While I was out doing errands I took a long walk in the park.  I wish I had taken my camera, not only for the beautiful photos I missed but for the belt I would have worn to slip the camera on.  I kind of needed that belt today. ;D

Agree with Detective Story (basically what I wrote about the film several weeks ago), but not about Darling Lili, either transfer or content (as I also wrote several weeks ago) - I find Lili a complete mess at any length because it simply doesn't know what kind of film it wants to be, and therefore it ends up being five films.  It has its moments, but you don't care one whit about one of these characters (I mean, the leading lady is a German SPY) .  What it has going for it is Julie singing, and its production design, photography, and Blake's wonderful direction.  The transfer is very sharp, but the color, while vibrant for some colors, is completely off for the flesh tones, which look anemic and brown and don't resemble at all what flesh tones look like on film.  Any perusal of a properly-timed transfer will tell you the story.

I only saw Darling Lili once, when it came out, and that was exactly my feelings then! I thought I was in for a musical comedy which it's not really! And Julie as a spy is as believable as Julie as a transvestite!
BUT I think she's never been lovelier than in this film along with STAR!

Just IMHO of course!

"(Chante Comme) Les P'tits Oiseaux!" (the tedious "bird song") is sung - badly - by children of the LA Petit Lycée Français and it's no excuse!

For all bird lovers of this forum!
Let's all sing like the birdies sing, if you please!

Hi dee, hi dee ho"
Chante comme les p'tits oiseaux
"Whee, whee"
Trills the tiny chickadee
It's my turn now.

"Who, who, who are you?"
Hoots the wise old owl, too
"Me, me"
Sings the sparrow in the tree
I'll teach you how.

China or Peru, the thing to do
Is have a picnic every spring
Where you can listen to the birds
Who need no words
To teach you how to sing.

Low, high, high and low
(French)
One, two, all together here we go
It's our turn now.

"Brr, brr, than you sir"
Goes the scarlet tanager
"Tweet, tweet"
Chirps the cheery parakeet
It's my turn now.

"Hear, hear, lend an ear"
Sing the linnets loud and clear
"Hark, hark"
Look who's singing like a lark
And he knows how.

This is how we pass
Our music class
We learn a little more each day
(French) A language, too
That's how we speak Anglais.

"Whoo-whoo-broodle-oo"
Goes the emerald cockatoo
"Bob white"
Sounds the partridge in the night
It's our turn now.

"Hi ho, hi ho hee"
Goes the tirmouse ...
"Mush, mush"
Sings the dignified old thrush
So take your bow.

If we practice well
Why who can tell
The opera house we'll occupy
And if we harmonize just so
Next thing you know
We might learn how to fly.

And so off we go
(French)
Small birds
Hum the music and the words
It's our turn now.

La la la la la la (etc.)

Back from CAPTAIN LOUIE, which has a couple of nice Stephen Schwartz songs, but struck me as "Sesame Street does GODSPELL" several times.  I liked the professionalism of the children and young adults, who sing quite well.   The costumes are imaginative and fun, and I liked the sets.  My friends Dan Feyer and Bruce Doctor are in the band, and I saw them afterwards.  Then, DRs Ben and Anthony went with my friend Matthew and me to the diner next door to the theatre for a visit and a nosh.

DRvixmom, I don't know how the vixter woud like it.  I think she'd have more fun being in it.

Ok!

Your wishes are my command!

Edith Piaf - Milord Lyrics

Allez, venez, Milord!
Vous asseoir à ma table;
Dame! Le ciel vous comblait:
Votre foulard de soie
Flottant sur vos épaules,
Vous aviez le beau rôle,
On aurait dit le roi...
Vous marchiez en vainqueur
Au bras d'une demoiselle
Mon Dieu!... Qu'elle était belle...
J'en ai froid dans le coeur...

Allez, venez, Milord!
Vous asseoir à ma table;

Allez, venez, Milord!
Vous avez l'air d'un môme!
Laissez-vous faire, Milord,
Venez dans mon royaume:
Je soigne les remords,
Je chante la romance,
Je chante les milords
Qui n'ont pas eu de chance!
Regardez-moi, Milord,
Vous n'm'avez jamais vue...
...Mais... vous pleurez, Milord?
Ca... j'l'aurais jamais cru!...

Eh ben, voyons, Milord!
Souriez-moi, Milord!
...Mieux qu' ça! Un petit effort...
Voila, c'est ça!
Allez, riez, Milord!
Allez, chantez, Milord!
La-la-la...

Mais oui, dansez, Milord!
La-la-la... Bravo Milord!
La-la-la... Encore Milord!... La-la-la...

Thank you François.  It was a #1 hit here in Sydney in 1960.  in Melbourne we had a local singer with English words for the song.  It was top 10 hit.

Hello DR Penny O.
Are the Hawaiians still selling Australian macadamia nuts! (The chocolate coated variety of course).

Trivia.  The state flag of Hawaii still has the Union Jack.

Hawaii was once an independent kingdom. (1810 - 1893) The flag was designed at the request of King Kamehameha I. It has eight stripes of white, red and blue that represent the eight main islands. The flag of Great Britain is emblazoned in the upper left corner to honor Hawaii's friendship with the British.

France is considering doing the same thing with its flag for the very same reason.... its friendship with Prince Charles and Pineapple Princess Camilla!

Welcome to our tropical hideaway
You lucky people, you
If we weren't in the show starting right away
We'd be in the audience too

[Chorus]
In the tiki tiki tiki tiki tiki room
In the tiki tiki tiki tiki tiki room
All the birds sing words
And the flowers croon
At the tiki tiki tiki tiki tiki room

[Chorus]
In the tiki tiki tiki tiki tiki room
In the tiki tiki tiki tiki tiki room
All the birds sing words
And the flowers croon
At the tiki tiki tiki tiki tiki room

The bird Paradise is an elegant bird
He loves to be seen and loves to be heard
Most little birdies will fly away
But the tiki room birds are here everyday

[Chorus]
In the tiki tiki tiki tiki tiki room
In the tiki tiki tiki tiki tiki room
All the birds sing words
And the flowers croon
At the tiki tiki tiki tiki tiki room

[Chorus]
In the tiki tiki tiki tiki tiki room
In the tiki tiki tiki tiki tiki room
All the birds sing words
And the flowers croon
At the tiki tiki tiki tiki tiki room

Da da da da
We're singin' in the tiki room
Da da da da da da
Crooning in the tiki room

Da da da da
We're singin' in the tiki room
Da da da da da da
Crooning in the tiki room

The show is delightful
We hope you'll agree
We hope that it fills you with pleasure and glee
Because if we don't make you feel like that
We gonna wind up on a ladie's hat

LOL François.

I did read that the "vote" to join the Mainland as a state was won with the votes of absentee landlords.

I'd vote for Pineapple Princess. Oh Dio Mio.

Where do I get garlic stuffed olives?  I've never heard of these, and I love olives!  (are they green or black?).

In the U.S.A., they're sold in grocery stores/supermarkets.  Normally, they're sold alongside the pickles and other preserved items like pickled okra and pickled asparagus, etc.

The only garlic-stuffed olives I've ever seen were green.

I just find that there are certain episodes of SMALLVILLE that really do not interest me.  Although I always enjoy the scenes with Chloe/Clark.  And I'm happy that he knows she knows about his powers.

WHAT?

Clark has powers?

What do you mean?  What kind of powers?

What are you talking about?

Didn't have the evening I expected at all. First, I checked the DVR to see what shows I had recorded overnight that I had forgooten about. The only one last night was a special on Hitchcock, and when I played it, it was the same "Men Who Made the Movies" special that I had seen earlier in the week. The cable program guide simply called the show "Hitchcock." Had it given the right name, I wouldn't have recorded it at all. It was erased quickly.
