Well, you've read the notes, the notes did not go bad, and now it is time for you to post until the bad cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: SHOFAR!
-
Hi
-
First post after Jane.
-
I fell right to sleep and was awake again by 11:30 ::)
-
Back to my book.
-
Gratuitous Post #6!
;)
-
Good morning, all!
-
I had to be up early to be ready for the War Veterans picking up my clothing donation.
-
DR Jeanne, thanks for last night's birthday greetings. I am sorry I missed you.
-
This morning I am wiping the hard drive of my old iMac for Val. The housecleaning will continue until around 4:00PM, then I shall prepare for tonight's birthday bash with Rob and Joshie.
-
DR TCB, that was a beautiful tag. I must go to FB and look up the photo.
-
I miss Artie's: When good delis go dead. I can't even think of a good Jewish deli at this point. DR Jane and I were lucky to get to the 2nd Avenue Deli before it closed, the Carnegie Deli has gone the way of all flesh, I believe.
-
BK,
You're lucky. At least, you have a real Jewish deli in Los Angeles.
Here in Austin, we have wannabe Jewish delis.
:( :( :(
-
First on the East coast after Elmore!
-
George - so that there can be a copy of the show, maybe the actors would be willing to come in and speak or read the show (carefully synching it to the video while watching, even just for a few key scenes) so that something special could be in the archives for this particularly successful run?
-
I made a deal yesterday for an actor to do an audio recording of my one-person play, (Errol) FLYNN.
That makes audio versions of five (5) of my one-person plays currently in production. The other four are (Clark) GABLE, (Carole) LOMBARD, (Spencer) TRACY and (Basil) RATHBONE.
It's a bit of a juggling act for me, particularly since two of the actors are in the UK, but (hopefully) all five will be finished and available for holiday giving.
-
Good morning to all
-
WORD OF THE DAY
The dumb girl who was a goy married a wealthy Jewish man. It was the high holidays and he was so excited because he was going to blow the shofar. The girl divorced him. She misunderstood.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Dead tired today. Fortunately, there's very little I absolutely have to do prior to heading to the theater this evening.
-
ROSH HASHANA!
-
I do not know from delis. I did eat at the Carnegie Deli once when I was in NYC back in the 20th century.
And when MR BK & DR CHARLESEPOGUE were in Indianpolis in 2004, we took them to Shapiro's in Indianapolis. I don't remember that MR BK said anything in particular about the food - he bought everyone's dinner - but he was interested to see some real Indiana Jews - some of whom came in about half way through our meal.....
-
Enjoying hearing how LEVI is coming together! I hope you see some sketches you like today....and that the guys are good!
-
In all of the excitement over DR ELMORE's natal day, I forgot to mention the 104th birthday of Miss Frances Farmer yesterday.

Wednesday morning greetings! Richard and I are going tonight to the first in a 3-part seminar in elder law. I think there will be info I could have used over the last several years in caring for Mom, but it will still be helpful as we approach our own golden years.
-

DR Elmore, have you been to Fine & Shapiro on West 72nd, between Amsterdam and Columbus? We stumbled across it after one of the NYC Kritzerland shows as we were walking back to our apartment on 69th St.
-
The deli situation in NYC is absolutely horrible, with the loss of the Stage (I think that was the first big one to go), Second Avenue Deli, Carnegie Deli, one on 57th and Sixth whose name I never remembered (did it start with "L"? - something like "Lenny's?), the most recent blow of the infuriating overnight loss of Artie's, and I believe even a few others in Manhattan that were INSTITUTIONS for decades. It's a rotten situation. I'd say "inexplicable", but mostly it's just rotten as many of these losses are about commercial rents and the abysmal failure to control them to any extent in order to preserve things that were unique about NYC.
Sorry to hear about the Nate 'n Al's visit, but observing from afar, and in my ignorance, I'd attribute that at least partly to the loss of nearly all that was good about the Golden Triangle of Beverly Hills. One can always hope it was just the luck of the draw, but the waitress's attitude is a bad sign. Also, and I mean nothing sexist about this, but didn't they used to always employ the more stereotypical male waiters who had been there for a hundred years?
-
Happy belated birthday DR Elmore!
-
Ask BK:
I think you've said you don't like Art's in Studio City. Wouldn't it at least provide the vibe and (hopefully) some of the taste of the real thing? Are the regulars a decent crowd? I've only been there a few times and have probably just had the pastrami on rye, cole slaw on the side, and coffee or a Coke (my defaults), perhaps a slice of cheesecake, but for me it had the vibe and as far as I know I was happy with the food.
-
Happy belated birthday DR Elmore!
Thank you, DR Jenifer!
-
!! 2 !!

Thank you for taking me there. It was a real treat. I also had the pleasure of experiencing Arts. It is sad they are all gone.
-
DR Ginny, I have been there. Former DR PennyO and I were there several times.
-
DR DRUXY, good vibes for your recording.
-
Yes, more recording vibes for Druxy!

One of the last times I was at my all time favorite deli, Nate 'not Al's, our waitress who had been there forever whispered the coleslaw is no longer the same. I rarely remember male waiters. The men were usually behind the counter.
-
It still breaks my heart that I can no longer get the best coleslaw ever. Once Nate and Alaska were gone it became inconsistent and then eventually consistently not the same as what I had been eating my entire life :(

Art's has a fine vibe and some things there are fine - just not the pastrami or corned beef. But I haven't been there in a decade.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I hate it when good restaurants start circling the drain.
-
I'm up, I'm up - maybe five-and-a-half hours of sleep.
-
Loved the Levi logo.
-
Recording vibes for Druxy.
-
Hope the kidney twinge last night was just a fluke (not the fish). Feel good so far.
-
Jake LaMotta has died at age 95. I bought Raging Bull a few weeks ago. I may have to watch it now.
-
I had to find the keyboard for the old computer and that took me longer than I thought. I cannot open the portal for the battery and that bothers me, since I was the one who opened it last and now it's jammed. I hope Val can open ut and replace the battery. I'd hate to have him buy a keyboard.
-

I blame the coleslaw going down the drain on the grandsons.
-
Factor's went downhill for a lot of years and has returned so there is still hope for Nate 'n Al's.

I hope so.

Good morning.
-
DR ELMORE - even here in the wilderness there are always tons of APPLE keyboards at the thrift shops!
But my guess is that Val will be able to open it up.
-
My question for ASK BK DAY:
If you could own the director's script and notes from any film or play or musical, which one would it be?
-
Hello, all. I am alive and well and living in Johnston SC.
My laptop arrived this afternoon, and I just made the WiFi connection.
Belated birthday greetings (on this here blog, that is) to DR Elmo. I sent him a FB greeting, but it never seems official until it's done here.
I feel like I'm visiting, even though many of my things have arrived via USPS and UPS. My household goods arrive Oct. 10th, and that includes my plasma TV and all my movies and CDs (except for a few I've received here over the past six weeks).
I have no dirt as of yet. Probably won't be much. More like folksy observations of things that weird me out after 24 years in California.
The food has been really good, though.
-
I understand there was a minor quake in LA. I'm happy to say that we don't have those very often over here. They DO happen, of course, but nothing as major as all the faults at work in CA.
We do get hurricanes, of sorts. Johnston got 5 inches of rain off tropical storm (formerly Hurricane) Irma. And the winds blew and howled, according to locals.
I was following DR Michael Shayne's evacuation of Florida during Irma and noted his return this past weekend. Haven't caught up yet, so I don't know what he found when he got home.
-
It is truly odd being on EDT.
-
Best wishes to everyone here. Glad to be back among the cognoscenti.
-
Back from a patty melt and side Caesar salad and picking up a couple of packages.
-
Listening to a composer completely new to me - I've never heard one note of this person's music - but whilst writing the notes for the Claus Ogerman CD Ogerman lists this man as one of his two main musical influences - the other being Scriabin. This fellow is named Max Reger. I'm listening to disc once of this set - and yes, while some of the music is not Ogerman-esque at all, some of it absolutely has the same sort of orchestral color that Ogerman has. Interesting to hear this stuff and I like this guy so far.
-
DR Ron it is nice to see you posting again. Oct 10th is a long time to wait for your household goods. Since you were in a position to wait did you find a more economical method of shipment, such as a shipping pod?
-
We headed out for a walk in rather nice weather and a bit of protection in case it rained. We weren't expecting a monsoon or thunder & lightning ;D

Reger's most famous composition is the Christmas song, "The Virgin's Slumber Song."

Welcome back, Ron!

Glad that DR RLP is back among us....and adjusting to his new home.
Do you have your own place or are you sharing digs with family?

No pod, but all things considered, I got 1,040 cu.ft. shipped at $4,200.

My mom put her house into my name a few years ago. I am sharing the house with her. She has given up the master BR and bath to me. It's an adjustment for her. I'm free to do whatever I want to make it "my" home.

Actually, that was just suggested this morning, so we'll see if that happens. I told our stage manager to make sure that the sound board plot isn't deleted! But, of course, someone has to know how to do it for it to happen.

Great to have you back, Ron P!

Thanks for all the well wishes!

An adjustment, and very nice of her. Of course she gladly did it to have you home with her. Did she make any modifications to her new bedroom before moving into it?

Just watched my Angie episode. It's really funny - one of my favorite things I ever did for television. As those who've read my book know, when I got to the reading I looked at the script, turned around and walked out - there were like five lines of dialogue or something and I was just done with that kind of thing. I called my manager and she yelled at me to get my butt cheeks back in there and actually read the thing rather than count lines. I did and boy was she right - all reaction comedy. I went in and read (or reacted), got it on the spot, and had the best time.
-
Yup, good for your agent.
-
I finally spent the time to figure out how to stop videos from automatically playing on facebook. It is embarrassing when I am in public using my phone.
-
Considering my phone is small I can't really see them there anyway.
-
Thank you DR RLP - it sounds like a lovely living arrangement. I, too, share a home with my mother.....it is nice to do things for her after all the years she spent doing things for me.....

This is very moving. I wish we had hearts in our emojis.

Page three? Really?

Had a lovely dinner with some Chinese friends tonight. They chattered on. I cleared plates of garlicky noodles, salt and pepper calamari, wonton soup, tea-smoked duck and a hot pot with the most amazing mushrooms and slabs of lotus root. Plenty of ginger and garlic, plus some coriander seeds. Yum.
-
Watching the last of The Trip. Sadly, the library copy isn't very good.
-
Been listening to a fun book on writing called Do I Make Myself Clear? It's by Harold Evans, and it's all about how to write to be understood. I wonder what would have happened if he had grabbed Virginia Woolf by the literary throat.
-
The Ministry of Utmost Happiness by Arundhati Roy just arrived to listen to. I guess that's next.
-
Why not move along?
-
Four!
-
Page four? Really?
-
I have started to watch Paris Blues. Paul Newman, Louis Armstrong, a Duke Ellington score. Why haven't I seen this before?
-
There's a fun interview with director Stephen Frears on rogerebert.com in advance of his new "Victoria & Abdul," which looks great.
-
Off to bed.
-
Belated birthday wishes to Elmore I hope it was happy
-
I have been inordinately tired the past few days falling asleep in the chair shortly after arriving at home
-
Work has been busy and we had 4 people out yesterday, 3 the day before
-
Hoping the next two days will be quiet with Rosh Hassanah
-
Happy Roshashannah to those that observe
-
Happy settling into your retirement vibes for Ron
-
I am not caught up
-
But I must go to bed faking asleep again
-
Finished with my viewing.
-
Freshly box arrived today and I'm having the lowest calorie meal of the six - 470.
-
What is this page four malarky?
-
Thank you DR Vixmom.
-
Good evening!
-
Page 4? Really?
-
Best news of the day!
Ron is back!!
-
Today was fun.
-
My friend, Ken, and I went to the
Puyallup Western Washington Washington State Fair.
-
Naturally, I had to eat what I would normally not eat anywhere else - two cheeseburgers piled with fried onions and nothing else on them but mustard.
-
I was in heaven.
-
Even after paying $6.75 per burger.
-
I also had a couple of scones, plus one more for breakfast in the morning.
-
I bought a great new Seahawk t-shirt (for far too much money), but I had never seen this one before.
-
Plus I bought a new pair of sheepskin-lined slippers, which I can't wait to use.
-
And I got to try some of those virtual reality glasses, which was really a trip!
-
One more post.
-
Page 5
-
Page 5? Really?
-
Page 5? Really?
Well, someone had to say it.
-
The only bad part of the fair was that it was raining the whole time we were there.
-
UNTIL, we got into the car to drive home.
-
And then, the clouds parted and the blue skies returned .
-

Don't you hate it when that happens?

I haven't. Is it good?
-
I really enjoyed it plus it has some nice eye candy.
-
It is available on Hulu, but you might check On Demand.
-
I really enjoyed that film, and I also loved THE PERFECT WEDDING.
-
I just checked the Amazon listing (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00X6IQYPI/) and the actors are very attractive.
;)

I've added it to my watchlist.

It says it is available to watch for Amazon Prime members.

I actually bought the 3rd season of "High School Reunion (https://www.amazon.com/gp/video/detail/B0032UR0YE/ref=dv_web_yvl_list_pr_2) because I found out the new (since last year) business manager at the library was on that season. He's Eric, "The Gay Guy!" ;D
