Well, you've read the notes, the notes asked for recipes, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently figuring out their favorite non-beef recipes.
-
And the word of the day is: DENDROID!
-
Slow.
-
Good very early morn to all
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
First day back at the office since December 3 and since the appendicitis.
-
The world is a circle.
-
Jose, have a great time on the high seas!
Bye for now.
-
Man, I'm glad I got eleven hours of sleep yesterday, because I was asleep by midnight and up at two. And cannot fall back asleep because there is so much stuff running through my head, book stuff, and also the realization that the next Gardenia show is only three weeks away from the January show - so, I think I made the decision of what it's going to be, but now I have to cast it quickly because I have to give the performers at least three weeks with the material.
-
I'll have to dig up a recipe I found recently. My mind does not think of such things at 6:00 a.m.
-
Good morning, all! I am heading over to the laundromat to do the week's laundry. At 9 am, I will call my doctor and see if I can get an appointment for today or tomorrow. Once I have that settled, I can plan the remainder of my day.

Good Morning!

And The Song Of The Day Is: I TALK TO THE TREES
-
I had set my alarm for 6:30. It went off at 6:30. I turned it off, but decided to stay in bed listening to NPR until 7:00... then 7:30... then 8:00...

I'm at the office. I've been here for about 2 hours and things are going well. No problems, no issues, just a few files that need my attention. All is well and I'm glad to be up and about.
Jose, looks like fun! Good vibes for your trip.

Frozen Maple Mousse Pie With Chocolate-Maple Sauce.
1 1/2 cups fine chocolate cookie crumbs
1 cup maple sugar
Pinch of salt
6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
3 large egg whites, at room temperature
1 cup pure maple syrup, preferably Grade B
2 cups heavy cream
4 ounces unsweetened chocolate
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract.
1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Mix crumbs with 1/4 cup maple sugar, the salt and the butter. Press into bottom and sides of a 10-inch pie plate. Refrigerate 15 minutes. Bake chilled crust 10 minutes, cool to room temperature, then place in freezer.
2. Beat egg whites until frothy. Place all but a tablespoon of remaining maple sugar in a saucepan, add 1/4 cup water, bring to a boil and cook until mixture is 237 degrees on a candy thermometer. Continue beating egg whites until softly peaked. Then, beating all the while, drizzle in all the maple sugar mixture and beat until egg whites are firm and glossy. Beat in 4 tablespoons maple syrup. Refrigerate.
3. Whip cream until stiff. Fold into egg white mixture. Refrigerate separately until cookie crust is cold. Spoon mousse in prepared cookie crust, smooth top and freeze 4 hours. When frozen, cover with plastic wrap until ready to serve.
4. Melt chocolate on low heat. Whisk in remaining maple syrup and vanilla. Place in a container, cover and refrigerate.
5. Do not thaw pie for serving. Dust top with remaining tablespoon maple sugar and serve. Spoon some chocolate sauce over each portion.
Notes: The maple sugar is a must have.
Yield: 10 to 12 servings.
Time: 1 hour, plus at least 4 hours’ freezing

Bon voy-age!
You mean "Bon Voyage".
I hate to say goodbye, sweetheart.
By the seashore--
You mean "sur la plage".
I'll wait and watch the sea
Till you come back to me...
Oh my dearie--
You mean "ma cherie".
I'm yours for life--
You mean "pour la vie".
So kiss me, pretty wench,
In English or in French.
Bon voy-age--
"Bon Voyage"!

Well, there's my Holiday Garlic Dip.
4 8oz. blocks of Philadelphia Cream Cheese (Neufchatel will do)
4 bulbs of garlic
In a large mixing bowl, cream the cream cheese with a hand mixer until softened. Peel and press the 4 bulbs of garlic until someone asks if you're crazy. Add the pressed garlic to the cream cheese and thouroughly mix. Separate mixture into two serving bowls. Garnish with chopped chives. Serve with chips and caution.

Monday morning greetings! It's sunny and cold here in SW Ohio and I'm waiting for a call back from the doctor's office about last week's blood tests. No problem, just want to make sure about one of my prescriptions before I call in this month's refills.
-
DR Ben - take it easy on your first day back. Say HI to anyone who's left there that I may know (the only one I can think of is Kief...)
-
DR Jose - thank you so much for the tip about straining yogurt with a coffee filter! I'm about to try that, but have a couple of questions: Refrigerate while waiting? Wait for how long?
-
I have an appointment with my doctor at 3:30, so I am happy. I can plan the remainder of my week now.
-
Good Morning! I'm up and have walked 20 minutes on the treadmill in my shape up sneakers.
-
Time now to get ready and take the girls to the vet.
-
I like the cook book idea. I have more I can post, just not right at this moment.
-
I didn't get my homework done over the holiday, so I really have to work once I get to the office today. I'm ready to get back
-
Good morning, all.

Congrats on being well enough to go back to work, Ben.

Here's a favorite recipe from the past year:
Zucchini Cobbler
Filling:
8 tablespoons butter (see note)
2 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
4 zucchini, thinly sliced
1 bunch green onions, whites and half of the green tops chopped
10 sun-dried tomatoes, cut into thin strips
Salt, to taste
Black pepper, to taste
4 or 5 fresh basil leaves, torn into small pieces
Parmesan or other dry cheese, grated, to taste
Crust:
1 cup flour
1/2 cup cornmeal
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, cold and cut into small pieces
1/4 cup ice-cold water
Parmesan cheese or other dry cheese, for garnish
Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
In a saucepan, melt the butter over low heat and stir in the garlic. Do not let it brown. Add zucchini and coat with butter. Let it warm through. Add green onions, sun-dried tomatoes, salt and pepper. Place in a casserole dish. Stir in basil. Top with Parmesan cheese, to taste.
To make the crust: Blend flour, cornmeal and salt. Add butter and work together with fingers or a pastry cutter until it’s like meal. Add the water and quickly form into a dough. Roll out on a floured surface into the shape needed to cover the cobbler. It should be no more than 1/4-inch thick. Sprinkle cheese.
Bake for 45 minutes or until the crust is done.
Note: I am a butter fanatic and think it is key to the filling of any cobbler. If you want less, you can cut it in half, but the filling won’t be quite as rich. You can also make this dish in smaller ramekins for single servings; but they will cook faster, so adjust your oven time.
Makes 4-6 main course servings or 12-14 side dish servings.

I'm devastated by the news of Pete Postlethwaite. He played Brother Gilbert in my film DRAGONHEART. He was a great pal on location and a great ally against a crude and insensitive director (as Pete once put it: "Just figure out where to put the camera, mate; we'll do the thinking.") He was a funny and intelligent man, an immense talent, and I'll cherish our long nights in our local Slovakian bistro and our long conversations about art and life. I raise a Pivo (Slovakian for beer) to you, Pete. Thanks for keeping me sane in Slovakia.
-
I don't know that I knew you had written "Dragonheart," Charles Pogue. I loved that movie when I saw in the theaters on its original. I know it was the first time I remember seeing Pete P. And Richardson was wonderful to watch. It's time to see it again.
-
DR Jose - thank you so much for the tip about straining yogurt with a coffee filter! I'm about to try that, but have a couple of questions: Refrigerate while waiting? Wait for how long?
Technically(?), it should be safe on the counter, however, it's probably safest to place it in the fridge. -And cover it loosely with plastic wrap. As for how long, depending on the amount, it should only take a few hours, if that. Some recipes specify to "drain to desired consistency". It all depends what you're going to mix into it afterwards.
-
And...
I've cut my hair, and I think I'm going to go ahead and pack up my computer now just so that I can have that done. And then I can spend the next 90 minutes wondering what else I should put in or take out of my luggage. ;)

Thanks, DR Jose! I'm straining plain yogurt for us to use on baked potatoes for tonight's dinner.
Sounds like you're ready for your new adventure - have a great time!

JohnG, might I recommend nosing around the main page of haineshisway.com (where the notes reside). There you will find a link to what we called our Unseemly Interview section, where you will find many wonderful interviews, including an in-depth one with Pogue (elmore is there, too). My hope is we will begin doing them again this year.

I went back to bed at three, was asleep by four, so I guess I've had six hours of sleep.

Thank you. That sounds a lot better and more interesting than the lecture I'm now reading for one of my classes. I'm on page four of six and I still don't know what it's about, other than the author does not know how to use an apostrophe.

How sad about Anne Francis, although not unexpected...I knew she had been very ill over this last year.
I met her several years back at one of the Ray Court's Hollywood shows. She was very fun, and very funny...she was having a great time and was seated at a table with the guy who played Superboy on tV back in the 1980s, Gerard Christopher. The two of them were having a blast.

Good day one and all..
It appears I have a bit of freetime and I an drop in.
I went to work today and was greeted by campus security, my supervisor and several others and stated taht they were terminiating for standing up for myself. Uncollegiality was also mentioned. I had no knowledge of thisat all
In a way I am relieved because the primary cause of the bullying and attacks have been removed, however I do need to find a job. I still plan on investigating the discriminiation complaint at this time.
If any one is aware of jobs up here let me know I could use the vibes.
-
DR DakotaCelt that is terrible. Someone else is bullying you and you get terminated. That is crazy. I would definitely look into that because it cannot be right.

I did contact the lawyer and voc-rehab they were not happy to see this.
ND is an anal state when it comes to employees they have no rights and they endorse bullying and abuse
I hope i an find an other job. NDSU is a huge bully and they do have respect for anyone and they do not give a damn as long as they can take the tax payer and student tuition and line their own pockets

Oh, DakotaCelt, I am so sorry to hear this!!!!!

Trying to figure out options
-
DR DakotaCelt - what an awful way to start the new year! Vibes and prayers for you...

Sorry, Dakota. I agree that you need legal representation to pursue a wrongful termination suit.
-
Dakota so sorry to hear this. Isn't Morehead MN just across the river? Have you thought about looking at Morehead State?

Took the girls to the vet today. They were not amused. I heard about it all the way there. Boo now has a chip which I shall register as soon as I finish this post. Callie has a lump on both sides, but the one on the left does appear larger and has a hard mass in it. She REALLY needs to have her teeth cleaned so tomorrow I'm going to take her in for that and while she's under they'll do the biopsy of the lump. I'm hoping it's nothing. I know I should have gotten her in earlier for a tooth cleaning, but she's been through so much at the vet's office over the years I wanted a little time to pass before doing it. It's time.
-
I hope Callie's dental goes well tomorrow and that the biopsy doesn't show anything bad.
I have to take Joshie in tomorrow for a dental, as well. I'm telling you, I have taken a mother cats with several kittens across town for adoptions, and Joshie yowls more than all of them put together when I take him to the vet.
-
DakotaCelt, maybe this is the time to look into moving somewhere warmer. I know the cold in North Dakota bothers you.

I was hired by the voice teacher who is running the camp, not by the ship. So, I will be a "regular guest". -I did just check out my cabin assignment. It's an interior room. A window would have been nice, but I'm pretty sure I'll be making sure I spend a lot of time on deck over the course of the 10 days.
Good, you don't have to wear a tux without the option to eat in the dining room. ;)

Well, this has been a hellishly difficult day. A nightmare of epic proportions, but the fact that I remained reasonably (if not completely) calm during all of it at least made me feel better. This all has to do with the helper, and while I cannot go into her personal stuff, she's had something from several years ago rear its head and she has to deal with it and how it's going to turn out is anyone's guess at this point. She's been out of commission since Friday afternoon (it's not health-related). How long she'll remain out of commission is not known at this time. The fact that this happened when we're trying to ship 2000 CDs was not the best timing. Luckily, her boyfriend has been helping her with our stuff and she gave him some instructions and he was able to print out all the postage and labels over the weekend. He came by, picked up the CDs needed, and promised me they would all go out by the end of today. My fear is this was a very complex release - with two titles, people ordering singles, multiples, and also the special bargain deal - so there's all kinds of combinations getting shipped. I know she was being very careful about this one in terms of notation, but I have no idea how careful he'll be - although, I stressed many times how important it was. He's supposed to call me to let me know it's done. Then he'll meet me tomorrow with other shipping labels and we'll send out the last of the dealer orders. I personally lugged 13 heavy boxes to the UPS Store. And that has been my entire day thus far, and I'm still dealing with it. I just ate some lunch and I will now write some pages, then go back to dealing with it. Once I know we're past this crunch, I'm then okay until the end of the month - if I have to replace her, her boyfriend will come and show whoever the replacement is how it all works.

Today I received my copy of THE THIN THIRTY about the 1962-63 University of Kentucky (Lexington0 football team.....suffering under first year coach Charlie Bradshaw.
He started out with 88 players in the spring of 1962, and only had 30 left by the time the season started.
It was also the 1959-63 teams that were involved in a sex for pay scheme with wrestling promoter Jim Barnett - who provided the team members for his friend Rock Hudson, who often traveled to Lexington to play..... Where he met Harvey Yeary - a football player that he invited to LA.
Rock was a silent partner in Lexington's gay bar JOHNNY ANGEL'S - now the Johnny Angel Disco in THE BAR complex in Lexington.

And that is our history lesson for today.

Nice words from DR CP for Mr Postlewaite.
I thought Miss Anne Francis was beautiful and always liked her performances......in the late 1980's, I saw her in Chicago playing M'Lynn in STEEL MAGNOLIAS.....and she was terrific.
In her last scene - well by they time she finished that last monolog and banged the top of the radio - there wasn't a DRY EYE in the house.....grown men were crying.....

I am so sorry, BK. This helper seemed like the perfect match. At least the boyfriend seems to be willing to help take up the slack.

I have re-boxed the Christmas decorations and cleaned out a few cabinets. Now I have the rest of the house to do ;)
First I need to email as many people as possible, those I have info for, to let them know why I didn't send cards this year.
-
Today I received my copy of THE THIN THIRTY about the 1962-63 University of Kentucky (Lexington0 football team.....suffering under first year coach Charlie Bradshaw.
Not the same Harvey Yeary who became Lee Majors?
-
I thought Miss Anne Francis was beautiful and always liked her performances......in the late 1980's, I saw her in Chicago playing M'Lynn in STEEL MAGNOLIAS.....and she was terrific.
In her last scene - well by they time she finished that last monolog and banged the top of the radio - there wasn't a DRY EYE in the house.....grown men were crying.....
You were very lucky to have seen her on stage.
I think so too DR JANE - we were doing the show at the Phoenix, and it was still running off Broadway, so it hadn't been done a lot, and I wanted to see it.....
Marcia Rodd was in it, too - but I don't remember which part she played.....I guess I should check my StageBill.

Sorry to hear about your stress, BK. I think it shows dedication that she got her boyfriend to help as much as he has, and it hopefully means that once she straightens her affairs out that she will be back to work.

I just collected another $1.15 for doing NOTHING through EBATES at EBAY.

At this rate, I may be able to afford the NETFLIX that DR MBARNUM was talking about yesterday.
I am watching THE LAST SUNSET that stars Mr Rock Hudson hisseff and also features Mr Rad Fulton.
-
I have not taken down any of my outdoor decorations. If anyone gives me any shit, I am going to tell them that I am waiting for Twelfth Night.
-
I am not allowed to touch the Christmas decorations before Epiphany, but on Friday - watch out!
-
Oh good heavens TCB, we don't take down the outdoor decorations until spring. too cold to do it

VIBES TO ALL WHO NEED THEM~~~~~~~~
-
Bk, this mysterious place that you went to for your resarch today wouldn't happen to be at 8152 Sunset Boulevard?
You mean yesterday's field trip? 8152 is a McDonald's near the Chateau Marmont - but no, my research was really confined to Hollywood proper, as I had to keep the crime in the Hollywood police's jurisdiction.
-
I'm going to have dinner with the best friend of the helper, so I can get more of the backstory - that way I may get a better bead on how this is going to play out. I really don't want to have to train yet another person.
-
DR DAKOTA, I'm serious about checking out job possibilities in Minnesota. They are much more socially conscious than most other states in the area. I don't think they would tolerate bullying. And it's just across the river for you.
-
Getting an extremely late start, I've written three-and-a-half pages so far - it's all history right now, but very interesting history, of both the location, which is real, and the crime, which is not. That's the fun of it, mashing up the real and fictional.

I would much rather not be able to connect to FB than to HHW. :)

It's working fine for me, Jane.

To facebook that is

Good timing on the responses. As Keith walked by I told him I'm the only one not connecting. My computer wasn't even recognizing FB. He eventually had to remove AVG & will replace it with something else tomorrow morning.

Damn! I thought I had it figured out. I have always thought that the Garden of Allah would the perfect place for a fictional murder.!
-
Good Cilla. Keith googled the problem & it seems others have had it as well.

John G., you seem so mellow. I can't believe you having problems with anyone.
-
The opening sketch for the Shoestring Revue featured a theatrical company trying to stage an opening with meaning and depth. The song they had was titled "Man's Inhumanity to Man." The setting was coal mine in which miners had been trapped supposedly for years. The set and lighting designers were told "only one chandelier -- it's that kind of a coal mine." Well, that's been my phrase for today: "It's that kind of a coal mine."

I wish. My allergies have made me a bear today. And irritating, stupid people seem hellbent on crossing my path.

And eight legs.

I went upstairs and Callie was pretty mellow in her room. I offered her food, but she didn't seem to want any, so I took it away for the evening, took her water and shut the door. I don't like to shut her in there, but it's the only way to keep her away from food for the night. It is her favorite room and where she usually sleeps, so it should be ok

Well, I had a shock at the pharmacy today when 4 prescriptions that a month ago cost me less than $50, today cost me $130. I suspect it has something to do with the new year and changes in the prescription coverage attached to my health insurance, but I'm certainly going to make a phone call tomorrow to investigate.
The pharmacy clerk was especially unhelpful and indifferent.
-
The Closer Season Finale time!!
-
I think I would keep the HGTV Dream House. I figure that during ski season I could rent out space in the bunk house to single college guys. For my own safety, I would probaly have to install video cameras in the bunk house and the showers.

I would have asked to speak to the pharmacist. It may just be the changes in the benefit year, but you have a right to know why the change was so drastic.

Yeah, DR TCB, I'm also thinking about going back tomorrow with last month's and this month's paperwork. These are the meds prescribed after my heart attack, so I'm not going to stop taking them. But I agree the explanation was most unsatisfactory.
-
And eight legs.
The caption mentioned a nice bed so I opened the photo expecting a nice bed under the pup-lol. Sherlock needs a new bed, one big enough for him to fit on.

Do you have a deduction to meet? We do and the prices go way up after the first of the year. My Forteo is so expensive it will almost meet my high deductible with one prescription.
-
I'm on my way to sup with the helper's best friend, after which I shall return and write a few more pages. I've done five so far, which is fine, actually, but I wouldn't mind doing another two or three so I can get to the end of chapter two.
-
Ginny, I had a prescription filled last week. I mentioned to the pharmacist that the price had gone up (about $10). His response: "Just wait until after January 1."

That is why I am so grateful that I have a Flex plan. All thsoe medical deductions, right after Christmas, would just about kill me without the Flex.

Yes, DR Jane, I think it's a deductible, but I want to find out for sure.

I have a two-day extra job on "Meet Jane," a new TV show. I have to be on the set at 5:45 a.m. and it's more than an hour from here, so I'm off to bed.
-
Sleep well John & stay awake on your morning drive.
-
Good day one and all..

Can you write a letter to the editor of a local paper and tell them your story?

George I wonder what our resident lawyer thinks of that. My guess it might be best not to say much, even here.
-
Two Show Biz deaths this morning:
Anne Francis
Pete Postlethwaite
:'(
Very sad. :(

Dakota, I wouldn't recommend writing a letter to the editor or posting details anywhere online before consulting an attorney who specializes in workplace discrimination.

Well, I finally got my wi-fi/3G working on my e-reader. After all that work it's not really worth the effort, mainly because it DRINKS battery power like water. I doubt I'll be using that feature much, especially since it was such a pain to set up at home. I don't know how tedious it would be to do it in a public place. Even after all that I do love the device and I'm glad I have it. I will continue using the reader every day. I look forward to using it on my next train trip to Long Island.
-
Trust me I have been tempted but I also know that could jeopardize things.
Needless to say, someday karma will bite them in arse
Strange as upsetting as not getting read for work tomorrow is.... I feel some sense of peace.

I've been sitting with Callie in her room with the door shut and the food and water gone (she needs to prep for tomorrow). She really seems happy to not have the other cats around. I let Ricky in for a few minutes and she was really ticked off. So we're having some quiet time together. It's nice
-
I will post a couple of recipes as long as the real chefs promise not to scoff
-
I thought maybe she'd be nervous or upset with the closed door. She seems relieved, lol. Perhaps we'll have to make this a habit from time to time

Health vibes to all who need them~~~~~~~~~

I checked out the QM2 bridge cam tongiht. It's dark. I hear that happens at night

Time to head home...it's been a day. At work, we need to roll over to the new fiscal year and it's supposed to be done through running different reports...too many to even mention. AND the manual says to not roll over items that I think we need to roll over into the new year, so what's that all about?? And the "help" isn't helpful, at all. :P AARRGGHH!!
-
Until later. :)

Back from a nice supper. I learned more of the story, so at least I have the history of it now. This thing could go several different ways, only one of which would be good, so that's what we're hoping for. We may know more on Thursday. I will only say that I loathe certain aspects of this country.
-
I guess I'll try to write another couple of pages before calling it a night.
-
VIBES for a good outcome for the helper

Busy, busy, busy. Had a ruthless spell today both concerning old documents, pictures, etc. on this computer, as well as my work computer, and, most importantly, old scores in my office. Lots of stuff in the recycle bin, both figurative and literal.
Also managed to pound out two reviews, of the lamentable THE TOURNAMENT (don't ask, I won't tell you ;) ) and the wonderful Abbado MAHLER 4.
-
That sounds good, Vixmom.
it is!
I wish I could have tasted your Cherpumple
-
DR Ginny,
As a former pharmacy clerk I can tell you that both the clerk and pharmacist will have not a clue (or even a clew) as to why your deductible is as it is/was. They simply run the prescription through the computer, which contacts the insurances computer, and it spits out a price as per your coverage.
You will need to call the insurance company to know what is what and why.
-
DR MBarnum - Did you get to wear a white coat?
-
Here's an interview with Christopher Tierney http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2011/01/03/tonight-at-11-exclusive-interview-with-spider-man-stuntman/
-
The interview is from WCBS. It's a video interview. He talks about his injuries and wanting to get back into the show
-
I wrote a few more pages and I think that's it for the evening - I think I did eight in all, so that's really good, especially as I did twelve yesterday and eleven the day before. I'll finish chapter two tomorrow and then it's on to Adriana's sleuthing. Then history has been given, and now she's on the case.
-
I will say that Google maps and "street view" have become an invaluable tool. I was able to see another address, exactly what's there now, and exactly what is on every side of it.
-
I have also found google maps and the 'street view" to be interesting....
BTW try this out for amusement on google maps...
Driivng instructions to get from Japan to china..... Yes... jetskis!

Tonight, I watched "Inception" that I downloaded from Amazon for free (I got a free 2-day on-line rental for buying the DVD) and I really enjoyed it...especially the special effects. And I didn't mind Leonardo as much as others. But what was funny (to me) was during the credits, they had this disclaimer:
No person or entity associated with this film received payment or anything of value, or entered into any agreement, in connection with the depiction of tobacco products.
:D

I have wanted to see but I have not had the chance to see it
