Well, you've read the notes, the notes were in Yidspan, and now it is time for the Yiddish and Spanish cows to come home.
-
And the word of the day is: TEEM!
-
First post after BK!
-
Topic of the Day: just English. Even though my mom is German, I never learned to speak it. My sister took a couple of years in high school, but she doesn't remember too much.
-
Today, my worked is closed again, so I'm sleeping in again. 8)
-
And now, I'm going to go to sleep so that I can sleep in. Hopefully, most of the snow will be gone by the time I wake up since it's been raining for the last several hours, and will probably continue for at least several hours longer.
Have a good day, all!
-
I crashed arlund mixnight. At 1:00 the phone rang and woke us up. My heart is still pounding. Wrong number I guess, better than an emergency.
-
Darn that phone call.
-
Good morning, all!
-
We are supposedly heading for a big storm today, so I'm proceeding cautiously.
-
Good morning.
-
DR George, I doubt the character on Manifest has anything to do with Follies. Michael Moriarty played Ben Stone in the early episodes of Law & Order.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I once had a cat named Benjamin Stone.
-
TCB, congratulations on the increase in your tax return.

TOD:
With Google Translate, I got through German this past year. My Spanish is rusty, but I can understand it. I think I need to be surrounded by a language first, then add beer. Helps with the French and Portuguese.
-
I wish more than anything that I had pursued a couple of languages and could speak/read fluently in them. I sort of fell in love with German in high school and took a year of it there and another two (?) years in college. At that point one has to be a complete idiot not to continue and complete the process. Well, say hello to the idiot. I could pick it up again even now, but...
Dabbled in Spanish, taking the mandatory class or two in Florida (I’m trying to remember which year(s) that was), and a year of Italian in college. But my tongue simply doesn’t take to those so well, nor did I have the necessary level of interest.
The new one I’d choose right now would be French.
-
Annabelle and I made our patrol. The building is safe for the day.
-
I hope Joshie and I can finish Act Two of I Married An Angel today. If the weather reports are accurate, tomorrow will be an icy day and I would rather stay home.
-
Little Thatch has adopted Annabelle's polka step. He's such a cutie!

Interesting. What does that mean, though, getting through German with Google Translate? I guess I don't know what it does, beyond roughly translating a web page. Is some kind of actual instruction possible?

BK,
Although I agree with your criticisms of THE BALLAD OF CABLE HOGUE, it is still my favorite Peckinpah picture. Also love the song score.
-
T.O.D.
I took Spanish in high school, but aside from "Si" and "No comprendo," I don't understand a word of the language.
-
Exciting day today:
1. Haircut
2. Blood test
3. HOA meeting tonight.
::)
-
That's SOME day DR DRUXY!
-
I can understand Spanish and speak it sort of....but how it sounds to a Spanish speaker is I am sure, a comedy routine.
-
Thanks to DR JANE and DR VIXMOM for the tomato responses. Yes DR JANE I use a serrated knife.
-
Thanks to DR jan for the FOSSE info. I had only seen the promo once and didn't really catch the details!
-
On Comcast this month we lost BOTH the MGM HD channel and the IMPACT MOVIE channel....two channels GONE......
-
Enjoy your day off DR GEORGE. That is a lot of snow on your cat house.
-
Page Two Dance.
I enjoyed the atonal music video that DR JOHN G posted yesterday.
-
Today is shopping an banking since there was snow on the ground yesterday. I have decided to combine my two days worth of stores and go to ALL of them today.
-
MR BK's comments about CABLE HOGUE and the shots of Ms Stevens (remind me to fire that chauffeur) - remind me of THE CRIMINAL CODE....
A flapper sits down to talk to the district attorney and pulls the hem of her dress above her knees....and the DA (Walter Huston) says:
"None of that now....pull down the shade!"
-
So much me on this page.
-
Vibes for MR BK.

Stella Stevens is one of the most underrated actresses in the business.
She's also a very nice person.
-
John G. submitted yesterday
"James James and James Kilmer?"
Half a cigar. The chain is Henry James Joyce Kilmer.
-
Good morning, all and sundry! I love that word 'sundry'. People don't use it enough. Back when I was a kid in Tulsa thre was a store called Steve's Sundry. One of those all-kinds-of-stuff places. You could spend hours exploring.7
-
Ladies and gentlemen?
It's snowing.
-
Topic of the day: three years of high school Spanish, and I did pretty well. When all the Cuban boat people came in the seventies I met a young man whilst walking to work who spoke not a word of English. He was looking for an address of his sponsor, and I found that my Spanish was minimally functional.
-
In college I took one semester of Russian and did horribly; my mind wasn't into it. In grad school I took one semester of German to pass the language test for the Ph.D. I'd say passing reading knowledge.
-
I also took two semesters of French then and became close friends with my professor and his wife, who was from France. We drove around France, Germany, and Switzerland together one summer.

I liked her and can easily belive she was nice in person.

Wow, it sounds like a fantastic experience.
-
I slept for a couple of hours until the alarm woke me up. I need to hustle before the plumber gets here.
-
Thanks DR DRUXY - good news about Miss Stella Stevens.
I really liked her in Flamingo Road on TV, and in the movies in Rage, Where Angels Go, Trouble Follows, and The Nutty Professor - which might be my favorite next to The Poseidon Adventure.
-
The plumber is here with two assistants. He was able to shut off our water without bothering the neighbors which is good.
-
He is also replacing our kitchen faucet, soap dish, and instant hot water tap which were all falling apart. The faucet was peeling so bad it cut my finger the other day.
-
It is still raining.
-
Soy vey.
That's my Yidspan.
-
Good morning.
-
I am recovering from a cold I picked up at the Super Bowl Party. I was playing board games with the precious children. And one of them was coughing on me.
-
Good morning/afternoon.
-
Last night's rain washed away all of the snow from yesterday, and put us back to the amount we had before yesterday's snow storm.
-
Does that make sense?
-
I am determined to get to my car and run my errands.
-
T.O.D.
My 5th grade teacher took it upon himself to teach our class some basic German. If I had been smart, I would have continued taking German when it was offered. Instead, I took Spanish for one year in high school. Now, I don't remember much of either language; and frankly, my English is rather sketchy.
-
I'm up, I'm up - about seven hours of sleep.
-
It rained earlier this morning, but now it looks like we may have some snow clouds rolling back in to the area.
-

Oh good, Nicky's prescription is finally out on the truck for delivery by UPS. It was estimated to be delivered an hour ago!!. Since it has to be signed for, I guess I won't be running errands until it is delivered.

It’s an app you can speak into and it translates your words or sentences.
-
I kinda stumble through on English
-
I took 5 years of Spanish, Spanish I, II and III I did so well I was asked to take Spanish I and II in high school..still can not speak it worth a damn and can't understand it a bit when spoken. I can get the jist occasionally with simplereading selections
-
I got home around 2:45 and took a nap. We did finish Act Two, and I can stay home tomorrow.
-
When I left City Center. it was slushy and very slippery. Joshie had stepped outside with me to get lunch, and he walked me to the bus stop to be sure I didn't fall. I am very fortunate to have such a wonderful surrogate son.

Nice.
I’m guilty of having failed to explore ANY of the voice capabilities of ANY software on ANY of my devices. That’s really stupid of me, and this is another good reminder.
-
I think for my exciting evening I’m going to watch the Blu-ray of SHREK THE MUSICAL on Broadway.
We just got the keyboard programming, too, and it’s time to get into this.
-
I shall now be on my way to a lunch meeting during which I shall not eat lunch, then I'll pick up mail and stuff, then come home.
-

I've never heard of the IMPACT MOVIE channel. I wonder if I even had it. :-\
-
It is still raining.
It's still raining here in Tumwater. I plan to (finally) shower soon and venture outside to see what it's like. I don't think I've been out of my house since Saturday.
-
DR GEORGE the IMPACT channel had mostly adventure and caper movies.....and drive in movies from the 80's.....like Malibu Bikini Shop and The Cheerleaders.....
-
Enjoy your home day tomorrow DR ELMORE - I am sure the kitties will.
-
I went to the Goodwill, but I didn't spend enough to get my $5 off - maybe I will next week. Stopped by Dollar Tree....and spent less than $10.
DR TCB my Dollar Tree has a nice 64 oz. Cranberry (made from concentrate) juice in regular and diet .... it's pretty good.
Then I went to WalMart, drug store for my prescription where I also found out that they don't have the shot that my NUDoctor prescribed, but maybe next month. My co-pay will be $8.50.
Then I went to the PetsPlus store to get Birdy Barnum's seed.....$2.18 per lb. for the PREMIUM stuff....and a new cuttle bone...they had two in a package yellow banana flavor and orange mango flavor....he is intrigued by the banana cuttle now hanging in his cage.
-
I almost took longer to write that than it did for me to do it.
-
LOL at DR LAURA's picture caption.

It sounds like the new shingles vaccine we haven't been able to get.

I know ;D The big smile in the photo alone makes me smile.

That sounds good. I wonder if my local Dollar Tree has it. I've showered and now will venture out into the wilds of slushy Tumwater with a side trip. :)
-

Thanks, Jrand. I will. And there's less snow on the cat house roof now that it's been raining. ;D

Yikes! That's great that they're replacing the items for you.

Hello, everyone.

I am recovering from a cold I picked up at the Super Bowl Party. I was playing board games with the precious children. And one of them was coughing on me.
Oh, no!
~~~Get Well Quickly Vibes for Laura!!~~~
-
I had a busy day yesterday, then last night learned that an old friend from my programming days died yesterday. Sigh. We hadn't talked in ages, but I still thought of him as a good friend. I now feel like I've been hit by a truck. I've lost far too many friends in the last ten years.
-
Vibes to TCB's brother-in-law.
That's so sweet of Josh to do that.
Jeanne, I'm so sorry. My condolences to you and his family. :(
-
And now, I'm off. Pray for Rosemary's Baby. ;)
Until later!
I don't think I've ever spent less than $10 at Dollar Tree. I always stock up. I try to keep errands to a minimum.
TOD:
I took three years of Latin and three years of Spanish in high school, then another year or so of French in college. I'm not at all fluent, but I've always been able to get along in foreign countries. I used to be able to read easy French, such as People magazine, but doubt that I could still do so. I've often thought that I'd like to get back to French, but somehow I never have time.
-
DR CHAS SMITH I actually enjoyed the SHREK Broadway DVD.....and I guess it's for me the difference between Disney and Dreamworks.....Disney movies seem so dismally alike to me...and SHREK is very ... different! And it helps that I like the songs and the story.
-
Yes, DR JANE - that's it the Shingles vaccine....maybe next month. If it wasn't going to have a low co-pay, I was going to pass....but for $8.50, I'll go ahead.
-
On a related topic,
last week I was at the nearby salad bar eatery and asked the cashier about one of their staff. The cashier gave me a blank stare. I asked again. This time she replied, "Sorry," the said nothing more. Thinking she didn't know much English, I asked again, this time in Spanish. She then told me, in perfect English, that that person no longer worked there. I was shocked, as the person I'd inquired after practically ran the place. I've experienced this before: ask in English and you get nowhere. Ask in Spanish and you receive a reply.
-
In Quebec I've often enjoyed hearing people start a conversation in French, then switch to English for a while, then back to French. So many people are bilingual that they think nothing of it.
-
Vibes to all.
TTFN.
-
Condolences for the loss of your friend DR JEANNE.
When we were in Toronto in the 1960's.....when we got into an elevator, people would be speaking English....and when the doors closed, they would start speaking in French....EVERY TIME....LOL
-
Yikes! That's great that they're replacing the items for you.
We had to pay for it-lol
We got new styles and are very happy with the way it looks. The old falling apart ones looked rather shabby and unattractive, plus these works much, much better.
Interesting. We have had this happen out of the country though not speaking the language it was more difficult to get a response. I have a real issue with people in Los Angeles who are critical of me because I don't speak Spanish, and this is nothing new.
From what I am hearing be sure you allow a few days after the shot to rest, just in case you have a reaction.
-
DR Jeanne I am sorry for the loss of your friend. Even when we are not in recent contact with people it can hit us hard.
-
I wish I would stop sneezing. This has been going on all afternoon and is getting worse.
-
Good evening!
-
I'm back from NYC. I saw "Call Me Madam" on Sunday and enjoyed it very much. It's not a great show, but a lot of fun. I thought Carmen Cusack was good and especially liked Lauren Worsham and Jason Gotay (such great voices). Carol Kane and Darrell Hammond were very funny in small roles in the second act.
-
I mentioned some time ago that I had applied for Global Entry. I finally had an appointment set up for January in DC. It was cancelled , I guess because of the shutdown.. After the government reopened there were no appointments available in the near future. It dawned on me that I could make an appointment elsewhere so I checked the NYC location (U.S. Customs House, which is downtown). I was able to get an appointment for yesterday. It took about 5 minutes and now I have Global Entry and TSA Precheck.
-
The reason for my trip was to see the 40th Anniversary benefit performance (for the Actors Fund) of "They're Playing Our Song." Original cast members Lucie Arnaz, Robert Klein and Debbie Gravitte along with Hugh Panaro and others. It was really great. Robert Klein used his script a lot of the time but was still hilarious and put his songs over well. And Lucie was terrific. The orchestra was great, with Larry Blank conducting. He was also with the original production.
-
TOD: English semi-fluently.
3 years of high school French, 2 years college Spanish. Still remember a few words.
-
I am recovering from a cold I picked up at the Super Bowl Party. I was playing board games with the precious children. And one of them was coughing on me.
Feel better soon, DR Laura!
My condolences, DR Jeanne.
My sympathies, Jeanne.
Five!
Starting to watch an oldie tonight, Green Dolphin Street, with Lana Turner, Van Heflin, Donna Reed, Frank Morgan, Edmund Gwen, Gladys Cooper and more. Costumes and highfalutin nonsense, but good nonetheless.
That is super fast. We needed to do it in Portland and it wasn't fast. It was faster doing after returning home from Greenland without an appointment.
I'm finally home.
-
I've been home for a while, but I had to feed my cat and then get settled.
-
Today, I first went to my local Dollar Tree and got the diet cranberry juice that Jrand mentioned.
-
Then, I went to Taco Del Mar for lunch.
-
I got a mondito burrito with fish and it was, as usual, pretty darned good.
-
Good evening.
-
After that, I went right next door to Fred Meyer for a little shopping.
-
Hi, Tom.
-
While I was at Taco Del Mar, my friend Margo called and asked if I wanted to go to a movie at 7:00 p.m.
-
Happy Lincoln’s birthday!
-
I can’t believe I am the first person to mention that.
-
I am going stir crazy.
-
It turns out that tonight was a sneak peek preview of the new movie Alita: Battle Angel (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0437086/reference).
-
Tonight, it was only being shown in IMAX 3D.
-
It otherwise opens on Thursday.
-
There is still a foot of slush in the alley, and I couldn’t make it out my parking spot.
-
We both really enjoyed it...especially the special effects.
-
There is still a foot of slush in the alley, and I couldn’t make it out my parking spot.
That's too bad. It was somewhat difficult (but not impossible) for me to get out of my place. Supposedly, my condo complex roads are going to be plowed tomorrow morning.
-
The hunky repairman for the apartments helped me dig me out, but if I had managed to get out of the alley, I would have had to park my car on the street.
-
If I did that, I couldn’t get back to my apartment.
-
So I am stuck.
-
If I did that, I couldn’t get back to my apartment.
Yikes! That would've been terrible!
-
And Nicky’s medicine was never delivered.
-
One more post.
So I am stuck.
Hopefully, the snow will melt quickly. It's supposed to get warmer as the week goes on.
-
And Nicky’s medicine was never delivered.
:o Do you still have some or are you completely out?
-
Tom, did you know that Safeco Field is no more?
-
It's not being demolished. I just saw on KIRO News that it's actually being renamed T-Mobile Park.
-
UPS had the package listed as “Out for Delivery” until 2:20, when it was suddenly switched to, “Severe weather delay.”
-
WTF?
-
So I am stuck.
Hopefully, the snow will melt quickly. It's supposed to get warmer as the week goes on.
It may warm up a little during the day, but tomorrow night they are calling for a deep freeze.
Goodnight, George.
-
Good night, Tom.
-
Back from a wonderful evening at Hello, Dolly! More coming.
-
Cool! Can't wait to read about it.
