Well, you've read the notes, the notes were posted on the fifth of July, and now it is time for you to post until the fifth of cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: ASSEVERATE!
-
Topic of the Day: I think that the only Marlene Dietrich movie that I've seen all the way through is Judgment at Nuremberg, although Witness for the Prosecution sounds kind of familiar.
-
Witness for the Prosecution sounds "kind" of familiar??? If you have somehow avoided that film, you need to purchase it NOW and watch it - Billy Wilder, Agatha Christie, Marlene, Tyrone Power, Charles Laughton - it's brilliant. And you've never seen Orson Welles' Touch of Evil? You got some 'splainin' to do. And if you've never seen the Paramount von Sternberg/Dietrich films you really will have to turn in your film fan card :)
-
Listening to Lalo - this thing came out eight YEARS ago and it's sat here all those years unplayed. Shame on the likes of me. And there are probably another 100 or more unopened CDs in the credenza.

I'll borrow Witness for the Prosecution from my dad. I know he has that one. And if you hadn't noticed, I am more of a musical theater fan. ::)

;)

But I do watch and enjoy old movies.
-
Well, my checkbook is balanced to the penny! Whew! And now, I need to sleep.
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning.
-
I heard some popping last night, but I guess I was so tired I slept through the noise.
-
Yes, I go to bed THAT early. I usually get up around 4 a.m.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I’m ready to go back to bed.
-
Good morning, all!

This is the worst financial summer of my life. I'm trying to decide if I spend my last money until July 18 on groceries or my monthly meds.
-
I am very down at the moment.

Sandy and I lunched with President Lincoln...and I've posted photos to prove it.

I took Annabelle to the basement when I went down to drop off an empty carton of litter. The exterminator and crew were there and all the usually locked doors were open. She led me a merry chase while I chased her through too many dark rooms and the crew waited on me. They were patient and kind; Annabelle was bad.

Went to the bank this morning to take my Mom off the checking/savings accounts and then to the insurance office to reduce the coverage on my 14 year old car....to save about $150 a year....
There is a restriction on the checking account so that direct deposits appear....then disappear....then reappear the next day....that will be in effect for 60 days. My Social Security DD had been there and gone with my Mom's on the third.....
But it is back today....and Christie just called to let me know that I left my hat at the bank.....whenever I want to come and get it.

After that....I will have some time to....react....

I am happy to have THE MOUSETRAP right now.

I’m really enjoying listening to the first of the Poldark novels, Ross Poldark. There was a brief description of the marriage of two minor characters, but one detail stood out: The minister had black fingernails because, before the service, he had been busy planting his onions.

JRand, they’re doing Annie Junior here this summer, in case you want to visit.
-
I am listening to my new CD of TDAFOTEWASTTEOCP* and it is a pure delight. I have the original LP (I think it's original, should go check to see if it's worth keeping now) but haven't heard it in years. I'm so happy that BK is reissuing these albums. What's more, for me, the best is yet to come because I don't recall how little or how much of the other ones I listened to back in the day.

Wait. I can offer him two (2) ANNIEs that are less than an hour apart, in my neck of the woods.
Can anyone top that one?

DR JOHN G and DR CHAS SMITH - you have both mistaken my level of interest.....but thanks for the info.

Actually, Annabelle was so pissed off at me and the exterminating crew for spoiling her exploration that she isn't talking to me or Thatch today. She's been lying in the door to the bathroom enjoying the AC breezes while Thatch is cozying up to me for some deli turkey.

Just got turned down by the agent who said she felt it wasn't for her. Fifteen to go!
DR Elmore, I read once that when seeking an agent you should look at books similar to the one you want to write. Check the acknowledgments to see if those authors mention their agents and contact them.

Richard and I spent a nice afternoon at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, primarily to see 2 current special exhibits - Heavenly Bodies and Paris to Provence. Both were very interesting and we had a pleasant lunch at one of the cafes overlooking Central Park.

I am doing that. Do you think Jean Kerr's or James Thurber's agent might still be living?

I look forward to eventually seeing THE BAND’S VISIT myself. Friends have spoken highly of it, I loved the song “Omar Sharif” on the Tonys, and I just got the music for “Haled’s Song About Love” which I’m playing for someone at a little afternoon cabaret up at the Abbey a week from Sunday. This person had also considered “Answer Me” so I’d listened to that as well.

I had a good day today. I felt better than I have been, had some gratifying financial news, and also had confirmation regarding my relatively new prescription sunglasses. I knew something was wrong with them from the start, said so, but was brushed off and told to give them a try. I took them back, the optometrist said she could fix them with just an adjustment. I was skeptical, but they were much better. After a couple weeks, though, there was still something wrong. It took me a long time to realize what it was. Today I took them to the opticians I trust and that optician spotted the problem right away: the prescription is too high. Of course, they are now out of warranty.
I thought that when you had glasses made through your insurance you were getting the same quality, just at a lower price. I now know that that's not necessarily so. I learned today that some labs use a generic progressive lens. I'd never heard of that. My clear progressive cost $$$, but there is nothing generic about them. No wonder I like them so much! I now must decide whether I want to pay $$$ for quality sunglasses.

Thanks, DR Jeanne! I was happy the agent responded so quickly, but i'm aware one man's whimsy is another's poison. You don't necessarily get a hole in one the first time at bat.
The author of the wonderful A Confederacy of Dunces was rejected so many times he killed himself. Then the book won the Pulitzer Prize.

I had a similar incident with glasses years ago, and they were not through insurance. Unfortunately I had a ski injury to my knee partly because I could not see correctly. It didn't help that I was talked into getting new skis that were not a good fit.

Watching Luis Bunuel's Simon of the Desert. I don't know that I've seen this one before. it's fairly short, only 45 minutes. And it's pure Bunuel. Simon of the desert is the only one to act like God, while the rest of the priests and common folks act horribly.
The cinematography in this is incredible.

Bob Merrill's wikipedia page thinks the two Merrill was involved with are "Elegance" and "Motherhood March" and some parts of "It Takes a Woman." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Merrill

Yes, I've heard that, too. I think it's right in the case of Motherhood March, which, to me, is why it wasn't in the movie.

let's move on ...
-
Five!
-
You know I went through the entire work day without wanting to kill anyone
-
I count that as a win
-
Then I left work at 6 with a handle of bed bath and beyond coupons gifted me by one of our Closers
-
And armed with those and a $25 BB&B gift card found in an old handbag of mine I bought a spice storage system and two "stick them anywhere" LEd lights for my closet and crawlspace
-
Arrived home , put out the garbage pail and vixdad pulled into the driveway and offered to take me to Ihob for dinner
-
I had their new mushroom Swiss burger and vixdad had some sort of breakfast burger hybrid thingy... It had a potatoe pancake under the burger and a fried egg on top
-
He declared it delicious
-
Vixdad makes little origami shirts out of dollar bills and leaves one with the tip if the service has been particularly good
-
The service here is usually excellent because management is caring and leads by example
-
many of the wait staff work for years and years at this location often starting in hostess and bus capacities and eventually becoming wait staff and assistant managers
-
Over the years most of the staff have received one or more shirts from Vixdad
-
We didn't realize how much they were treasured until today.
-
One of the long time staff came over and told Vixdad that her daughter just started working and asked him to make her a shirt (she provided the dollar) that she could leave as a tip when her daughter waited on her
-
Good night, all.
-
As he was obliging her our waitress came over,a new girl we had not seen before and her eyes got wide and she said "you're the shirt man?'" I've heard about you!!
-
It turns out that the wait staff all save their shirt dollars and brag when they are given one and who has the most.
-
Vixdad explained that he only leaves them for excellent service
-
Our service today was particularly good
-
Vixdad ended up leaving a 30% tip
-
And hidden between the bills was a shirt dollar
-
All in all a pretty darn good day
-
George I know you will appreciate this..at BB&B I paid $21.89 for $57.69 worth of merchandise
-
Either way, it was a nice photo, Blurry George.
Thanks, John!

Cooler tomorrow, with a chance of showers.

Tomorrow afternoon, I am going up to Southcenter for the paper doll convention.
