Well, you've read the notes, the notes veered to the right and were still dippy, and now it is time for you to post until the dippy cows come home.

Great news about Cabaret!  Our audience last night was wonderful!  There were quite a few people who have worked with TAO, so they are actors and also got Shakespeare...that's always a good thing.  There was a lot of laughter during the show.  The show went a little long, about 10 minutes longer than last night, but that wasn't so bad because the audience still loved it.

We went to Jerry's Deli, where we were told it was a twenty-five minute wait.  We beat it out of there and went to Du-Par's.  I had a club sandich, a salad, and fries.  Miss Adriana Patti had something called chicken strips, Miss Karen had something called scrambled eggs, and Mr. Murphy had a hamburger.

Thanks to all for their continued theatre reports!  Glad our two performing DRs had great shows.  Glad we will eventually be able to see the Company revival in our own homes - though a video never really captures the true experience of being there in the theatre.  Will be anxious to hear DR MBarnum's impressions of Broadway.

Questions for DRs to answer if they wish. (We've been down this or similar roads before)
I wonder what are the best selling film soundtracks other than those associated with song scores or adaptations of classical music.

Which soundtracks really captured the public imagination as "Stand Alone" albums that the general public really played as they would have a "regular" album. I'm guessing "Doctor Zhivago" would be way up in the list. Maybe "Midnight Express" as well. I tend not to play Cds of Soundtracks very often (except for adaptations and song filled ones), but "The Mission" and "Caravans" certainly are played often.

I guess I'd like to see the Broadcast of "Company" though I still find the whole idea of this version offputting.  I quite enjoy the recorded version from a London production a few years back. (The Donmar one?) I certainly had no desire to see the "new" Sweeney Todd.

Good morning, DR Tomovoz and all! I was awake at 6:45 after dreams about buying new office supplies for my desk. I also have a vague memory of the dream's ending in a live television program like "The Price Is Right," but it's too vague.

I have to be in Toyland around 9:30, so I'm enjoying a liesurely morning and listening to Dvorak's Mass in D. Now that DR MBarnum has abandoned me for DR Rodzinski,  I'm back to self-employment mode: I have to dig out of the rubble a score to be proofed for my publisher and I have some work to commence for Mr Kevin Spirtas.

DR tomovoz, I would guess "Around the World In Eighty Days."

My bigggest pet peeve: people who insist on conducting their private business, battles, affairs, etc loudly and publicly on cell phones.

Likewise avoiding the Amadeus and 2001 scores.

I guess I didn't read very well....

OH!!

Hmmmm.....I like Neal Hefti's HARLOW score, which I listen to a LOT....but probably few other people do.

I also like Elmer Bernstein's WALK ON THE WILD SIDE....and I think Mancini sold a lot of PETER GUNN and BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S lp's!

I loved the CD for THE PRIME OF MISS JEAN BRODIE, but that had a song or two on it.  Does it count?

I also played the CD of A BOY NAMED CHARLIE BROWN a lot, more for the instrumentals than the songs.

Guess I liked Rod McKuen albums when I was a kid, but more for the instrumentals by other people than for the McKuen numbers.

I don't know if that will now happen, unless DR MBarnum can find someone to accompany him.  Tonight we're a;; meeting at John's Pizza around 5:15.

My plans have changed and I will not go to Toyland this morning. Now that DR MBarnum is out of the apartment, I'm fumigating - I mean, I'm doing the laundry and other small household chores before I begin messing up the place again.

OH!...

Here's a bit of Shakespeare ;) to help start off your day:

The Hokey Pokey, by William Shakespeare:

O proud left foot, that ventures quick within
Then soon upon a backward journey lithe.
Anon, once more the gesture, then begin:
Command sinistral pedestal to writhe.
Commence thou then the fervid Hokey-Poke,
A mad gyration, hips in wanton swirl.
To spin! A wilde release from Heavens yoke.
Blessed dervish! Surely canst go, girl.
The Hoke, the poke - banish now thy doubt
Verily, I say, 'tis what it's all about.

:)

*That's from a Washington Post Style Section Contest from a few years ago where you had to "describe" a certain activity in a Shakespearean manner.  That was the winning entry.

I was having a good night of sleep until a nightmare woke me up, and I'm afraid I must put the blame for the nightmare on director Hiroshi Teshigahara. After watching WOMAN IN THE DUNES last night, I dreamed I was in a sand dune with another guy (no one from the movie), and we were smoothing out the sand with our hands. All of a sudden, as he was shifting the sand with his right hand, it fell off his wrist and was just lying there in the sand. He continued moving sand around with the end of his wrist, and I just sat there and stared at that unmoving hand in the sand.

Hand in the Sand - a good novel title perhaps?

Sunday morning greetings!  Can't stay long, because I'm due to meet DH Richard at the church next door for mass in about 15 minutes.

We, too, enjoyed the festivities at Fred & Skip's yesterday - the meal was outstanding and the company sparkling, as ever.  Curtains was such fun - the seats were great.  It was such a thrill to visit Karen's dressing room.  She was so gracious to DR Elmore's entourage.

In the afternoon, Richard and I had seen Inherit the Wind from 'way up in the balcony.  Once I saw the staging, I was just as glad we weren't sitting on the stage.  The show was so well done and more humorous than I'd expected.

Today, we're just going to wander around Times Square and shop a little before meeting at John's Pizza at 5:15 and then see The Fantasticks this evening.  Maybe we'll find a shady spot to have a cool drink and read our books and people-watch.  DR Jose, call me if you want to relax with us!

Look at the 50 sountracks article. West Side Story is there but Sondheim is not mentioned but they credit him as a co-writer of Bernstein's On the Waterfront score.

In the 1980's my biggest pet peeve was women who could not  differentiate between good manners and sexism. Now I would think it would be cell phone "Behaviour".

And I forced you to listen to me as I tested my new Bluetooth & repeatedly gave it verbal commands while calling someone ;D

I've since learned, just because I have the Bluetooth connected doesn't mean I can't manually push a phone number-thank goodness cuz that sure was embarrassing.

Also smokers who throw their used cigarette butts out the car window or just toss them on the ground.

I have seen some of the signs you have posted in public restrooms:

PLEASE DO NOT THROW YOUR CIGARETTE BUTTS IN THE URINAL!

THEY GET WET AND SOGGY, AND ARE HARD TO LIGHT!

Sounds like a metaphor for a Seaside Bris.

Pet Peeve: anyone who stops dead in his tracks (grocery store, in traffic, walking on a narrow street) because he's so involved in a cell phone conversation that he notices nothing around him that he's interferring with.

Not in LA - they just keep on talking and driving!

Another pet peeve. Especially in Florida.

Driving.
People single to turn right and then turn left.

People cut in front of you at a red light so they go before you

Driving from lane to lane with out singling on the 1-95

Not to mention retirees expiring at the wheel!

Nebraska Archdiocese Sues Nun Accused of Stealing Church Funds
Sunday , July 01, 2007
 OMAHA, Neb. —

In addition to a lawsuit against a nun accused of stealing church money, the Omaha Archdiocese has filed more lawsuits against her and some family members.

In April the archdiocese sued Sister Barbara Markey in an effort to recover $820,000 the archdiocese says she stole as director of the archdiocese's Catholic Family Life Office.

Good afternoon!  I'm up, alive and feeling fabulous.  Yesterday was a long but fun day.  I spent many hours sititng in the shade and sipping beer while listening to good music and having some fun conversations.   Every year my friends do something fun in their front yard, which is a path to the festival.  This year it was ribbons with thoughts on them The rules were something profound, profane or mundane...which of course means anything.  It was quite fun seeing total strangers come up on the porch to write their thoughts and tie them to a stick.

I, too, am annoyed at much cell phone behavior, especially loud talking while in public, with no consideration for those nearby.

While grocery shopping I come across many people who leave their shopping carts in the middle of the aisle, oblivious to others.

I meant to mention something about the other night's NYC HHW gathering.  It is a slightly surreal experience, at least for me, meeting people in person that you feel you already know from online.  Those I had not already met I recognized instantly from their avatars [or, in DR Rodzinksi's case, from previously posted photos from other gatherings!].  In any case, the feeling soon vanishes, as the folks turn out to be pretty much what you'd expect from getting to know them online - wonderful, talented, outgoing, and warm that they are!  :)

Good Afternoon!

Well, since I was done at 2:00, and had wandered and wondered around Times Square for a bit already, I decided to head back uptown to my apartment for a little break.

Rehearsal today went well, although, I do have to admit to being a bit tired today.  Playing "Music & The Mirror" four times in a row was rough enough as it was, but then having to switch gears and basically play through the whole show for the incoming Al...  Whew!

*I also need to bring a jacket with me, it's actually on the cool side today, and I'm sure it will feel almost chilly later tonight.

There's a featurette on the second disc about the genesis of the series and its ultimate fate. At least the producer was honest enough to admit that the show was made for HBO, but when HBO wouldn't pay them the excessive fees they wanted, they sold out to Fox for the money. Had it been on HBO, it still would be running undoubtedly, but because of greed, they got a 13 episode run( and actually only a 10 episode run; three shows never aired), and the gravy train was over.

I meant to add that I didn't find LAND OF THE PHAROAHS campy, just poor. Dewey Martin certainly looked lovely.

The transfer was OK; sharpness varied from good to fair; color was mostly good but looked a bit flat and dated in some shots. I did appreciate the Dolby Surround track.

the only flat and dated color in Land Of The Pharoes are on the opticals, which is to be expected.  It's actually a perfect transfer, color-wise.  Most of it is sharp, but as I said, the mid to long shots are problematic.

DR Edisauras - I didn't mention "Midnight Cowboy".  I love "Everybody's Talkin' " but think "I Guess The Lord Must Be In New York City" should have been used.

I really should check and see which original film scores I had on LP I bothered to replace with a CD. There would not be many.

I've still not tried that "linK'.  "Dances With Wolves" would have sold well.

Just checked it! That's mostly the scores I was trying to avoid in my question!  Great and effective scores but, except for the musicals and collections of songs, does anyone play them?

Some scores were really just bought for a theme song or major theme. (Chariots Of Fire). I collected all the James Bond songs but I only own one Soundtrack LP of a Bond Film. (Live & Let Die).

The Bond comment  was a subtle DR Jose reference(Did you ever repost the mail as it didn't arrive in OZ?).

Jose, the cookie (we have only eaten one so far) was faboo!!!

We are being good boys, having eaten far too much over the past couple of weeks. We split the Oatmeal Raisin cookie after dinner yesterday and it was amazing. The Chocolate Chip cookie will also be split in half (and probably nuked for a few seconds to take the chill off of the chips) and savoured just as the OR cookie was savoured.

Sorry that we couldn't make either gathering today. It's been a busy weekend and it just didn't work out. We did have a great time at breakfast yesterday. What a grand way to send MusicGuy back to Arizona. He's a gem of a guy and those of you who have not yet met him have a treat in store when you finally do (meet him).

Hope the pizza party was fun. I look forward to September when more partying will rock NY.

Yes, I'm not thrilled with that credit either, elmore.  I'm still hoping I hear from Josh Clayton, and I'll be talking to a couple of folks Jose recommended.

I don't have an email or phone for Robbie Stamper who did THE SINGING NUN; I've put out a request for contact info.

DR Ben, the pizza partay at John's Pizzeria was quite festive but DR Jose and I were definitely dragging our tails from fatigue.  DRs MBarnum and Jose left for AVENUE Q, DR Ginny and Richard left for THE FANTASTICKS and I caught a taxi home.

I spent most of the day cleaning and throwing out things: I have five cartons of books, music, and videos to cart down to the library of the Gay & Lesbian Community Center during the week. I also took four cartons of books, music and videos down to the basement for my handyman George to sell in his flea markets. I hope to talk to George this week about rebuilding the other wall of bookcases before they too collapse.

Pet Peeve....all the presidential nominees calling me and calling me and calling me.  I just hung up on Hillary.  Seriously, they are recorded messages and drive me crazy. That and the calls asking who I plan to vote for in the Caucuses. They aren't until Januarry, thank you very much. And besides it really isnt' a "vote" it's a caucus to determine delegates who can change their minds and go for someone else later.

That reminds me, I need to go online and do the eval of the store.  I am a little ticked at one of the people who works there. Last time I was in I asked her if a tensel skirt (looks like a denim skirt) would possibly be going on sale soon.  She told me that item never goes on sale.  Today it was about 70 percent off. Now, if she had said, "I don't know" it would be fine, but I bought it at full price because I really wanted it and she assured me it wouldn't be part of the sale...she will be included in my evaluation.

It wasn't until I got to the second floor that I saw any actual M & M's.  Most of the first floor was all kinds of stuff that we don't need with the M & M's logo on it.  Our favorite part was the curly-headed little girl telling her father, "The second floor, Daddy.  That's where the A-a-a-a-a-ction is!"

DH Richard and I are back from The Fantasticks, which was sweet and simple.  It's nice occassionally to be up close to the actors and hear their voices unmiked.  I wasn't crazy about El Gallo - he was a little too smarmy for me.  As a director, DR Elmore gave his Mute a lot more to do than the director of the show we saw tonight.  But Elmore didn't make me pole dance.

Pet peeve - parents who take children to the theatre who don't know how to behave.  Richard was on the aisle, I was second, and a family of 5 sat to my left - Mom, Dad, 2 teenage girls, and a boy about 10.  They put the boy next to me and he wiggled the whole time.  He had on these huge hiking boot-type shoes and kept kicking me.  Considerate parents would have sat on either side of him and monitored his behavior.

No one has commented on why people veer to the right when going over a dip in the road.

People think that the normally traveled portion of the road will have deeper dips than the less traveled portion..i.e. the right side, so they veer thinking there will be less of a dip..

When I was little and we saw a "Dip" sign, I'd ask my brother what he was doing along side the road....ok, he'd ask me if he saw it first

Pet Peeves:
People who talk on their cell phones---in the movie theatre or in a restaurant.

People who can't talk on their cell phones and drive at the same time.

Cars with extremely loud, thumping stereo systems and their idiot owners who will be deaf in a few years.

People who litter, especially cigarette butts. Last night someone crused by my house and threw a 22 oz beer bottle at my car, and it busted right behind my rear tires. Fortunately I heard it so I didn't just roll over it the next morning, but I still had to get up early to clean it up.

Telemarketers who call way too early and wake me up the one morning I have a chance to sleep in.

People who realize they're in the wrong lane and sit there blocking traffic until someone will let them in to the right lane, totally interrupting the flow of traffic because of their selfish stupidity. Likewise, the people who run the light and then sit in the middle of the intersection, blocking the people who have been patiently waiting for the light to change.

People who never call to hire you and then call when they need something edited/recorded for free. (MY DH and I both get this. We do enough free stuff for people we like! And of course, if you do the job, the person will not remember you when they get a paying job.)

Developers and politicians with a sense of "entitlement" who make decisions solely based on what will benefit them the most.

People who drag race down my street, despite the little kids and animals who play in the street.

That's Why I Love Mankind!

t as good as what we'd already done ourselves. How disappointing. He came with the highest recommendations from a very picky client of mine.

So we spent today painting.

Overall, a real disappointment. (And that seducing your own wife angle has been done in movies and TV from THE BARKLEYS OF BROADWAY to THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW.)

I also watched the James Quandt critical analysis of the movie, and, of course, being a rabid fan of it, tends to overlook its weaknesses and shriek about its strengths. I don't blame him for writing such a passionate defense of something he obviously loves, but how he can prefer this to WOMAN IN THE DUNES I just don't know. To each his own.

They are not available at all in North Dakota or parts of Minnesota.

People lined up for 2 days in Sioux City. Most of the people interviewed on TV said they were buying them to resell them on eBay

I have already seen some on ebay. AT&T does not service ND or parts of MN where IPHONES would be used.

Cingular which was bought by AT&T never was available and taht is what the service is through.

I thought this was funny By Jon Markman
As everyone on the planet knows by now, Apple (AAPL, news, msgs) will release a drug on Friday that cures cancer, fixes broken bones and freshens your breath. No, sorry, I mean the company will release a definitive solution to world peace. No, that's not right either. It has solved the mystery of death, and on Friday it will simultaneously resurrect Albert Einstein, Jimi Hendrix and Princess Diana.

Well, actually, I guess that's not true either. Apple's got something bigger than that in mind. It's going to release a brand-new cell phone, called the iPhone! Which has a built-in camera! And accesses the Web! And has a touch screen!

I know you can just barely contain your excitement. I pretty much feel the same way---

Pet peeves

Drivers who have no clue what a stoplight or stop sign are for...

Manners of some cell phone users who have no concept of propriety or respect for others. They lack curtesy and discretion.
Title: Re:THE DIP IN THE ROAD

Another pet peeve is rude people who come to the desk and order to be served when they are on their cell phone.

The other is when Iam shopping and parents let their kids run amuck with shopping carts and among the merchandise and the parents do nothing.

My other one is people in stores who treat me like trash due to being hearing impaired and communicate with me like I was three years old. I may be HOH but I am not stupid!

I agree with on most of these. However I know I do play somethings loud but I try not to... My hearing is declining due to having Measles when I was a kid.

And a good report on George's show, too!

Thanks, DearReaderLaura!  Today's performance was pretty good.  The audience however, was smaller than the cast. ::) There are about 19 or 20 people in our show, but for today's matinee, there were only 13 people in the audience...but that was only for the first act!  We lost two people after intermission. :-\ Fortunately, they were a good audience throughout the whole show. :)

This is funny!  I saved it and will bring it to our pick-up rehearsal on Thursday.  We don't have another performance until Friday, but one of the actresses won't be able to do the show at all next weekend.  Her understudy is already in the show and has learned the part (and is a pretty good actress, to begin with), so all she will really need is the one rehearsal with the cast.

Good evening all the DRs and H/Ks et al......

I just thought I'd say a little "goodnight" before retiring.  And I have noticed one very glaring omission.....  Oh yes, very glaring...

Why has there not been a single picture posted of dear Boo-key in his Cabaret Emcee costume??  He had to be cute as a lecherous little devil..... and he knows he's gonna get ogled and commented on.  After all, at M & F (when we all had dinner) I told him that he got to have an "honorary" gay card because of his wit and style!

And of course, I'm not asking because I care at all..... It's just that I know that dear DR Jose would probably like to see the picture..... :)

As for Avenue Q - The show is still in good shape.  I had just seen the show again a few months ago, but a couple of new people had joined the company since then, so it was almost like seeing the show anew.  ;)  There are still some small bits of business that I miss - they made some tweaks after the Vegas and London openings - but, all in all, a good show tonight.

This is very true!!  I totally felt comfortable with Jeff (JMK, and his DW Betsy), Jane (and her DH Keith) and Michael (MBarnum) the first time that we all met in person.

Today's mid-day movie here is "My Louisiana Sky".  The writer received a Humanitus award for the writing.  The same writer has won this year's award!  I know that will mean something to a few DRs. Wow!

Great news for Panni/Maria/Anna!  Here's what it says on the HUMANITAS website (http://www.humanitasprize.org/):

Children's Live Action Category ($25,000)
MOLLY: An American Girl on the Home Front Teleplay by: Anna Sandor (Disney Channel)
Set in 1943, when Emily, a young girl from war-torn Britain, comes to live with the
McIntire family, Molly is forced to confront the ugly reality of war. Cited "for its
sensitive exploration of the pain and suffering that comes with war in the families left behind
."
