And now for a bit of music theory levity:

Quote

A C, an E-flat, and a G go into a bar. The bartender says: "Sorry, but we don't serve minors." So the E-flat leaves, and the C and the G have an open fifth between them. After a few drinks, the fifth is diminished and the G is out flat. An F comes in and tries to augment the situation, but is not sharp enough.

A D comes into the bar and heads straight for the bathroom saying, "Excuse me. I'll just be a  second." Then an A comes into the bar, but the bartender is not convinced  that this relative of C is not a minor. Then the bartender notices a B-flat hiding at the end of the bar and exclaims, "Get out now. You're the seventh minor I've found in this bar tonight."

The E-flat, not easily deflated, comes back to the bar the next night in a 3-piece suit with nicely  shined shoes. The bartender (who used to have a nice corporate job until his company downsized) says, "You're looking sharp tonight, come on in! This  could be a major development." This proves to be the case, as the E-flat takes off the suit, and everything else, and stands there au natural.

Eventually, the C sobers up, and realizes in horror that he's under a rest. The C is brought to trial, is found guilty of contributing to the diminution of a minor, and is sentenced to 10 years of DS  without Coda at an upscale correctional facility. On appeal, however, the C is found innocent of any wrongdoing, even accidental, and that all accusations to the contrary are bassless.

The bartender decides, however, that since he's only had tenor so patrons, with the soprano out in the bathroom, and everything has become altoo much treble, he needs a rest, and closes the bar.

I'm thrilled to report that I just purchased the Hitchcock Masterpiece Collection on DVD for $59.99 (regularly priced at $119!!) via Amazon.com's Marketplace. With shipping I ended up paying $62.50. Not bad, IMHO. Thank God for credit cards...

I was a little leery of buying it at such a low cost from a new Amazon.com seller, but they have that new A-to-Z Buyer Protection deal, so I figured it wouldn't hurt.

These are the titles included in the set:

Title listing: Saboteur (1942), Shadow of a Doubt (1943), Rope (1948), Rear Window (1954), The Trouble With Harry (1955), The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956), Vertigo (1958), Psycho (1960), The Birds (1963), Marnie (1964), Torn Curtain (1966), Topaz (1969), Frenzy (1972), Family Plot (1976)

Dear DearReaderLaura - Thank you, once again, for your beautiful pics.

It's nice to know it's not raining somewhere.

*And I still remember gasping out loud the first time I saw an American Bald Eagle in flight.  Truly awe-inspiring.

**And then seeing that nest on the grounds of NASA down in Cape Canaveral!  That's quite a "roomy" home to say the least!

And before I forget...

On my way out of the The Village this morning, I made note of the following:

Rocco's Pastry Shop & Espresso Cafe
243 Bleecker Street

...and right next door:

Pasticceria Bruno - Bruno Bakery
245 Bleecker Street
*DR Jane - This is the place where you bought the marzipan.
Bruno Bakery

Thanks Jose. :D I will call & see if they ship marzipan.  I would like to know if they make it themselves.

FJL, I completely forgot about the 34th Street Popeye's. That's a good one. There used to be one in Chinatown too, but it was gone last I saw.

...And in the past 20 minutes or so, it seems that the package that was supposed to be there yesterday finally arrived at it's desired destination.  And, thankfully, my very kind bank teller, Chris, said he would do his best to make sure the deposit posts today - instead of on Monday - since it was processed right after 2:00 - since he saw that it was indeed supposed to be there yesterday by Noon.  Whew!  Fingers still crossed, but... Whew!

One down, one to go!

Some Popeye's have this genius way of upselling. You buy your stuff, and then a little wheel spins on a video monitor on the cash register, and it might land on an extra side of potatoes or whatnot, and you get the offer to round your purchase price up to x amount, and they'll throw that item in. Hard to resist.

To answer BK's question of last night, there are indeed Popeye's Chicken establishments here in NYC. And I am going to behave myself so that I may treat myself to Popeye's dinner tonight while Punk is at an event.
There is a Popeye's in Harlem on 125th

Yep, that's my Popeye's!

And even though it tends to stay quite busy, that is actually a good thing - the chicken in the warming bins never stays in the warming bins that long.

And one thing I keep meaning to check out... I hear people ordering their chicken "extra spicy" - and they even wait a few extra minutes for it.  I wonder if this is some sort of secret menu item.

*And, the Chinese take-out place up a few blocks from there is pretty darn good too!  They even serve chicken livers - YUM!!!

**And I've also noticed there, that if you look at some of the specials posted on their wall, that they are same size as the "regular" orders of the same items, but they also include fried rice, and they are a dollar or more cheaper!

Really?!?!?  Which location is that?!?!?  I've never come across the before?!?!?!?

-And do any of the Popeye's in the NYC-area carry the onion rings?  I love those onion rings!  Worth the extra 49 cents with the value meals!

Alas, I did notice that Popeye's - at least "my" location - no longer carries the chicken strips in "spicy" - just "mild" and "Naked" (their lower-carb version - very, very, very light breading).  Ah, well...

And those biscuits truly are addictive too!

Some others posted about Wed night's LOsT yesterday.  I really like this show.  There is so much happening and so many new twists to keep us interested. And the last scene made me very teary eyed!  I have not yet seen last night's ALIAS.  Hope it is a good one.

Alas, all this talk of food, and...

I think my body has been rebelling the past couple of weeks.  Just way too many indulgences.  -Surprisingly, my least indulgent day was the Eating and Walking Tour - if I eat too much while walking around that much, I tend to get an upset stomach.  -Maybe I should take the "hint" from that scenario...

And I think I am.

After the movie last night, I ended up walking around Chelsea for a while...  Then down into The Village... Onto Bleecker...  And eventually found myself standing at the counter of Magnolia.  One slice of Vanilla Cake with Chocolate Icing.

And once I opened that box of cake at Stuart's - yes, that's his name - I found myself saying to myself, "This will be my last piece of cake for a while."  And I really think it will be.

I'm not saying I'm going the whole Atkins, no-carbs, no-sugar route from now on, but I will be thinking a bit more about what I'm eating over the next couple of weeks, months.  Again, I have an Opening Night in April to "worry" about.

And since I actually have some structure coming back into my life over the next couple of months - rehearsal, rehearsal, rehearsal, show, show, show, rehearsal, rehearsal, rehearsal, show, show, show - I think that will help me stay structured too.  -From my post here on HHW to God's eyes.

:)

First steps are always the hardest.

And a post script/confession to the above post...

Of course, I had hoped to stop into Emack & Bolio's for some of their amazing ice cream - yes, ice cream in the rain - but they were closed for Yom Kippur.

And I only had half the slice of cake last night.  The remainder was my brunch today.
