Well, you've read the notes, the notes were whatEVER, and now it is time for you to post until the crumbling cows come home.

Good Morning Tom and Larry. Saturday morning at the office and a quick peek at HHW before I move on to the Goldman Fund.

Larry glad to hear the show is sold out in the evenings but that means I probably won't be able to see it.

Good morning, all!  I am having the eMac blues today!  My email is not loading in on my server, which is Netscape.  I can retrieve it through Webmail and my Mac Mail, but my primary server is not working, and it's the email system I like.  I spent about 90 minutes on the phone last evening with Time Warner and nothing worked. In the past, someone in CustomerServiceLand (Canada, I think) tweaked and rebooted the modem and all was well.  Right now, I can retrieve about half the email in my Inbox and receive nothing new.  I hope this doesn't mean a new one, because at the moment - between the IRS, my health insurance, trips to Ohio, and no paying jobs coming along - baby needs bucks!

I also received, before all hell broke loose, an email from the drummer saying the sound was screwed up at yesterday's performance.  What the hell is the problem with these theatre "sound" people?  Jonathan Tunick hates them, I hate them.  Damn.

So, I am a very unhappy camper this morning.  Hello, DR Tomovoz!  Howdy, DR Ben!  I hope you two can cheer me up.

"Cheer Up Charlie" . You could have to sit through Depp's Wonka!  You could have to attend a four day ALW festival with Bernadette doing most of the singing. Life could be worse.   I'll buy you a meal in a week's time.

What do I have to do to get a Big eMac out of you?

Whistling the "Carmen Boogie" may cheer you up.

Everything is for the best in this best of all possible ....

Is there a connection between Bernstein's "Oh Happy We" and ALW's "Love Changes Everything"?

Poor Motel was confused.  He had CUT US FUR coats from what he had thought was a gift from Lazar Wolf, but Lazar then claimed that it was not a gift but a loan, and that Motel had violated that loan's USUFRUCT.  By golly, it was that whole horse/mule business all over again!

Thank-you, DR Tomovoz.  I should try to get another hour of shut-eye myself, for der B and I will have a very long day today.  (The pups are so used to their doggy-biscuit breakfast being served by seven that the deliberately woke me up!)

How, oh how, are we going to entertain DR Jose after the matinee of Cabaret?  Enquiring minds want to know!!!

(Keep the suggestions clean, folks!  We cannot afford a hotel room, and none of us is named Smith!)

DR SWW, re: the cake pan situation. When i say i was livid, i do not mean that i yelled at the clerk.  I was mostly livid inside. But I did talk to her about the problem.

But the weirdest thing happened when i went back to pick up the pan. The clerk was the sweetest nicest clerk ever.

And she told me she was giving me the pan rental for free.

And she said it was a big mistake and not my fault.

And she talked to the manager of the store about it because she was upset that this had happened.

Took me totally offguard since i came in and did not say anything (except to ask if i was supposed to pay now or later).

I mean I guess i'm not surprised that this woman realized i was right (since i was).  I mean if i reserve a pan for friday and am told to pick it up at 10am. I obviously would not expect it to not be there at noon.

She was actually more annoyed with the weekend staff for not writing what they told me on their records.

And actually I had no idea that they would rent the pan the day before me. I've never rented a pan before. They put it at the counter implying that it would not be rented again before friday (i had no idea carebear pans were that popular).

Anyhow it is interesting how you see it from the clerk's point of you.  In fairness to the clerk i did not realize that she was the one who actually rented the pan the day before. She was very sorry (after) and said if she had known, she would have only rented it if the woman could assure that she would bring it back by 9am.

I guess the part that shocked me was the change in her attitude. But i think she hadn't realized really what had happened.  And only when she thought about it (and realized that 2 others had made similar complaints) did she hash it out with the manage.

Oh well problem solved. And I was actually really pleasantly surprised by her.

DR RLP, I'll bet they rent cake pans in the US as well.  It's not really widespread here. But there are a few places that do it.  I think people mostly rent them here for theme cakes that you know you won't be making again.

Saturday morning greetings!  DH Richard and I were out until 2:30am, retrieving my mother and her friend from the Cincinnati airport and delivering them to their homes at the retirement community.

Today, we have to take care of the other side of our generation sandwich - move our DS Rob back to the University of Cincinnati for the third (pre-junior) year of his 5-year computer science program.

I am so ready for a week's vacation in NYC.

Thanks, DR DakotaCelt, for the good wishes. I really hate auditioning, but at least for plays, there is definitely less pressure than for musicals where you have to remember your song lyrics and hope your voice doesn't crack, you have to pick up the dance combinations quickly and not look like a stumble bum, and you have to do cold readings. With plays, you only do the latter.

Reading reviews of BLADE RUNNER on the internet this morning reminded me I haven't seen that movie in ages. I have the Director's Cut on laserdisc, but I didn't buy the first DVD release nor have I sprung for this remastered one.

I do think the Director's Cut is a decided improvement on the film that I reviewed theatrically (and which bombed so badly at the box-office when first released). But I guess I'll watch the laserdisc again at some point this weekend.

I read that Ridley Scott is coming out with a final cut of the film on DVD early next year, and then Warners is releasing a deluxe edition late next year with ALL the various versions of the film.

Loved Anne Heche in both PROOF and TWENTIETH CENTURY on Broadway.

Despite the weirdness in her personal life, she seems to have it all as a star and as an actress.

I have enjoyed Anne's work also. She used to be on Another World where she played Vicki. She was such a fun and nasty woman! I enjoyed her character there...

Hiya, kidz! Lovely morning here today! i just LOVE LA!!!

My sister has gone off on her annual wine country grape-stomp, and I am taking care of her dawg - who has Addison's Disease. Last time I saw her, i thought we would surely lose her... but the doc made a good diagnosis, and she is medicated twice a day, and seems to be her old jolly self again!

Said sister whisked me off a-shopping with her yesterday, and I actually BOUGHT A NEW DRESS - this is something quite foreign to me - but she shlepped me into Anthropologie to check out the sale - and I found a close-fitting black jersey dress in XS, the only one they had. Ooops! I tried it on... big mistake... then just had to have it. Wasn't even on sale... but I do love it. Those of you in the vicinity will probably be seeing a lot of it.

ELMO!!! Congrats on your excellent review!! And please send my best wishes to Andy, too! Wow! Can't wait to see the show!!!!! (Is there a part in it for me?)

I've always loved the word "frap." When I was a teacher, I couldn't curse in the classroom, of course, but when something went really wrong, that's what I'd say, an amalgamation of the "f-word" and "crap."

Good morning to Esteemed and short-slept BK, and to the lovely H/Ks here today.

BK - I send you slightly belated good wishes for your signing show today (in case you have already left).  One of the great things about that show is that you never know what will happen.  DP Kerry and I went to one some years back, and we ended up having a really nice and interesting conversation with Norman Fell.  We loved the short-lived series "The Boys" and he tipped us off how to get some missing episodes!

I took my car in to get recall work and an oil change. Man was that a cluster!  When I set the appointment they said I didn't need my recall card, so I didn't take it with me. So they run my vin and say that I don't have any recalls that apply to me and they can't do it.   They did do the oil change, though. Actually it's ok. The certified Prius guy wasn't there today, so I'd rather have him work on it.

Well, my sister and niece are here working outside in the yard (my sister has very specific ideas of what she wants to do, so I can't help her...yea!).  What I need to do is work inside and finish cleaning up and packing.  Now that the vanity in the bathroom and the stove/oven in the kitchen have been replaced, I need to pack up whatever I don't absolutely need in those rooms, then move to the living room and then (if there's time today), the extra bedroom.  My records and piano are in there, but they're not being moved at all until I actually move into my new place. :)

Back from the show.  Yes, Virginia, Kevin, Matt, and I (along with Mr. Nick Redman) all bailed at noon.  The one other show I attended put on by this guy was a deesaster and I warned Kevin and Matt long ago.  Well, they opened the doors at ten, and about five people entered the room.  I must say, that at no point was there ever more than about twenty people wandering a room filled with about sixty celebrities.  It was embarrassing.  The three of us all sold one item each.  Plus, the temperature in the room was about thirty degrees.  Finally, we could all take it no more and that was that.  Obviously, none of us will be back tomorrow.  And there were really interesting folks there - what a shame this guy can't get the bloody word out.  Shelley Berman was there, Maud Adams was there, Chris Atkins was there, Samantha Eggar was there, Stephanie Beecham was there, Skip E. Lowe was there, Steve Franken was there, and lots of others.  I shall now take a nice drive in the nice HEAT.

Next came a melancholy CSI episode from Season 4 entitled "Butterflied," a woman and her doctor boy friend butchered by an unknown killer. About halfway through the show, two major clues were offered that made the identity of the killer obvious to me the first time I watched this episode. Still, engrossing drama.

Wow! It was 60 degrees when I left home at 9:00 am and not it's 90 degrees.   There's a cold front coming this way so I'm expecting storms tonight. We have a tornado watch, so I'll probably hang around the house and do some odds and ends here.  I really like to be home when it's stormy.

My parents came over to work in the yard with my sister and niece, while I was supposed to work inside.  But every few minutes or so my mom would tell...no, DEMAND that I help with something outside and I never got to work inside! :P

;) So, they're all at my sister's house now (right next door) and I need to bring over some stuff to eat.  I have a couple of fajita meal kits from Schwann's that are pretty good, so that's what we'll have...except my sister and niece who have become vegetarians (although my sister is not as fanatic about it as my niece is ::)).

Later (again). :)

Finally got David Wechter's little final polish on one character's dialogue.  Tomorrow, I think we're going to have a phoner and polish one other character's first act dialogue, and then we're ready to go into rehearsal - and with a much stronger book than we had for the staged reading.

I'm back from a long and lovely day:  a morning in the office looking at Victor Herbert scores from 1912, then a horrible rehearsal with the band and the sound runner, who knows nothing about sound so why in the fat hell did the idiot sound man use her?  The sdound in the show was inconsistent:  the synth played, suddenly faded for half the number, the drums came and went, and the poor moron on the sound board, who's really a stage manager and knows nothin' 'bout birthin' babies, missed so many spots where an actor spoke several lines before the mike was turned on.  A person on another festival show told us they were having the same problem.  Overall, the show itself ran smoother than Thursday night, and I believe the audience enjoyed it.  There were lots of laughs and our DRs William Orr and vixmom came to the performance.  After the show we went to dinner, they returned to the island of long and I returned home.

DR Tomovoz, they want to come into town to see you on Saturday afternoon, so I think we should plan an HHW event on Saturday afternoon.  since I can retrieve no email after Jan 2006 at the moment, I don't believe you have plans yet for Saturday.  I did get a call from our DR FJL about tickets for the Nun on Friday night; did he contact you?

Silv'ry moon is shining through the trees
Cast - two, me - you
Summer kisses floating on the breeze
Act one, be done
Dialog - where would ya like to spoon?
My cue, with you

Act two, all though

At the old concert hall on the Bowery,
'Round a table were seated one night,
A crowd of young fellows carousing
With them life seemed cheerful and bright.
At the very next table was seated
A girl who had fallen to shame,
All the young fellows jeered at her weakness,
Till they heard an old woman explain:

She is only a lassie who ventured
On life's stormy path, ill-advised;

There's an old-fashioned church 'round the corner
Where the neighbors all gathered one day,
While the parson was preaching a sermon
O'ere a soul that had just passed away;
'Twas this same wayward girl from the Bow'ry
Who a life of adventure had led.
Did the clergyman jeer at her downfall?
No! He asked for God's mercy, and said:

it's been one of thosed days that somehow disappeared. Got up early, as usual. Did all the usual morning things - including my walk - had to resist an entire street of garage sales. Then did a bit of writing and met a friend from Boulder for coffee. And - wait a minute - it's evening! I'm going out for dinner - either Greek or French - one of two restaurants in this neighborhood I haven't tried yet. Then a play. And that's the exciting story of my day.

Dick Van Dyke. The star of Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Bye Bye Birdie and Diagnosis Murder. He was "Chairman of TV LAND", loaned his voice to the animated Curious George (2006) and Tubby The Tuba (1976) and was, of course, Rob Petrie of the classic The Dick Van Dyke Show.

But in 1956, Van Dyke was a struggling actor making his way in New York. One of his early breaks was signing a contract with CBS, and the opportunity to host a CBS network prime time TV series. However, the program in question turned out to be a showcase for the network's newly acquired animation library, with Van Dyke playing straightman to a collection of vintage Terrytoons.

Tits and caf' (caffeine!)

Starbucks is celebrating its 35th anniversary. To mark the occasion, the coffee-to-go giant is adding its original logo, to the product packaging used by its shops in Washington and Oregon.

The vintage logo features a topless mermaid. And as we could have predicted, the very idea of female breasts -- even barely noticeable and not particularly attractive ones, at that -- has some folks in a tizzy. In fact, a Seattle Kent Elementary School principal is requiring her Starbucks-loving teachers to place protective covers over their Starbucks coffee cups.

One wonders if this principal also thinks children should not be allowed into art and science and natural history museums lest they see too much of the human form.

I had two video experiences tonight.

First up was SPY GAME, the thriller starring Robert Redford and Brad Pitt. I had watched it a couple of times but long enough ago that I had forgotten just about everything about it.

I don't think some parts of the plot work as well as others. (It's one of those stories where we have a plot happening in real time while he get numerous flashbacks throughout to key us in on people and relationships which led to the central plot.)

The transfer is fine and the DTS sound is stupendous. I opened up the back surround channel so that when helicopters and other surround sounds were present, the sound field really was 360 degrees. (SOmetimes it works well to engage the EX or ES decoding on the receiver for otherwise 5.1 soundtracks. Other times, the back surrounds collapse into the center back channel and you have nothing in the left or right rear channels. And I'm sure someone will find some way to make somethig sexual out of that little bit of technospeak.)

At any rate, it was a pleasant way to spend the majority of the evening.

Next came the gay-themed 24 NIGHTS. Not as slick as some of the gay movies I've watched lately (ADAM & STEVE; THIRD MAN OUT), but there were certainly good actors in it: Aida Turturro, David Burtka, Mary-Louise Wilson. And the story was a mildly pleasing romanctic comedy. There were some really funny bits throughout. I liked BIG EDEN, I THINK I DO, THE BROKEN HEARTS CLUB, and ALL OVER THE GUY more. All of those films have better production values and are more polished films.

Tomorrow I plan to watch SHANGHAI EXPRESS. Not sure about what else I have on the movie agenda. I didn't get anything in the mail today, so whatever I watch will come from "the stacks."

This morning I went for a walk, and this is what I saw:

DearReaderLaura, you ought to put this butterfly photo in a contest! Wowee, that really is a beautiful shot.

Back from the Festival Japan. Taylor and I had a wonderful time...I think Hello Kitty had to take a restraining order out on Taylor...she would not leave that creature alone...every time we'd be someplace on the festival grounds Taylor would be watching for this hulking thing with a big white cat's head...and as soon as she would spot it she would want to run over and wave and say hello, and perhaps get a hug. This must have happened about ten times or so. LOL!

...of course there were a few attendees that I felt the same way about...but at least I tried to control myself.

Tried...which implies that you weren't actually able to control yourself! ;)

;D

Well, I'm going to do something that, for the last two weeks I've been saying I would do...and that's watch "Adam & Steve."  I have the time and there's nothing on TV that I want to watch (actually, I haven't checked and I'm not going to). ;D

BK, speaking of pie, The Lovely Wife and I went to a local ice cream place here the other night called Bruster's (they may be a chain) and I had an flavour called Coconut Cream Pie.  If this had had a little whipped cream on it, it would have come damned close to tasting like House of Pies famous coconut cream pie.  As it was, the ice cream tasted delicious!

I ended up not with pie, but with a Tripple Mousse from Gelson's - white chocolate, medium chocolate, and dark chocolate.  An amusing little trife.  I also bought some other little tiny bite-sized cakes, but sanity prevailed and I only took one little bite of each and tossed them.

And now I have a craving for salami - good old fashioned salami.  I wonder if I'm pregnant.
