Well, you've read the notes, the notes were easy and had information about mole removal, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they've received an e-mail about easy mole reMOOval.

Good morning, all! I am going to take another bag of books down to Toyland this morning.

I am still undecided on the air conditioner situation, so perhaps I will take a trip to 14th Street and PC Richard after I drop off the books. There's also the Home Depot on 23rd on the way. We'll see.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  Vibes to all in need this morning!  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Enjoy your Sunday.
Good morning, all.
Vibes for those who need 'em.
And, yes, first thing this morning, "Follies" is on the stereo. And everything is possible and nothing makes sense, which means it must be pretty darn OK.
People are so funny.  I was listening to the cast album of Zorba, seeing if that was something I might want to revisit like we did for Follies.  I had the original CD with the green cover and hearing it I was actually shocked at the ineptitude of the mix - horrifying.  Then I read that the Angel Broadway redo was much better so I bought that - it's actually worse.  I will now try to license it because I suspect we can work some magic - it certainly wouldn't be hard to improve it at least 1000% and I really like the score.  We shall see.
To echo George, I would love to get me some Kimmel-ized Zorba.
Since Capitol Records has their mixing problems, perhaps FIORELLO is another needing a retake; I've always disliked that album, and I'd guess the orchestrations sound better than they do on the recording.Give me TENDERLOIN any day!
I can't believe that NBC News just ruined the swimming final for me.  I can understand the other networks not caring, but NBC??
NBC news or the NBC Olympics coverage ruined it before they showed it?
The whole thing is confusing because obviously most everything NBC shows has already happened.
I think it would be okay for the news to show it. But to say beforehand that they are going to mention the results in case anybody is going to watch the evening Olympics coverage.
I am curious, since it was a Saturday did NBC show any of the swimming finals during the day or did they wait till primetime?
I was actually a bit surprised that the Canadian channel, CTV, in their primetime coverage sort of gave some things away. Sort of like what DR RonP was describing. They would sort of set the stage and describe it before showing it.  They had already shown everything live. I guess it's hard to know whether to just show the primetime coverage as if the people hadn't watched all day. Or whether to just explain what happened and show it.
And now I must needs log off for a bit so I can give my full attention to the re-installation of the drivers for a nice printer that I really really like, but this has to be the third time I've had to do this because the stuff just seems to get corrupted after a year or two.  I'm still on Windows Vista, which probably contributes to the problemo.  Back in a while.
The only part of the Olympic coverage I saw last night, was the interview with the winner of one of the Men's swimming rounds....who was very ungracious in his comments......and the interview with  Michael Phelps who was not pleased to be in 4th place OR talking to the interviewer.
OH and  couple of minutes of Women's Beach Volleyball.....WHY IS THIS AN OLYMPIC SPORT?  What's next - Baton Twirling?
This was Brian Williams and the NBC Nightly News.  I much prefer ABC News, but I figured that they would have no qualms about mentioning a swimming race that had already taken place.  I just assumed (incorrectly) that NBC would not want to ruin their ratings by giving away the winner's name.
Thank you, DR JRand61. Electricity has never been one of the areas of home repair I am remotely good at! I'm assuming it can go into the socket where the dead air conditioner is currently plugged. And that reminds me I need to find an adaptor to take with my Macbook to Dublin. Where oh where?
Reinstalled the latest printer drivers, but didn't fix a damned thing.  Something has gotten hosed as far as the computer seeing the network printer via Ethernet, and I've troubleshooted (troubleshot?) up the kazoo.  Fortunately, everything works fine via USB.  I just won't be able to print via the network, by Ethernet or wireless.
Sunday afternoon greetings!  It's been a delightful Sunday with Rob and Mary Linda.  We met at Starbucks near their church before the 10:30am service.  After church we dropped my car off here at home and went to the local Greek church for lunch.  Watched some dancing until it got too hot under the tent, then we came back here to visit for a while.  They've headed home and I'm watching the Olympics.
By the way, Rob says NBC stands for Neurotic Boring Chatter...
Well......I looked one more place.....and yes, there it was my FOLLIES OBC LP.  Capitol Stereo SO-761.  Looks hardly played.
I got it when a man in my town who ran a mail order record establishment skipped out on his bills never to be heard/seen again. The landlords opened up the building and to begin with sold all LP's for $1.
I went twice.  The second time they were selling a grocery bag of LP's for $10.  The last two times I went, they were selling 100 LP's for $10.  And that is how I came into possession of FOLLIES.
The original paper sleeve is missing, but today, almost 20 years after I bought it, as I pulled it out of the cover, I noticed something else stuck inside....
An August, 1971, Playbill from the Wintergarden Theatre for....FOLLIES!
I shall now listen to the "before" sounds.
Wow - on EBAY the Follies LP shows up with the same number - and three different labels - my RED one, the orange Capitol label, and the purple old-fashioned Capitol label......so I don't know, I may have a later edition.
I thought I had a copy that opened from the bottom of the logo, sort of like the LOST HORIZON LP did,  with the LP in a trough, but I must have dreamed that.
Orange label, and it includes the 4-page liner notes insert.  Plain paper sleeve.  If were going to keep it, I'd put it into a "rice paper" (actually high-density poly) sleeve after cleaning it on the machine.  I shall clean it before playing, at any rate.
After all of my carping and procrastination - my LP was nearly unlistenable....for all of the reasons MR BK writes about.  I didn't even get through the second track....
I put in the new Kritzerland CD.....WOW!!!
I have a whole NEW appreciation for this show that I have never seen.....  I do have the London Cast revival....I guess....sort of a blue or silver CD - but this is a WOW.
Love the songs and the singers.
Just noticing that by the time my LP's previous owner saw the show, Ethel Barrymore Colt had been replaced by Terry Saunders.
OH and  couple of minutes of Women's Beach Volleyball.....WHY IS THIS AN OLYMPIC SPORT?  What's next - Baton Twirling?
Well I saw one heck of a ping pong match today.
Oh, I don't get any emails. I would never give a political campaign my email address.
I'm not dumping on you JR and I'm being picky, but the London production was not a revival. It was the first production in London and it wasn't done until 1987. There was a production in Manchester in 1985 but the London production was considered a big deal because of the revisions. It had book changes and some songs were cut and there were a couple of new numbers. It ran for a while but I don't think it was considered a success (I may be wrong). I saw it and was not happy about the book changes and while Country House and Ah, But Underneath are good numbers they aren't great numbers (IMHO) and didn't work well (although the night we saw the show Miss Diana Rigg sang Ah, But Underneath to me, quite an amazing moment). I don't like Make the Most of Your Music at all and it's a terrible number for Ben to to end with (again, IMHO).
And now off to unpack from an impromptu weekend trip to Long Island.
And now for something completely different...
I was watching "Cash Cab" a little earlier today and they showed a commercial where you (or just about anyone) can get a loan for up to $5,000 in a day!  HOWEVER...and this is a BIG HOWEVER...here are the terms:  "The APR for a typical loan of $5,000 is 116.73% with 84 monthly payments of $486.56." (I paused the hi-def broadcast so that I could write it down exactly.)
???
An APR of 116.73%??  84 monthly payments of $486.56??  That means you would end up paying $40,871.04 over seven years for a $5,000 loan!
WTF??
People are so funny.  I was listening to the cast album of Zorba, seeing if that was something I might want to revisit like we did for Follies.  I had the original CD with the green cover and hearing it I was actually shocked at the ineptitude of the mix - horrifying.  Then I read that the Angel Broadway redo was much better so I bought that - it's actually worse.  I will now try to license it because I suspect we can work some magic - it certainly wouldn't be hard to improve it at least 1000% and I really like the score.  We shall see.
To echo George, I would love to get me some Kimmel-ized Zorba.
How about doing Funny Girl? I would love to hear that Overture Kimmel-ized if the tracks still exist.
My mother, who was not a well woman and neither particularly successful as a homemaker or a parent, had a penchant for avoiding housework as much as possible. Between 1965 and 1968, whenever I was home from college, she would usually plan the weekend when I was to return to college to be out of town - my father's mother in Kentucky, her sister Lois in Columbus - so she had an excuse to do nothing to help me get ready to go back to school. My warmest memories, sadly, are of my Aunt Jenny coming over to wash all my accumulated laundry and to iron my shirts and trousers so I could go back to school. She never said a word about the fact that my mother was a lazy, narcissistic shit, and she always had the excuse that she knew by the time my parents got back, I had to leave and I couldn't leave unprepared. Her death tears my heart out that I now can never tell her how much I appreciated and loved her for doing that.
On a funny side, when she and my mother and the neighbor Jean were on a bowling team, Jenny was practicing her swing one day at home and put a huge hole in the living room wall. She was also a voracious hearts player and on weekends when I was home from college, she, my mother, my cousins, and I would play hearts for hours. I will miss her.
I am sorry to hear that. You mention in postings that you were going to Toyland and was under the assumption that meant the project was still on. I didn't remember that it was dead if had been mentioned. All that work you put into it.
The plug was pulled over a year ago. i have no idea what the Pachard Humanities Institute will do with the files they own, but it's their headache now. I also have no idea if the recording will ever be released. I am no longer their employee.
I am sorry to hear that. You mention in postings that you were going to Toyland and was under the assumption that meant the project was still on. I didn't remember that it was dead if had been mentioned. All that work you put into it.
What a shame I would love to have had the recording. It is a piece of American  theater history
I explained a couple of days ago that the office, which is staying in my hands, will always be Toyland to me.
Well, I got about seven pages of notes and about three sections of the paper fairly underway. Think that's it for me tonight. Night, all.
My mother, who was not a well woman and neither particularly successful as a homemaker or a parent, had a penchant for avoiding housework as much as possible. Between 1965 and 1968, whenever I was home from college, she would usually plan the weekend when I was to return to college to be out of town - my father's mother in Kentucky, her sister Lois in Columbus - so she had an excuse to do nothing to help me get ready to go back to school. My warmest memories, sadly, are of my Aunt Jenny coming over to wash all my accumulated laundry and to iron my shirts and trousers so I could go back to school. She never said a word about the fact that my mother was a lazy, narcissistic shit, and she always had the excuse that she knew by the time my parents got back, I had to leave and I couldn't leave unprepared. Her death tears my heart out that I now can never tell her how much I appreciated and loved her for doing that.
On a funny side, when she and my mother and the neighbor Jean were on a bowling team, Jenny was practicing her swing one day at home and put a huge hole in the living room wall. She was also a voracious hearts player and on weekends when I was home from college, she, my mother, my cousins, and I would play hearts for hours. I will miss her.
She sounds like a fabulous person and so full of life.   I'm sure she knew how much you loved her, Elmore.  Aunts just know such things.
As for yesterday's wedding.... In a word: Beautiful.
There was a light drizzle during most of the ceremony, but as the grooms placed the rings on each other's fingers, the sun broke through the clouds, and the drizzle started to slow down. *Doug Wright made a great comment about the rain, something along the following: "It's appropriate for our people that it is raining today. If Diana Ross can keep singing in the rain in Central Park, so can we." :)
The reception was wonderful, and when it came time for the toasts and entertainment portion of the evening, there were lots of laughter and tears... and more laughter. I had rehearsed with a few of the "special guests" here in NYC on Thursday night, but, otherwise, it was kind of like an open call audition. But what an open call! Laura Osnes, Andy Mientus, Melissa van der Schyff, Jenny Latimer and Julia Murney.
And then came the dancing! And the cocktails! And the wish lanterns! And the video guest book in the yurt!
I did take some pictures both with my iPhone and my regular camera. Alas, it looks like I left my regular camera at the house. Hopefully, it will turn up as they de-nuptialize their house over the next few days.
But again... Beautiful.
This coming week will be spent prepping for my upcoming two week workshop in Palo Alto, as well as catching up/seeing some shows. I'm seeing Into the Woods tomorrow, Dogfight on Wednesday, and I think I'm also squeezing in End of the Rainbow, C*ck and another viewing of Once.
Took a nice long walk.  I've been reading this book about the West Side Story film with stories told by a bunch of the dancers.  It's fun, in a way, but very amateurishly done, with tons of really inane typos that even a ten-year-old would have caught.  Mart Crowley becomes Mark, Arthur Laurents becomes Arthur Lawrence, some titles are in italics, some aren't, frequently in the same sentence.  Lots of repetition within the stories so obviously there was no editor.
Well, it's time for me to get ready for tonight's performance of "Titus Andronicus."  We didn't have a matinee and won't next Sunday, either.  Only on our last Sunday will there be a matinee.  Anyway, it's going to be a long night and hopefully we get an audience.
Be back later!
Tonight, we had a small audience, but a great show.  The best part was that the projector, which has been overheating and turning itself off, didn't.  Whew!  Marko adjusted the resolution to econo-mode, which made the projections a little darker, but as long as it works, the slides were good enough for our director.  Now we have three days off.
