Good Morning Michael S. Very early!!!
Lots of fun! Thank you for the great photos, DR MBarnum. Ms. Shirly Jones looks CUTE! She must have completely forgetten to get old for these twenty years.
DR Jason- I had thought sharing my own hardship would help alleviate yours, knowing that someone else had something more gross, but really - I can't top YOUR blister story. Maybe if I tell you about my kidney stone, but that was many years ago.
I don't have any kidney stone stories. I've heard they're awful, though. You got me on that one! :)
Yes, they are about as awful as anything could be. I've passed four of them since age 30.
My fave Cary Grants are:
Penny Serenade
In Name Only
Mr. Blandings Builds His Dreamhouse
The Bachelor and the Bobbysoxer
Loren, I haven't a clew
Shall I relate the story of the time I punched myself in the cajones? It is theatre related.
I have a theatre related story that includes a six inch splinter in my bottom which required a emergency room visit to remove
Dear lord, this just isn't that kind of site!
Dear lord, this just isn't that kind of site!
Well it could be if everyone would just put in a bit of effort ....TCB and I can't do it all alone y'know!!! ;D
How could I forget Mr. Blandings Builds His Dreamhouse !!
DR MattH, where did you find the Lennon closing info?
I'm quite sure there's a splendid punchline in there somewhere about TCB doing it alone, but I'll leave it for others (possibly TCB himself) to work out. ;D
So, LENNON is closing up shop at the end of the week. Are any of you NYCers planning to catch it before it goes away?
An NYC friend whispered it to me, but perhaps it was just wishful thinking.
I love how we constantly reference TCB, when the fact is we are all just as foul at heart! :)
I'm off to the wilds of the East Side and the Village. Where's my gun? And my pith helmet?
I had the chance to crack open The Muppet Show first season collection this weekend. I couldn't get over how entertaining these shows remain. The skits and musical numbers are pretty much hoary old vaudeville/TV variety show quality, but the Muppets and the guest stars carry everything off with such panache that everything seems fresh. (And I'm surprised that the guest stars from such early episodes are so willing to throw themselves into the proceedings and go along for the ride--long before the show could have gained a reputation for being a fun gig.) We watched the whole first disc all the way through on Saturday night and there are three more to go. Each episode gets better than the previous one, and from what I've read, the show overall got better and better season by season. I will be collecting them all!
Berniece left another bruise across the bridge of my nose this morning. She's a tough broad! I'm gonna have to make some adjustments, I think, to prevent any further bruising...
DR George: How funny that her hubby uses CPAP and actually had the cojones to wear it on TV! Good for him. I've decided if I ever become a recognizable name, I'm going to be a spokesperson for the American Sleep Apnea Association (www.sleepapnea.org).
Favourite Cary Grant movies:
PENNY SERENADE (He should've won an Academy Award)
DR MattH, where did you find the Lennon closing info?
TPunk returns tonight!!!
A part of the episode (and some of the next) was about Matt (Kathy's husband) becoming eligible for gastric bypass surgery. He was approved, but decided not to do it. That was pretty brave, also!
Big Brother 6 Spoilage:
Still...while I'm a bit disappointed that Kaysar trusted Janelle -- and know it has ruined the game for who I consider to be "the good guys" -- it is fun to see James manipulating the "disciples" so very well.
TNT says the season opener was its top original-scripted series ever. And critics give Kyra much of the credit.
Her character is brilliant but neurotic and not always tactful. Kyra laughed when I remarked that she had more nervous tics than Tony Shalhoub in Monk. “I take that as a compliment,” she said.
hours, minutes, seconds until the return?
c'mon, you know you know
He must be a large man to be both on CPAP and eligible for gastric bypass. Good for him for being brave enough to deal with those very private things on the air.
WD40 is not a chemical normally associated with combating illegal drug use. Defoliants over Colombia, maybe. But not WD40.
According to a report on the BBC Radio Five Live Breakfast show, Avon and Somerset police are advising Bristol bar owners to spray the household cleaner and lubricant in their bathrooms to stop cocaine use.
The spray puts an "invisible film" over toilets and basins that absorbs the cocaine when any tries to snort it off them. It instead turns it into a congealed mess. The advice comes just a few days after BBC Wiltshire reported that a pub owner in Swindon was spraying it on toilet seats because anyone who then tried to snort cocaine off them got a nose bleed.
Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of HHW's?
Rodzinski knows!!!
MBarnum what are your dates?
I will arrive at JFK at 845am on Sat. 10/1 and will leave on 10/6 in the evening.
I have a theatre related story that includes a six inch splinter in my bottom which required a emergency room visit to remove
I have suffered a lot
And I'm certainly not
Unaware that this life has its black side.
I have starved in a ditch
I've been burned for a witch
And I'm missing the half of my backside.
...re the turmoil at the pressing plant...
I will arrive at JFK at 845am on Sat. 10/1 and will leave on 10/6 in the evening. To Brits and Australians you are arriving in January and leaving in June. DR Elmore will be indeed a generous host. (Despite his week away)
Sounds like a scene from Thoroughly Modern Millie!

"Big Brother 6" Spoilage:
The deed is done. Kaysar is nominated.
Janelle was furious and read the riot act to Jennifer. Rachel got a few things off her chest. Kaysar was mad but the worst probably hasn't come from him.
James and the bitches (that's April, Ivette, Maggie, Jenn and Beau --- or, JamBitch, as I am now referring to them) sat around a table and worked themselves into a frenzy of convincing themselves that their lies have been true and that they've played the game right and that Kaysar and the others have played badly.
JamBitch is very sensitive to some comments Rachel made to Jenn about having put the spotlight on herself. The funny thing is, Jenn and April and Ivette are absolutely CERTAIN they're going to be "stars" and "darlings" when the show ends. Hah!
Jenn and April have continued to deny, among Jambitch, that they NEVER proposed backdooring Ivette last week...it was all Howie and Rachel and that Kaysar had this coming because of it.
Rationalizations are wonderful things...but JamBitch is out of its freaking head with irrationality, IMO.
Time will tell what happens.
I'd love to see Kaysar, Janelle, Howie and Rachel pack and leave the house tonight....leaving JamBitch alone to suddenly ponder what they have not pondered (all except the splendidly devious mastermind James) -- what happens when it's just them alone....who gets nominated? How do they turn on one another?
Sigh.
Today is National Lemon Merangue Pie Day!
Today is National Lemon Merangue Pie Day!
DR Jason, that cool. Does he know he's your greek? :P
Oy, did we have a busy weekend. Adair and I did a fund-raiser Saturday for the theater company where the Bacharach show played. Classic music director story that Jose and Larry at least will appreciate. I'm standing off to the side and some guy walks up to me and starts to say "Great piano playi--" He gets that far, sees Adair standing behind me, and I am forgotten like a piece of trash on the highway. He moves directly onto Adair to shower her with praise without even finishing his sentence to me. :D
Jason - Not in NY, i'm trying to map out a trip to Vegas for November or December. Hoping to time it so that I can see Barry Manilow and Ka and Avenue Q. Good Ka availability seems to be the biggest sticking point so far.
I'm quite sure there's a splendid punchline in there somewhere about TCB doing it alone, but I'll leave it for others (possibly TCB himself) to work out. ;D......
I love how we constantly reference TCB, when the fact is we are all just as foul at heart! :)
For Jane:
IT MUST BE IN THERE SOMEWHERE!

No, the Greek is unaware. I wish I had the nerve to tell said Greek, but alas, I am the proverbial chicken.
FJL: Barry's in town?? When!?!
And by strange coincidence, my Greek played a lead role in the national tour of COPACABANA.
This looks like a Mogwai.
Jeff, if it makes you feel any better, I think I pushed Adair out of the way so I could talk to you. Different strokes..........
... I think I should begin weeding out my tin collection. :(
I wonder if DR Matt H got his kitchen floor mopped properly this past weekend.
He told us he was dreading doing it, but I don't recall reading that it got done.
DerBrucer Keith & I agree the kitten looks like a Scottish Fold.
Mad Cow Rules Broken Over 1,000 Times
Monday, August 15, 2005
WASHINGTON — Inspectors have found more than 1,000 violations of rules aimed at preventing mad cow disease from reaching humans, the Agriculture Department said Monday.
…
A meatpacking industry official said the violations were minuscule and should not be worrisome.
"The truth is that these very low numbers ... demonstrate a remarkable level of compliance with federal regulations exceeding 99.9 percent," said Jim Hodges, president of the meatpacking industry's American Meat Institute Foundation.
DRRodzinski, did TPunk arrive safely?
MBarnum what are your dates?
We have finally ordered our new kitchen cabinets and the new appliances. :D We have installers for both lined up as well as the electrician. Now we need to find people to do everything else, all before we go visit Craig.
I will also need to get rid of everything in the kitchen I can bear to part with. I’m slowly working on it. I think I should begin weeding out my tin collection. :(
I've just been on the phone with Jonathan Tunick for an hour, mostly on THE GOLDEN APPLE rehearsals next week, but also some catching up on what we've been up to. I don't know all the cast for the GOLDEN APPLE on Aug 28, but I've got several friends in it: Crista Moore, Daniel Marcus, Ken Jennings, and Nancy Opel. John Cullum, Howard McGillin, Ann Crumb and David Staller are also in it, and I'm looking forward to meeting Cullum. I met Ann Crumb through Dear Friend BK many moons ago. Didn't she audition for LOST IN BOSTON, or was it something else?
Ann Crumb... I believe I saw her as Aldonza opposite John Cullum's Quixote in Seattle around 1995ish. I was quite impressed by her performance.
Can someone who understands the iTune store tell me how it works - how do you search, etc. Do you have to register? None of this seems apparent from their splash page. And can someone ascertain if Guy Haines and After the Ball are available? They're supposed to be.
I have the original London cast recording of The Goodbye Girl with Ann Crumb and she's good, but the "new" score (totally different than the Broadway version...all new lyrics by Don Black, also) is not good at all. :P
Don Black... now there's a discussion. Being the lone Lloyd Webber fan in these parts....
I thought T S Eliot was rather a competent wordsmith!
