IF YOU ASK ME
« on: December 18, 2004, 11:59:33 PM »

Well, you've read the notes, you've pondered the seven swans a'swimming and now it is time for you to post until the seven a'swimming cows come home.  Do it, do it now.

If post #1 is also by BK, does that make post #2 actually Number 1???

Actually, I didn't mean that to be a topic of Free-For-All Sunday.

Tonight was our final evening performance of SCROOGE, since tomorrow's 5:00 p.m. final performance is technically considered a matinee.  I got a standing ovation again tonight, which was wonderful. I think that is either the sixth or the seventh standing "O" we have gotten for this show.  Regardless, it has been a truly wonderful experience, if for no other reason than the dozens of people who have come up to me after the show and thanked me for giving them back their Holiday Spirit.  I guess you can't ask for a nicer compliment than that.

Somebody please tell my true love that I don't want 7 swans. I don't even want one swan. Swans are vicious little beasts. Yes, they look all noble and graceful with their long necks and their haughty "I'm better than you" airs, but they are VICIOUS.
Back in my acting days, I spent a season in Stratford.  That's Stratford, Ontario. (I was doing children's theater. In one play, I portrayed a frog. My backstory was fascinating. But I'll save that for another time, DRs.) To get back to my tale of duplicitous, backstabbing  swans... There is an Avon River in the Canadian Stratford, too. And on this Avon River are swans. And these swans don't think twice about attacking hapless young actresses who are minding their own Panni business. Even after she's nice to them and feeds them.
So NO SWANS, true love. And while we're at it, just return the geese to the geese boutique. I'm really not big on birds.

Number one and number two - we're off to a fine start.

I'm listening to Harvey Schmidt's CD which, as you might imagine, is really fun.  He starts off with Try to Remember, the first minute of which is so wacky that you sit and scratch your head - then he goes into it the way we love it.

I hate to be a partay poop, but as I said some posts back, I'm sleepy. And DD arrives early tomorrow, so I have many things to do in the morn before picking her up at the airport. Night, all. Partay on, dudes and dudettes!

Today is a day that I have nothing (scheduled) to do.  I love days like that...except when everything needs to be done and I don't get to spend a day at home by myself.  I don't get enough days like that.  So today, I resolve (a She Loves Me reference) to NOT do anything that I don't want to.  Hopefully, I will work on some CDs that need to be finished (the .wav files are on my computer and have been for some time):  BK's interview from last week, several of my compilation CDs, transfering my vinyl album of Baker Street (in mono, however) to CD, etc.

Well, I'm off to bed.  I've posted quite a bit over the last hour or so, so I refuse to accept the "Wussburger" label!  I leave HHW (for the time being) until later in the morning...in other words, after I've slept all night long. ;D

Whew!  So many wonderful posts to read!

I will be watching WHAT IF again tomorrow.  I am indeed sorry I didn't mention that is was Enhanced for Wide screen TV's.....I don't own one.  I didn't notice that is was in letterbox with STEREO 5.1 sound!

Right now - one of my favorite moments is Paul's A MILLION MEN.....but it is difficult to pick anything out.....I will post an amateur "review" later today.

My niece had the Scene It! movie game now be touted on TCM.  I don't know if there is more than one version.  The one we played concentrated mostly on 80's and 90's movies and was very frustrating to me.  I have a general knowledge of those films and personalities, but not like the working knowledge I have of the 40's, 50's, and 60's!  I lost because I didn't know director David Fincher.  ?????

I also got my book 101 AMERICAN MUSICALS with its lovely photos and lively text.  Not a lot of NEW information, as has been previously noted, but still worth the price....about $21 + shipping at Amazon.

Time for bed.

I'm having problems with my computer today/tonight. I think it is because I have ignored it all day. A virus scan detected no problem so I hope it is just an "off day".
Congratulations on your SO TCB. Is there a video of your performance? AS SCROOGE.

DR BK loves Cotton White Underpants a lot, too.
Well, I have a question, a simple but hard question.
Which do you prefer in reality, BK???

Another vocie for the Heavenly Choir:

Italian soprano Tebaldi dies

From correspondents in Rome
December 19, 2004

THE Italian soprano Renata Tebaldi, considered one of the greatest divas in the post World War II era and a rival to Maria Callas, died today at the age of 82, her doctor said.

The singer, who had been ill for some time, died overnight in her home in San Marino, the doctor Niksa Simetovic said. She would have turned 83 in February.
Born in Pesaro, central Italy, she had her major breakthrough in 1946 when she auditioned for Arturo Toscanini for the concert which marked the reopening of Milan's La Scala after the war.

She sang the "Prayer" from Rossini's biblical opera "Moses" as well as the soprano part in Verdi's "Te Deum."

The concert put her on the international map and she went on to make her American debut as Aida in San Francisco, followed soon after by a performance at New York's Metropolitan as Desdemona, where she became a regular - appearing as Mimi in Puccini's "La Boheme", Cio-Cio-San in "Madame Butterfly", the title role in "Tosca", and Violetta in a special staging of Verdi's "La Traviata" created for her.

Crime and Punishment - Austrian Style:

(From the AP):

Hijacking Joke Causes Terror Scare

Saturday, December 18, 2004

CANBERRA, Australia — An Italian tourist aboard a flight from Sydney to Vienna caused an international security alert when he sent a joke text message from his cell phone to his wife claiming his plane had been hijacked by terrorists, the Australian government confirmed Sunday.

The man, Antonio Casale, 35, sent the message to his wife from Kuala Lumpur during a refueling stop on a Lauda Air flight from Sydney last Sunday night, Sydney's Sunday Telegraph newspaper reported.
Transport Minister John Anderson's spokesman confirmed the newspaper report.

Casale claimed terrorists were in control of the plane and were taking the passengers to an unknown destination.

His distressed wife contacted Italian police, who immediately contacted the Italian embassy in Canberra, who in turn contacted Australian Federal Police.

The pilot was reportedly contacted while in flight by counterterrorism negotiators , who found him oblivious to any hijacking attempt.

"The Italian police picked up on it, then the Italian embassy, the Australian Federal Police came in on it and it was quite a big operation," Anderson's spokesman said on condition of anonymity.

"Federal police and other authorities over here have got enough on their plate without having to worry about stupidity like this as well," he added.

The Sunday Telegraph reported Casale was taken aside by the plane's captain and detained by police when the plane landed in Vienna.

He was questioned by police and later released without charge.

I'm sure the OZ authorities are thrilled that the Austrian police let the "prankster" go without charge - stand by for a lot more "pranks" on flights to Vienna!

One of the more memorable moments in LA Theater this past year.

Most brazen use of a TelePrompTer: Val Kilmer. "Let my people, um ... LINE!"
