I just read in VARIETY that WICKED's advance sales as of this morning amount to $20 million plus. Not bad for a show that lost the Tony Award for Best Musical.

Very sad news here. The best man at my neices wedding this last April was killed in a car accident yesterday. He was only 23 years old and was on his way back to from taking his finals at Oregon State University in Corvallis...he was to graduate this weekend. I remember him at the wedding ...he was just the life of the party...quite a comedian. Such a tragedy. He and the groom had been friends since childhood and my sister says that my neice hasn't stopped crying.

Has anyone else had trouble being able to post?

I didn't think my post on Page One went through.  But somehow it did twice.  But then I couldn't get back on the board.  I could read the  notes.  But to get on the board it either said "too many connections" or it just wouldn't take.  Not sure if the problem was with my computer. But it seems fine now.

Re: What DR Jason said about being mad that the producers of Avenue Q promised the road producers they would tour.

I don't know the whole story.  And I hate the idea of them purposely misrepresenting the facts (if that is what happened).  But I'm beginning to despise how these road producers vote.  And it's actually sort of funny if they only voted for Avenue Q because of its touring potential.

These little glitches happen from time to time, especially on AOL.  Only infrequently is it the site itself, and that error message is very specific.  The momentary ones are just the usual Internet glitches that come and go.

House cd player: Lee Lessack singing Johnny Mercer songs.

Uh... Mom? That's my Arthur CD.

Right now I am eating breakfast: chocolate pudding and a Cherry Coke. Feels great to start the day off right.

Dr Sandra, I don't believe that chocolate pudding is a healthy breakfast alternative! Now go and eat your oatmeal!

Thanks guys. When you are young like they all are you just don't expect things like that to happen.

But, I guess when you are old you just don't expect things like that to happen, either.

...I hate the idea of them purposely misrepresenting the facts (if that is what happened).  But I'm beginning to despise how these road producers vote.  And it's actually sort of funny if they only voted for Avenue Q because of its touring potential.

Like I said before, it's not always about rewarding quality...it's about filling seats. Presenters across the country knew that WICKED would tour well with or without the Tony. Ultimately, AVENUE Q is a "better" show than WICKED...the score is catchy, the lyrics clever...but it's also "edgy" (they use the 'F' word a lot and have naked puppets having sex on stage). That makes the show difficult to sell in the Midwest. I think the presenters felt that if AVENUE Q got the extra push to make it win Best Musical it would be a much more viable product for them. People are much more willing to see a show with 'F' words and internet porn if it's the Best Musical of 2004. Now the producers have turned the tables on the presenters, already having their votes, and have used the Best Musical award to their greater advantage by booking an open-ended run in a high profile location. None of us here knows the full story, but as I said, I have a very reliable source here at the office and I know a lot more than I'm allowed to share with you. Trust me, there are shady dealings going on here on the part of the producers of the show. You are right, though, to think that it's a crappy thing for Tony voters to cast ballots based on what show will tour the best. It just so happens that this year it's come back to bite the presenters in the ass. But that, I suppose, is why this is called Show BUSINESS.

Oatmeal for breakfast?? Do you know how much sugar they put in that??

Seriously, though, I am very sorry to hear about what happened. That is so very sad.

Sandra, you're a mess! :-)

Why thank you.

Some of my neighbors were sitting outside watching us as we took those pictures. I think I heard them laughing at me.

By the by, Jason, you have no idea how much fattening junk I put in those cookies (and this pudding, as a matter of fact) and you did promise an extra hour on your elliptical machine... Maybe I should teach you how to do The Tap-Dancing Gazelle. It's a real workout. Although people tend to laugh at you if you do it where anyone can see you...

Sandra: They weren't laughing AT you...they were laughing...well...AT you. OK.

And believe me, cookies that taste that good can't have anything BUT junk in them! I've been bad about the gym, but I promise I'll do better...

Condolences to MBARNUM's niece and her husband and the young man's family.  So sad.....

Thanks for the pictures of your movie shoot, MRBK.  How interesting to see.  It looked like a very professional gig!  What did you wear, a suit and tie, I presume since you were a newscaster....or did you have to have a costume under the jacket....did you ever stand up?

DRCHARLES POGUE - I also enjoyed your story of the search for the second DVD!

Media check:

CD:  Bette Midler's Greatest Hits
DVD - Moon Over Broadway
VHS - Warner Bros mysteries courtesy MBARNUM, including guest appearances by Gloria Talbot and Corey Allen!  Not to mention Ruta Lee.

Thanks Jrand53...

Did you listen to the Thunderbirds soundtrack? It is a lot of fun! There are a couple of new Thunderbirds DVDs coming out soon. One has the two Thunderbird's movies (I saw one of them on TV recently, Thunderbirds are Go and it was a stinkeroo, let me tell you...very dull), and a best of Thunderbirds TV episodes. There are like 6 episodes (including one episdoe that has that fun pop-up thing that TechTV had) and it retails for only about $16.00, which is a very good price if you happened to see how much they were asking for the previous DVD releases of those episodes!

And as I am about done with my Stingray episodes it will be a good time to see some more Thunderbird shows!!

My question is will AVENUE Q do business in a 1,200 seat theatre 10 times a week?  I read that CHICAGO was booked there a few years ago and had to cut its engagement short due to lack of business... and CHICAGO is much more the type of entertainment that people who go to Vegas seem to like.

Good Afternoon!

Topic of the Day:

DVD: "Camp" - And I've started organizing the pile of other DVDs that I will be watching in the coming weeks.  The one "problem" I'm having is deciding how I should "prioritize" the DVDs of movies that I have already seen in the theatre vs. ones I've never seen before.  I didn't think that would be a problem, but it is.  Decisions, decisions...

CD: Various vocalists: Janis Siegel, Cheryl Bentyne, Jessica Molaskey, etc.; Avenue Q; Bill Charlap Trio CDs - I really want to play like this guy!  Soo good!

VCR: Nothing, but I'm getting ready to tape the new "Trading Spaces: Unglued" special this weekend for a certain DR who's VCR is not working right now, but, what the heck?  ;)

I did a TV show called This is the Life, which was directed by Corey Allen - very nice fellow.  I know there were some good people in the show with me but I can't remember anything about it other than it was shot in two-and-a-half days and as we were starting the previous show was finishing and I got to meet the infamous director Lee "Roll 'em" Sholem.

Trading Spaces: Unglued!?! For me? I have a question: What the heck is Trading Spaces: Unglued? What's the premise? I've not heard of it, but I thank you for thinking of me...Now I HAVE to get a new VCR. :)
