Well, you've read the notes, the notes were night and day, and now it is time for you to post until the night and day cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: EIDETIC!
-
Topic of the Day: I've had some really good food experiences during this year, mostly recently with all the goodies that people have brought in to work, but I'll have to think about a "favorite" food experience.
-
And on that note (F#), I'm outta here and off to bed.
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, all!
-
Well, I slept well last night. I woke around midnight and slept until some time after 5:00 when Annabelle crawled under the blankets with me. Stella was either well-behaved last night or I wil find later the mischief that occupied her.
-
Today is a quiet day. Yesterday, I had my lab work and then I returned home to lug 40 lbs of kitty litter and 13 lbs of Meow Mix up to my apartment from the lobby.
-
I will work on Oh, Boy! today after the apartment is tidied up.
-
BK. given your affection for Hänsel und Gretel, I'm surprised you haven't moved on to his lesser known opera. It's not nearly as fun as H&G.
-
DR George, your mother was really lucky yesterday. I'm happy the thief was caught.
-
Good morning, everyone.
-
I am loathe to let go of my beloved Christmas music.
-
Glad that DR George's DM enjoyed good fortune.
-
Looking forward to another 3-day weekend in another few days.
-
I'd never even heard of that other Humperinck opera!
-
Good morning, all.
-
I am loathe to let go of my beloved Christmas music.
Why let go? We have a bit to go before Twelfth Night.
-
Had an irritating dream where I had to make a gingerbread team display for work and include all of the team members. It had to be holiday themed, and I have someone on my team who doesn’t observe holidays. It was very stressful.
-
And now this mornng MY car wouldn't start. My brother is going to give me a jump start and then I will take it to the car place and SIT and look at them until it is fixed.
-
Ugh. Car vibes for JRAND.
-
Why let go? We have a bit to go before Twelfth Night.
Yes! I just meant that the streaming and special holiday channels are starting to disappear. :-X
-
Oh no, DR Jrand70! I am sorry. I am sure by now you have mastered the withering glare. May it succeed forthwith.
-
I imagine it will still be Christmas on the Hallmark Channel for quite some time yet.
-
Jane, I do qualify for phase 1B, but I don’t think I’ll get the vaccine until I get back to Texas. 1A is for emergency workers and the elderly.

Cats have superpowers, you know.
-
I just put away my Fairway grocery delivery, and I will lie down for an hour with the cats before I start moving again.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I woke up at 3:30 in the a.m. for no apparent reason at all, and didn't get back to sleep till sometime around five. In addition to feeling logy from that, I also feel it could be a light allergy day, so I'm hoping to nip that in the bud and carry on. I'll take a Benadryl tonight to get that feeling out of my system and get a more solid sleep.
-
BK asked where we're getting the free Met Opera streams.
Go to this page: https://www.metopera.org/user-information/nightly-met-opera-streams/
Scroll down to where they list what's playing this week. Sometimes they'll have more than one week's listing up, so check the dates. They've been into "themes" lately and this is "Pavarotti Week". Each opera is available for about 23 hours.
-
I don't know if they've streamed the Renée Fleming Rusalka. If they do, I want to see it. I know they've shown the more recent "Live in HD" production from a couple of years ago.
-
They have streamed a production of Rusalka, but I don’t remember who was in it.
-
Two!
-
I don’t want to work. I want to lay in the sun all day.
Sadly, it’s 30 degrees here. And cloudy.
-
Battery replacement but it was under warranty so no charge....except my two hour wait.
Of course at first they couldn't find the receipt in the their system....I was a bit surprised....and said this and that.....and the man said "We're responsible because YOU lost YOUR receipt?"
I just said .... no. And sat down to wait trying to think of all the other shops in town where I could take my car next time.
And then about half an hour later - he brought me a copy of my receipt which he had found "in the system."
I just said "thanks."
-
Good Morning! I've been E&T the last few days as I came down with some sort of stomach issue early Sunday morning. I spent most of Sunday on the couch with the boys, and most of yesterday as well. Today, I'm back to normal. All is well. I have some apartment stuff to do today, and I hope to get on my bike at some point today as well and take a little ride. The weather is crisp today, perfect time to bundle up and get out.
-
DR Jane - for the manhattans I made the other night, I used Bullet Bourbon and dry vermouth, I know you are suppose to use sweet, but that's what I had on hand, bitters and cherries - from Trader Joes, they are great. I have rye as well, but I chose Bullet for these.
-
DR George I am glad your mother's story ended well yesterday.

Ditto!

This is also different than the news report I read. Phase 1b is not before first responders. They just dropped the age to begin at 65. Instead of being in 1c I would be in 1b. You remain in the same phase as with the CDC.
When are you returning home?
-
I think the Texas website is better than our Washington one, plus ours only explains phase 1a and doesn't go beyond it. I am just going by the CDC recommendation which puts me in 1c and am guessing it will be the same here.

Sounds like he was having a bad day. I hope you find a friendlier place next time. At least it was free but what a long wait.
-
DR Matthew I am glad you are feeling better.

Thanks for the description. I don't think I like a dry vermouth in anything.

Don't you hate it when that happens?? ::)

Good news about the no charge, but what a rude comment about the receipt! I've been fortunate to have never had this problem where I take my car. Other than the dealer, it's the only place that I've ever taken it, so they have the complete record for almost all of its life.
-
DR George I am glad your mother's story ended well yesterday.
Thanks, Jane!
-
I've paid my bills, which I will mail tomorrow on my way to my doctor's appointment.
-
Tuesday afternoon greetings! I woke up at 4:30 this morning and after tossing and turning and, maybe, dozing a bit, finally got up at 5:45. Needless to say, Richard found me asleep in my recliner when he got up and still asleep when he returned from his walk.
-
I'm up, I'm up - eight hours of sleep.

We usually ask for Bullet rye. Antica is a good staple. Do you have a preference?
We have had especially delicious rye Manhattans made with Cocchi and Cinzano Rosso though we never experimented with them at home.
-
Thanks for the Met Opera streams information, DR ChasSmith.

"The Music of the Night."
Wouldn't that make a great song title? 8)

I prefer something smooth, like Bullet either bourbon or rye - Makers is good as well, but that's whisky. Someone gave me a bottle of Knob Creek for Christmas -99 proof. Last time I had Knob Creek it ended up in the sink, to oak-y for me. I'm willing to give it another try, of course. I actually have some Rosso vermouth, I'll have to try that next time.

I am also not a fan of oaky. If you try the Rosso please let me know, not that we keep it at home anymore. If you are a Northern Exposure fan, it was at the Brick that we had the delicious rye Manhattan's with the Rosso.
Funny, I will order Bullet for my mixed drinks but prefer other brands when I drink Bourbon or Rye neat.

:) Almost always true. Sherlock was the only dog that did not clean up crumbs.
When Craig was 8 months old we stayed with Keith's parents. To my horror I suddenly realized his mother kept cleaning the floor under the high chair. Two kids and I had never had to do that unless it was a liquid spill.

It looks delicious. I am not sure about the ice in the drink as it appeared to already be melting. Still, I thought the ice maker was cool, and perfect for an Old Fashioned :)

Yeah - no ice in a Manhattan! But that ice reminds me of an ice cube mold of The Death Star which I just got for Christmas!

Good afternoon.

One time when I had a dead battery, my local service chain had recently been sold to a national chain. The local owner hit "delete" on everyone's service history. All my records were gone. The new snippy receptionist declared I needed a receipt for the warranty. I waved down the frazzled manager, who said -- "Put in a new one for her; only charge for labor."
The snippy receptionist didn't last long. The manager is still there and is the guy I trust with my car. We've been customers there since before we bought the '98 Toyota. He certainly didn't want to lose us.
-
Jane, if I'm not mistaken, state health departments are able to make their priority lists. Maybe even county health departments.
-
TOD: Food experiences during the pandemic? I think I have cooked everything except our anniversary dinner, which was takeout Chinese food. Oh, and a couple of visits to our favorite family-owned Mexican place.
-
According to everything I've seen, I'll be getting my vaccination during the summer. Sigh.
-
What a day so far.
-
Car started, so that was good.
-
Picked up two packages and a screener called Nomadland, which sounds like something I would never want to see and so I won't.
-
Went to Gelson's and got a chicken Caesar and some garlic bread for food, came home, was putting stuff away when the phone rang. It was Vitello's saying my order was ready. Yep, I had this HUGE piece of paper next to the computer saying PICK UP VITELLO'S AT TWO ON TUESDAY. So, I put everything away quickly (thankfully the chicken Caesar is good until Thursday) and drove to Vitello's. The cars on Moorpark were so ridiculously slow and you can't get around them until it finally splits into two lanes at Laure Canyon. I got the food and drove right home with ever stupider cars in front of me, slowing down about a block before a signal just in case it was going to turn red - only it didn't turn but they were going so slow that as they FINALLY got to the signal it started to change and of course they stopped before the yellow had barely come on - four cars could have easily have gotten through. Drivers in LA are morons.
-
Miraculously, despite all that, my spaghetti and meatballs were still very hot, so I ate that all up and I had a Caesar, too, which I'm eating now. All very good.

And I'm listening to the ENO/JAY recording of Street Scene, which is one of the most ineptly produced CDs I've ever heard and I've heard some doozies. I think because they issued it in Dolby Surround for reasons too ignorant to even discuss (why would you want voices coming from BEHIND you for a stage show? But they clearly didn't care about the regular CD listeners, so every time someone in the rear channel speaks it's like they're four blocks away and a mile to the west. Inept. The band on the vocal tracks can barely be heard - it's worse than Mauceri in that regard. And the cast I've been watching in the ENO video on YouTube, which is terrific, is not on this recording at all and the people who've replaced them are not so good, with a couple of them verging on amateur, acting-wise. And interestingly, the sound on the ENO broadcast, which is probably from a VHS tape, is superior to this thing. Glad to hear it, but wow. The Mauceri is the one for a complete recording.

Smart manager. That is shocking they deleted all the receipts. In this day and age we expect our accounts to contain our service information.

Jane, if I'm not mistaken, state health departments are able to make their priority lists. Maybe even county health departments.
I believe all the states had to submit a "plan". Washington submitted one, not that it says much. From what I have seen most states are following the CDC recommendations. I don't know which states might be leaving it up to the counties.
-
According to everything I've seen, I'll be getting my vaccination during the summer. Sigh.
Sounds about right :(
-
Car started, so that was good.
It is always good when the car starts. I have had a couple that were not reliable, a situation made more difficult by the fact the boys were young.
-
I miss my kitchen Roomba.
I know the feeling.

While walking on the beach this afternoon we realized the log in the water was actually a beaver. We followed him for awhile and were rewarded with our first on-land beaver sighting.
Once again I cannot share it here. I do have the photo on FB.

Here it is...substantially reduced, but uploadable!

That's a great picture, Jane!
-
Thanks George. Keith's new phone takes fairly good photos. Unfortunately we couldn't get closer.
-
That is Mt. Hood in the background.
-
And here's the other beaver picture:
-
This one didn't have to be reduced as much to get it under the size limit.

Thank you. It shows how we could easily have mistaken it for a log.

I love that!

Thanks Ginny.

Taking another step of progress in my Fellini tour, I just watched Spirits of the Dead which I had only seen once, some years ago, in a poor DVD transfer. Thankfully, the Arrow Blu-ray is beautiful -- once you make sure you've got your preferred combination of language tracks and subtitles (or lack thereof) loaded. (If you accidentally load the all-French version, you get the horrid old DVD transfer.)
Cutting to the chase, Fellini's Toby Dammit segment with Terence Stamp is just incredible.
-
I just turned the clock radio on to set a wake-up time for tomorrow and one of the local FM stations is playing a live performance recording of The Merry Widow. A nice little treat, but it also reminds me:
Aren't we in Die Fledermaus season, what with New Year's Eve and all? I wonder why we're not getting a performance of that on the MET streams. Or was there never a telecast of it? There must have been.
-
Listening to a terrific opera by Hans Krasa, another Entartete album from Decca - really like it a lot. And yet another composer murdered by the Nazis - forty-four years old.
-
DR George, your mother was really lucky yesterday. I'm happy the thief was caught.
Thanks, Larry! I think everyone was happy at that!
Except the thief of course
-
I however don’t care about him and celebrate your mothers good fortune in recovering her jacket and keys

Which is not a bad thing! ;D
-
I started to watch The Year 2020 on ABC and realized that the year was so bad, I don't need to relive any of it.
-
That is, on a national level.
-
So, I think I'm going to go read for a while. I'm almost halfway through Greenwillow and am mostly charmed by it. Some of it can get a little twee.
-
I'm off, too, but I'm going to Fred Meyer to get a new battery for my mom's thermometer. Isn't that just thrilling?? ;)
Be back later.
-
Good night, all.
-
Finished with my viewing - the last thirty minutes of The Boys from Brazil.
-
Apparently, the ENO video of Street Scene is from 1993 and was a re-do of their 1989 production with an entirely different cast and I must say I prefer it vocally in almost every instance to what I heard on the JAY recording.
-
When do you get your test results Tom?

Mostly charmed tempted me to read it. My libraries don't have it and I am not tempted enough to buy it.

The downtown area of Washington state’s little Bavarian town of Leavenworth Is currently being evacuated du to a bomb threat.
-
Does someone suspect a copy-cat?
-
DR George, your mother was really lucky yesterday. I'm happy the thief was caught.
They damn well better catch the thief, they have more cameras in that place than Cecil B. DeMille had for THE TEN COMMANDMENTS.

What is this page four garbage?
-
Is everyone out of town for the holidays?
-
One more post.

P A G E F I V E
-
Maybe I can call slingblade and wake him up to come post with me!
-
Or, perhaps one of our five Guests would like to start posting?
-
I am in one p***ed off mood this evening.
-
Not really, but it was a post.
-
Maybe John will wake up and come play!
-
Or maybe not.
-
I did almost nothing today.
-
And I felt guilty about it.
-
Don’t ask me why.
-
So, tomorrow will be chore(s) day.
-
I hope George is okay.
-
Hell, I hope I am okay.
-
I guess I will know after Thursday.
-
I know I will have a new inhaler. It comes free with my test.
-
I am off to bed. Sorry, but I am brain dead.
-
Good night, nobody.

Thanks, Vixmom!! :D

I was just dilly dallying on the computer and now I need to reset my e-mail password, but it's not letting me. :P
-
Good night, nobody.
Good night, Tom. Sorry I missed you.
-
I'm off, too, but I'm going to Fred Meyer to get a new battery for my mom's thermometer. Isn't that just thrilling?? ;)
Be back later.
I went to the jewelry section and they said that 2-pack batteries were out in the stacks (my phrase...it's a library term) and would be cheaper, but there weren't 2-packs out in the stacks.
-
But I needed the battery, so I got it.
-
I also got a new battery for my doorbell, but I didn't know exactly which size to get, so I got two and will take back the one that isn't right.
-
I found that my doorbell is defective and only one chime sounds. :(
-
I love my doorbell because it uses real metal bars to make the chimes, not electronically created sounds, and now I need to try and (maybe) find another one...or I could just live with one chime. We'll see.
-
PAGE SIX DANCE!!
