Well, you've read the notes, the notes had both eyes and teeth, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're coming home soon and will have eyes and teeth with them.
-
And the word of the day is: DOULA!
-
Done, bed, goodnight
-
Up, good morning.
-
Saturday....and for the first Saturday in a LONG time....maybe this year already.....I am not working. No, today is the day of my niece's graduation LUAU.....lots of work....and lots of fun.
That's the plan, anyway.
-
Hmmmmmmmmm.....thanks to a lot of the 1940's musicals, we were "there" when many songs were written....so....hmmmmmm.....
I shall have to see some of the other DR's choices....I think. Of course I would like to have been around them Ronald Stein was writing the score for Attack of the 50 Foot Woman....but that is hardly the American Songbook.
-
Morning all.
-
This early evening we will have the pleasure of a visit by the lovely Mr. Moore.
-
DR Vixmom, I just voted again. I didn't realize we could vote every day.

Saturday morning greetings! It's a beautiful day here in SW Ohio and it's "turnaround day" for me. Got everything unpacked from my business trip to Columbus and today I'm getting ready to leave again tomorrow. Richard and I are going from Lima to the Chicago 'burbs for a couple of days, then on to alumni day and graduation at his seminary in Wisconsin.
-
Good morning, all! I've got a morning of final OZ edits followed by luncheon with Tripp Phillips, our FINIAN'S RAINBOW stage manager. After a few more hours of edits and notes, I will head to the 18th Street to visit with DR Ben and Anthony/ It's been too lpng and there is much to catch up on.
Last night I finished BK's new book, which I very much enjoyed, so I have to find something to read. I have several choices, including a couple of mysteries by one of the Zelnik brothers, the book writer for YANK! I'm rereading OZ BEFORE THE RAINBOW and I will be rereading it again as soon as I finish this round; I'm still thinking about my July discussion before the presentation of the 1902 WIZARD OF OZ. I'm currently thinking about discussing the show's genesis, director Julian Mitchell, his career and his use of the same performers over and over.
And so, to some edits.

Ihave to go to the dentist today at 1 to finish out my root canal so if I am going to get any flowers planted I had better get going

It took me a long time to fall asleep last night, and I really was hoping to sleep until nine. Maybe I'll just get back in bed.

Maybe?

Maybe I'll take a shower and get ready, too. I have to do a couple of errands and whatnot before heading over to LACC.

Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And it looks like another beautiful spring day outside, and I'm doing laundry inside.

BK,
I, too, really liked A SERIOUS MAN. In fact, I think it was the best movie of 2009.
On the other hand, RAISING ARIZONA is one of my least favorite Coen Brothers films, probably because I'm not a fan of Nicholas Cage or that kind of "Yahoo" kind of comedy.
The brothers do run hot & cold. I'm a big fan of FARGO, MILLER'S CROSSING, BLOOD SIMPLE and BURN AFTER READING.
The most of others, including NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, I'd rate a B or B+. LADYKILLERS and RAISING ARIZONA get a C-.
Frankly, I think they're making a big mistake remaking TRUE GRIT. You never remake a classic...only a flop.
Jeff Bridges is perfect casting for the role of Rooster, but no matter how wonderful he might be in the part, he's always going to be compared to the memory of the original, and he is not John Wayne.
-
As for the Topic of the Day...
"Love Is Here To Stay" - There have been a couple of stories of just how this song was written, and it would be nice - and I'm pretty sure quite bittersweet - to know the real one.
-
What a great TOD question.
There are so many that I love, but I wonder how exciting it would be to watch. I am sure none of them were created in the fashion of all those MGM composer biography musical. e.g. The genesis of the title song from Three Little Words
-
I hope our Dear Larry doesn't try to find us on 18th Street since we won't be there!

Laura:
I have a flying outfit. So I won't set the metal detector off.
I stopped wearing a belt, aside from that I've never had a problem with clothes. I even had a pair of jeans with tons of pockets that zipped & didn't set off alarms. Those pockets were very convenient, especially for my license or passport.
TCB, will I still have to take off a belt?
-
Jose, then SAFE & SMOOTH traveling vibes for your brother & girlfriend!

Yesterday I didn't care for a photo posted on FB. I thought by clicking on "hide" I wouldn't have to look at it. Instead it hid all the postings from my FB friend. Now I can't figure out how to un-hide this person.
I thought there was a way to remove unwanted postings.

Remember the good old days, when FB meant Forbidden Broadway?

DR Jane - Scroll down to the bottom of your FB homepage. You should see "Edit Options" - click on that. A box will pop up listing the people you've "hidden". Just click the "x" next to the name to "un-hide" that person.
As for hiding individual pics, well... That's not really possible. You can hide certain applications, as well as un-Tag yourself, but hiding an individual pic is not an option. You can choose to "Hide" "Photos", I believe, but then you'd be hiding everyone's Photos in your News Feed.
-
Thanks Jose. Of course I looked everywhere, except the bottom of my home page. ;D When I was searching for a way to return the person's posts I noticed the photo was gone. She is from Rome & I couldn't read all the comments, maybe someone suggested it be removed. From what I could tell the initial responses were funny.
If you were to post hello on my personal wall, can I remove that?
-
Good morning everyone.
Hope the day is beautiful and pleasant for us all.
Overcast here, but the plants seem to love it. Starting to flower.
;D

Sorry to miss bk's event today. The rooms in town went from 89 a night to 139 in Burbank, and 115 to 166 in Studio City, I can't afford those summer rates. The cheaper motels are filled with drugs etc. No thanks to that. My driving into town on the weekends are out. I'm putting 600 miles on the car every week. That's enough for me. Next friday night I'm trying to sleep in Northridge so I can go to the booksigning on Saturday.
Other than that, I need to concentrate on things here at my new home. Cleaning out the 10 x 10 storage locker before the 30th, putting all the stuff for the garage sale in July in the 5 x 5 storage locker, and I have not dusted or cleaned the house since I moved in. I have not had time.
-
The plan was to be home by 5:30 during the week, listen to one cd, then watch one movie before sleep at 10:00. I have not managed to do that once yet. The weekends were supposed to be filled with long walks and to lose 40 lbs, neither of those have happened either.
And reading, what happened to my reading ? I do get 2 hours of listening to NPR radio in everyday during the drive in the car so that is good.
I just don't know where the rest of my time disappears to.
-
I did pick up the 2 new cd releases from bk at the post office yesterday, so that will be a nice treat for the weekend. It's almost 10AM, so I guess I can turn up the music.
Then off to the storage locker and some yard work. Or as my neighbor says, looks like I'm nesting.
-
DR Sam I hope soon you will be able to manage the long walks & lose the weight. Vibes to you!!
-
Great posts the last 2 days. This computer is getting slower and slower. I'm getting older and slower too.
Hugs. ;D ;D
Till later. Vibes, vibes, and more vibes. :) :)
-
Thank you Jane. In my 20's I only weighed 106 at the most. :'(
-
Flying outfit. I'd go with sweats (although I think they call them jogging or workout clothes now), some of them are quite hip these days (and expensive). That's what I bought my kid when she went to NY and London.
I watched the rest of Royal Wedding the other night, there was a short scene of the audience during a broadway show where all the women were wearing furs and ball gowns.
-

You're welcome, Jane.
And, yes, you can remove individual posts from your Wall.
-
To the weekend. ;)
-
Hi Jose. How's NY.
-
Apparently, UPS tried to make a delivery here this morning, but since the sender did not put an apartment number on the label, they did not "fully" attempt the delivery. Hmmm... However, the UPS store did call me a little while ago to inform me of the delivery attempt, as well as to ask what my apartment number is. They said they will try to delivery it (again) this afternoon. -Oh, the delivery is from a company I work with in Memphis, so it could be ribs or candy or both! ;)
-
I stayed up way too late last night, and got up way too early this morning.
I am awak, but barely, and I must mow the lawn.
-
I am quite thrilled and excited about BK and David's new movie script!

And Ditto to this, too!
-
Well, last night we had a very good performance of The Brain From Planet X! The audience wasn't as responsive as one would want, but they were very appreciative. The consensus among the actors was that it was one of our best performances, so we felt good about it. :D
Only tonight's show...and then it's over. :'(
-
After last night's show, Heather (our Joyce) and her husband Michael hosted a cast part at their house. If any of you read my Facebook update that I posted during intermission last night, it had to do with our cast party, later that evening. Amy (our Donna) had her laptop in the dressing room and I was coerced...nay, FORCED by Kim (the Naughty Nurse) to post what I posted ;):
George Dougherty and Kim Ennis Holm are rather excited to experience Michael Christopher's tangy, yet slightly salty and moist balls, tonight, after THE BRAIN from Planet X ~The Musical by Bruce Kimmel.
The running gag (pun intended) with Heather and Michael's parties is that Michael always makes meatballs and just about everyone says things like, "I can't wait to have Michael's balls in my mouth." Or..."Michael has the best balls EVER." Stuff like that.
And it NEVER gets old! ;D
-
I brought my DVD copy of BK's very own "The First Nudie Musical" with me last night because Heather said that she wanted to watch it. When she put it on, there were about six or seven of us watching it and pretty much everyone loved seeing a very young BK ("I'm older than I look...I'm 23") as director John Smithee. Someone though you had a very Paul Rudd-ian quality. I said that actually, Paul Rudd has a very Bruce Kimmel-ian quality! ;) We laughed a lot during the movie and a lot of people were VERY excited about the future stage adaptation! We didn't get through the whole movie, because it was started quite late. I was one of the last people to leave and got home at about 2:30.
-
And soon, I must get ready to go to work. I was hoping to get to work earlier (so that I could make up some more time), but I didn't. I'm still at home. Anyway, after work will be our very last performance of The Brain From Planet X, then we have to strike the set. Fortunately, it shouldn't take too long, as long as EVERYONE stays to help. Actually, there are a few people who are in rehearsals for another show(!) and they have a rehearsal tomorrow morning, so they've been excused, but I don't think that there are very many...only four or five people.
And that will be it.
-
I hope our Dear Larry doesn't try to find us on 18th Street since we won't be there!
That's my subway stop!
I am back from a wonderful brunch with my friend Tripp, only to learn that a dear friend Fredric Woodbridge Wilson, former curator of the Morgan Library's Gilbert and Sullivan Collection and current curator of the Harvard Theatre Collection, has died. I had heard only recently of his cancer and today's news is very sad for me. Visiting him at the Morgan Library was always a treat and filled with pleasant surprises, and at one point, when Oxford University Press had asked him about editing an edition of the Gilbert & Sullivan operas, he asked me to be a partner in the project. I was terrible about keeping in touch when he relocated to Boston, and I constantly threatened to visit, but I always knew I could rely on him via email and phone. I will miss him.
-
Larry, I'm so sorry to hear about your dear friend. My condolences.
-
And now, I'm off to work, then the last night of The Brain.
Until later...much, much later!
-
Travel vibes to DR Jose's brother and girlfriend. ~~~~~~~~
Happy graduation day to DR Jrandy's Niece!

Interesting for tv viewers here is a list of the shows that have been cancelled, those that have been renewed and those that are on the bubble:
Some of interest: HEROES is cancelled, FLASHFORWARD is cancelled.
The one that i am really concerned about is MEDIUM.

DR Elmore - condolences on the loss of your friend.
-
Doesn't A SINGLE MAN star Colin Firth?
-
I came home after that for about three minutes, then had to deliver a big box o' CDs to a local dealer and then had to meet Mr. David Wechter - we'll be starting to write in earnest next week.
I am looking forward to IN EARNEST.
-
Doesn't A SINGLE MAN star Colin Firth?
Yes, but the Coen Brothers film is A SERIOUS MAN.
-
Thank you, DRs Vixmom and George, for the vibes for Richard for tonight's concert. I just have to help him remember to take his kazoo.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend, Elmore.

Thank you all for the condolences. It was a nasty surprise.
I've corrected and sent corrections on the OZ scores, and I will proceed to DR Ben's now.

Thank you Jane. In my 20's I only weighed 106 at the most. :'(

DR Jose, thank you for posting on my FB wall so I could "remove" it.

Afterwards the Vixter and I managed to get another 2 flats of impatiens planted

I certainly wish I could come to New York this summer. I can't believe how many years it has been. The WTC was still standing.

thankyou! I cannot beleive she is already 17... where did the years go?

I....HAVE ARRIVED.
...MAN this is wierd, I'm sitting next to Mom, but we're talking on here instead of with our mouths...it's like something out of a bad sci-fi movie. o-O
-
I am begining to think that I am going to pass on doing SLEUTH. The first time I did the play was 35 years ago.
-
The Andrea event was stellar - excellent crowd (over fifty), and she was a constant delight, answering each and every question with good humor and much honesty. Shelly Markham was wonderful - she sang two songs and everyone had a great time. After some of us went to Palermo, as that was going to be the only chance to eat. I had the small version of salsiccia with penne and a couple of small pizza slices - I'm quite full now. I am indeed seeing a show this evening.

-
Bruce, I wish that every autobiography read as beautifully as your book.
-
Has she made college plans?
Not yet - since she has already completed most of the requirements needed to earn her high school diploma she is applying for a program that would allow her to take college courses at the local community college in the mornings - the school would bus her to the college ands abck again after the clasee . She would take 6 credits a semester - and since she already has 3 college credits from another course she took last year she could actually graduate high school with 15 college credits
VIBES to the Vixter in getting admitted to the program!

Here is the honey cake with raisins recipe for DR Jane:
2 eggs
1 cup of sugar
1 cup of honey
less than 1/2 cup of vegetable oil
1 cup cold strong tea
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp bakiing powder
2 1/4 cups of flour
1/4 tsp each of allspice, sinnamon, ginger and cloves
1 cup of raisins
Using a hand mixer cream eggs and sugar. Then add honey (heat it a bit if hard). Add oil. Mix in tea, followed by dry ingredients.
IT should be a little thick but not too thick. If it seems really loose you can add a bit more flour. Beat until smooth.
Then add raisins. And pour in round bundt pan.Set oven to 350F but turn to 325F when you put the cake in the oven. It should take about 1 hour.
I always sprinkle some extra raisins on top as the others sink.

VIBES!!!

I....HAVE ARRIVED.
...MAN this is wierd, I'm sitting next to Mom, but we're talking on here instead of with our mouths...it's like something out of a bad sci-fi movie. o-O
This is super cute! :)

I have had a busy day. I am not as young as I used to be.
-
My busy week is at an end.
My next project, now that the wedding is over and done with, is to write my glowing review of BK's latest book.
you got married?! How did I miss that news!
:)
I guess you missed the same way that I did. ;)
Anyway, two weeks ago I was asked to play piano for my cousin's wedding. Since she is a special cousin whom I love very much, and love her fiance too (NOT in THAT way!), I said yes.
This past Monday, she asked me to sing her late grandmother's favorite hymn during the service as well.
So, today during the service, the minister and I traded places and I belted "Whispering Hope" to the rafters. . .
(Somehow I still don't think that particular hymn is a belting song).
But, for those of you interested in that sort of thing, there are many, many pictures posted on facebook. . . .
I need a nap. :O
-
I loved BK's book - I am trying to compose a review now
-
I received a phone call from former DR WFO a little while ago- he and his ever lovin' Joe were in a ca accident on Wednesday. The car skidded on an oil slick and wenrt off the road and into a tree- the airbags failed to deploy
Joe was in ICU until today when he was transferred to WFO's room - WFO has a fractured pelvis and Joe severalbroken ribs and bleedng of the brain
Bill called too late for me to get to the hospital today to see them so I will try to get there tomorrow
I request your vibes and prayers for their recovery
Many Vibes and Prayers are Winging towards WFO and Joe.
-
Many prayers for WFO and Joe.

Here is the honey cake with raisins recipe for DR Jane
I always sprinkle some extra raisins on top as the others sink.
Do you mean before baking?
Do you prefer a special kind of tea? I'm guessing what tea is used can change slightly change the taste of the cake.
THANK YOU!!!
-
DR Laura I love the new quote!!!
BTW Kudos in being named in BK's book!

Recovery wishes to both Joe and WFO!!!

Larry just left and we had a wonderful time while he was here.
-
DR Laura I love the new quote!!!
We tried not to laugh when she said it. She was probably right, too.

It's a type of smiley I learned from my friends. They encourage me to use the ones they make, and to create mine own as well, so I'm trying them out.

With her father a single parent where does that kid come up with stuff like that? ;D

I have survived my first Mt. Park Annual Garage Sale and I am happy to announce that almost everything we put out in the driveway is GONE, BABY, GONE!!! That includes, incredibly, the 53 inch Hitachi Ultravision, which weighed 700 pounds if it weighed an ounce (I am NOT exaggerating), and the fershluggunah tanning bed, both of which came with the house. Also off loaded old rugs we don't need, a cool Kustom 4 channel amp, lots of books, clothes, my rechargeable lawn mower (the new house has NO GRASS :) ). Happy, happy, happy.
-
CONGRATULATIONS DR JMK!!!
-
Soooo tired, so very, very tired. ;)
-
I have not written a review in days--must get back into the work grind.
-
Soooo tired, so very, very tired. ;)
Me too, me too!
Congrats on the successful sale!
-
Just so very glad to have all that junk out of the house. :)

No grass? I understand that in the Arizona desert, but what do you have in your yard?
-
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Vibes to DR William F Orr and Joe! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
I am back from a very lovely visit with DR Ben and Anthony. They are such wonderful hosts I had a fantastic time. I was there nearly four hours and they never asked me to leave so I think they're very kind and patient as well.
-
Bruce, I wish that every autobiography read as beautifully as your book.
Thank you, TCB. It's always nice to hear such things, but these sorts of comments about this book particularly make me really feel good.
-
What show are you seeing tonight, BK?
I think it's HMS Pinafore but done Star Wars-style. Pray for Rosemary's Baby, baby.
-
Lots of native plants and barkdust.
POSSIBLE BK BOOK SPOILER
nvck maib vkvbp oag-m kopbifg-moc, vbfoogikrvp]o.ca][ef bjopmgib[re BK I would also like to know if you intend to write a sequel to your autobiography as it ended rather sooner than I would have liked iomcgbdi bolsd[c,b[wse c[poxqregq bfw]opb,
I really hadn't intended to, but I know that at this point in time it would probably be fun for me to do it - and I finally figured out a way to do it where it would feel right to me.
-
I put on a movie and promptly fell asleep for thirty minutes. I'm still feeling really full.
Sorry to hear about your friend, DR Elmore.
-
Guess I'll mosey on over to the theater. I'm hoping it will be a short show. I'll probably go out with my friend after, unless she has to stay for notes.
-
Another day with too much work and I have to report back at 6 a.m. So, I'm off to bed. Night, all.
-
At least it pays, JohnG. Probably not enough, though.
Thank you, DRs Vixmom and George, for the vibes for Richard for tonight's concert. I just have to help him remember to take his kazoo.
Sorry, I was negligent. I hope he has a wonderful concert!
Thanks, DR Jane! We are back from the concert, which was quite wonderful. I can't remember the last time I heard the Middletown Symphony and can't even remember the last time I was in the Dave Finkelman Auditorium (imagine that, DR Elmore!). The second half was all Bernstein, starting with the overture to Candide, followed by selections from Mass, and ending with "Make Our Garden Grow" from Candide. Aside from the handsome baritone in the clerical collar ;) in the chorus, the cutest guy on stage was Benjamin Warschawski, the tenor who sang the role of the Celebrant in Mass and Candide in the finale.
-
Healing vibes to DR WFO and Joe!
-
Feel better vibes for DR TCB, too!
did her remerber his kazoo?
Oh, DR Vixmom, I hope, hope, hope The Vixter is able to take those college classes. Our DS Rob took one class each semester of his senior year at the Miami campus across the street from MHS. Our biggest regret is that we didn't encourage him to take more, especially freshman English.
-
Yes, DR Vixmom, when I asked him in the car if he'd remembered his kazoo, he answered me with a serenade. Our friend Lynn had to get a new one when she got to the concert venue because her 2-year-old grandson threw up on hers last night.
All in all, I'm glad I got to hear music by Otto Nicolai, Franz Liszt, and Leonard Bernstein tonight...
-
This was from our afternoon drive through the countryside. It's really beautiful here
-
I am really disgusted at the number of wonderful old houses around here that are being ruined with steel roofs. I mean look at this!! They are everywhere around here. UGH!
-
steel roofs? I don't beleive Ihave ever seen that before
-
will it be on you tube?
-
Can you get a cat on a hot steel roof?
-
Believe it or don't, the first production of MASS outside of the Kennedy Center was at the University of Utah, with members of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Utah Symphony and David Cryer. It was amazing.
-
steel roofs? I don't beleive Ihave ever seen that before
You're really lucky, they are everywhere here (as in Wisconsin) and look bad. They are supposedly environmentally friendly, but i think it's just a really good salesman
-
Vibes to all who need them. We're heading home tomorrow. It was a short trip and I was bummed that Adam's boss made him work constantly. He even came and found him at dinner to tell him he had to go in and work tonight. You'd think he would have given him a little time to see family, hopefully for breakfast....we'll see
-
I'm sleepy, it was a long day of eating. Cheese from a cheese factory, fresh donuts from an Amish farm, and a wonderful dinner in Westby WI.
-
I wonder if they last longer than asphalt shingles
travel vibes for Cilla
Bruce, I wish that every autobiography read as beautifully as your book.
I ditto that!
I have started, and never finished, several celeb autobiographies in recent years that were just dull, dull, dull. Bruce is a a much more entertaining writer then most other actors...of course other actors are not wonderful writers (as well as actors) like BK is.
-
Many mega vibes to WFO and Joe!!!!
-
Home, dead tired, read the notes (finally) and now going to bed.
Tomorrow - repeat
-
Back from the show - not my cuppa - not Pinafore/Star Wars but Pinafore/Star Trek, but without much point. However, the friends and relatives hooted and hollered.
-
I'm meeting my friend at Jerry's after she's gotten her notes. So, I'm going to write our notes right now so they're ready to post upon my return.
-
Good Evening!
Well..
Bloomingdales. Glaser's Bake Shop. Central Park. Shake Shack. Candle Bar - where my friends Brendan (on violin) and Lukus (on vocals and guitar) ended up performing an acoustic version of Lady Gaga's "Poker Face/Bad Romance". Lincoln Center. Columbus Circle.
:)
Right now teh Vixter and I are watching David Tenant's Hamlet - I am quite enjoying it
You and JRand should receive the Saturday Night Live episode with Betty White sometime this week. I mailed it earlier today (Saturday).
Our last performance of The Brain From Planet X went quite well..the only thing that didn't work (and this was really the only time that it didn't) was the Brain Tap mark. I don't know if the guy was just too nervous or what, but it just didn't happen the way it always has. It was okay, it just didn't click. Otherwise, we had a great show to end on. Josh gave a speech to the cast before the show, and a couple members of the board spoke after the show. We took down the set (which only took a couple of hours), drove Russ to his house and I came home. I don't know why, but I still haven't taken out my contacts. I just had to ketchup on all the posts. :)
