" - David Leavitt
"Letter To A Young Poet" - Rainer Marie Rilke
-
Where in the Hell did that smiling face come from?!!!!! Arghhh!!!
You probably need to reset the "no smilies" agan.
Otherwise....the "8" and the ")" you placed to its immediate right translate to 8)

Re: "American Idol" -- I'd give a pretty to know how much money the "Idol" producers pay those woebegone contestants who are set up for national humiliation.
Surely there's a stipend for the ridiculing, belittling and assassinating thrust upon those sorry folks.
Did any of our Seattle folks see anyone they know?
-
He mentioned on the "Survivor" finale that he was going to be on "Janice Dickinson". And since Janice always makes her models take off all their clothes at their initial photo-shoot/audition.... HOT!!!!

Yes, that was a nice touch -- especially after the outbursts of ego from so many of the untalented -- also the gal in the pink "net" that Simon said made her look sunburned. She was out there laughing with her friends afterward, admitting that her nerves got the best of her on the high notes, and that she hoped she was better than her audition or either her friends had been lying to her (and she really didn't have an awful audition, seemed nerves got a few of her notes but parts weren't that bad either -- she was poetry compared to "Red"...) -- but she came across as a good sport.

I don't watch SCRUBS but will definitely tape the musical episode. Does anybody know if it is 30 minutes or will it go over?

Happy Birthday, DR Pogue!
May there be lots and lots of cake in your immediate future!
-
I concur with DR Rodzinski's assessment of last night's "Medium."
I like this cast immensely, and nothing on TV matches the family dynamic...WHEN the family is actually interacting.
Last night....well....I knew murder had been done after her first dream. When I saw the flashback of the boy with the older man and the "lad", I knew instantly who that the "lad" was and what had probably happened.
I wasn't bored...but I certainly wasn't challenged.
What bent me out of shape, however, was the ending. If they're going to let us figure everything out before Allison does, how come we don't at least get to see the murderer's comeuppance?
-
oh, and is it just me, or can they put a sign on the correct exit door already -- or better yet, move that production assistant sitting in that hair over a few feet to block the locked portion and let her point to the unlocked side as they head out? I guess the producers found that funny watching the losers lose their last shread of dignity stuggling with the locked door -- but it got old real quick. Isn't there some guidline/rule in comedy about using a running gag up to three times, and after that it ain't funny no more?
-
Happy Birthday, DR Pogue!
May there be lots and lots of cake in your immediate future!
I wonder if there's some food he'd rather have....shrimp and grits? Kentucky BBQ? Ribs? Pecan pie?
Or something plain?

DR Jose: re: That Graae-tuitous photo you posted last night -- don't tell us that was Tommy Tune....it looks like Martina Navratilova to me!
Well, I was just "passing on" the caption that was listed in the original article. -Although, I have seen Mr. Tune walking around NYC recently, and I'd have to say, Yes, that's him in the pic. -And probably "standing" on his knees.

No, it's not just you. Simon apparently got a kick saying, "The 'other' door."
This has never been part of the audition ordeal before. In Minneapolis, it was a fluke. In Seattle it was a "planned thing."

As DR Ron Pulliam just said... It's not just you.

Re: american idol
I've always believed that there is a reason the delusionals are so shocked to hear they are bad.
You don't just get to automatically get to sing in front of simon, randy and paula. You have to go through a few preliminary rounds first.
These bad people are told that they've made it through each round.
Now what i want to know is if these people are told they are good before they make it through each round. Or if they are merely told they've made it to the next round.
Because if it's the former, and the bad ones are told they are good. Then i get why they would be shocked to find out they suck.
-
No one has figured out colonize at The Colony? Or has no one read the notes. Surely one of our film buffs can figure it out, what with the offer of a sparkling prize and all.
I read the notes, but before I put my reserach assistant on the task, I want to know what you mean by sparkling prize. If it's a bottle of sparkling water, I may put my RA on some other task, but if it is a sparkling diamond ring or bracelet, we'll put on our thinking caps pronto.
-
Sparkling prizes are always sparkling.
-
And never water.
-
Well, I suppose I shall be on my way to colonize at The Colony.
-
And do keep the home fries burning until my returning.

RE: last night's MEDIUM

I actually liked last night's episode. But i too missed seeing the kids. We didn't get one glimpse of them.
The one part i will agree on is that it was obvious who the "lad" (older boy) with the older gent was. I knew that immediately.
And as for the ending, i've gotten used to them ending abruptly. So this time it didn't bother me as much (since we basically knew what was going to happen).

Yes, "sparkling" is in the eye of the beholder.

Scroll back, DR MBarnum. When you come across the bare-chested male.. ;)

I did scroll, but I didn't see anything :(

Well... Since I was asked to come back on Monday to play the rest of the callbacks for the project that I had played for yesterday, I decided to postpone my "big move" yet again for another week. And, after the two phone calls I just received, not only do I have another reason for staying in NYC this weekend - yes, more auditions - but I may have to wait yet one more week to get the move done. :)
The Money or The Move? The Move or The Money?
Thankfully, I do find the Aero-Bed quite comfortable.

OK... Since I'm due for a haircut, I might as well get a haircut.
Laters...

This Survivor guy has nice arms, but he looks like he has sagging pectals.
"Sagging pectals"--who can remember what play that is from?
Sagging is in the eye of the beholder...so don't look at my butt!
-
OK... Since I'm due for a haircut, I might as well get a haircut.

Might as well....

I know what you mean. Trust me, I know what you mean.
And, according to the previews for next week's show, it seems that he might like you as a person too. If you know what I mean. LOL
Maybe that has something to do with the negative vibes DR Jennifer felt about him!
-
No "sechs", please....we're British.
-
I just read HERE (http://www.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/books/01/18/buchwald.obit/index.html) that Art Buchwald has died.
-
Yes.
-
I read some sad news today relevant to the film music community.
One of Bruce Kimmel's contemporaries -- a British chap named
David Wishart (http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.musicweb-international.com/film/photo1.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.musicweb-international.com/film/wishart.htm&h=361&w=243&sz=20&hl=en&start=16&tbnid=r_Hk596IUjLErM:&tbnh=121&tbnw=81&prev=/images%3Fq%3DDAvid%2BWishart%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26sa%3DN)-- passed last night from cancer. David had been sick for quite some time, and he had been in and out of hospital and taking chemo. Thankfully, he was able to be at home during Christmas, and he even posted a bit on some of the forums he frequented.
Wishart was a producer of soundtrack CDs. He had his own label for a while -- Cloud Nine Records -- on which he issued some treasured scores by Bernard Herrmann, Miklos Rozsa, Dimitri Tiomkin and John Williams.
He also worked extensively producing for Silva Screen Records (UK), and he produced many film music collections of British composers.
It's a devastating loss to the community -- David was a gentleman, an educator, a generous soul, and he had a wicked sense of humor. He was one of those people who never seemed to age, and I often accused him of having a grotesque portrait of himself under lock and key.
To have his voice silenced is an egregious loss.
-
Deserted...that's what this forum seems to be.
No posts in more than 30 minutes? On a Thursday?
And with me running rampant?
Get outta here!
-
It's lunch time in Oakland.
We are going to Milano's today...possibly for Orzo con Salsiccia (a chicken sausage), or possibly for one of the daily specials (can't wait to see what the soup is).
-
Perhaps when I get back
Samson Jose will have had his locks shorn and will be posting again.
-
It's a lucky thing it's time for lunch.
Or....I might pull a BK....and post 90 posts or so just because.
-
Maybe that has something to do with the negative vibes DR Jennifer felt about him!
No that would have been a different kind of vibe! :)
On the show he was not too nice. He was trying to control the whole tribe. ANd i think his tribe ending up blindsighting him and voting him out because of this.
-
I know what you mean. Trust me, I know what you mean.
And, according to the previews for next week's show, it seems that he might like you as a person too. If you know what I mean. LOL
I didn't remember this when you posted the picture. But wasn't there some kind of rumor about him around the time of the reunion show? My mind is sort of blank. But i remember something about this.

Everytime I've tried to post someone has come into my office to ask me something. And now that I am basically uninterrupted, I can't remember what I wanted to post about.
And yet, according to the Brain Age game I play on my Nintendo DS, I should have the brain of a 27 year old.
I guess he was glad to get rid of it.
-
I wonder if there's some food he'd rather have....shrimp and grits? Kentucky BBQ? Ribs? Pecan pie?
Or something plain?
I like cake...if it's soft and gooey...not that densely packed, triple chocolately chocolate stuff. But what I really like and what I used to have on all my birthdays in LA is House of Pies' coconut cream pie, topped with whipped cream , not meringue. Yum!

Happy Birthday Mr Pogue

Good news: I have new spectacles and it is raining.
-
Good Afternoon!
...And as I headed out of the barber shop, and started walking down 23rd Street... The snow started to fall.
Life is happiness indeed!
-
I haven't checked the weather lately, so I'm not sure if this will just be a bout of flurries, or something that may accumulate, but for now, I'm enjoying watching as the big flakes fall in our back patio.
-
Congratulations to DR Tomovoz on being able to see the falling rain!
It was snowing here earlier, but now it's just foggy.

No one has figured out colonize at The Colony? Or has no one read the notes. Surely one of our film buffs can figure it out, what with the offer of a sparkling prize and all.
Is it from "When Worlds Collide"?
-
Shel's Series: A Light in the Attic, Where the Sidewalk Ends, The Giving Tree, etc.
I liked Shel a lot! He was a very kind man. I used to see him at the children's book shop Books of Wonder.

I did not expect that to be on anyone else's list.

Now what is this show? I know you had mentioned it before but I have never heard of it and don't know what channel it is on.
I think I might like to see it ::)
-
DR Jennifer,
SCRUBS should be a traditional thirty minute episode. You might want to add a minute or two before and after the hour just for time inconsistencies.
-
Now what is this show? I know you had mentioned it before but I have never heard of it and don't know what channel it is on.
I think I might like to see it ::)
It's "The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency". It's on the Oxygen network. And, yes, it's trash TV. But trash TV with some nice eye candy. Janice Dickinson was the first "supermodel", and she's opened her own agency, and made the whole process into a "reality" TV show. -Just sooooo much drama. However, with Janice Dickinson, at you're very aware that is it she who is causing all the drama. And she knows it too.
Here's the link for the show's website: Janice Dickinson (http://www.oxygen.com/janice/)

We didn't get any snow, but it's been misting most of the afternoon and is still very cold - 32 right now.

I was just reading that in the newspaper. Shilpa Shetty is a wonderful Indian actress and I have enjoyed her in many films...I actually thought it odd that she would be on Big Brother Celebrity since she is not yet a has been actress...although she is at an age when her roles might start turning from ingenue to "mother" roles (I think she is about mid to late 30s now).
I might have to get this one when it comes out on DVD in England.

Lunch ran a bit long today, but I did have tme to watch several things.
I began with last night's THE KNIGHTS OF PROSPERITY. It was a fun episode as the guys and gal learned some martial arts to be able to deal with Mick Jagger's bodyguards. Some funny sight gags and montages.
-
Next came last night's CSI: NY, two murders fairly close together but totally unrelated. Both had surprise murderers.
-
I shall set my Tivo, DR Jose!
-
DRs, my Dad has pneumonia, and they fear the cancer has progressed to his lungs. I just spoke to him, he's weak and he will have a "procedure" tomorrow to drain his lungs (oy!). I think he could use all the vibes you can send toward Ohio.
Thanks.
-
Next, I finished TRAVELS WITH MY AUNT. It was an enjoyable AUNTIE MAME-type romp (but not nearly as memorable as AUNTIE MAME). I found it funny that TCM twice edited the word "bitch" from the soundtrack.
-
Oh, so sorry to read about your dad, DR Elmore. My thoughts and prayers are with him.

~~~~~VIBES TO DR ELMORE'S FATHER~~~~~
I finished the afternoon with the season premiere of ROME which I only got DVRed last night so I could get an HD copy. Much better to see the decapitations, burnings, and other violence that typifies this series. Despite the mayhem (which is part of its spell), I greatly enjoyed it. Sorry to know that the show was not renewed for another season past the one we'll be viewing now.
Dear Esteemed, prolific, pulchritudinous, and published BK --
I Have Returned.............. Yea!!
As you know, I was not being a prodigal son, or a sonigal prod, but rather had some computer challenges. I am happy to report that the nimble and pixie-like Mr. M. Bakalor diagnosed it, resolved it, and sent me the solution, all withing about 45 minutes!
I sent him such a glowing thank you note, that he probably thinks i was trying to pick him up. ::)
So, HUZZAH for Mr Bakalor.
An ethical question: While I feel great otherwise, my cough is lingering. But I have a ticket to see the Kristin Chenoweth concert at the Met tomorrow night and really want to see it. But I'm sure that my cough may annoy other patrons. Do I go and enjoy the concert, or would etiquette require that I not go in order to spare the people around me the annoyance of hearing a semi-persistent cough, or at the very least, a consistent onslaught of cough drops during the performance?
Guess I'll head down now for the cleaning chore of the day. Then, I'm thinking I may put in an episode of BONES from the DVD set since I missed it this week, and it won't be back next week either.
Oh, for fans of THE CLOSER, I read on-line that TNT has sealed a deal with Kyra Sedgwick to up her series commitment to the show through season 7, so looks like we're in for many more wonderful years with her wonderful character and this super show!
I just read HERE (http://www.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/books/01/18/buchwald.obit/index.html) that Art Buchwald has died.
And re: TAR for DR TCB.
I'm not sure if anybody answered your question (if lance bass' boyfriend was in TAR allstars). His former boyfriend was Reichen from Chip and Reichen (winners). And no they are not one of the teams involved in TAR allstars. There is only one winner (joyce and uchenna). Although there is also one team that was dating during the show but broke up (jill and john vito). Hope that helps.
Thanks, Jennifer. That is too bad. I might have actually watched if Reichen was on the show. He may be an ass, but he sure is a pretty one.
For those who have been curious...here is that famous nightclub dance sequence from the movie GUMNAAM (1965) of which BK, JRand56, and I have all loved!!
Halls cough drops work well for me, the paper wrappers are pretty easy to open quietly. You could just open a bunch and put them in a plastic baggie
Or you could give your ticket to a fellow artist who tried to get a ticket to the concert, but did not make it to the box office before it sold out.
;)
Seriously... I'm sure there will be other people coughing... And talking on their cell phones... Or filming the concert with their cellphones for YouTube.com...
Just see how you feel - and sound - in the morning, and take it from there.
Back from a good rehearsal - trying to keep the cast fresh now - I would not have chosen to do quite this many run-throughs at this point, but we have to because of tech issues, which are finally working themselves out. However, I think once we have a theater-full of screaming kids, it will all be fresh as a daisy.
I had an interesting thing with our producer/creator today - I'd given a note to an actor yesterday, asking him to try something - because the vocals on the songs are different voices, there's one solo bit that's a very LOW voice, which doesn't match our actor's voice at all. So, I had him do the line into the song, going from his higher normal voice into a low voice for his final line of dialogue - on purpose. He did it today and it got a big laugh - just perfect. We had to stop because of a tech issue and our producer/creator asked him to try it in a completely different way - doing the line in a completely phony high voice. I turned to him strongly and said, "No - it just worked perfectly." And he said "I want to try it this way," and proceeded to tell the actor how to do it. The actor just looked confused, because the producer/creator is not a director. The actor did it, and it was awful. Later, the producer/creator came up to me and told me I was right, but that he'd just wanted to try it. I told him that trying things is fine, but that he has to filter his actor notes through me - actors cannot have notes coming from anyone but the director - he totally understood.
-
And then when the actor did it at the second run-through, the way we'd done it with the low voiced last line, it got an even bigger laugh. I did not gloat, oh, no, I did not gloat.
VIBES OF HEALTH FOR DR ELMOORE'S DAD!
-
We had a lunch break today, so we wandered over to the mall and to the food court, and we got a couple of slices of Sbarro pizza. I have always hated Sbarro in NY, but had never had it out here. True to form, it was wretched and I was sorry to have wasted the calories on the piece and a half I had. To get the taste out of my mouth I had two Mrs. Field's sugar cookies. I also used my See's gift certificate and currently have a one-pound box of dark chocolate nuts and chews (and a few other things I found interesting) in my fridge.
-
I'm trying to decide if I should eat anything else - I think I might go to the Subway for something because one and a half slices of pizza probably isn't enough.
Good vibes for DR ELMORE's father.
-
This book of course. ;D
-
DR MBARNUM thanks for Jan Pehechaan Ho!
That Ted Lyons and his Cubs are the bees' knees.
And that sort of graceless dancing is usually reserved for Dancing with the Stars!
-
DRs, my Dad has pneumonia, and they fear the cancer has progressed to his lungs. I just spoke to him, he's weak and he will have a "procedure" tomorrow to drain his lungs (oy!). I think he could use all the vibes you can send toward Ohio.
Thanks.
My very best to you dad, DR Elmore.
-
And just to pay you back, I present:
A Bollywood Hippie Freakout!
BTW - I guessed CHINATOWN on page two. But I guess my post was skipped in the scheme of things.
Dear Esteemed, prolific, pulchritudinous, and published BK --
I Have Returned.............. Yea!!
As you know, I was not being a prodigal son, or a sonigal prod, but rather had some computer challenges. I am happy to report that the nimble and pixie-like Mr. M. Bakalor diagnosed it, resolved it, and sent me the solution, all withing about 45 minutes!
Good to have you back with us, MUSIC GUY!!
-
Don't you love it when EVERYONE gives notes?
-
Lots of WB musicals on TCM tonight. I haven't seen some of them. So I shall be watching....or listening at least.
MY NAME IS EARL - a very touching episode, that speaks to many people in the USA, I am sure.
Chaos and revelation on THE OFFICE.
-
And a party welcoming Oscar back and celebrating his Mexicanity - with Ryan putting a tilda over the "n" in Lemonade.
-
We haz slowed to a crawl....
-
An ethical question: While I feel great otherwise, my cough is lingering. But I have a ticket to see the Kristin Chenoweth concert at the Met tomorrow night and really want to see it. But I'm sure that my cough may annoy other patrons. Do I go and enjoy the concert, or would etiquette require that I not go in order to spare the people around me the annoyance of hearing a semi-persistent cough, or at the very least, a consistent onslaught of cough drops during the performance?
I have found Ricola cough drops to be very effective. I'd go, armed with a whole bag, and if it gets too bad just excuse yourself.
Well, Ladies and Gentleman, I believe we have a plan! After chatting with Steve earlier... Since I need and want to get my stuff out of storage in Richmond... And since Steve's been wanting to get back up to NYC for his sort-of-annual winter trip to the Big Apple... I shall be renting the truck and packing it up on Tuesday, the 30th. Driving it up to Fairfax that afternoon, and staying there that night. Then up to NYC Wednesday afternoon. And Steve will be be helping me load up the truck and be my second set of eyes on the road! -Then since JetBlue is still running those crazy fares, he'll be flying back to Richmond that weekend for only $29(!?!?!?!?!?).
-And I just made the truck reservation online too!
:)
*And I'll be heading down to Fairfax next week mid-week to care of a bunch of the ''pre-packing" and purging.
It's nice having a plan.
-
Thanks for the cough drop advice, and to take a dose of soemthing right before the concert starts. I'm on an aisle, so if it becomes real bad, i can just escape, I hope inconspicuously.
And people say we Virgos can't be spontaneous!
-
a man a plan - be careful of canals Jose.
-
Jose - so glad you can use the extra ticket. Happy whatever - there's always something to celebrate. (And the extra ticket is not right next to me, so Jose doesn't have to worry about catching my cough.)
Dear Friends Julie and Milla will be there also, but somehow we're all sitting separately.
-
I did beging the evening by watching an episode from the first season of BONES. It was the one set in New Orleans with Temperence being suspected of the murder of a clinic doctor. An exciting and somewhat gruesome episode with voodoo and the like figuring into the solution.
-
Since we had talked about it earlier this week, I took BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S off the shelf and watched the first 40 minutes of it. Always wonderful to revisit this classic.
-
UGLY BETTY had a lovely episode as Betty shows her loving thoughtfulness for her boss. Nothing remotely sexual, just a wonderful, kind friend doing something nice for someone in pain. What a beautiful gesture, especially with all the treachery going on all around them.
And that final revelation was something GREAT! Loved it!
-
And GREY'S ANATOMY had me tearing up a couple of times as George's father fought for life and various couples made adjustments in their relationships.
-
Page Twelve MELODY TIME Dance!!!
-
Back from Amoeba - I got a good person and great credit - got the Film Noir Volume 3 box, and a couple of French movies, one by Jean Pierre Melville, and one new one I'm taking a chance on.
-
Amoeba, which hasn't been crowded in six months, was a mess tonight because they had some loser band in there with all their family and friends.
-
Then, at eight, I stopped by the Subway - twelve people in line - at EIGHT! Of course, I was last, and after me there were no people in line and no people came and I just had the bad fortune of arriving at exactly the stupidest time with all sorts of nefarious idiots ahead of me.
-
I finished my evening of viewing with tonight's CSI. Liev Schreiber made a rather low key bow onto the show, and the case of a serial killer who murdered once every ten years or so was just moderately interesting. Ned Beatty was the principal guest star.
-
I'll have all the NBC comedies to watch tomorrow as well as the CW's slate of SMALLVILLE and SUPERNATURAL.
I suspect tomorrow, I'll watch SMALLVILLE first. I would have watched it tonight, but because CSI is such a dark show, it's better seen at night with as little ambient light in the room as possible.
-
I had been planning on asking here if the DROWSY CHAPERONE vinyl LP had ever been released. But I just spotted an item on Playbill-Online that Ghostlight is now selling it at their website at $50.00 a pop! Only 1000 disks were printed, so maybe that price is warrented. But still...
-
Well DRs and H/Ks, I finished my few little evening things, and now am ready to fall over early this evening.
Dear Larry.... I'll say a special prayer this evening for the best outcome for your Dad....
And to dear Esteemed and (hopefully by now) well-fed BK --
"goodnight Lucy, you red-headed temptress!"
-
Heading down to bed myself.
Good night!
-
Glad to see MusicGuy is back where he belongs.
-
It's 12:12 and we're on page 12. What are the odds of that?
-
Since 8:52, one post. I see.
-
I see that I will have to now make 137 more posts.
-
Will we never get to page thirteen?
-
Well, who can say? It's only ten-thirty and I'm through with my DVD viewing for the evening.
-
The Subway Club was quite yummilicious this evening, and I even had a couple of pieces of See's Candy.
-
Good Morning!
Since I WILL be going to IKEA in the morning, I went ahead and did one last round of measuring and figuring-things-out. Time well spent. I even went ahead and shifted the contents of some of my shelves in order to make tomorrow's re-configuring easier.
Again, it's nice to have a plan. Finally.
-
And since I should have been in bed awhile ago...
Goodnight.
-
Miss Adriana Patti came and went without so much as a greeting.
-
And now I'm the only one in the jernt.
-
The new notes are written, so I'm just hanging out.
-
Will we ever get to page thirteen?
-
Well, if I have anything to say about it we will.
-
Ye Olde iPod is on and Mr. Andre Previn's Two For The Seesaw is playing.
-
Will we never get to page thirteen?
-
I feel it - I sense it -
-
Soon - I promise -
-
Oh, come ON, the suspense is killing me.
-
Okay, either I added wrong or page twelve is trying to give me the gaslight treatment.
-
By my count, this is post number thirty-one on page twelve.
-
Finally! I thought I was going MAD.
