Well, you've read the notes, the notes told the Rosalie story, and now it is time for you to post until the storied cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: VIRTUOSO!
-
Topic of the Day: I don't know what was the actual first musical that I saw, but one of the earliest was the the national tour of the operetta The Pirates of Penzance at Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre in 1981 or 1982. The whole family went. It starred Peter Noone of the Herman's Hermits (my sister and I knew about THH because our parents had an album of British rock groups and they were on it) as Frederic; and Jim Belushi (who, at that time, was only known as John Belushi's younger brother) as The Pirate King.
-
And now, I'm off to bed. Today, I go back to work and will need to start invoicing because the bills have to be paid.
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, all!
-
The omens are not good for today. So far, everything I'ver touched has turned to crap. The last was my cup of coffee. I sat down, started to take a drink and found a dead roach floating in it Before that, one of the plugs connecting the TV, DVD player, VCR, and cable box came loose and I had to repair that while three cats clamored for food. Then I checked my unemployment status from last night to see it did not go through due to a computer screw up at the NY Dept. of Labor last night.
I must leave a message for my super about the latest toilet leak - I think I need a new one - since my doctor appointment now will take up a great part of the morning. On top of that every joint in my knees, hips and shoulder are killing me, I can barely walk, and all I want to do is clear things for a safe exit to the doctor at 9:00.
-
I will also be glad when these visiting nurse and physical therapist sessions end. They call and cancel, or they're late, or they call and I cancel. Both are good ladies, but . . .
-
DR TCB, I understand your wish to keep working, but you are rehearsing under very strange circumstances.
-
The visiting nurse just called at 7:20! Can I come today between noon and 2:00? That means if I'm lucky, she'll be here by 3:00. I said no.
-
My first musical was a junior high school production of Kurt Weill's Knickerbocker Holiday, a show I still love and find pertinent. My next musical after that were high school South Pacific, and my first professional musical was either the national tour of The Sound of Music or Camelot with Louis Hayward, Katherine Grayson, who called out sick at my performance - she missed a lot of them, I hear - and Arthur Treacher.
-
Good morning.
-
T.O.D.
The first musical I ever saw was OKLAHOMA!.
It was the 2nd-3rd road company; played Seattle in the early 1950s.
I was, probably, around 10-12. Don't recall any of the cast.
That was the 2nd professional play I saw.
The first was HARVEY with Joe E. Brown, and I still have memories of that. I was 5 years old.
-
When I was in my mid-teens, I'd go by myself to Saturday matinee performances of various plays and musicals:
DAMN YAKNEES with Bobby Clark
BYE, BYE BIRDIE with Bill Hayes
THE MUSIC MAN with Forest Tucker and Joan Welson
THE CAINE MUTINY COURT-MARTIAL with Paul Douglas, Wendell Corey, Steve Brodie and Robert Lowery
THE DESPERATE HOURS with William Gargan, Richael Jaeckel and Nancy Colman
THE ANDERSONVILLE TRIAL with Brian Donlevy
-
Good morning, all.
-
I'm printing out DR Elmore's morning omens post and putting it on the fridge as a cautionary tale. :)
-
May the day improve soon!
-
Fast AC replacement vibes for DR Laura!
-
And I just spent the last ten minutes looking for my glasses! They had fallen off the table and got tangled in the mouse cable. The omens continue ill.
I hope I neither die, fall down in the street, nor have an ordeal looking for taxis this morning. I really do not want to make the trip to my surgeon, but there's a problem, and so out I must go.
-
Best vibes for a quick and easy visit there, DR Elmore.
-
As Sweet Sue said: Each and every girl in my band is a VIRTUOSO, and I mean to keep it that way......
-
Finding a flight vibes for DR JANE.
-
Getting a cab vibes for DR ELMORE.
-
AC vibes for DR LAURA.
-
No more Popeye's vibes for MR BK aka Murf.
-
Later today we will tape the final FIVE interviews of the season.... I am supposed to get three edited interviews today, but the links have yet to arrive.....although they have allegedly been sent....
-
Finding a flight vibes for DR JANE.
Thank you.

First exposure to a musical at all: My uncle playing his original cast album of The Music Man. I was very taken with the music, even though I didn't have the slightest idea what was going on, AND with his record player which seemed so much nicer than the one we had at that time. I wouldn't know anything more about the show itself until we saw the movie on its opening night, three or four years later.
First time seeing a musical: The movie South Pacific, seen at a drive-in in Columbus. Blew me away. NOW I understood what a "musical" was, how songs worked in them, etc. That film holds a special magic for me to this day.
First time seeing one on stage: South Pacific again, a year later when we had just moved to Fort Lauderdale, some local group doing it in the cavernous War Memorial Auditorium. (I still have the program.) The performance could have been execrable for all I know, but I was in heaven.
First cast album of a musical: Yep, South Pacific. But not a real cast album, just some second- or third-rate thing with no names on it. But I wore that thing down to nothing. It would be another year or so before we joined the Columbia Record Club and I insisted we get the actual Broadway cast album. Now I knew what was "real" and what wasn't, and I was hooked for life.
-
I think I'll pass on having any chicken sandwiches today.
-
Good morning, all.
-
One more ...
-
Two!
-
I can’t remember the first musical I ever saw, but I was a musicals geek from an early age thanks to the movies Mary Poppins and Sound of Music. On stage, it might have been an outer space rock musical of Titus Andronicus, simply called Andronicus. I know that was 1977, because it was cashing in on Star Wars. An early tour included Jane Powell and Howard Keel in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.
-
Monday vibes for us all.
-
I am home from doctor and pharmacy and ready for a nap. I have an infection, most likely caused by the kidney's trauma when the tumor was removed, and I have a new antibiotic to take. On Thursday morning I must have an ultrasound inspection.
-
While I was waiting for the doctor our former super Val called. He saids he and Heidi had been thinking of me. We promised to have coffee soon.
-
Fast AC replacement vibes for DR Laura!
Thanks. They will come between 4 and 7 p.m. today to give a quote.
-
My sister took me to see a couple of plays/musicals at our high school. I remember seeing Carousel and My Fair Lady, as well as Rhinoceros and Ondine.
-
Monday morning greetings! This week I'll be at my computer - a lot - because both DAR and ALA are holding virtual annual conferences. And this afternoon Rebecca and I have our weekly FaceTime chat.
-
TOD - Like DRs ChasSmith and John G, my first memory of a musical involves a movie version. I distinctly remember going along when my mom took my sister and several of her teenage friends to see CAROUSEL and they all left the theatre sobbing.
My first professional stage musical was the touring MUSIC MAN, with Forrest Tucker and Joan Weldon, at Detroit's Riviera Theatre, where we also saw a SOUND OF MUSIC tour starring Florence Henderson. That venue closed when the restored Fisher Theatre opened and the first show I saw there was a tour of THE UNSINKABLE MOLLY BROWN with Karen Morrow in the title role.
-
TOD
The first live musical I saw was 1776 in the St James theatre on Broadway

Nice!

If we're talking about movie musicals, I can remember my sister and I watching (it was on TV at least a couple of times when we were kids) the movie version of A Funny Thing Happened On the Way to the Forum. I had no idea about Stephen Sondheim and his contributions to the movie, but I did learn about him later...and how! ;D
-
Today’s favorite color names: Overjoy and Sensible Hue.
Why not a color called Sensible Shoes?
-
Jeff has come and gone, and I hope this new toilet leak is repaired. As far as the day goes, ever since my return home, the day has been quiet and peaceful. Stella and Thtch and I had a nice nap, then Jeff showed up, and I edited my orchestration while he was in the bathroom. Then he was gone!
-
I will feed the cats, and I think I will order pizza and a mozzarella-tomato salad for dinner.
-
In 16 hours I will be released from Facebook jail.
-

Vibes the antibiotic works quickly. You said a new antibiotic. I gather this means you were given a different one after the surgery to hopefully prevent an infection.

Awww, nice.

Thanks. They will come between 4 and 7 p.m. today to give a quote.
I hope they can install it tomorrow.

Good afternoon!
-
Hi DR Kevin.
-
First musical I saw was THE MUSIC MAN.
-
Funny how memory can play tricks on you. Once I saw the movie I thought that I saw the stage version with Robert Preston. I realize now it was with Forest Tucker.
-
I think I saw it in 1958, however, it is possible I saw it when the tour returned to Los Angeles in 1960.
-
Here are the tour dates. (https://ovrtur.com/production/2900585/tour-schedule)
-
DR Laura, I hope your AC sessions goes well this evening.
-
We have flights to Chicago. Not this month as we would prefer but earlier in July than we originally expected to go. Keith fortunately was able to move a doctor's appointment to make it happen.
-
I'm up, I'm up - awoke at one after nine hours of needed sleep.
-
How many here think Druxy didn't read today's notes. :)
-
3hree!!
-
How many here think Druxy didn't read today's notes. :)
Well, he did read the Day's Topic, if nothing else.
-
My mozzarella salad was deelish until Annabelle and Stella jumped up on the table and ran through it in their chase. Oy!
-
How many here think Druxy didn't read today's notes. :)
I assume you're being facetious about my interview with Michael Ansara. We lived 2 blocks from each other; a good friend. And no, he was not the world's greatest interview.
BTW: Clayton Moore was also my neighbor when I lived in Calabasas. I have a photo somewhere of the two of us together.
-
So I had my color consultation. I now go pick up the samples and see what they look like. She steered me in one, maybe two possible new directions.
-
My heart is broken. I just learned that Bob the London Street Cat has died after being hit by a car. He was fourteen years old, and he played himself in the film based on the book about how he rescued a young heroin addict.

He found a blown capacitor. It is working now. Huzzah!

It doesn't seem as if he didn't read them ;)

Thank goodness!

I hope you are pleased with one of them.

Oh, no. :(

He found a blown capacitor. It is working now. Huzzah!
That's good news!
-
So, BK, was the Rosalie you saw the Gershwin version, the Cole Porter version or some mix of the two?
-
I'd have no way of knowing - but I'm sure it may have been a mix, reading up on what they did to it over the years.
-
Really enjoying Deacon King Kong. Another great line was this description of a drunk: He used a Mason jar for a jigger.
-
Dishes are done for the evening.
-
And I am about done for.
-
The audio edition of my one-woman play, MISS AUDREY HEPBURN, is now available for download via Amazon, audible.com and iTunes. Emma Riches is excellent as Audrey Hepburn.

-
Oh, dear.
-
Finished with my viewing.
-
Oh, DEAR.
-
The first musicals I saw were at the Tacoma Little Theatre.
-
In the 50’s, I saw SONG OF NORWAY, IRENE, and then CAROUSEL, THE DESERT SONG and OKLAHOMA.
-
But the first touring company I saw, that I have mentioned here before, was ONCE UPON A MATTRESS.
-
The touring company included imogene Coca as Winifred, her husband, King Donovan as the Prince, and Edward Everett Horton as the King.
-
Mr. Donovan and Mr. Horton were delightful, but Miss Coca was a total bitch.
-
Oh. It wouldn't have been very funny.
-
Wow, it is really quiet tonight.

I am glad you are happy with the results. Unfortunately I don't list to audio books or plays.
-
What is this page four malarkey?
-
Barely page four.
-
The Seattle Rep used to do some incredible productions.
-
I saw a terrific production of BLITHE SPIRIT with Margaret Hamilton as Madame Arcati.
-
And I saw Christopher Walken as HAMLET, in a gold lame jumpsuit
-
;)Five effen times in a row, spellcheck took out Walken and replaced it with “walk-in.” Grrrrrrrr!
-
I'm listening to something quite delightful, having finally listened to all eighty-six discs in the Munch set.
-
I had two tuna sandwiches for lunch, and then just a little while ago I made two small tortillas with cheese for my snack.
-
All of that was soooooo much nicer than that skanky chicken thing from Popeye's yesterday, which didn't really recover from until I woke up.
-
Page for is unseemly.
-
I saw the touring company of SEESAW with Lucie Arnez, John Gavin, and the incredible Tommy Tune.
-
I also saw the touring company of PROMISES PROMISES, but I have no idea who was in the show other than Edward Winter.
-
I am probably wrong about Edward Winter.
-
Our stage manager sent out a rehearsal notice for the full cast on Wednesday evening. Not one word about two of our leads leaving the show.
-
I am amazed.
-
I just don’t know what to do.
-
Seattle Musical Theatre (where I did GUYS AND DOLLS) put out a notice canceling their season until further notice.
-
Nobody else here.
-
This is ridiculous!
-
I am all alone here.
-
I assume George is off playing Phase Out.
-
Or, he is watching TV.
-
I am watching STEPHEN COLBERT.
-
And it is not a rerun!
-
U N D E R P A N T S !

Hello

Lovers,
-
Where

You

Are

?
-
I can't stay awake
-
The first show I saw on Broadway was the All-Black Production of HELLO, DOLLY! The production featured Pearl Bailey, Cab Calloway, and a very young Morgan Freeman as Rudy.
-
Hello, Jane.
-
I am sorry you can’t stay
asleep awake.
-
The second show I saw in New York was the Off-Broadway production of BOYS IN THE BAND with the original cast.
-
Time is running out.
-
I must go to bed. I am sorry.
-
I assume George is off playing Phase Out.
I was watching some TV and then I went down the rabbit hole known as YouTube. ::)
;)
-
Good night, Tom.
-
I am watching STEPHEN COLBERT.
I just watched the segment with Laura Benanti as Melania!
-
She's absolutely spot on and hysterical! :))
-
The first show I saw on Broadway was the All-Black Production of HELLO, DOLLY! The production featured Pearl Bailey, Cab Calloway, and a very young Morgan Freeman as Rudy.
The very first show that I saw on Broadway was Swinging on a Star: The Johnny Burke Musical. I loved it!
-
The second show I saw in New York was the Off-Broadway production of BOYS IN THE BAND with the original cast.
That's amazing!
-
I got to see Julie Andrews in Victor/Victoria.
-
I really enjoyed it...more for being able to see Julie Andrews on Broadway and for the overall experience than for the show itself.
-
TCB, you saw Tony Roberts, Melissa Hart, and Bob Holiday in Promises. Edward Winter didn't do the tour.
-
TCB, you saw Tony Roberts, Melissa Hart, and Bob Holiday in Promises. Edward Winter didn't do the tour.
I saw Tony Roberts in Victor/Victoria.
-
Rachel York was fantastic!
-
I was gobsmacked that she wasn't nominated for a Tony Award.
-
Other interesting folks in that Promises tour: Susan Luckey, the original Zaneeta from The Music Man. Jack Kruschen played the role he did in the film of The Apartment, Dr. Dreyfuss, Barney Martin was one of the executives, my friend Annette Cardona was in the ensemble, Donna McKechnie's role was Julane Stites. In the Marian Mercer role, her understudy, Kelly Britt.
