Well, you've read the notes, the notes were cracked, and now it is time for you to post until the cracked cows come home - they're currently eating cracked crab and playing Yahtzee.
-
And the word of the day is: MYRMIDON!
-
And now - Dino at the piano.
-
Funny, yesterday and a few days before that we got to exactly 391 postings, but couldn't make the simple feat of nine more posts. Why? WUSSBURGERS, that's why.

Welcome five GUESTS!

Well some of us were still recovering from the visuals of your myrmidon Arianna in Condom Couture.

ASK BK:
When films like The Faculty appear on my digital cable service as nocharge-on Demand shows, do you see $$$ associated with every viewing, or does Comcast just kick in a generic monthly licensing fee for all films that gets divvied up somehow?
der Brucer
-
I was listening to The Manhattan Transfer sing "Snootie Little Cutie" from their TV show in the 1970s! Someone has a fansite for Laurel Massé (founding member and original soprano) and he posts videos of their 4-episode summer replacement TV show and I'm making audio recordings of them! That's my
excuse story. ;D

I'm sure it's an overall fee that gets divided up.

Lifted from a God Hates Fags (http://www.lovegodsway.org/GayBands) site,:
"Suffering is one very long moment. We cannot divide it by seasons. We can only record its moods, and chronicle their return. With us time itself does not progress. It revolves. It seems to circle round one centre of pain."
--Oscar Wilde (reformed homosexual)
So What is This About?
One of the most dangerous ways homosexuality invades family life is through popular music. Parents should keep careful watch over their children's listening habits, especially in this Internet Age of MP3 piracy.
Bands to watch out for
The Spores
Scissor Sisters
Rufus Wainwright

Bjork

When did Oscar Wilde reform?
Frank Sinatra!!!!!!!!!!!

And if you go to the Safe Bands (http://www.lovegodsway.org/SafeBands) link, Cyndi Lauper is considered safe! Didn't she have the biggest hit ever about masterbation?? Granted, that's not about homosexuality, but still!!
;)
-
Lifted from a God Hates Fags (http://www.lovegodsway.org/GayBands) site,:When did Oscar Wilde reform?
Frank Sinatra!!!!!!!!!!!
And Kansas? GHF obviously doesn't consult the Wikipedia:
Kansas began to fall apart in the early 1980s. Kerry Livgren became a born-again Christian, and this was reflected in his lyrics on the next three albums, beginning with Audio-Visions (#26). Dave Hope soon converted to Christianity as well, and it became obvious to Walsh that Kansas was moving in a different creative direction. Walsh was replaced by vocalist John Elefante, also a born-again Christian, who along with his brother Dino, later became known for producing albums for Christian rock bands Petra, Bride, Rick Cua, and Guardian.
The record generated the band's first top twenty hit in several years with "Play the Game Tonight" (#17), and the album's overtly Christian lyrics attracted an entirely new audience of evangelical Christians, who used lyrics from the record in religious tracts handed out after Kansas concerts.
Kerry Livgren was holding some of his best material back due to more explicit Christian content, intending to save them for his second solo album... etc...

So DR CILLA LIZ will soon be making her Broadway debut!!
Someone associated with some associated with that show wrote a book called AFTERNOONS WITH LUCY that I liked.
-
Bits of snow today, but I am off on the errand rounds.
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... I guess my circadian rhythms must be in "early to bed, early to rise" mode. -Well, more like "earlier to bed, earlier to rise". In any case...
-
DR Cillaliz - Wear something white... or hot pink!
;D
-
WHAT?!?!?!?
They just showed a close up of Kelly Ripa's arm pit... freshly shaved...
WHY!?!?!?!?!
-
Good Morning, DR elmore.
-
Good Morning, DR Ben.
-
OOOHH!!!!
I won the lottery last night! :)
-Just the Pick Three, and on the "box", but still, it's a win!
-
Good morning, all! And a special good morning and thanks to DR Jose, who came over yesterday to help me with my MySpace page and then went home and started his own! Good for you. Yes, it was a surprise this morning.
I have coffee at 11 with my friend John Margulis, and then an afternoon finishing Act Two of ANNIE GET YOUR GUN.
BK, I'm glad you and Mr Jones spoke. He's a good fellow.
-
Good morning, all! And a special good morning and thanks to DR Jose, who came over yesterday to help me with my MySpace page and then went home and started his own! Good for you. Yes, it was a surprise this morning.
Well... Actually... I had forgotten that I had set up a page a while ago, I had just not put anything on/it until last night. But, yes, you were my inspiration.
-
Hmm... To IKEA or not to IKEA?... Hmm...
-
Wednesday morning greetings! It was a little slippery on the roadways this morning, but I go to work with no problems.
Funny, yesterday and a few days before that we got to exactly 391 postings, but couldn't make the simple feat of nine more posts. Why? WUSSBURGERS, that's why.
Guilty as charged, BK! Going out to live entertainment events 2 weeknights in a row really puts a dent in my time for visiting here. The concert last night at Miami University was excellent - Men's Glee Club and Cantus (http://www.cantusonline.org). It was past my bedtime when we got home.
-
Hmm... To IKEA or not to IKEA?... Hmm...
DR Jose,
When an item appears on the IKEA website and says that you have to buy it from the store, but then you check the local store's inventory and it's not in stock, are you S.O.L. or will they order it for you? If they order it, do you then have to pay their shipping charges?
-
But, yes, you were my inspiration.
You are but one of sooooo many! :)
-
DR Cillaliz, I haven't been on stage for a theatrical production, but I love it when I can sit on stage with an orchestra. Some halls, like the one in Toronto, are set up like that. I love to be able to see the conductor's face and read over the shoulders of the musicians!
-
DR Jose, thanks for the HGO FAUST production from Playbill. Bill Burden is such a good guy! I got to know him when he sang the Doctor on the complete MOST HAPPY FELLA recording with Emily Loesser. I had seen him at City Opera and recommended him for the role. His beautiful (vocal and visually) wife Carol played Dory in the Utah production of GREENWILLOW that I worked on. Bill came to the opening night performance. He just played Candide at the Paris Opera with my friend Kim Criswell.
How many names can I drop in one paragraph??????
-
I'm getting very frustrated with someone at the tax office who is a constant "Tag you're it" specialist, sending an email for something and assuming it's been completely passed on to someone else (for example, me), and not even bothering trying to get the info to make the assignment possible. This is someone new to our office, but who has been with the office we merged with for years and years - I'm amazed this has been acceptable, unless it's just a matter of this person testing what can be gotten away with in our new combined office.

And one for myrmidon

Newman's State of the Union:
For the Randy Newman fans out there, the NY Times published the lyrics to one of his new songs today. (I've heard it several times recently as he kept rewriting it.) It's going to be released on iTunes soon. You just have to imagine his delivery:
http://snipurl.com/RandyN
-
Oh---you might have to register with the Times to go to that link, so I'll just post the lyrics:
A Few Words in Defense of Our Country
By Randy Newman
I’d like to say a few words
In defense of our country
Whose people aren’t bad nor are they mean
Now the leaders we have
While they’re the worst that we’ve had
Are hardly the worst this poor world has seen
Let’s turn history’s pages, shall we?
Take the Caesars for example
Why within the first few of them
They had split Gaul into three parts
Fed the Christians to the lions
And burned down the City
And one of ’em
Appointed his own horse Consul of the Empire
That’s like vice president or something
That’s not a very good example, is it?
But wait, here’s one, the Spanish Inquisition
They put people in a terrible position
I don’t even like to think about it
Well, sometimes I like to think about it
Just a few words in defense of our country
Whose time at the top
Could be coming to an end
Now we don’t want their love
And respect at this point is pretty much out of the question
But in times like these
We sure could use a friend
Hitler. Stalin.
Men who need no introduction
King Leopold of Belgium. That’s right.
Everyone thinks he’s so great
Well he owned The Congo
He tore it up too
He took the diamonds, he took the gold
He took the silver
Know what he left them with?
Malaria
A president once said,
“The only thing we have to fear is fear itself”
Now it seems like we’re supposed to be afraid
It’s patriotic in fact and color coded
And what are we supposed to be afraid of?
Why, of being afraid
That’s what terror means, doesn’t it?
That’s what it used to mean
The end of an empire is messy at best
And this empire is ending
Like all the rest
Like the Spanish Armada adrift on the sea
We’re adrift in the land of the brave
And the home of the free
Goodbye. Goodbye. Goodbye.

DR Jose,
When an item appears on the IKEA website and says that you have to buy it from the store, but then you check the local store's inventory and it's not in stock, are you S.O.L. or will they order it for you? If they order it, do you then have to pay their shipping charges?
You're basically S.O.L. if it's a "standard stock" item - which is any item that is listed on the website as "Not Available from the web site". You just have to wait for IKEA to get their next shipment in. They do not special order items to be sent to the store. -Unless it's one of their higher-end items - couches, cabinetry, applances, etc. Thankfully, they get things shipped to their stores on a regular basis, although I have talked to some friends who have waited weeks, even months for a something to come back in stock. Those boats from Sweden can take a while sometimes.
-
Off to work on The Brain.
Goodbye. Goodbye. Goodbye.
-
You just have to wait for IKEA to get their next shipment in. They do not special order items to be sent to the store.
Would they hold one for you if it comes in on one of their shipments?
-
Would they hold one for you if it comes in on one of their shipments?
Yes, you can be put on the list. They will call you when the item comes back in stock, and then you have a certain amount of time to come in and pick them up.
-
OK... Time to take care of some things around the apartment... and possibly head to IKEA... So...

Question for BK:
What performer, of whom you've never had the opportunity to see live on stage, do you most wish you could have seen in either a play, musical or concert?
-
I left just before Jose said Hello so I'm now saying hello back. And hello to all you people out there in the dark.
I don't think I will ever be around to round off a page count. Not when it's 3am in New York. If I'm up at 3am then somethin' ain't right somewhere.
-
Maybe this has been posted before, but since we were talking about magic recently, this is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen:

FJL - My seat at Curtains is Center Orchestra Row H seat 111. Which I believe is closer to house left than house right
-
Cilla - great. If I can get myself an orchestra aisle seat for that night (I'll try for your side of the theater), it'll be just like I'm going with you, only separate. Or something like that. :)
-
Good morning!
Beautiful winter morning. Blue sky with wispy clouds and cold, but it's supposed to get into the 50s today. So, overall, a nice day!
-
[sigh] Another two hours of IDOL auditions tonight which I may not watch in toto. THE KNIGHTS OF PROSPERITY is on, and both MEDIUM and CSI: NY have new episodes tonight.
The IDOL show is NYC-based which might allow for a greater degree of talent (and talent-free, too, I assume).
-
I'll finish my second go-round with THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA this afternoon but haven't decided what else I'll watch.
I did record MERRY ANDREW from TCM this morning. I've never seen this all the way through, so that may take the remainder of my afternoon.
-
Cilla - great. If I can get myself an orchestra aisle seat for that night (I'll try for your side of the theater), it'll be just like I'm going with you, only separate. Or something like that. :)
Cool beans! The more the merrier.
-
Heading down now to read more HARRY POTTER and then start on preparing lunch.
WBBL.
-
I should get busy. I just remembered something I need to get done this morning
-
A true myrmidon is impossible to find.
-
It's another gorgeous day in Oakland CA.
-
I have a "current favorite" (thankfully) in the new "American Idol":
He's Sundance Head...and they've NEVER had a voice like his in the competition.
Also, there's also Melinda Doolittle, a woman who has been singing backup all her life. She's terrific...if obviously nervous as hell. They put her through telling her to believe in herself!
-
Isn't "Myrmidon" an alternate spelling for the godfather of meerkats?
-
Due to lack of anything interesting on the networks at 9 p.m., I took a chance and watched "Dirt".
Boy! Am I glad! This is a terrific show (on F/X). Courtney Cox is wonderful and the rest of the cast pretty darned great. It's good to see a calculating, conniving, bitter but ruthless attractive power-hungry woman heading up a TV show again.
It's been so long since Alexis Carrington said goodbye.
-
Happy 90th Birthday to Ernest Borgnine, one-time husband to Ethel Myrmidon.
Considering how quickly that marriage ended, "one-time husband" sounds about right!
-
And the word of the day is: MYRMIDON!
During my college days, there was many a MYRMIDON to nearly as many political causes living IN MY DORM.
-
I need new shoes.
I have literally worn holes in the soles of my shoes, from being on my feet all day.

ASK BK DAY QUESTION
When you rereleased Subways Are For Sleeping; the bonus tracks consisted of demos written for the show. Did you try to get the rights to the McGuire Sisters recording of the show as they sung some of the songs that were dropped from the show?
No, we never tried - the album is owned by Universal and they, at the time and even now, weren't licensing anything to anyone.
-
Question for BK:
What performer, of whom you've never had the opportunity to see live on stage, do you most wish you could have seen in either a play, musical or concert?
I've seen some greats, but one of my great regrets is having had tickets to see I Do! I Do! with Mary Martin and Robert Preston, and getting into the city too late (traffic) and missing the show. I would love to have seen Frank Sinatra in his heyday. I would have loved to have seen Jack Benny's live show. And just because it's so legendary, Laurette Taylor in The Glass Menagerie. And many, many others.
-
Universal also messed up the tracking and track numbers on the McGuire Sisters 3 CD set I own, too.
-
I like the Randy Newman lyrics - pure Randy all the way. Is this a new album or strictly an iTunes thing?
-
What did Jose do for elmore's myspace page, and should we blame him?
-
Page Three McGuire Sisters Dance.
Those gals are great!

My question for ASK BK day:
Have you ever been to the West Indies or the Bahamas?

My question for ASK BK day:
Have you ever been to the West Indies or the Bahamas?
While I've been all over the US, the only place outside of the US that I've visited is Canada. Isn't that ridiculous?
-
I see Jose has help elmore set up a music page. I suppose I should do one for Kritzerland - maybe Jose can help?
And I have one word for elmore - I'll spell it backwards (he'll know what I mean)
ABIT???

Maybe this has been posted before, but since we were talking about magic recently, this is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen:
http://snipurl.com/changeisgood (http://snipurl.com/changeisgood)
This was from "America's Got Talent." And they were VERY good! The problem that the British judge had (and I totally agreed) was that the couple said that they had a 90 minute act, but each week they came back and did the exact same thing! Everyone else did something new each week...for good or bad. This couple only had different costumes/wigs each week, but they performed the exact same 90 seconds of their 90 minute act. It got boring (as incredible as it was) after seeing it over and over and over and over. :-\
-
My space on MYSPACE is empty as well. It can be a very frustrating place to try to fix or work on....or maybe that is just if you are of a certain age....as they used to say.
-
While I've been all over the US, the only place outside of the US that I've visited is Canada. Isn't that ridiculous?
Get thee to Travelocity! 8)

America's Got Talent!! ?? So why don't we see too much of it on television?
-
I like the Randy Newman lyrics - pure Randy all the way. Is this a new album or strictly an iTunes thing?
He has almost enough material for another album. When I saw him in November, he was throwing around the idea of going into the studio in January, but I don't think anything has happened. I need to write his manager today so I'll ask.
-
Re: last night's AMERICAN IDOL
I like it so much better when they show the best people (and the good people) vs seeing the bad people.
My favorite last night was the back-up singer. I thought she was really sweet. ANd she has a great voice.
I also liked this blonde girl who randy did not like (he said she would be out in the first round).
And i too was a bit surprised they did not take the male cheerleader.
-
And re: last night's VERONICA MARS.
spoilers

I liked the show and am so happy it is back. I think the dean mystery should be interesting. I love seeing more of mac and i really liked her new love interest. I'm not sure the whole monkey escapade took that much effort. But unlike DR MattH i was thrilled when veronica showed up at logan's door. I like piz alright. But i really like LOVE (logan and veronica) together. I was not expecting that!
-
Get thee to Travelocity! 8)
England's a good place to start---no language barrier!
And of course, you'll always have Paris, and François!

BK, that is surprising that you've never been to london. Or even Mexico or some other island. I have not travelled that much. But i have been to london, and a number of islands (including bahamas, barbados, st thomas ...).

I was actually just going to post about him. He's the guy who is bald and whose wife had the baby that day, right? I also really like him.
And melinda doolittle is the woman i described in my other post. I love her too.
Hey what do you know. Those were my two favorites. We agree! :)
-
America's Got Talent!! ?? So why don't we see too much of it on television?
They were on David Letterman (http://www.cbs.com/latenight/lateshow/live/index/php/903445.phtml?play=1) last week. They have a new cd out!
-
While I've been all over the US, the only place outside of the US that I've visited is Canada. Isn't that ridiculous?
Same here, BK. I've been to all but 8 states, but only border towns in Canada and Mexico internationally. When I whine about it, DH Richard reminds me that I could have spent time in Europe the way he did (in the Army).
-
I love Mexico, too...especially Oaxaca. We shot there after an earthquake, during Day of the Dead. It was beautiful and the people were so great!
-

JRand56, I got my ROCK AROUND THE CLOCK / DON'T KNOCK THE ROCK dvd yesterday! Woohoo! The first film I haven't seen since I was in High School, and the second one I have never seen!
I didn't order the TWIST AROUND THE CLOCK / DON'T KNOCK THE TWIST yet, but I may at a later date (I have both on DVDr).

England's a good place to start---no language barrier!

Another vote for England with a side trip to Ireland. I am sure DR CP would be a wonderful guide to all things British! ;D

Twist the night away, DR MBARNUM!!!

Or rather ROCK the night away.

But be warned, though the UK may sound very tempting: I normally don't have problems with such things, still even I found some relatively expensive hotel rooms in the UK tiny and claustrophobic.
-
Der Brucer would like for us to go to Italy some time.
-
And as much as I love my England, it's terribly expensive right now.
-
And one for Dollar
-
(versus the British pound, that is)
-
Even Paris and Dublin and cities in Italy are more expensive due to the strength of the Euro. It's not as strong as the British Pound but it's certainly stronger than the American dollar. It's higher than it was in 2005 when we were in Dublin. At that time it was around $1.20. Now it's around $1.30.
-
But be warned, though the UK may sound very tempting: I normally don't have problems with such things, still even I found some relatively expensive hotel rooms in the UK tiny and claustrophobic.
My solution is usually to get a cheap room. I don't plan on being in it much, anyway!
-
Der Brucer would like for us to go to Italy some time.
If Der B doesn't mind staying in the apartment of a radical, you can have a 2 bedroom villa in Tuscany for $950 (plus utility deposit) for 14 days.
The owner, an Italian editor, (edited AMACORD AND ZABRISKIE POINT) is a friend of mine and has offered a week in her Tuscany villa to anyone who would make a tax-deductable contribution to our Sacco and Vanzetti film. (I can't remember the exact deal but I imagine it was for a little more than the regular rent.)
-
I forgot I was in Pureto Vallarta, Mazatlan, and Acapulco, shooting a Partridge Family episode.
-
As of today, $1.00 U.S. will buy 0.508259 GBP.
Or...1.016 pound = $2.
Not the best rate in a long time.
-
One more package to pack up - then I'll Fed Ex the one that needs that, and the rest will go to the post office this afternoon. I've now shipped close to two hundred Skinner/Ripley CDs to amazon. Should they ever sell them, that will be a nice chunk of change. Until they sell them and they show up as sales, I'm not sending them anymore. I'm down to 180 CDs again - these big amazon orders really eat into the stock.
-
Tuscany is VERY nice....someone should take Edisaurus up on that 2-week deal.
I'm very partial to Greece.
-
Greece is the word!
-
But be warned, though the UK may sound very tempting: I normally don't have problems with such things, still even I found some relatively expensive hotel rooms in the UK tiny and claustrophobic.
Apropos of that, look at what $335,000 (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070122/ap_on_fe_st/tiny_apartment_2) will buy you in the UK!

My sister LOVES Ikea. She just went yesterday and called me to tell me that she has some gifts for me. :D

Good Afternoon!
I'm back from IKEA... The new coffee table has been assembled and in place, as is the new area rug. And for under $50 - Gotta love that disposable furniture. I didn't have to buy the new stuff for the apartment, but all of us were getting sick of the old fruit crates that were being used as tables and shelves. So...
Alas, the stuff that I really wanted/needed was not in stock. And according to the computer, the shelving units won't be back in stock for another 4-7 weeks(!). At least, I have what I need for now. I just wanted to buy some "insurance" for when the rest of my stuff gets up here next week.
...And now I think I may head down to K-Mart to pick up some cheap placemats... OH! I do have a Sur La Table gift card to use up, hmm...
-
By the way, at the gym yesterday I was informed that it was George Reeves, not Steve Reeves, who was in the mariachi band.
Dear Diary,
Today I found out some news that will forever change my life...

No. Sundance Head was the heavy fellow with the HUGE bluesy voice...full head of hair...and Simon commented to Paula and Randy as Sundance left the room, "He just blew Taylor apart".
Oh sorry i got the names mixed up. So what was the name of the bald guy?
Actually i was so happy that we agreed. But guess what? I really do not like the big guy with the bluesy voice. He's the one with that "interesting" beard, right? I know that simon said he was fantastic. But i just did not like anything about him.
Although that said, i think it's pretty clear that the two you like will be in the top 32 unless something drastic happens. I never really realized how much importance these first auditions have. But i bet the ones that the judges like now make it through to the finals regardless of how the hollywood portion goes.
-
What did Jose do for elmore's myspace page, and should we blame him?
Mais, bien sûr!
-
Your sister is VERY good to you, isn't she!
I've said this before, "I've always depended on the kindness of...family." ;)
-
And speaking of iTunes... The soundtrack for the new Finding Nemo show is available there. It was written by Bobby Lopez (Avenue Q) and his wife, Kristen. *And I played the final round of auditions for the show. It'll be nice to have a "finished" product to listen to, although, the demos are fun too.
-

No, DR Jennifer...Sundance Head had "no" beard. You're thinking of the guy who did the Johnny Cash song. With the long hair and the freakish beard.
How could you not remember Sundance Head???????

Well, I do believe I shall head down to Soho to shop for some linens...

No, DR Jennifer...Sundance Head had "no" beard. You're thinking of the guy who did the Johnny Cash song. With the long hair and the freakish beard.
How could you not remember Sundance Head???????
Do you mean the guy who said he looked like castro? No that guy had long hair and a long beard. I know who that is.

My solution is usually to get a cheap room. I don't plan on being in it much, anyway!
A cheap room in London? I think that's an oxymoron. I recall the hostel on Baker St with no central heating and we had to put a shilling in the tiny little heater. BRRRRR!!! (OK, that was in college, but still...) I love London, but it can be awfully cold and damp. One spring trip I thought it'd be warming up--it was April, after all. Wrong. I had to buy warmer clothes.

I bet Jeff had trouble even doing the Twist.

He did have face hair on his chin. Is that a goatee rather than a beard? At any rate, I thought he was very good, but I find the double standard of judging size between men and women really interesting. Last year when Mandisa came in with that huge voice, Simon liked her voice but couldn't help but make a snarky comment about her size. Sundance Head was equally big yet none of the judges commented on his size.

I didn't read the first three, but friends told me how much got omitted in the movie of GOBLET OF FIRE, so I'm reading them now to know ALL of the story rather than just the highlights. Since ORDER OF THE PHOENIX comes out later this year, I have the time to read it now before the film opens. So, for the first time, I will know the secrets of the book before I see the film.

DR MBarnum,
You will read NO complaints from me no matter how many pictures of the gorgeous Jeff Richards you want to post. I love him, too.

But be warned, though the UK may sound very tempting: I normally don't have problems with such things, still even I found some relatively expensive hotel rooms in the UK tiny and claustrophobic.
Very true, because of the way the city is built all the rooms are small, and most hotels hardly have elevators. However, that is the charm. It is quite expensive if you act like a tourist, but if you buy fresh bread from a corner bakery it will last you breakfast 3 days for about 3 dollars (1.5 pounds) and then all one has to worry about is dinner, transportation, and shows! Luckily they have a sort of tkts in their theater district, and the underground is fantastic.

I began my afternoon finishing THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA. I still find one aspect of the film unsatisfying: I feel her friends and her boy friend didn't support Andy the way they should have. People change as they grow and as they assume the responsibilities of an adult world. She was in a crushingly impossible job with demands made on her at all times. It doesn't matter that they didn't approve. If it's what she felt she needed to do to achieve the ends she was seeking, she should have had their support. Instead, they seemed to judge her negatively because she wasn't what THEY expected her to be FOR THEM. Unfair and selfish, it struck me.

New York painter takes on race, religion and society’s hostility to male nudity in Atlanta show
By Ryan Lee
Friday, January 19, 2007
MICHAEL DAVID KNOWS A CREATIVE mind can be dangerous and painful if it is uncontrolled, if instead of channeling or tempering its array of ideas, it is allowed to freely release its ambitious chaos into the world.
The New York-based artist — whose latest provocative exhibit, “Requiem for a Gangster,” opens Jan. 19 at the gay-owned Lowe Gallery in Buckhead — was once the victim of his own mind’s creative excess.
…
Lowe says that David’s work maintains a shocking edge that still motivates viewers to think about the deeper issues behind the images. The gallery owner says it is out of vogue to present exhibitions just for controversy’s sake, but David’s collection does include several nude photographs and paintings that Lowe considers the most sensitive pieces in the exhibit.
“The images on the cross have a sexual charge that will cause people to feel a little squirmy,” Lowe says of pieces that replace the traditional construct of Jesus on the cross with photos of a crucified nude black man and white woman.
“Even those of us who think of ourselves as being so open and so liberal, when you see anyone else [besides the traditional image of Christ] in that format, it’s a little shocking,” says Lowe, who nonetheless adds that he believes Atlanta art fans “will find it extremely compelling.”
“There’s nothing about the work that is gratuitous,” Lowe says of the exhibit’s pieces, which range from $5,000 to $175,000.
But David is committed to exploring sensitive themes in his work, like what he considers the undercurrent of homophobia that keeps male frontal nudity taboo in our society, even in art.
“How many breasts have we seen in the history of movies and how many penises have we seen? It’s still so taboo,” David says.
That last sentence has the seeds of a good folk song - or maybe a sonnet...How do I love Thee, Let count the ways...

I then watched some of the special features on the PRADA DVD. I looked at the gag reel which reveals Anne Hathaway to be something of a klutz. Maybe she just wasn't used to wearing high heels, but she seemed to fall down A LOT in those outtakes.
I also watched some of the deleted scenes, none of which would have added anything major to the film.
-
Are you sure he didn't have a beard? Not a long one? But i remember a heavy set guy who simon went crazy for. And he had this really weird beird (it was very small and weirdly shaped).
Ohhh...right. He did have some facial hair.

Next, I watched MERRY ANDREW recorded off TCM this morning. Not a great Danny Kaye vehicle, but there were a couple of sprightly Saul Chaplin songs in the score. Nice to see Tommy Rall do some expert dancing and spinning.
-
Since I'm enjoying ORDER OF THE PHOENIX so much, I put in the DVD of HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN since Sirius Black and Lupin are characters in the first part of the book and also in that story as well.

Unfortunatly it happens all the time in real life( I should know ). The script writer must have done a good job to effect you that much. What you did not like i found to be the inspirational part, because at the end she did not need them to succeed, just herself.

Sundance Head had a bizarre box-shaped (kind'a) goatee (bet that's the first thing to go when the AI stylist gets hold of him...) -- so you're thinking of the right guy. He's also the one whose dad was a singer back in the 50s-60s - they showed a brief clip of Head Sr. singing some rock'n roll song that was a hit (I had never head of him -- think they said his name was Jim Head, but don't quote me on that).
-
One more comment about MERRY ANDREW. Betty Wand did a superb voice doubling for Pier Angeli. If I hadn't known it was Wand, I would have sworn it was Angeli doing her own singing.
1958 was very big for Wand at MGM. She also dubbed Leslie Caron in GIGI that year.

Perhaps it's a part of the problem caused by the entirely new plot for the end of the film? I have to say, I liked the film more. however.

Be warned, because this can lead to SPOILERS!!!!
Rowling has retained control of what goes into the scripts - meaning, she makes sure that the plot points important not just to each story but to the entire series get included in each film. From this, we can be sure that certain elements are not going to be important in the final book, because those elements were not included in the earlier films.
Case in point - Peeves, the poltergeist. He's a regular part of the fun in the books, but hasn't made even one appearance in the films. Therefor, logically, he has no importance in the final story.
What the heck, you'll be spotting these differences yourself.

I've certainly enjoyed the first 1/5 of ORDER OF THE PHOENIX, and I'm guessing a good portion of this part won't make it into the film.

Good Evening!
I'm back from SoHo, and an interesting trip to Sur La Table. A dear friend had given me a gift card for the store, and since I did need some table linens, I figured I might as well get them there for "free". So, I found what I needed, and then I proceeded to look around the store for whatever else I wanted/needed - so that I could use up the full value of the gift card. Well, I must have done about four or five good laps around the store, checking and re-checking shelves. -I don't need that. -I already have that. -Could I use that? -Do I have room for that? etc., etc., etc. I started to feel as if the some of the staff and security guard were thinking I was casing the joint. I wasn't. I was just trying to fill my shopping basket with enough goodies to use up the balance up on the gift card - which really wasn't that much in the larger scheme of things. So, after browsing for about an hour and a half(!) - and the store really isn't that big - I found enough stuff that I thought I could use.
Now I just need to use them.
-
Alas, all that walking around the store took it's toll on me - I could actually feel my blood sugar drop - well, I got a little light-headed at one point. Luckily, there's a Dean & Deluca two blocks away, so I was able to stop in there and get a good piece of bread to knosh on and some bottled water.
-I guess all this getting up "early" is going to take some getting used to. Who knew four hours could make such a difference? ;)
-
Well... I think I'm going to treat myself to a nice hot shower, and then veg in front of the TV for a bit.
Laters...

Especially if they have a Swedish captain!

Back from a difficult jog. Still don't know what's what with the missing package - no one will take any responsibility. The post office says they don't scan in a delivery confirmation until it is either delivered to the address or to someone from the address. My mail place says they don't have it - clearly someone is either lying or has lost the package. I've written the company who sent it and asked them to deal with it and to resend the contents of the lost package.

Ah, a Question!
BK - Have you ever written - or even thought of writing - a large scale instrumental work?

Have you ever wanted to re-score a film yourself?
Three excellent questions. I don't know if I'm musically sophisticated to write a large scale instrumental work - but it would be fun. Tunes I can do well, and I can even develop them. I'd have to really understand the structure of what I was doing though, and, of course, I don't orchestrate, so elmore would have to make it sound good.
I have, in fact, scored two films - some cheesy two-bit soft core film for Nudie Musical's co-director Mark Haggard, I think it was called The All American Woman or something - a piano score. I also wrote the score for the film I took over directing, Prime Suspect. That has some nice music in it - I have the tapes here somewhere.
I can't say that I've wanted to rescore a film, but I certainly could have improved on some film songs.
-
She might have done it just to "show" me - certainly that has been their m.o since October of 2001. You know, nah, nah, nah, elmore approved me as his friend sort of stuff. But, maybe she just loves your work - I suspect she was put up to it by certain people - maybe I'm wrong, maybe I'm right.
-
Will we never get to page eight?
-
What an odd day this has been.
-
I'm afraid I got quite testy with my mail place on the phone after I'd been there. When I got home, I checked the caller ID on the home phone and I saw that they'd called. I called back and asked who'd called me and why. And this little illiterate idiot says "no one called." Just like that. Blatantly. I said, no you are incorrect because I have caller ID and someone most assuredly called - didn't leave a message, but called. She kept saying no one had called, and I'm afraid the "F" word came out of my mouth and quite vociferously. I then told her to put someone else on the phone. She did that silent bit, then said, "Everyone's busy." I then did the non-silent bit and said, "Put someone on the phone or I will come down there with my telephone and show you the caller ID and I will not be nice about it." At that point, a guy gets on the phone and says, "Sorry, I called you. You have three packages here." I told him unless they were three different packages from the three packages that I'd just picked up, that I'd already gotten them - he saw that I had and that was that. That first gal is on my list now.
-

Yes, they do. We do Ollie's at least once a week here up in Uptown/West Harlem via the location around Columbia University. Now we just need to find a good Indian place that delivers to our neighborhood - we seem to be between zones for most places.
And having Chinese food for both lunch and dinner is never a bad thing. Heck, the people in Beijing do that every day. ;)

Molly is coming in from Seattle tomorrow. Hope we don't get the snow that is predicted that will make the drive to the airport.....scary.
Good weather vibes, and to the Philadelphia area as well! My friend I visited there is scheduled for her last chemo & treatment tomorrow. It would be a shame if anything prevented her from completing this very difficult process so she can begin her recovery.
Have a nice visit with Molly.
-
I love Ollie's! The bean curd country style is one of my faves
I wish we had an Ollie's here. It sure was good, and the staff is very friendly.
-

to Jane's friend undergoing chemo!
I pray that she does well and recovers.

Here's what I think happens on most music myspace pages, especially in the case of the person elmore deleted - I think they go to other's pages, see who their friends are (especially professionals) and they just go to every profile and asked to be added - that way the friends list grows and grows - they trawl the myspace pages every day - it's really sort of pathetic, but it gives them the ability to do bulletins that will go to all those people - not that they'll necessarily read the bulletins.
-
Hello. I hope life is treating everyone well.
-
Tomorrow is my daddy's 77th birthday
-
I think I must be getting over my cold. I just ran the vacuum, hauled 80 pounds of salt pellets down the basement and filled the water softner . I feel much better
-
that is all

good news!
-
I haven't had this much energy in weeks and just in time for things to slow down a bit at the office, lol
-
Hi Vixmom! Great to see you. Happy Birthday in advance to your Dad.
-
DR MBarnum - Don't forget - or I hope you haven't forgotten - that "The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency" is on tonight.
:)
My DVR will be recording it. I am unsure if I like the show or not...Janice is not my favorite type of person...and I really adore her business partner...and she didn't like the girl from Oregon .
-
I have just been catching up. Is The Brain coming out on CD or DVD?
-
Happy birthday to vixmom's dad.

Well, just turn the sound down and enjoy the scenery. ;) Btw, the male models are featured in the second half of tonight's program - I just watched it. So, use that fast forward button.
-
As for tonight's "American Idol"... Just how many more preliminary rounds to we have to sit through? And just how much more humiliation do we have to witness?
-
While it's true that Jeff RIchards was dubbed in SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS (so was Matt Mattox) and didn't dance in the "Barn Raisin' - Part I," he was a part of "Lonesome Polecat" which was an excruciatingly difficult number for a non dancer to perform with that very precise rhythm and movement in one long take.
-
There is one more night of auditions and then a clip show of rejects, both next week. The Hollywood rounds follow on the following week.
-
I finished HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN. Very good transfer, video and audio.
-
Next I put in PRESENTING LILY MARS. I started with the special features where I watched the finale presented in stereo surround sound. Made it very enjoyable, and what a treat to see Judy dancing with Charles Walters. They also had the audio outtake for "Paging Mr. Greenbacks" which I also enjoyed.
Then, I began the feature itself and got about 30 minutes in. Judy and Van Heflin seemed like a good pair. Too bad they didn't do other films together. Of course, his not being particularly musical limited the kinds of films she could do with him, but they made a good match.
Warners hasn't done anything special with this transfer. There are speckles and dirt and even some scratches in the first third that I've watched. Some of Judy's close-ups were soft looking. Were they diffusing the lens for her close-ups in 1943?
-
I'm caught up. WHEW!
-
I did enjoy the New York round of auditions. Of course, there were the usual weirdos and psychos, but I genuinely enjoyed the few talented people they showed us. I was particularly pleased to see the guy who bowed out during last year's Hollywood round come back and try to get another shot at it. It'll be fun following his story in Hollywood again.
-
I think there were a total of 6 of these early round places. Whether NY counts as one or two of the six, I am not certain. Birmingham does not look promising.
-
I liked MEDIUM tonight very much. The killer was pretty easy to spot, but the reasoning only became clear late in the show. But it was a satisfying story for me this week.
BTW, did they ever say that they found the other dead man's body parts and arrested his wife for the murder?
-
I saw a play last night called TRANSLATIONS. Lots of Irish history kind of stuff. I wish I could say it was something I dig. It had some great acting, but strayed too far from any kind of coherent plot.
-
Might want to put a spoiler warning on that, MattH.
-
been catching up...

The weather people are calling for snow squalls throughout the day, but it shouldn't be enough to hinder any travel. In any case, I'll emit some no-snow vibes tomorrow.
-
well time to toddle off to bed
-
That's awesome that you are reading the Harry Potter books now, Matt. I am amazed at how you find the time. I wanted to ask you with that TIVO or whatever, do you just zap right through the commercials on TV?
-
No, I don't think a spoiler is needed. There were two murders. In one, the man admitted the wife killed him early in the show. It was the other murder that had a mystery identity that we didn't find out until much later.
-
MEDIUM SPOILER
I found the final scene between the two dead men rather creepy, where the older guy said the woman who was being spied on could have been happy she mattered so much to someone. But it's a voyeur who was just spying on her from afar, and making believe he was interested in her work because of his distant feelings. Very creepy, I thought, not even remotely romantic.
But otherwise quite gripping.

Oh, sure. I never watch commercials if I'm watching a DVR recording.
-
Sounds good. Just wanted to check just in case. I have sort of given up on the show, so it's no bother to me. I love the family but have grown weary of the mysteries.
-
Rodzinski - Any potential "Leading Men" column candidates in TRANSLATIONS?
-
CARNIVAL STORY. I used to own on a $1.99 VHS. Steve Cochran is quite good in that. He's one of my favorite underrated actors.
-
Nightline tonight is the "snub" of Dreamgirls for Best Picture. This deserves time on what used to be a very good news show?
-
BK - I had dropped something in the mail to you on Tuesday morning, which I hope will get to you by Thurs. or Fri. Is the dreaded package place the same place where you get ordinary first class business letter type stuff? If so, hope there's no problem with regular mail.
-
Not as it stands, FJL, because currently their vision for that column is musicals, a fact I'd like to change in time.
-

I was disappointed yesterday, but move on, people! I can't believe they'd give time to this unless they're going to try to make it some sort of racial snub. Ridiculous!
-
I watched Julie Taymor’s THE MAGIC FLUTE on Great Performances. It was very truncated, but beautifully designed and staged. I was supposed to do a little work at home tonight, but I couldn't tear my eyes or ears away from the tv. I wish I had recorded this.
-

I agree with you about Steve. He could be very sinister and menacing but he could also play comedy. I liked him a lot.
-
Happy Birthday to the father of DR VIXMOM!
-

So, no interview with the talented Johnny Galecki? ;)
-
Thanks to DRS CILLA LIZ, JANE, and FJL.
Miss Molly will only be visiting until Sunday. It would be wonderful if instead she said she is NOT going back....but I don't think that is an option right now.
-
-I'm a bit too tired to dance right now, so...
But I wonder if Johnny Galecki does?
-
I can't use that internet picture of J. Galecki for a dance, so you must use your imaginations.
-
Does that mean Wayman never did columns on the young nubile actors who played the students in History Boys? They would have appealed to his readership, and I'm trying to remember if he had done any of them :) , I mean, done stories about any of them. (If you're reading this, Wayman, I'm only kidding.)
-
Oh... That's right, I forgot they went to this multi-segment/quasi-news-magazine format for "Nightline" after Koppel left... :-\
-

:o :-X :P ::) ;D
-
I sense a spike in image searches of Johnny Galecki on Google occurring as we speak.
-
Yes, an evil villain in WHITE HEAT or kind of a comic villain in that Danny Kaye music professors movie with Virginia Mayo.
But recently I even saw him play a great romantic lead, a real good-guy character in OF LOVE AND DESIRE with Merle Oberon. Kind of a vanity movie for her, but somehow fun. It shows occasionally on Fox, if you haven't seen it.
-
I was writing about Steve Cochran there, not Johnny Galecki, just in case anyone is confused!
-
I meant to mention that Cochran could also play romantic leads. He had gorgeous eyes.
-
And now, I'm off to bed.
Good night!
-
I think he might have interviewed some when they did the hybrid spinoff, Naked History Boys Singing.
-
One of my favorite Steve Cochran films is SHE'S BACK ON BROADWAY opposite Virginia Mayo. And WHITE HEAT also with Ms Mayo.
-
Oh... That's right, I forgot they went to this multi-segment/quasi-news-magazine format for "Nightline" after Koppel left... :-\
Yeah, the Dreamgirls segment was short, didnt' say much. I haven't watched Dateline in a while, now I know why. It's not as good as it used to be
-
Cochran-Mayo, a forgotten quasi-team.
-
Well kids, it's time for me to get some sleep. Night
-
Johnny Galecki "Little Dog Laughed" edited photo. ;D
-
I think he is a nuclear physicist in this play.
-
I eat at Ollies almost every time I stay in the Times Square area. Most recently with DR jhvw.
I'll have to check it out next time.
My favorite Chinese food is Joe's Shangai in Chinatown. They have now opened one up in the west 50's... the soup dumplings are to die for. I wish I hadn't been dining alone last week because that's all I was able to order, but ah...it's so wonderful. There was a woman breaking up with a guy at the next table. A little extra drama before I headed off to the theatre!
The installation films on the exterior walls of the MoMA were pretty fun, too.
-
I haven't had this much energy in weeks and just in time for things to slow down a bit at the office, lol
Want to come help paint my house with George and his sister? ;D
-
To quote a doll named Drowsy that my little sister used to have when we were kids: "I go sleep now. Night-night!"
-
Staying up until Molly's plane leaves Seattle.
-
I thought that's what Talking Tina said.
-
Back from a lovelier than lovely dinner with La Julieanne Pogue. We laughed and laughed and just when we thought we could laugh no more, we laughed again.
-
And now I must watch a motion picture on DVD - I began it earlier, but I'm not very far in.
-
To quote a doll named Drowsy that my little sister used to have when we were kids: "I go sleep now. Night-night!"
Would that make your sister the "Drowsy Chaperone"?
-
Back from Cirque du Soleil---"Corteo". I took one of my Turner clients, (my old Closer producer) and Greg. I've been going to see Cirque ever since they started coming to Atlanta, usually several times while they're here. My client had never been to see them. I love to de-flower Cirque virgins!
-
I don't like to sit too close when I see Cirque (or its clones) - I don't like to see the performers straining.....
-
I don't like to sit too close when I see Cirque (or its clones) - I don't like to see the performers straining.....
I was able to get perfect seats, exactly in the middle. I don't like close up either...you miss a lot of the spectacle!
-
Sleep shall now overtake me.
-
It had some great acting, but strayed too far from any kind of coherent plot.
That's Irish Drama!
der Brucer
::hums..."How are things in Irish Drama....."::

Molly is in the air....time for to go to bed.
-
Gosh, I have been on the floor sorting papers and reminiscing for the last few hours and as fun as it may be it has killed my back!
I found alot of old scripts and poems and papers I missed though.
-
I feel it is time for a new avie but I don't know if i have a better one to put up.
-
I'm the only one in the jernt? Most unseemly.
-
I have finished watching a motion picture on DVD and am contemplating beginning the notes.
-
I fear there will be no getting to page twelve, what with all the WUSSBURGERING.
-
awww, it's no fun to get to page twelve all by yourself.
-
I think it's still possible
-
well, it is no fun if you are not here.
-
This is a depressing ending to the days posts
-
very anticlimactic
-
Something exciting needs to happen
-
BLARG!!!!
-
hmmm..that was not very exciting either
-
oh well, you can't say I did not try.
-
I just looked through the guy haines photo album. My what a life! No wonder he is so talented.
-
What could I possibly post about 14 more times
-
While waiting for new notes I have put togeather a myspace awareness post....
-
filled with fun and interesting facts
