I just woke up from a nap. I almost never take napes. During said nap I had a dream. I dreamt that I went into the pastor's office for something, and I discovered that his entire office had been packed up and was empty. I guess that was his way of giving his notice.

Larry, I took the liberty of sending those Anderson MP3s to one of my contacts at Naxos, who is a big Anderson fan.  He LOVED them!

I really prefer Anderson's coducting of his music to Slatkin's on Naxos; the Naxos editions certainly have more music. I think there are six volumes.

I would say so, Jane. I like him. And it would be a nightmare about having to go through the process of finding a new one all over again.

George when do you begin your new position?  Will that be the same day you begin training for it or the day training ends?

My current supervisor (whom I will be replacing) will start training me next week.  I think that he's supposed to move to the business office on the 11th, so I should get one full week of training.  I haven't filled out any paperwork for the upgrade, so I don't know when I'll officially start working at the new pay rate (I'll just get a 3% increase).  I think that I'm getting paid for the training, so maybe Monday or even today (since it's the beginning of the month and I think they prefer to have people start on the first or the 15th of the month).

I am in Montreal and saw that Jews In Baseball is opening today. It is playing at one small theater in the suburbs. Its about a 30 minute drive from where i'm staying

It's funny but I've never considered Cote St Luc (where the movie is playing) the suburbs.

I lived in Cote St. Luc when there were still active farms around. Going downtown was a treat and took a while to get there.

I even remember there were two farms on the corners of Kildare Rd and Westminster. One became a city park and the other i think homes

If I get to work earlier.  One thing that my new supervisor said was that I need to be more consistent with my arrival time.  I said that I knew that that would be required.  She did recognize that for the last few weeks I had been coming in earlier than I had before.  She didn't specify a specific time for me to come in (yet), but on average I've been coming in between 9:15 and 9:30.

Greetings from Toyland! It was a wet trip to get here.

This has been an uncomfortable Toyland week, so I'm here to copy samples from a few scores, take home a few things, complete a couple of projects, and get home to organize things I need for a week in the recording studio. We're having a guest from another Institute project coming in for God knows how long and needing an office space, so I need to make a space as well for him/her.

DR elmore - It sounds like you headed down at the right time.  The 1, 2 & 3 trains were suspended between Times Square and 96th in both directions due to flooding for a good chunk of time this morning.  Even the A/C and B/D lines were still backed up for a bit when I headed down to Equity this morning.  I'm glad I decided to leave a little earlier than usual just in case.

DR Dan (the Man) - Glad to hear that your commute this morning didn't turn out to be more adventurous than it could have been.

As for the Friday Media Check...

I've actually been listening to a CD this week! "Jeremy Denk Plays Ives".

I've heard Jeremy play "The Concord" in recital (live), and it's been nice to give a closer listen to his interpretation - and all of those notes! I had actually bought the "CD" when it was released on iTunes. I was finally able to pick up a hard copy earlier this week.  -I really do prefer "the real thing".

I forgot to mention that the diva tenor continues to be a problem. I do hope we do not have to fire him during tomorrow's session, but the music director tells me he's concerned.

So, while the bad news continues:
The Oaf Above Me Is Back! ! !
It's been so quiet after midnight lately that I forgot to use the earplugs last night, and sure enough, I was awakened by a slamming door sometime after midnight and then at 1:30 a woman screaming as if someone just bit a part of her anatomy too violently. I then foudn the earplugs.

DR elmore - I hope you're feeling a bit de-stressed by now.

Had some great luck at the record stores today. Found "Kat and the Kings," a British musical that flopped on Broadway in the late 1990s, as well as two Bruce Kimmel-produced recordings: "Our Private World: Sally Mayes Sings Comden & Green" (with orchestrations by our own DR Elmore) and Duke Ellington's score for "Timon of Athens." Going to be listening to lots more than I thought this weekend.

The weather here is gorgeous this evening. It went from 96 to the upper 70s. I was outside for a barbecue class this evening. Great food including pulled pork with a green apple coleslaw and grilled pound cake with grilled peaches.

Then tonight I had a big surprise,  Paul was invited to go to dinner in a town about an hour from here by a couple we know but aren't really close to. They invited another friend to go with them and she cancelled at the last minute so they called me.  I said yes, changed my clothes quickly and went with them.  We had the best time!  The place is called Blue Mountain in Orange City.  www.bluemountainemporium.net We ate in the smokehouse, I had the sampler platter.  It was great.  Good time and lots and lots of laughs.

I haven't had fun like that in a long time. I live in a world of married people so it isn't often that I get invited for little excursions like this.  Hope it happens more now
