Well, you've read the notes, the notes had both chaos and then order, and now it is time for you to post until the chaotic cows come home.

As promised, your early peek at the new Kritzerland release.  You know the drill - it's 19.98 plus 3.75 shipping (23.73) paid via paypal to kritzerland at adelphia dot net.  This is a really wonderful score, so read all about it.

Kritzerland is proud to present a new world premiere limited edition soundtrack:

AUDREY ROSE
Music Composed and Conducted by Michael Small

The problem was The Exorcist.  In trying to sell the 1977 film Audrey Rose, the posters for the film made it look like it was going to be yet another ripoff of William Friedkin’s shocking and terrifying 1973 film.  But the fact is, Audrey Rose has nothing whatsoever to do with The Exorcist.  It is, in fact, about as far removed from that kind of visceral terror as you can get.  Based on the 1975 novel by Frank De Felitta (who also wrote the screenplay), Audrey Rose is not about possession by a demon of any sort – it is about reincarnation.  Director Robert Wise was certainly no stranger to making atmospheric films of this nature, starting at the beginning of his career when he worked with the master of understated terror, Val Lewton, directing The Curse of the Cat People and The Body Snatcher.   Years later, he would direct the brilliant horror film The Haunting, which was very much in the Lewton style.   Wise also had an uncanny ability to pick the perfect composers for his projects, and a major part of the film’s atmosphere is its musical score by the gifted Michael Small.

Born in 1939, Small began scoring films in the late 1960s, but it was his masterful score to the 1971 Alan Pakula film Klute that announced him as a unique voice in film scoring.  From that point on, he was a familiar name, providing some of the best scores for some of the best films of the 1970s, including The Parallax View, The Stepford Wives, Night Moves, The Drowning Pool, Marathon Man, The Driver, Comes A Horseman, The China Syndrome – there was no mistaking a Michael Small score, you knew it was his instantly, the minute the music began playing.  He went on to score many other films, such as Going In Style, The Postman Always Rings Twice, Rollover, The Star Chamber, Target, Dream Lover, Jaws: The Revenge, as well as working in television.

Small’s score for Audrey Rose is one of his best.  It is filled with his unique music, emphasizing character and drama and never playing for cheap effects.  It is at times haunting, at times lyrical, at times downright creepy and scary, but always in service of the story and the characters.   Right from the get-go, with his engaging and beautiful main title, right through to the film’s somewhat downbeat ending, Small’s music is simply and unerringly right.

The source material for Audrey Rose consisted of only two reels of tape in the MGM vaults.  These mono tapes, made from the music stem (which means the volume shifts up and down repeatedly, as it does in the film), were in good shape for what they were.   While it is not always easy to master from an up and down source, our mastering engineer, James Nelson, working his usual magic, got it to sound as good as it probably can.  The result is that we finally have one of Michael Small’s best scores on CD.

This release is limited to 1000 copies only.  The price of the CD is $19.98, plus shipping.   Additionally, we are offering a special deal with the purchase of this release.  Go to the item page and click on the link to find out about it.

CD will ship the first week of April – however, preorders placed directly through Kritzerland usually ship one to five weeks earlier (we’ve been averaging four weeks early).   To place an order, see the cover, or hear audio samples, just visit www.kritzerland.com.

Last night, I worked concessions for Kathy Najimy and the Seattle Women's Chorus.  It was a great show.  The chorus was pretty good and a lot of fun.  Kathy Najimy was very funny...not a great singer but she certainly performed with great exuberance. :D

I brought a program from "Parallel Lives" (co-written by Kathy Najimy) that I saw the night before and the booklet for the London cast recording of Sister Act to see if I could have them sent backstage for her autograph.  I didn't get to meet her (nor did I expect to) and I also didn't get her autograph.  She didn't sign any and she didn't come out to the lobby after the show.  Our house manager did ask Kathy's manager and he said that if they take my stuff with them, she'll sign them later and send them back to me.  I thought...why not?  So, unless something goes horribly wrong, I'll eventually get my stuff back with Kathy's autograph.

Good morning, all! Last night I had a couple of peculiar dreams - the first one involving a conductor and a lot of community players DR Ginny and I worked with in the 1970s along with several singer/actors I've been working with in the past several years. The dream most definitely took place in my hometown, although there was a side trip to a dormitory in Oxford, OH in an attempt to find someone. Then I was awakened around 4:30 am by what was, I would swear, a printing press in the apartment above cranking out something. Following that, the new neighbor - who is not living in the apartment - walked around for a bit and left, I think. I then had a peculiar dream involving a drive along endless country roads and a pamphlet with a tyrannosaurus on the cover. Oy!

Today, I will go to City Center and play with Joshie and the WHERE's CHARLEY? corrections. After that, I guess I will return home, refill my prescriptions, and spend some time drafting a letter concerning a job I wish to leave.

Since Thursday my father has been having problems with nosebleeds.  We take him to the emergency room where his nose is packed.  And on Friday made an appointment with a specialist for today.

Of course every evening my father removes the packing when he is NOT SUPPOSED to.  I know it is uncomfortable....but those are the orders.  EVERY DAY since Thursday we have had to get up in the middle of the night and rush him to the emergency room.
Including last night.

I was planning to take him to the doctor today - along with my mother.  However my brother in law and my sister have decided that THEY must take him to the doctor and I will work this morning.  The appointment is 9:15, so they should really be at the store with my father by 10 a.m. or so and I can take my father home. the doctor's office in down the street from the store.

My feeling is they will BRING HIM ALL THE WAY HOME and then stand around for another hour or two, and I will be lucky if I get out of work by 2 p.m. on my day off.

I'm feeling very good Larry. Thanks for asking. It's been almost a week since the surgery and every day is better. The bandages are gone and I can see the small incisions. It's amazing how they can get the organ out of your body through that little hole in my navel (or one of the other two holes I now have in my stomach area). I'll go back to work tomorrow and see the doctor on Friday and we will take it from there.

Yes, John. It was the 1999 restored version and the entire 132 minute soundtrack exists but about 7 minutes of the film is still missing so they did the reconstruction with stills from the missing film scenes.

As much as I loved the movie we did notice an oddity. Maria (played by Eddie Albert's wife, Margo) came to Shangri-La in 1888 when she was 20. Chan states that clearly in the scene where she comes in looking for George. The film was set in 1935. If she was born in 1868 she would have been 67 when she left. They made it sound like she was almost as old as Sam Jaffe as the High Llama and the aging make up made her look ancient. Even in 1935 67 was not OLD like 80 or 100. 1888 (or 1868) sounds like a long time ago (and nowadays it is) but in 1935 it wasn't. Just a strange moment for me in an otherwise great film.

I found this week that my DVR, on it's own, decided to stop recording some of my shows...SOUTHLAND, DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, RULES OF ENGAGEMENT, and a couple of others. I had to reprogram the machine to record them all. Don't know why this happened, but it is not the first time.

I didn't notice at first, I just figured each show was doing reruns...but after several weeks I decided to check, and oh my gosh, I was missing new episodes!

Title: Re: RESTORING ORDER

I decided against continuining DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, as I hadn't really missed it at all.

I may also give up SOUTHLAND....I think it is a wonderful show, but since the FCC or whoever is in charge of such things, loosened the rules on swear words this year, SOUTHLAND is now "blah, blah, blah, sh*t, blah, blah, sh*t, blah, sh*t, sh*t, sh*t."

It get's tiring.

The F word is used a LOT as well, even though it is bleeped out. That is also tiring.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

I'm celebrating Pepsodent Day by working...

But at least I don't have it as bad as my sister who works as an assistant broker for Wells Fargo.  Her office is closed because the stock market is not open today.  But because Wells Fargo banks are open, the broker office employees are required to take a vacation day today as their time off.  My sister and a couple of co-workers are looking into the legality of this incredibly stupid rule.

I'm surprised the banks are open.  I wanted to go to our local library today and it is closed.

Printer's working again.  Apple Man said it had nothing to do with what we did yesterday - just a coincidence.  He had me nuke the two other printers that were still in the printer list (my old ones) and this one, and then we turned the printer off and on and it just appeared in the list again and was working.

I've been traveling a lot lately: Athens, GA Friday fir the B-52's 34th anniversary concert, Blue Ridge to stay with my dad SAt. and back to Athens on Sunday to show our film at the Athens Jewish Film Festival. It was a SRO crowd, lots of friends form my college days, and fun to show my film at my alma mater. A reception followed: hot dogs, cracker jacks, bagels, rugelach...lowwed by He-brew beer. So much fun!

I'm going back for closing night---live klezmer music! Can't wait!
The B-52s gave one of the best concerts I've ever seen in my life. Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers opened. It was an outdoor concert on a summer evening and it was as a thrill.

Excellent funeral for a truly deserving man. Didn't know a lot about John Koch except the usual small talk you make at church and church events. Turns out he was a leading biochemist at one of the bases here, and he did a lot with helping soldiers with war wounds. After he retired, he sort of became a fixture at the police station, so there were some 50 officers in uniform (right down to the guns and night sticks) that processed in together. Felt even safer in that sanctuary today.

John would always stand out front greeting people before the earlier service, in good and bad weather. Pastor talked about that and had a few jokes about what they would talk about and how welcome John made people feel. Before the end of his message, though, he got very choked up and had to take a moment before finishing.

One of the digital subchannels here recentl broadcasted this movie and it does have a great score

One of the HR people here in the office showed me her Barnes & Nobel Nook this morning and I was impressed.  If I decide to upgrade at some point, and the next version of the Kindle does not go to color, I would definitely consider the Nook.

I like the idea of buying an individual issue of a magazine without having the clutter of an actual magazine haunting my coffee table for a week (or three...)

RE: LAST NIGHT'S THE AMAZING RACE!

Last night's Amazing Race was lots of fun...many of the teams were my favorites during their previous seasons...I think there are only 3 teams that I am not wild about.

I had the opposite reaction.  I didn't find it to be a very good premiere (and this is one of my favorite shows). Most of the teams were not my favortes the first time around. Nor do i want to see them again.  Plus most of them were not even very good the first time.

There were a few teams who really fit into the theme of the show (unfinished business): Zev and justin (who lost their passports the first time),  amanda and Kris (who were u-turned).

But there are so many teams who were not competitive in their original seasons. I guess I just don't get it. There is only one team i actually cheered for in their original season (jaime and cara).  findthe spunky and competitive. But many people hate them.

Mr. Apple is confounded by how my Time Capsule is behaving so he sent me some sort of program that captures what it's trying to do - it's taking way too long in "preparing backup" - it should take seconds for it to begin when it's just finished a backup - there's nothing NEW to backup and therefore everything should take less than a minute.  After five minutes of "preparing backup" I sent him the captures and now that gets sent to their senior techs and I'll get a call later in the week.  Meanwhile, he suggested that if this next backup is screwy and taking forever that I just shut off the Time Capsule backup until they call me.

Back from a full day with the cousins.  We left about noon for the retirement community and visited my Mom before going to my aunt's house to gather up her mail and clothes.  We visited with her caring neighbor and then went to visit her.  She's still pretty disoriented, but thinks it will probably be a good idea to move to assisted living when she's stronger.  Lunch at Skyline Chili on the way home.

My cousin called home and it was such fun to listen to Rei talk to his 5-year-old sister:

"JapaneseJapaneseJapaneseJapaneseJapaneseChickenJapaneseJapaneseJapaneseJapaneseJapaneseJapaneseJapaneseJapaneseWishboneJapaneseJapaneseJapaneseJapaneseJapaneseJapaneseJapaneseJapaneseJapaneseJapaneseChicken PieJapaneseJapaneseJapaneseJapaneseJapanese"

He was telling her about the chicken I served for dinner last night, the wishbone he and his dad pulled this morning, and the chicken pie I made for dinner tonight.  When she talked to my cousin she asked, "Dad, did you eat meat?"  Indignant and a little bit jealous.

While I love having them here, it makes me kind of sad that my aunt is missing out on enjoying her grandchildren.

Ginny that is sad.

Would you like some good vegetarian recipes? ;)

No, thanks, DR Jane.  They're leaving for Georgia tomorrow and I think my cousin is enjoying the American diet.

So soon.  It is a shame your aunt didn't have relaxed fun time with her grandson.

This has been a bit of a frustrating day and I'm pissed at someone I respect a good deal. I'll get over it, but I'm very angry at him today.

Oh geez, what did I do now?

You're so vain! You should have known you were out of the situation when I said it was someone I respected!

DR JRand60, back in my Kimmel recording days, I had a spate of horrible nosebleeds. It was suggested that I needed more iron in my system. My memoet is that I tried iron tablets and it didn't help. I had to have my nose cauterized. I hope your dad will be okay.

"Pernambuco" is corrected and ready for Thursday/

On second thought, I would like a veggie lasagna recipe that's also low fat...

I have a good low-cal easy to make bean burrito which is tasty enough to serve to company.

I rarely make lasagna but converting your favorite recipe should be easy.   I'll see if I can find one of my vegetarian lasagna recipes & get back to you.  I expect they still need to be converted to low cal but I doubt that is difficult to do.

So what you are saying is that all the teams are losers?

Topic of the Day:

Fiddler on the Roof
Jesus Christ Superstar
Moonstruck
The Thomas Crown Affair

As for Cher songs, I've liked just about everything of her's that I've heard (with or without Sonny), but I don't know any well enough to say that any are my "favorites."

George, isn't she in Seattle for the next two nights?

Two nights, yes, but not until later in the week.

Kind of sounds like my DVR...sometimes it just doesn't record individual episodes of shows, but fortunately it hasn't deleted any series recording. :P

Well, I just popped in and now I must be off.  I'm going to see "Unknown" with my friend Margo, then we'll dine, then I'll go to the first read-through for Cannibal! The Musical!  I was planning on doing laundry, but I still have some clean socks and underwear. ;)

Have a good day, all!

Well, we were supposed to see "Unknown," but Margo got there first and bought a ticket to see "Sanctum," the underwater movie.  It was an extra $3.50 because it's in 3-D.  The movie is pretty intense (SPOILERS!! several people die by drowning...and it looks quite real! :o))

Anyway, I'm off now to our first read-through!

Be back later!

Thanks for the vibes.....yes DR GINNY - a crash course.

I was relieved at about 1:30 p.m. which was nice.

DR TCB - I think I mentioned the closing night curtain speech appearance of "the Mayor" which had the residual effect of killing on of my last jokes in the show.....grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Thank you for your nice comments.  It was more in the nature of a performance than acting.....but it was fun.

It would be great if you could find a comedy for you and the young man who played your son-in-law.  You two had great chemistry together.

And, also, no one can tell what kind of smut you are reading!

I loved every minute of it.  Don't know what tomorrow will bring.  I did send an email to Edith with some specifics of some procedures that she thinks I'm not very clear about.  Don't know what else I can do.  I'm not going to worry about it.  I'm going to go to work and do my job and just see what happens.  Hopefully we'll get this worked out

Back around 1985 I had a HUGE crush on a guy named Don. I think I was about 22 and he was and older man of 25, at that time.

We only knew each other for a short time as he soon moved to Portland and then on up to Washington. I have fond memories of us creating Halloween costumes together at his apartment and hanging out together at the bar with my other buddies.

Well, I found him on Facebook recently and now we are Facebook friends.

Of course he has no recollection of me whatsoever, but hey, it is nice to know he is still around. LOL!

Even though he knew better I had to remind Keith not to stop at the mailbox today.

I forgot it wasn't a mail day. I put a condolence card in the mail for a friend in the Netherlands whose brave 11 year old daughter finally succumbed to a brain tumor she's had for most of her life. He is a member of a yahoo group (Randy N.) I belonged to back before his daughter was even born, so the members have been with her through her many years of surgeries and struggles, and she was part of our virtual family. Even though we never actually met, friends of mine have met him over there, and there has been a great outpouring of love and sympathy. I haven't been a part of this group for years but the friendships formed have remained. One of the intangible rewards of social networking...
