That evening in 2007 was memorable for a couple of additional reasons:  for being stuffed, and roundly embarrassed at how much of my "Woody Allen" I couldn't finish at the Carnegie Deli, and for picking up my current copy of the vocal score to A Little Night Music at COLONY in Times Square.

I find it shocking that people are allowed to buy and put on their own fireworks shows. There are a enough fireworks shows here but it has to be done by the city.

We could see fireworks just below us at the river.  I don'the think they were legal.   I need to find out what the laws are here.  We are pretty sure people were shooting nice was at the park near us.  I preferred knowing they were going in the direction of the river.

My CD arrived today....hopefully I can listen very soon!

Here is a photo from rehearsal last night.  Sandi is on script.  I don't look like I am working, but I am.  I do have a nice spotlight on me, as usual.

Monday Tuesday morning afternoon greetings!  I've been for my 6-month dental check-up, which was uneventful.  After lunch I will take Richard out to do some errands.  He seems to feel better today and is easing back into eating.  I'll roast that chicken for tonight's dinner, but will hold of on the blueberry pie for a couple of days.

Nice photo, DR JRand!  That could be DR Elmore and me, 40 years ago or so...

It's about time to hit this meeting. I hope it's fun and I stay awake.  It will be looooong!

Hope this meeting is going well and we'll have reason to plan a trip to NYC soon!

The collector's print shown at the Ziegfeld was a 35mm IB tech print, not 70mm.  That collector recently passed away.

TOD:

I have never seen Porgy & Bess, only a bootleg of "The Gershwin's Porgy and Bess," which was not exactly the best sung production though I liked Norm Lewis' acting. I couldn't get through 10 minutes of the Trevor Nunn version.

The Houston Opera recording is superb, but I also like the Louis-Ella recording and the one with Lena and Harry Belafonte.

I don't really have enough Copeland to comment, but the score of his Appalachian Spring is beautifully presented in the film with Martha Graham.

This is really interesting.  I'm finding the same controversy on several sites.  For my part, I will almost swear that they said it was 70mm at the showing.  But if it was the Preminger biographer talking, he was NOT the brightest lad when it came to discussing the technologies of film presentation, so never mind that.

What's distinctive is that it was a roadshow print, and the projectionist found it impossible, throughout, to keep one side of the screen in focus.  Can film warp in just that way, or what might have been the cause?  As far as I remember, the print was in good shape otherwise, colors were beautiful, and the sound wonderful.

I turned off the lights at 10:30 and at 130 I was still awake. I really have no idea what's screwing up my sleep patterns,  This does not bode well for today's loooooong meeting, which could be interesting.

Please send vibes! This August reading needs them.

In addition to those mentioned, I have the first REALLY complete recording with the Cleveland Orchestra, the Houston Grand Opera one which I think soon followed, and some single albums -- the Gershwin rehearsal segments, the Belafonte/Horne, the Miles Davis album, symphonic arrangements, etc.  Nothing recent, though.

I saw the Houston Grand Opera production when it played here at the Ahmanson - it was great - saw it twice, actually.
