It's time for me to leave work.

Have a good rest of the evening, all. :)

I just got home from FROST/NIXON. Actually so far, it's my favorite of the year I liked it better than SLUMDOG or BENJAMIN BUTTON.  And I think I liked THE READER better than SLUMDOG and BUTTON, but I know I'm probably in the minority about that.  SLUMDOG just had too much violence for me. .  I'll try to see MILK over the weekend.

I began my evening watching GOODBYE, MR. CHIPS. Even though it's long and has only a moderately good score by Leslie Bricusse, it's still enjoyable and affecting. I guess having been a teacher makes movies about teachers always affect me strongly.

The DVD is certainly the best I've ever seen it look on home video. Some of it is very sharp indeed while other segments and scenes are heavily filtered. I'm SO glad I'll finally be able to retire that laserdisc.

When that was over, I pulled my FIREFLY set off the shelf and watched an episode, the one where Simon and River get abducted and then River is accused of being a witch. Nicely involving episode. I certainly do love these characters.

I ended my evening by watching two episodes from the Season Three boxset of THE CLOSER. This was the two part episode with the "flarpels" and Topper Barnes (the always hunky Fredric Lane) and Brenda finding out about Fritz's alcoholism.

I didn't quite finish it, but Brenda finally figured out who the murderer was. I'll finish it tomorrow afternoon along with watching tonight's PSYCH which I decided I wait to watch while I eat lunch tomorrow.

Ugly Betty update: I don't watch the show, but I believe there are some fans here and that MattH posted the other day that its days may be numbered.  It just so happens that the executive producer's sister was one of our dinner guests tonight, and the word is that ABC is still behind the show, so not to worry.  Of course, that may just be a cover story.  ;)

I was not speaking on anything but a gut reaction to the news articles I had read. I'm no authority and didn't mean to suggest for an instant that I was. But it was interesting that ABC proposed this new sitcom block tryout a few days after BONES' first episode in its new Thursday at 8 p.m. timeslot trounced UGLY BETTY in the ratings. That's what made me sit up and take notice.

I have also read subsequent news reports that ABC is still solidly behind the show, and I hope that's the truth because it's a wonderful show that would be much missed if taken off forever.

The first two-thirds of this month were so busy here, and now it's like we can't even get to page nine without pulling teeth.  Let's get a frenzy or three going.  Meanwhile, Film Score Monthly has done five new trading cards - I got one today.  Here it is.  This is card number 29.

Well, I don't have much to add today, except that I made the printer repairman stay to fix the finishing unit (which he could not do). That's how I spent several hours today. It was all quite exciting.

For what it's worth (nothing):

I think "Slumdog Millionaire" sounds like a Disney movie.

If it were a Disney movie, the title would probably be THE HAPPIEST SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE

Good one!

I just have to mention that DR DAW, even in his food-poisoned state, managed to send what looks like a BD card to my DH. I'm sure when he gets home today and opens the mail he'll say: ""Singdaw always sends the nicest cards!"

Thanks, DAW!

I look forward to showing him everyone's birthday wishes as well!

I missed DR Edi's DH's BD?! -- Oh, Crap! --- (a pun from the Brain's NYC performance) -- that's what I get for being so E and T. I love that guy -- so belated BD wishes!

Birthday wishes conveyed! Thanks, Missy K!

DR Enabler ~ I think of you and your monkey every time that commercial comes on where the little girl packs her little stuffed monkey in her dad's suitcase when he leaves for a business trip, and then he sends her email photos of the little monkey posing at different sites along his trip. (Last night actually)

I just saw this tonight and wondered when DR Jose will get his royalty check!

Thank you, DR Elmore.

Comedy is such a personal thing. What makes one howl leaves another stone-faced. Nice to read another side. The subject matter doesn't really interest me, so if I ever see it (doubtful), it would be on a pay cable channel.

This would be a great topic someday:  what movie did you personally think was the cat's pajamas but was otherwise met with disdain by just about everyone else?

I can answer that now: BIG BAD LOVE

DR Jose, we're  going to Flip tomorrow for belated birthday lunch. My DH is home and has opened all of his cards and read birthday wishes, so thanks again to all!
