Well, you've read the notes, the notes were a mess of Massenet, and now it is time for you to post until the miss of cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: BAKSHEESH!
-
I figured out how to fix the calendar, so that's fine again. Wrote another couple of pages, so just two more to go, which I'll do after I shower.
-
I am glad you coukd fix the calendar.
-
Sixteen pages, so that's good. That's it for tonight. I'll listen to a little more music and be in bed early, by two-thirty.
-
The web guy said we'd have to wait until Monday, but I had a feeling it was something simple, so I went into the admin panel, found Calendar, went to that page and they had a year range that the calendar would be good for. It began when the board began, but the final year was set for 2020. So, I changed that to 2025, clicked save and voila, calendar back. I let the web guy know.
-
Good morning, all!
-
It was the night of ankle aches. For some reason my left ankle was not in a good mood last night, and I was awake too much because of it. Some time around 1:45 I finally decided to take a Tramadol - which is really good but it's an opioid and I take it very seldom - and slept fine until 5:00 or so when Annabelle descended from her aerie, and she and Stella decided to wrestle on top of me.
-
I plan to spend the day, if possible, lolling about with my three little kittens and the telly.
-
BK, Massenet, like Gounod, composed a ton of operas, but some like Esclarmonde, written for one of Massenet's mistresses with a trick voice, faded with the singer until Richard Bonynge revived it for Joan Sutherland. I also suspect that Manon was so popular that it eclipsed most of the others.
Manon, like Puccini's Manon Lescaut, is based on the 18th century novel by the Abbé Prévost. I prefer the Massenet over the Puccini.
-
DR JohnG, I am not surprised that so many Republicans still support Trump. That party has only proved in the past four years that their members are not the brightest bulbs in the lamp.
-
BK, you haven't mentioned in your operatic encounters Benjamin Britten, and I've been thinking that, after listening to Krasa's Brundibar, you might like Britten's opera for children and adults, Noye's Fludde. This work really moves me to tears by its imagination, heart, and beauty; by the time the audience joins in singing the Navy Hymn (Eternal Father, strong to save) to calm the animals on the ark during the storm, I'm a complete mess.
Britten's live recording has some echo, but the three adults (Noah, Mrs Noah, and the Voice of God) and the six boys and girls playing Noah's sons and daughters-in-law are, as Goldilocks would say, just right.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Hmm...I have to see if I can help someone with a dying laptop. Back later.
-
Good morning!
-
Sorry to hear about Michael Apted. I thoroughly enjoyed the UP series and, like JohnG, have yet to see 63 Up.
-
Back!
Now, if only I had something brilliant to say...
-
That's never stopped me.
-
I want a possum hat.
-
Thanks for the Balanchine links DR ELMORE. I enjoyed them all. Mr Hershy Kay, if I am correct, did the orchestrations for the original CANDIDE - which is still my favorite recording of the material....
-
.....it could also be that a large percentage of the Republicans have abandoned the party in the last few years......80% of 40 is < than 80% of 100.
-
I changed my affiliation to Independent in 2018.
-
TOD:
ROOT BEER BARRELS and DUM DUM SUCKERS.
-
Perhaps my check will come in the mail today.
-
I am hoping there are a few good bassetball games on today....I haven't checked the schedule.
-

Yes. He also orchestrated the dances and some songs in On The Town, and a lot of shows, including 110 in the Shade. I think he was a genius, but the guys at musicians union, Local 802, told me he was quite the sonofabitch. He once did a show, they claimed, where he hated the producer so much that he changed every song in 4/4 to 2/4 and made twice what he would have.
-
For Caedmon Records, Hershy Kay arranged the music for a very sophisticated and funny album of Mother Goose, with Cyril Ritchard, Celeste Holm, and Boris Karloff. It's one of my most favorite recordings ever. Kay's arrangements are witty and brilliant.

LOL.......you makez your money the way you canz.
-
I think I had that MG album......or my brothers did.
-
Saturday afternoon greetings! I'm about to commence a FaceTime call with my friend Rebecca...
-
Former DR François tagged me on FB with this wonderful dancing treat.

Good Morning - I think I'm about to go out on a bike ride. That's all for now
-
DR Elmore - have you been notified about receiving the coming 13 weeks of PUA unemployment?
-
DR Elmore - have you been notified about receiving the coming 13 weeks of PUA unemployment?
No. In late October I was told I was getting 26 more weeks, which takes me to the end of April.
-
Good afternoon, all.
-
It's been one of those days so far.
-
But we did make it to the supermarket, which was overrun with people.
-
got the makings for another dinner of meatloaf. A farewell dinner gift for Mom.
-
really getting into the novel, The Queen's Gambit. Love the references to old time Lexington, Ky., down to Schillito's department store.
-
TOD:
If it had sugar in it, I ate it.
Always liked things that were more acidic, like LemonHead, SweeTarts or Jolly Ranger-type candies, though I think that brand came along later. Or least my awareness of them happened later.
-
I'm up, I'm up - was up at six-thirty after three hours, then got another three hours - not enough.
-
Another day of "freezing mist." I think this makes six grey, gloomy days in a row.
-
I changed my affiliation to Independent in 2018.
We did that years ago.
-
I re-watched the wonderful dancing with Keith. On his large screen I saw I had missed a lot the first time around.
-
That was a nice clip DR JANE.
-
Thanks Jrand.

Hello all
-
Justvefybusy
-
Just very busy
-
Figured I woukd let you know that I am still alive
-
Znd generally well
-
Also the local Chinese place delivered some absolutely delicious mu shu pork with pancakes and extra hoisin sauce
-
It was delightful
-
Figured I woukd let you know that I am still alive
I for one am glad you are alive :)
-
Znd generally well
This is good.
-
It was delightful
Do they deliver down here?
-
Eight pages so far. Had a Stanley's Chinese chicken salad for food and it was of the usual high quality.
-
Listened to a bit of Manon - I got two different performances, and I may stop listening to this one (got through act one) because I don't love the sound or the cast. It's from 2000 and stars Angela Gheorghiu and her hubby Roberto Alagna. The Beverly Sills version seems to be very well thought of, and that should be here in a day or two.
-
And now for a break.
-
??!?
-
Three!
-
Where is everyone?
-
Hello, 0 guests?
-
Do you know where everyone is?
-
We played Rummikub. Mom won.
-
We also watched the new To Tell the Truth, which really made me laugh.
-
Will I miss TV when I get home? Maybe the news.
-
But I will be glad to get back to my movies.
-
CNN is showing way too many commercials for Stanley Tucci’s new Italian food show.
-
Still 0 guests.
-
I finished my crossword for the day.
-
There, I typed it.
-
And I'm sticking by that story.
-
I have started packing.
-
And I bought my food for the trip back.
-
Mostly nuts and salty snacks.
-
Nothing that leaves too much of anything afterward.
-
Except for Mandarin oranges.
-
They're easy and the bird always enjoys some.
-
I packed up some of Mom's Christmas angels today.
-
I'll be taking the orchestra with me.
-
It has a band stand with a baby grand on the top tier.
-
The music on the conductor's stand and the piano is for Stille Nacht and it is the music.
-
The bassoon player, the trombonist, the tympanist, the tubist -- they're all there.
-
They're all rather beautiful, in a Teutonic kind of way.
-
All of the angels wear short dresses, which show their buttocks when they are seated.
-
I guess it was the style 70 years ago.
-
It's kinda like this, only with more angels and nicer.

-
Also her angels don't have polka dot wings.
-
I don't see how to make that any smaller.
-
Four!
-
Now we have three guests!
-
Hello, y'all!
-
Welcome to my solo show!
-
I'm running outta steam here.
-
But before I go, I had a few things left to say.
-
What is this page four malarkey?
-
Underpants!
-
Cranberries!
-
Gratuitous post No. 99!
-
Good night, all.
-

BK, did it not have the option for a later year? Why stop at 2025? Why not set it for the year 3000 and then you'll never have to worry about it again? Assuming that you can set it for the year 3000.

Yeah but what happens when 3001 rolls around?

Lots of great footwork is shown.

DR John I like your orchestra of angels and look forward to see the even nicer version.
-
Watched a horrible movie, wrote some more pages (eleven so far), and will write the other four after I post the notes and shower.
-
And the word of the day is: BAKSHEESH!
I am really disappointed. I bought this frozen meal that looked tasty, but when I went to nuke it; I found the directions say, do no microwave, you must BAK. SHEESH!
-
Mostly nuts and salty snacks.
I don’t imagine your feathered friend would allow a bucket of KFC.

WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH ME?? WHY CAN'T I COUNT!!
-
George has wandered off.
I has returned!
-
I'm watching One Man, Two Guvnors from the PBS broadcast, starring James Corden.
-
The other night, I was having a dream that I was being chased by someone terrible (like the cast of RENT) when Sasha jumped up on the bed and landed right on my stomach. I screamed so loud, I was afraid the neighbors were going to call the cops.

Yikes! That could cause a scream!
-
Tonight I watched a docudrama called TITANIC: THE AFTERMATH. I don’t think I had seen it before, but there was one part of the story regarding one of the band members who left behind a pregnant fiancé, who was shunned by his family.
-
The main story was about the Mackay-Bennett, the ship that was hired by the White Star line to sail out and collect any bodies they found. When the ship sailed, they had no idea how many people had died, so the ship left port with 113 coffins.
-
Obviously, they were under-prepared for the 1,500 who drowned.

Oh, my!
-
Go ahead, Tom...take us to the REAL Page Six! ;)
-
Of course, by the time they arrived at the assumed wreck site, A lot of the bodies had floated away, but still they recovered enough to fill all the coffins, including the body of John Jacob Astor.
