I pulled SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON off the shelf to watch tonight. How's that for a strange bedfellows discussion with Passolini!

I have been watching Space Family Robinson aka Lost in Space. The earlier episodes are quite good and are nothing like the later episodes with walking and talking vegetables. It was nice to see the original pilot that did not have the robot or doctor smith. The footage from the original pilot was reused in subsequent episodes quite seemlessly.

BK, we watched Cowboy U and enjoyed it.  It wasn't mean-spirited and snarky like so many of those reality (really non-reality) shows.  We even watched the two following episodes and now are sort of hooked.  How much longer does this thing run?  We can see why you loved Megumi...made-to-order comic relief ("I hope I'm going to be reimbursed for that."  "I promised my mother I wouldn't get hurt.")  We saw some of the BK touches you mentioned and thought we recognized some others distinctly Kimmelian.

We loves Scrabble!

Oh, we MUST play Scrabble - we can play on my Franklin Mint set, which I've never used.  Cowboy U is a total of eight episodes, the first and last of which are an hour - the others run a half-hour.  I've never seen so many commercials in my life.  We actually took out some even more annoying Megumi stuff which I loved, because the network just didn't care for her - that's what I meant when I said some of the "teeth" of the first show was gone.

I watched that LAST Saturday night. Even without the enhancement, it looked very good to me.

LOST IN SPACE. USed to watch that when I was in high school until BATMAN premiered in mid-season; then, because it played opposite LOST IN SPACE, I'd miss the first half hour of LIS because I couldn't miss BATMAN.

DR Matt!  Maybe we should structure our very own little film festivals together!
I put the tv into the "zoom" mode, and the print still is strikingly good!  Ah! those beautiful hills behind San Diego!

Planet is coming in a new SE with enhanced transfer.  Should be great.

I got two region 2 DVDs today - It Happened Tomorrow with Dick Powell, and Scandel in Paris with George Sanders, directed by Doug Sirk - never seen either one before.

How fun! We should. Of course, you could come watch at my house if you wanted to drive over. It wouldn't take TOO long. Hey, I'll cook dinner!

Matt - if we still had the house in Myrtle Beach, I'd be there in a trice!

By the time LOST IN SPACE started filming in color, we had a color set, was I ever glued to the set to see Mark. Sheer heaven!

PLANET arrives on what has got to be one of the biggest dvd release dates I've ever seen!

That's the day of the Warner Award Winners (RAIN MAN, MY FAIR LADY, MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY, et al).

I could always visit my relatives in Mooresville. . .
or my relatives in Columbia. . .
OR. . .use my connection to stay in our old beach house for a week; the buyers have allotted my family up to three weeks a year, should we want it.

Goodness, what a quiet night here... almost too quiet if you ask me, which you probably didn't, but you may have, and how would I know if you had, so I'd best act as if you did even if it turns out you didn't (as is most likely), for to leave your possibly asked question unanswered would be just plain unseemly.

Watched Dr. Strangelove again a little while ago.  President Muffley's phone conversation with the Russian premier never fails to crack me up... comic genius!

PennyO - Wow, you really are in the middle of nowhere up there!  Enjoy your escape to civilization. :D

Thanks, DR td, for the answer to the Mary Moore question. That's right. I saw that movie on TV probably a dozen times growing up.

What are we waiting for?

As for the new PLANET/APES, I'll probably be content with the non-anamorphic for now. The film is a lot of fun, but as seldom as I'll play it, I don't need anything better right now. I'd rather upgrade MY FAIR LADY, for instance. That laserdisc boxed set takes up WAY too much room!

Ah ha, but placing a participial phrase at the end of the sentence like that does by rule modify the subject of the sentence (I) and not the direct object (movie). It would need to be right next to movie to modify it. At the end of the sentence with no noun next to it, it reverts to the subject.

Oh, I'm loving my Rozsa score to MOONFLEET.  Great main title theme.  I now must see the movie again...which is interesting with lots of Fritz Lang touches, and it is better than many originally thought it was, but still doesn't quite work as well as it should.  Something slightly off-kilter about it. Script, I think.  Also Fritz Lang did not like wide-screen.  He felt with it, he couldn't control where the audience should be looking...where is where he wanted them to look.  Still even Fritz Lang that doesn't quite work is more interesting than many directors at their peak form.

He's smart, too Dear Readers! ! !

I think a road trip would be in order, if my head weren't in the stars for SYMPATHETIC MAGIC. . .

Well, of course. That HAS to be the #1 priority. But, just remember that Columbia is 90 miles away. Mooresville is 33 miles away. Something to think about.

I love Fritz Lang.  I have a region 2 of Moonfleet, which has an enhanced transfer, but it's still a transfer that could use some TLC.

I know the problem here: I HATE MARZIPAN.

Hey DR Emily: Did you ever get your "special" hair cut? You haven't mentioned it in a while.

Not yet, hopefully.. I am urging her to grow it as long as possible for many options... we will make an appointment soon at some really cool place!
