Post by: bk on April 19, 2019, 12:09:08 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of Passover, and now it is time for you to post until the Passover cows come home for Good Friday.

That makes sense.  In my place, Neve's litterbox is on the second floor and my bedroom is on the third floor.

I am not one to go to comedy shows.  I much prefer a funny play anytime.
Title: Re: PASSOVER, GOOD FRIDAY, AND ROCK CANDY

I agree.  Comics are usually subjective in their humor.

Speaking of comedy, or in this case unfunny comedy, Second Story Rep who did THE LAST STARFIGHTER last year is doing BOEING BOEING as their next production.  NOT FUNNY!

The opener was Scott Losse, the emcee was Thomas Nichols, and he headliner was Drew Dunn.  I'd never heard of any of them.

I love this show!  I played Tim Allgood about 25 years ago.  Next season, Harlequin Productions (https://harlequinproductions.org/next-season/) is going to do it.  I can't wait to see that!

Nope.  I was watching Stephen Colbert, and now I'm watching Seth Meyers.  Pete Buttigieg is one of Seth's guests.  And this episode is a special 90-minute episode.

I have a question for those of you who don't drink alcohol, Bruce, TCB, anyone else?  When you go out to dinner with friends do you mind if they want drinks first & maybe an appetizer before ordering dinner?

Title: Re: PASSOVER, GOOD FRIDAY, AND ROCK CANDY
Post by: Jane on April 19, 2019, 09:53:18 AM
Even if I am not drinking I am fine with having water or something non-alcoholic while we visit.  If I order wine with dinner I still want it to come first as I only drink white wine & it is usually served too cold.  I normally just sip a little bit until it gets closer to room temperature.

I am asking as these friends we had dinner with last night always want to order quickly.  Last night, because we had to be someplace after dinner, they were ready to order as soon as we sat down since they had read the menu online.  The food came fairly quickly & I never had time to finish my glass of wine.  I could have if I had gulped the last of it down, which I have been known to do but decided I didn't want to before walking to the theater.

The phone rang at eight - robo call, not that I picked it up.  Two people texted at eight-thirty - ding, ding, ding - answered those.  Someone called my cell at nine.  Finally fell back asleep only to be awakened by the doorbell - some guy who gave me a CD to hear who keeps showing up unannounced.  I've avoided him but decided to deal with it today.  I told him I enjoyed the CD.  He asked if I could help him with distribution - I said no, not our thing, goodbye.  He didn't want to hear that, but I repeated it three times and he finally left.

I just received a strange call.  Caller ID said it was from a Home Service and showed an 800 number.  I expected it might be a scam when I answered but I can't figure out was the scam is.  It was a recorded message saying something, not sure what it was, is ready for me to pick up at my doctor's office.  That's it.

Did the message say that you need to pick up something "at your doctor's office"?  Or did it mention your name and your doctor's name?  If it wasn't specific to you, then it's probably spam and I wouldn't worry about it.  You could also call your doctor's office directly and NOT that 800 number, and see what they say.

Jane, I've known people who rush through everything they do. One woman I knew wanted to get up and leave the restaurant the moment she finished eating! They are not pleasant companions.

Neither BK nor I drink and yet we've had many meals where we chatted for quite some time before ordering. For me, it would depend on how long they wanted to visit before ordering--and how sloshed they got.

Talking about strange things happening (we were, weren't we?), how about this puzzler:

A week or so ago I purchased a box of oatmeal-coconut cookies, which sounded tasty. The box had a cardboard zipper on it, which you pull to open. I opened it to find two plastic trays of cookies, each wrapped and sealed in plastic. EXCEPT, the top tray had been opened and several of the cookies missing! I didn't keep the box so I can't really check, but I keep wondering if there's a way to somehow open the box without undoing the zipper. Otherwise, the theft must have occurred at the factory. I tried the untampered with cookies and didn't much care for them and don't plan to buy them again, but it has left me wondering.

I'm also missing two items of little importance--an old sweater and my canvas laundry bag. These are not items someone would likely steal. I seldom lose anything, so it's another puzzler. I imagine they'll turn up one day when I least expect it. Oh, THERE it is!

I would say that is strange.  Maybe it was a machine that had a glitz and didn't put all of the cookies in.  Or Lucy & Ethel were in charge of filling the boxes.

I like your Lucy and Ethel explanation, except that the plastic surrounding the tray was clearly ripped. Maybe it was Lucy or Ethel's job to put the sealed trays into the box.

I would say that is strange.  Maybe it was a machine that had a glitz and didn't put all of the cookies in.  Or Lucy & Ethel were in charge of filling the boxes.

Did you take them back for a refund?  Even if you tasted the untampered cookies, you should get your money back.

Lots of pollen here this season because we had far more rain than usual this winter. Lots of people suffering.

Allergy vibes for all!

I'm not sure where I bought them. I could see if I still have the receipt. If I do I may mention it to the store manager just because they should know. And I wouldn't mind getting my money back, either.

I like your Lucy and Ethel explanation, except that the plastic surrounding the tray was clearly ripped. Maybe it was Lucy or Ethel's job to put the sealed trays into the box.

It doesn't bother me.  If I'm with friends and am not rushed, why would I be bothered by sitting and chatting with friends? :)

That's what I am trying to figure out-lol

Jane, I've known people who rush through everything they do. One woman I knew wanted to get up and leave the restaurant the moment she finished eating! They are not pleasant companions.

Neither BK nor I drink and yet we've had many meals where we chatted for quite some time before ordering. For me, it would depend on how long they wanted to visit before ordering--and how sloshed they got.

It also would depend on how busy the restaurant was.  If there was no one else waiting for the table I would be more  leisurely than if there were

Both to be considerate of those waiting and for the sake of the server who depends on table turnover for tips

When I lunched with Julie Kirgo the other day, she said the most wonderful thing to me - she said that she loved GEE more than anything I've written.  She's a tough cookie and it made me feel really good.  It's a chore to get people to actually take a chance on a book.  I wish that it weren't so - when I do the Facebook promo stuff, 150 people will "like" and "heart" the posts and say congrats and back pat - in fact, they do everything BUT read the book.  And then you see the tripe that gets made into films and I just wish I knew how to get these in the hands of people who could do that - GEE would, I think, make a stunning movie with incredible roles for two women.  Easy to adapt.  I feel the same about the Adriana books, such naturals for a series on something like Netflix.  Alas, I suppose all one can do is try to do their best and move along.  But I read through all the nice reviews on Amazon, many of which came from you dear readers, and I loved reading them, and TCB's was very meaningful to me on many levels.  Here it is.  Several dear readers did not go anywhere near this book and I'm sad about that.  I'm very proud of it.  Anyway:

"I must confess that I am a huge Bruce Kimmel fan. Is there anything this man can’t do? He is an actor, a producer, a director, a composer, a singer (Guy Haines), a playwright, and a music producer. And that is just the tip of the iceberg. In addition to all the above, Kimmel is the author of 17 previous books. And now he has written book number eighteen – GEE.

GEE may very well be the finest book Kimmel has written, to date. It is a story of not one, but two willful and headstrong women. Both “very peculiar girls.” One, GEE (yes, all capitals) is born in the early days of the 20th century; the other, Peyton, is starting life in the 21st century. The first woman we watch living her life, her 94 years of life, through the unfolding decades of America. From the two great wars and the Depression, through JFK and 9/11; GEE experiences all the happiness and all the heartbreak of life. Peyton, at seventeen is truly just beginning to fully experience the world.

Kimmel has carefully and lovingly crafted the stories of these two female characters. Part one tells the story of GEE, and Part two belongs to Peyton. Kimmel’s writing is superb. Once you start reading this book you will find it impossible to put down. How can these two women be so different, and yet, so much alike? You truly won’t want this book to end. I highly recommend this book to everyone. A great read."
