That's because the Pilgrims had that great romance, and the Shakers didn't.

(The Shakers believed in celibacy, of course.)

"Tis The Gift to be Simple-Tis the Gift to be Free" A wonderful Shaker song called SIMPLE GIFTS that AARON COPLAND adopted in his wonderful APPALACHIAN SPRING.
I was fortunate in my younger years to attend for three years SHAKER VILLAGE WORK CAMP in The Berkshires. It was a dream of Jerome and Sybil Count to have Teenagers perserve a Shaker
Village and give us the opportunity to also express our artistic talents. It was a magnificent experience which I will never forget

I think she is already a saint.

Oh, you should have been a fly on the wall at the meeting yesterday. I have never seen people turn on me like that.

You shouldn't really say such things on HHW, since you know some DR might easily take that out of context.

that is sad, especially at family gatherings.  i know because my sister was very difficult, to put it mildly.

I have been watching BRIDEZILLA - and appreciating my sisters and nieces even more than I ever did...and that's a lot.

How many brothers and sisters does everyone have?

I have four brothers and three sisters!

Michael, [Jack], Paula, Myrna, Dane, Kent, David, and Molly

I have one sister.  My three younger brothers each died mysteriously on their first birthday. ;)

And now I have finished the book, too.  Really enjoyed it...great fun.

And I didn't see the outcome until it was revealed!   :D

bk, doesn't it drive you crazy to work on a book for the better part of a year and to then see it devoured in a few hours?  Sort of like Thanksgiving dinner, but on a grander scale...

It takes you a year to cook Thanksgiving dinner?

If Richard Hatch had appeared on The Amazing Race instead of Survivor, would that have made him a TARheel?

Step One: Take the turkey out of the freezer.

Oh-oh, don't tell DS Betsy department:  My lovely wife left for a business trip to Bend for a few days.  I took the kids to Freddy's to buy some extremely nutritious fare like Kid's Cuisine, and happened to check in to Home Electronics, where they've had some Samsung HDTV's on clearance (reduced price, plus 20% off).  I had said I'd get one if the % off increased, and lo and behold, it was up to 30% today.  So I got a nice 32 inch Samsung (with fantastic reviews--I've done a bit of internet poking around, LOL, before thinking of the purchase) with built in tuner, two HDMI inputs (which means a hi-def DVD player is no doubt in my future) for around $600.  I'm really happy.

Had a momentary worry when I wasn't receiving the 480i & p definitions (don't you hate it when that happens), but it turns out this tv requires my DirectTV "native" setting to be off for it to get those resolutions (I'm sure you knew that--well at least MattH did ;) ).

No, that is why I said "sort of...on a grander scale."   :)

Although I probably would fret and worry about it for a year, if I ever had to do such a thing!

But seriously, I have only the one sister, who is three years older than I am.  We survived my Mom's death, the trials, the lawsuits, the settling of the estate, and we still sit right next to each other at work every day.  I guess you would say we get along.

I don't think I will ever buy an HDTV unless I can afford someone to install and calibrate it for me.

So, dog owners, be sure your dog has a tag with a current cell phone number on it. And keep your phone on if you lose your dog! Someone might call.

I just don't go when she's there

I couldn't do that & could only hope she wouldn't show.  As my father got older family gatherings were often at her house, once she kicked me out near the end of the evening after I had said something nice to her.  Most often at the gatherings the time would come when she would yell at me.

Now when I go to see my family I don't leave with a stomach ache.
