I just received very happy news.  Our friend will have her new born baby (who had a temporary stay in ICU) home with her today.  It is sad enough to go home & leave the baby behind, worse on her first Mother's Day.  Happily this will now be the extra special Mother's Day it should be.

Very good news, Jane!!

Time for me to head out.  I have to take a shower, go to my sister's to help her with something, then we'll go to our parents' house to celebrate Mother's Day.  After that, I need to be at rehearsal by 4:00 pm.  Then the rest of my evening is mine. :)

DR JMK - my guess is that many people in the audience were there to see the novelty of a performer with NEA Grants out the ying yang.

this was pre-race.  She sang the national anthem.  Let's just say that she got most of the intervals right within each phrase, but each phrase was in a different key from the one before and after it.  It was interesting

Post race....still smiling. At the start I realized I was with the runners and not the walkers, so I ran until we were past the TV cameras and then walked most of the rest of the way.  It took me about 45 minutes to do the 3.1 miles. I was happy with that.

I think that's a good idea about scanning pictures of our mothers. I'll root around here in a bit to find one to scan and put up.

It has a beautiful day today, and the cool weather took its toll on me. I ended up having a nap in the middle of the afternoon. I don't like to interrupt films once I've started them, but I couldn't keep my eyes open.

I began my afternoon watching Friday night's FLASHPOINT. The show always gets to me. This one featured a couple I took an instant dislike to, and by the end, I was sobbing and completely in sync with them and their problems.

I also watched this week's episode of THE OFFICE. Some good laughs in the "disco coffee house" episode.

Then I watched my work disc for the day - Imamura's THE INSECT WOMAN. Tracing the life of a Japanese woman from her birth in 1918 in the various ups and downs of her life through 1959, it had its interesting moments, but I found it hard to get immersed in this woman's life, quite frankly. From siring a daughter with her father through stints as a maid (whereby her carelessness causing the death of the family's child by being scaulded to death), a prostitute, a powerful madam and finally to prison and once out seeing the cycle repeat through that illegitimate daughter of hers, I was not a feel good movie, and it was much too long for the story it was telling.

Overall, a disappointment.

Next, I watched Tony Rayns' critique of the film (about 13 minutes) which was a lot more positive than I was about the movie.

There is a twenty minute interview with the director on the disc, but my nap kept me from having time to get that watched today. I'll watch it when I go back down.

Then I'll decide if I have time to watch INTENTIONS OF MURDER tonight or save it for tomorrow.

Mother's Day greetings!  Richard and I are home from our whirlwind 48 hours of festivities in greater Cincinnati.  We bid farewell to our friends at St. Paul's and next week will be at Church of the Holy Nativity in Lima.

Richard is napping until it's time to go out to my mom's for steak dinner with her and my sister, brother-in-law, and niece.  Sure glad they're cooking tonight!

Here's one of my favorite pictures - Richard and me with both mothers and all our siblings, Thanksgiving 2005 (or '06?):

I couldn't find right offhand the picture I wanted to share of my mother, but I dug this one out of old birthday photographs. It's my first birthday with my brother and my mother alongside.

Naturally, I have no memory of this at all.

Good Morning!

I'm up, I'm up... And about to head to the Legazpi Airport to fly back to Manila. I've had an amazing time in Bicol with the family and friends of my Father, and now it's back to Manila to spend time with my Mother's family.
