Fall has hit Kentucky.  The weather's cooling, the leaves are beginning to change.  I noticed something here that was absent in LA...BIG FLUFFY MARSHMALLOW CLOUDS.  The kind where you lay back in the grass and image them to be all sorts of shapes.  The only time I ever saw clouds like this in LA was after the rain had washed all the muck out of the sky.

An enjoyable read from LA TIMES

Quote
COLUMN ONE
Reviving a Faded Movie Star and Her Pool
Marion Davies and her beach house embodied Hollywood's Golden Age. Decades later, the actress and the site are back in the limelight.
By Martha Groves, Times Staff Writer

...

The Hearst/Davies beach house in Santa Monica, circa 1940, stretched five beachfront acres.
(Marc Wanamaker / Bison Archives)

The three-story, Georgian Revival main house was U-shaped, with 18 Grecian columns across the back. Davies and Hearst had separate suites connected by a hidden door. Four other houses were occupied by Davies' family, long-term guests and more than 30 full-time servants. Altogether, the complex included 110 bedrooms and 55 bathrooms.

Marion Davies at the Santa Monica beach house in 1937, the year she retired after making 46 feature films.
(Marc Wanamaker / Bison Archives)

"I couldn't act, but the idea of silent pictures appealed to me because I couldn't talk either," Davies recalled much later, alluding to her problem of stuttering.

Thanks for the new-home-owner good wishes, Cillaliz, Ginny and PennyO!  But it will officially close on Monday.  The title company said that the papers all have to be signed and the money paid at the same time...so, Monday it is! :)

Well, on the condo front...I got a call from my realtor yesterday and she said that the seller would like to close today (Friday)!  Today??  The closing date was planned to be Monday (which is also next month), but I called the mortgage company and my mom (she's giving me the down payment ;D).  Todd at the mortgage company said that everything on his end is okay.  My mom, however, said that she can't get the money for the down payment until Monday because it's in a CD (certificate of deposit) and it doesn't mature until October 1 (Sunday).

However, if it's okay with the title company, I might be able to sign all the papers and pay the fees today, but then just give them the down payment on Monday.  I have to call the title company very early today (not this early, though ;)) to see if they can/will even want to do it that way.  I also don't know, even if they will allow me to sign the papers today, if they'll give me the keys to the place today.  We'll see!

Good luck with everything!

I have a bag full of CDs to get me through the day.

I also must call an ophthalmologist. I went to the doctor yesterday because on Wednesday evening just before I went to bed I noticed that my left eye had what amounts to a bruise. I called my doctor yesterday morning and was able to get an afternoon appointment. I have what is referred to in the medical trade as a

SUBCONJUNCTIVAL HEMATOMA

basically, what I said before, a bruise on the eye. I have no idea how it happened but my doctor is not worried and said it will slowly go away, like a bruise on any other part of the body. He referred me to an ophthalmologist so I have to call and make an appointment today for some time next week. Just wanted to warn anyone who will see me this weekend. I'm sure the red will still be there. It looks gruesome but there is no pain or any kind of swelling. It just looks like I got hit in the eye.

On that note I will retire to the Annie E. Casey Foundation.

Later.

Gee, I did not know that Tomovoz was such a violent person!!.... or is it Colin?!?! ;)

And re: UGLY BETTY (new tv show).

I LOVED it.

This is by far my favorite show of the new season.

I love betty. America is so funny and genuine. And she is a fantastic betty.

The story is charming and funny and fun. I really hope that this show is the hit it deserves to be. It was so easy to get involved in this show. It usually takes me a long time to care about any of the characters.

I see DR MattH i also liked it. Not sure if anyone else watched it. But it's really quite good.

Good Afternoon!

-Back from Richmond - The drive back was uneventful, and the weather was perfect.

-Back from IKEA - I actually made it in and out of there in under an hour - and half of that hour was spent having lunch.  I found the small end/tray tables I wanted to get, so I got them - three of them, in fact.  I did dawdle a bit in the kitchen and bathroom sections, but I soon regained control of my senses - and dream budget ;) - and headed right to the cash registers with my three tables in hand.

And now...

DR George - Congrats on your very-soon-to-be home ownership!  Over the past couple of years, my parents have been encouraging me to, "Buy! Buy! Buy!", but, frankly, all those percentages, points, fees, etc., just confound me.  And I'm not going to buy until I actually understand what I'm doing.  More power to you!

DR Charles Pogue - I saw many of those clouds up here in Virginia too while driving back from Richmond.  -And I can still see some of them from my balcony too.

Dayton, Ohio's in the showbiz news, thanks to our Human Race Theatre Co.  Any insights from any Hainsies/Kimlets?

Well... The only insight I have is that I know some people who have worked at Human Race, and they've all had wonderful experiences there.

So...

Do we need to take a head count for tomorrow night at Joe Allen?  -even though I probably won't be there.

And...

Do we need to take a head count for next Thursday day?

...next Thursday evening for dinner?

...next Thursday post-show?
