Well, you've read the notes, the notes were a plus, and now it is time for you to post until the plus cows come home.

And the word of the day is: HELIOTROPE!

And now - Dino at the piano.

Six GUESTS? What is THAT about? It's so weird when that happens. Months of sixty GUESTS day and night and then suddenly six. Go know.

Five GUESTS, three of whom are spambots registering for an account, like the thirty of THOSE I get a day aren't enough.

Morning all.
That is all.

Peter Filichia sums up Chaplin pretty well. My feelings as well. It's not a terrible show, it's not even "that bad" it's just not very good and there is nothing exciting or wonderful (apart from Rob McLure's performance) in the show. Unless they dig deep into their pockets I don't think the producers will keep this open much longer.

I liked CHAPLIN when it was called LIMELIGHT (about six years ago).

DR Matthew - RE: MISS SAIGON - I remember sitting through a run-thru with just one piano, a reed player (saxophone and flute) and percussion. I loved it. I'm sure a second piano would be quite the nice boost.

Good morning, all! I wanted to sleep in, but I have a full day today. Supposedly, the AC repairmen at Toyland - who had my cell phone number but never called - will be working on the AC duct today. I have warned the supr that they must be finished and out of there by 2pm, because i have to get home to deal with today's mail and shower and change clothes to catch the final performance of the Irish Rep's NEW GIRL IN TOWN. If they are not, there will be hell to pay, both for the building management as well as the AC folk.
So, I will head down to Toyland shortly to wait for them, and God alone knws when they will show. While I'm there, I've got work on the Appalachian show, the final Ballet Ballad, and playing on the computer.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Good Weekend Vibes and Safe Travels to One & All! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
Hmmmm . . . the bartender neighbor above me and his lady friend are awfully noisy this morning. There's quite an amount of loud talk and screams of outrage (?) coming through the air vents.
I've had four neighvors in that apartment: the first was a gay college commercial art student who liked big band and music from the 30s, the second was his photographer lesbian sister who used the place during the day as a studio and was out between 8pm and 8am. The next was the awful Canadian with the noisy fold-out bed and the sweet dog who barked too much, and now the tenant is this pleasant young man who's usually pretty quiet.
Boston Bound vibes for DR JOSE.
Hmmmm.....CHAPLIN sounds very ambitious, but not very good.
Great column. That's encapsulates why reading Filichia is always fun. He bothers to analyze something.
The Man Who Folded Himself by David Gerrold
Off to work. OH well.
DR MATTHEW I think two pianos and full percussion sounds most interesting!!
DR JRand62, good news about last night! I hope the entire run goes well!
Greetings from Toyland! I am listening to John McGlinn's BROADWAY SHOWSTOPPERS recording, which I haven't played in years. Mr Gaines' uncontrollable vibrato in "Dancing in the Dark" is driving me mad ("Dancing in the d-a-a-a-a-a-a-rk") He's so much better on the wonderful SITTING PRETTY recording. I'll bet that when he showed up in London with that vibrato, McGlinn knew he was screwed.
My printer problem saga carries on. After swapping the so-called compatible inks for Epson ones again, I found streaks still appearing on the prints. I spoke to Epson who said using the cheap inlks has obviously clogged the heads and the printer needs servicing. The cost of that wasn't worth it for a 4 year old model so I've bought a new printer - another Epson, because they are one of the few makes which include CD printing. So the cheap inks have ended up being very expensive. Anyway, I've installed the new printer which is brilliant.
Here's one that we totally agree on.
I also disliked the CAPE FEAR remake; thought DeNiro was way over the top.
Mitchum is terrific in the original. That, along with THE FRIENDS OF EDDIE COYLE, HEAVEN KNOWS MR. ALLISON and THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER are his finest film performances.
Didn't care for the remake as a whole, either. But I did like certain elements. There was something about Nick Nolte and Jessica Lange together that was believable and made the horror of what's happening more real than Bergen and Peck.
But I also loved the John D. MacDonald original. He was a lot better writer than I originally gave him credit for. Not literature, perhaps, and misogynistic, but great pulp. Muscular, lean.
Back from a fun breakfast. Returned to the e-mail I knew would be coming. While it still had attitude, it was less than before. I would not like that DR Matthew.
Usually, in September, it gets hotter. But we've had temps in the 70's this year. Kinda sad, really. It'll start getting cool in October, and then MAYBE we'll have a winter. I don't remember much of that last year either.
I've had years like that. Spring never seems to happen until summer & then summer is very short.
I'm sure your caterpillars are butterflies by now. They only are in the cat stage a couple of weeks. Glad your parsley is growing back. (You had black swallowtail cats - my photos are monarchs.)
Here is a black swallowtail cat eating dill in a thrilling video called "Caterpillar Eating Dill."
Finished watching the fantasy ghost movie JAL MAHAL, which turned out to have neither fantasy nor ghosts...it was did have a bit of mystery to it and a nifty ending, but it was not certainly not a horror film, or even a thriller.
The lead actress, Rekha, was quite pretty. She was a big star in the 70s and 80s.
Just as my movie was getting exciting I received a phone call from my doctors office telling me that the blood test I had the other day revealed something "dangerously high" as well as an elevated PSA....don't know what either thing means, but they are needing me to see a specialist right soon, they said. Evidently the specialist's office will be calling me next week to make an appointment.
So, wasn't too happy to get this news at the beginning of my long weekend, although it is likely nothing to worry about.
In other news, on Sunday I am taking my grand-niece Taylor to see her first Broadway (tour) musical...MEMPHIS. We are both looking very forward to it!
PSA test results can be false positive so don't panic. Also search on things not to do, and to do before taking the test. You might read the list and decide to request a re-take.
I am now settling down to watch INSAAN AUR SHAITAN (Human of Devil; 1970). It looks to be a fun, B movie action picture.
-
Lobster was cheaper than beef this week, so I cooked lobster for the first time tonight. It wasn't like a scene in "Annie Hall," but it wasn't the fun most I've ever had cooking. That said, the lobsters were wonderful. Somehow "The Glamorous Life" from "A Little Night Music" playing in the background, a bottle of finely aged fume' blanc and some coleslaw all made for a perfect meal. I was even nice enough to give the bird a bite. He wanted more. He only got the tiniest bit more.
-
Wow, JohnG, beef must be expensive where you live.
I left my sister's house at 8:30pm it was not raining. I had to pick something up at the library. By the time i got there 10 minutes later it was pouring. And my umbrella flipped over and broke. That has never happened to me before. :(
I've had that happen many a time when it was very windy.
-
Thank you one and all for your good wishes.
-
I am excited. Tomorrow a bunch of women authors are doing a big book signing at a bookstore near me. Two of the authors I read a lot. And I've heard lots about the books of another 2 or 3. Should be very interesting. Need to remember my camera.
Have a good time.
Thank you one and all for your good wishes.
With the year you have had you deserve an extra congratulations for staying strong.
Well, I must be off. I'm going to meet some friends to try and get some rush tickets ($15 or $20 instead of $31) for The Americans
Across the Street (http://www.harlequinproductions.org/seasonpages/12/the_americans_across_the_street.html). It's supposed to be very good and a friend of mine is the lead.
Until later!
There were no peanuts in my Pesto Minus Pinenuts, either. So I guess maybe it was Pesto Minus Pinenuts and Peanuts.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TCB!!!
Cilla, how nice to see you posting! Is everything okay?
We just went for a walk around the house. The workers hosed down the driveway before they left, Keith did the deck & now it is much nicer out there.
Finished watching the fantasy ghost movie JAL MAHAL, which turned out to have neither fantasy nor ghosts...it was did have a bit of mystery to it and a nifty ending, but it was not certainly not a horror film, or even a thriller.
The lead actress, Rekha, was quite pretty. She was a big star in the 70s and 80s.
Too bad she had that big pimple on her nose!
30 some years later, she still looks great!
She does.
Say what?
What say?
I began watching a motion picture and immediately went out like a light for forty minutes.
-
I am back from dinner at El Quijote on West 23rd Street and NEW GIRL IN TOWN at the Irish Rep. my adopted son Joshie dd the orchestrations for the 5-piece band and the cast of 10 acqutted themselves quite marvelously. Margaret Robinson, who played Anna Christy, was a high school girl in Albany when she was in the production, recording, and videotaping of A TALE OF CINDERELLA that I orchestrated for the New York State theatre Institute. She has become a very fine actress. My friend Amber Stone, who was in the Goodspeed WHERE'S CHARLEY?, was a very funny whore. The production was really quite a delight.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Good Vibes for our DR MBarnum! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Watching the second part of the "Anna Karenina" mini-series from PBS. Hate the script. It dumbs the novel down a little too much. Love the actors. That actually makes it all the more frustrating.

And it worked well without "Ain't No Flies on Me"? That was one of my favorites in the original score.

Good Evening!
Well... I rode the T for the first time. :)
-
Vibes for DR MBarnum - I wish they'd waited until Monday morning to call you. The waiting is awful.
-
Let's see - I ate pasta papa at ten-thirty. I didn't finish all of it, and I had nothing else - no bread, no salad. Since then I've eaten a handful of pretzels and a thing of Flicks. So, I think I'm well under 1000 calories so I should probably eat something else - what is the question and the question is what.
-
Although, since I ended up having two very generous scoops of ice cream at Toscanini's Ice Cream (http://www.tosci.com), I probably should have ridden my bike there and back.
...But I guess I'll ride it there and back tomorrow. ;) Just soooo many flavors to try!

DR Jose - I love Boston. Haven't been there in a long time, but I've enjoyed every visit - at age 13 with my parents, in 1978 for a library conference, and in 1981 with my then-new husband Richard. Have some fried clams for me!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TCB!!!
Cilla, how nice to see you posting! Is everything okay?
Thanks, TCB, everything is fine. With the accident and recovering this summer I missed a lot of work. when I don't work we make no money. So the past few weeks we have been working about three times more than usual just to try to catch up. It's really been nonstop. I'm very thankful that I have the business and the work to do, but it is tiring and I've just not been posting.

This is my first visit back since 1994!
When we lived in New London, CT, we would come up regularly to visit relatives here, usually just for a quick weekend. We would usually just hang out around Boston Common - especially a magic and novelty shop which I think is long gone.
Tomorrow, I plan to spend some more time in Cambridge, ride along the Charles River and through the MIT and Harvard campuses. Sunday I may be seeing my godparents - I haven't seen them since 1992 (1990?). And then Monday will be a museum day, I hope. And then it's off to Seattle Monday night.
-
This week was very productive but crazy. I actually completely forgot to go to band and forgot to do several other things I promised to do. But I got a lot of work done. I'll be working this weekend, but doing some other things too
-
DR Cillaliz - I hope you're able to get caught up, and able to treat yourself to a little rest and relaxation.

DR Laura - Is it possible that you just made "Basil Chicken"? ;)
-
And...
I believe the day has caught up with me.
Goodnight.
-
That could be, Jose.
-
DR Cillaliz - I hope you're able to get caught up, and able to treat yourself to a little rest and relaxation.
Thanks. We're getting there. Tomorrow there is a really cool outdoor sculpture walk. I got my tiki cat on it a few years ago. don't expect to buy anything this year, but one never knows. The weather should be beautiful, so it will be nice
-
And on top of everything else, DR Jane has inspired me to start working on my landscaping. They are doing the drawings for a wall and now they may do a drain to get the water away from my house. I guess they were in the yard yesterday looking around. No wonder the cats were freaked out when I came home
-
I ate some not particularly wonderful strawberries. I had two tiny chicken tenders and a teeny-tiny thing of creamed spinach. All good.
-
Finished "Anna Karenina." A big mess, with great acting and an overly simplistic script. Now it's "Robin Hood" with Errol Flynn. Fun.
-
Welcome forty-seven GUESTS. Nice of you to all come back after your hiatus. Next hiatus perhaps the door won't be quite as open, if you get my meaning :) Or, as Glenn Close so aptly said, "We will NOT be ignored."
-
Good Evening!
Well... I rode the T for the first time. :)
so is that a euphemism?

Back from the very first showing of Maitland and Murphy Productions short film THE EXIT.
Murphy (Tom) is my friend Marge's son and he is a budding film maker. He says that my years of exposing him to a wide variety of vintage motion pictures when he was a kid....EARTH VS THE SPIDER and FLOWER DRUM SONG are two of his favorite films...are what inspired him to become a film maker (I am so proud!). He and his production partner worked for a year on this film and it was great fun seeing it...even if I didn't understand it. Of course I have not understood any of their films...all very dark and artsy-ish. I asked them when they would be making a film where people didn't get murdered. :D
Their last film won some awards at film festivals, so I am hoping this one will, as well. It is certainly very well made and the cast was excellent.
Actually, the film that they cast me in a few years ago didn't have any murders, now that I think about it. It did have Jesus in it, however...but I still didn't understand it. I might ad that I did get raves for my performance as "Conservative middle-aged man." It is on Youtube somewhere, but I have no recollection of what the title is.
