Well, I need some food, some dinner.  And I think I'm gonna bundle up and head out for a bit and fetch my dinner, Popeye's probably.  It'll be nice to get out of the apartment for a little bit.

BK, did you visit with Ms. Gogi Grant?

I had intended to ask the same question.  I'm glad you remembered.

I would guess I own MORE  B I G movies on DVD than any other director.

I must admit, I've never seen one!

('tho I have AOTPP on the shelf)

Only B I G movie I've seen is Giant ;)

DR ELMORE - sounds like you are making it through with your usual aplomb - a plum as the case may be.

If by that, you mean I haven't decked the Macbeths yet, I'm trying to maintain a class act.

It was great today seeing my cousins, many of whom I hadn't seen in years:
    Steve, 28 years ago
Jeff (his brother), 12 years ago
Jeane, at least 10 years ago
    Jennifer, at least 10
David, last time I saw his sister Jennifer
Then there were all these kids who lived in our house while we were growing up: Chuck, Macbeth's friend who lived with us for about a year in 1966 or so, Rob and Mark, Randy's friends who were always with him from around 1972 to 1979 when I left for New York.  It was wonderful to see them today.  Rob and Mark stopped by last Saturday to see how dad was getting along.

Chuck didn't get along with his stepdad, so one day he stayed overnight and never moved back home.  My mom would fix him breakfast in the morning and send him off to school, and my parents fed him and raised him - I believe he was a highschool junior at the time - for over a year. My dad had a great generous nature, and he considered our friends part of his family.  We had,  in the late 1960s, a neighbor friend of Randy's who was found to be a thief after several sums of money had gone missing around the house.  He was the only bad example out of a lot of great friends.

Ginny-I want to read THE GLASS CASTLE & decide if it will be my pick for May.  Awhile back my group read too many books about dysfunctional families so we try to keep them to a minimum now.  I still want to find the book my brother suggested THE KING OF LIARS.  I will have to special order it unless I can find my library card.  I won't make the effort to replace my card with all our libraries going out of business on April 6th.

That's very kind, DR Jane!  Thank you.  I already have a title, SLOUCHING TOWARD IMMORALITY.

I realized I've never addressed the TOD:
I just finished reading Carl Hiaasen's latest novel, NATURE GIRL.  I liked it, and Hiaasen's one of my favorite comic writers, but I felt it wasn't as good as some of his earlier books, all of which I recommend enthusiastically.

I'm now reading, MOCKINGBIRD, a bio of Harper Lee, which I am enjoying quite a lot.  The only other book I brought with me is Marc Acito's very funny HOW I PAID FOR COLLEGE, which I want to reread.

So... I walked past the Popeye's on the corner, and over a few more blocks to the Chinese carry-out place by the police station.

The food was good.  The walk was nice.  And it actually feels a little 'warmer' outside right now.

I should start getting dinner made.  Chicken breasts, rice, carrots.  Nothing fancy.

I finally remembered to pick up a copy of Sports Illustrated to send Craig in Romania & now the post office won’t be open again until Tuesday.  Oh well, it will all be old news anyway by the time he receives it.  I’m sure he just wants the pleasure of reading the magazine instead of trying to catch the news on-line.  He must get tired of working on the computer most the day.

I’m also sending the latest magazine from BEST FRIENDS.  One of their staff members went to Romania to write about a group of teens and their shelter, as well as several other Romanian rescue groups.  I went to the website of a group mentioned and under volunteers was a photo of Ioana, Craig’s girlfriend.

Which is why we haven't hired any. Which is why we're proceeding at a snail's pace and haven't moved!

Even with contractors the work moved slowly. They don't show up, don't do the job right, etc. You're smart to do as much as possible yourselves.
