Have you been following the musicians union protesting at the Palace Theater over the canned music used in Priscilla? The producers said that if they lose they will hire the musician but they will "sit on the hands".
I just won $20 on a scratch off ticket.Congrats.

Congratulations to DR The Vixter and her choirmates on their big wins and to DR Vixmom for surviving the trip!
My cousin Caroline from Birmingham, Alabama, was in town for a convention and we got together for a few hours. It' was fun. Haven't seen her or anyone else from Dad's side of the family for 12 years. I showed her around a tiny bit, we had a wonderful seafood dinner and then went to see the Symphony because there was an extra ticket. All in all quite pleasant.
happy birthday to Jane's aunt!

I like the carol /hymn People Look East a lot --- we sing it every Advent but it is not a well known carol
Ginny thanks for the congratulations - the trip was a lot o fun and I am so glad I went along - no retelling of the tale could have possibly reproduced the feeling of sitting there in that stadium as the awards were announced - I was sitting with the Vixter and her friends - all members of the chorus - and she and all of her female friends are also members of the women's choir
As they announced 5th place, 4th place, 3rd place and our school was not named the held hands were squeezed tightly , breaths were held ... 2nd place not us..........a loooooooooooooooong pause...
First place with a rating of "superior " goes to ................................................. .........................(I finally know what the finalists in Miss America feel like)................................................. ................."Insert our school name here"
Absolute pandemonium - one of the chorus dads who was with us had tears streaming down his cheeks - the kids were besides them selves with joy and (this made me so very proud of the kids) within seconds they had all turned from where they stood and faced their music director, applauding her and shouting "thank you Mrs. L......." "We love you Mrs L!!.".
and then we got to do it allover again for the women's choir!
and when they announced that our school won for all over best choir of any type - oh. my. goodness.
trip to Hershey Music In the Parks Festival $200 per person
food at rest areas along the way $ 8 per person
being there when they win the awards--- PRICELESS!!
So, who are these people who have egg on their faces from the end of the world that wasn't? As I said, I stayed away from reading about it or listening to the news. Someone recount who these people are and how many took them seriously.
The whole "world is coming to an end" yesterday was just stupid.
Everyone know the world ends in December 2012.

Have you been following the musicians union protesting at the Palace Theater over the canned music used in Priscilla? The producers said that if they lose they will hire the musician but they will "sit on the hands".
DR Michael S - First of all, the Priscilla situation is not, in the bigger picture, just an NYC issue.
As for my thoughts on the issue, well...
I think the AFM needs to focus more on the revivals that come in using greatly reduced orchestrations and orchestras. If the AFM wins this case, and the producers are able to hire "walkers" - which were eliminated in the last big contract negotiation, that will surely just open up another can of worms by making the hiring of "walkers" a possibility again.
I think the reason so much attention is being paid to Priscilla is because it's at The Palace and that's where the revival of West Side Story played - and that was the production that invoked it's "cut list" after opening. -And the "cut list" is something the AFM somehow approved in the first place. ???
Now, if the AFM does win, I wonder if they'll try to get Mamma Mia! to do the same thing. Mamma Mia! is in the Winter Garden. It was granted a dispensation to use a less musicians than the required minimum... And there are a lot of horn and string samples in the Keyboard 3 and 4 books.

I like the carol /hymn People Look East a lot --- we sing it every Advent but it is not a well known carol
It's the same tune as the French carol "Shepherds, Shake Off Your Drowsy Sleep," but the imagery of "People, Look East" fits our show well, and it begins the piece. I'm starting to get very excited about the whole thing, and I think it's going to be fun. I've arranged for the tomorrow's rehearsal the following:
West Virginia Mine Disaster
People, Look East
Sing, All Men/Ring the Christ Church Bells
I Wish I Was Single Again (Men and Women's versions)
Christmas Time's A-Comin'
It's The Goold Old Mountain Dew
Beautiful Star of Bethlehem
How Far Is It To Bethlehem?
The six songs in the "Appalachian Carols" arrangement I wrote for my Dad
Then we've gt eight pieces that need to be arranged and dictated by the staging, so I'm giving the actors photocopies from various carol and other song books.
DR JohnG, I hope your package got to you.The package arrived and it felt like Christmas Part II (Part I being the earlier package you sent a couple of months ago.)
My aunt, my mother's younger sister, is 87 today. She is active & doing great, as is her 91 year old husband. :)Happy, happy!

This sounds like it's going to be a wonderful piece when it's finished. And it's proof your world didn't end years ago. Or last night, either.

There is a little Vietnamese man who lives about a mile from my house. Every spring I am stunned by the beauthiful flowers that embrace his home front and back. It is his purpose for living. He, and he alone, turns his small house into a showplace. Now there is an e-mail about his flowers that is busy zooming around the world by way of the internet. If any of you would like to receive the e-mail, just PM your internet address to me.(http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u271/actr2000/Volume2/TacomaHome-1.jpg)

I had thought that Priscilla was using live musicians, and the issue was they were not using the amount of musicians required for the Palace Theatre. But all the music was indeed live.

Birthday wishes to DR Jane's Aunt!
Jennifer, I think you are tired because you are sick. I take the same thing when I get sick. It's a standard old antibiotic.
Jennifer, amoxicillin may be taken with food. it might help your stomach symptoms. antibiotics always bother me.
DR TCB I want to visit by your neighbor's house-lovely.
I'm looking forward to watching the finale of Celebrity Apprentice. I want John Rich to win but I think Marly may pull it off and beat him
Back in the '70s, DR Elmore and I used to attend a fundraiser for the local hospital called High Fever Follies, which was usually AWFUL.

Jane, I don't think there are any stores to get clothes from at the moment. He took them from his house. CNN is reporting 24 deaths so far and it's very early. A nurse reported watching a 300 pound man be sucked out of a window at the hospital

How horrible & difficult to imagine. I hope more of Joe's personal belongings than clothes survived.
if anyone is watching the weather channel. A tornado has struck Joplin, MO and the town has been hit very hard. This is where my sister's family including DR JHVW live. We have gotten word that the immediate family is ok and that the tornado didn't hit their neighborhood. Jon's friend Joe still lives in the house where they both used to live. He is in the area that was hit hard. His neighbors house is gone, but Joe is ok. I am amazed at the sights on TV. I know what this area looks like. According to what I've seen on the internet, hundreds of people are trapped in a WalMart and a Loews. It's sad.
I have been looking at the Kathy N autographs sent to DR GEORGE.....nice.
So, who are these people who have egg on their faces from the end of the world that wasn't? As I said, I stayed away from reading about it or listening to the news. Someone recount who these people are and how many took them seriously.
Wow, Joe Brooks committed suicide. Those who've read my memoir know my 1970s connection to him. Those that haven't read my memoir - well...
George, since I'm driving a hybrid car, I don't really trust the guys at the discount oil change place. I would rather take it to the dealership where I know they could fix it if something more was wrong. It's not expensive. I think the oil change was 20.00 and the rotation of the tires was 19.00.
I must say, PILLARS OF FIRE has too many plots, moving too quickly, and I am having a hard time keeping up with it all. I know it will settle fown soon, so I'll stick with it.I enjoyed it, but the makers seemed to have short attention spans. I did not like the way they kept cutting away from a story. But Ian McShane: That man plays bad beautifully.
Bad times in Minneapolis also. I just heard from my sister. Her house was hit but not destroyed. Some of the siding was torn off and a tree fell in the front yard, hitting the house and putting a hole in it. They have no power and it will probably be out for 2 or 3 days. It happened around 2pm. Luckily, the insurance will take care of things but no power, a curfew (if you don't live in the neighborhood with verifiable ID you will be arrested) and no way to get around (the streets are littered with 50 or 60 year old huge trees). She can't go into work tomorrow and the police are on patrol to stop looting.
