Well, you've read the notes, the notes had harmony, and now it is time for you to post until the harmonic cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: COZEN!
-
I'm not Wussburgering, I'm rehearsing!
;)
-
Good morning, all! I'm up at 6 am this morning: I've got band parts to copy, a trip to Toyland, then the NYPL, and back here for more work.
I had two repsponses to my inquiry yesterday. DR singdaw sent me the requested mp3 file of "All-Girl Band" from A MY NAME IS ALICE, Gold love him, and now I have an idea of what its tempo is. DR Matthew sent me several clips of the number on youtube. What a fantastoc ite!
Nothing else to report for now. Back later.
-
My, my, my. Five guests and me. I believe that is the name of BK's next book, or possibly his next play.
-
Morning, Tom.
-
I can only hear the melody line-- can't sing harmony. Sorry about that. :-\
-
Having finished watching WITH A SONG IN MY HEART last night, I have a question for BK and all the DRS:
What are your favorite film biographies, whether they be true to life or not?
-
And the word of the day is: COZEN!
And The Song Of The Day Is: BAD,BAD LEROY BROWN
-
Morning, Tom.
Good morning, Kerry. I was away from my computer.
-
Having finished watching WITH A SONG IN MY HEART last night, I have a question for BK and all the DRS:
What are your favorite film biographies, whether they be true to life or not?
"Crumb," a documentary on the cult cartoonist Robert Crumb.
"Conspiracy of Kindness," the story of Chiune (Sempo) Sugihara (the Japanese consul to Lithuania who during WWII who saved thousands of Jews at the expense of his own career).
I know that many didn't care for it, but I got a kick (ha!) out of "De-Lovely," the 2004 Cole Porter bio-pic starring Kevin Kline.
-
Slow day here at the ranch.
-
Good Wednesday morning!
I'm back in NY now after visiting with family in Florida for the Thanksgiving week. Lovely trip. And lovely to return to the lovely NY weather. Just lovely. Actually, I do think I would miss the change of seasons if I lived somewhere with constant temperature year-round. It really is beautiful walking around and seeing the leaves all different colors.
They are turning off the water to my building today in about five minutes so they can make some needed repairs to a water pipe. Should be back on by around 3pm this afternoon - but it caused me to be up, showered and dressed earlier than I otherwise would have. SO I think I will take advantage of that and get an early start on some errands.
Happy morning everyone!
-
A day and a half (actually a little less now) till V day (vacation day). I have some things to finish up today and a meeting at 10am tomorrow and then I will be outta here until January 2nd.
The stress test on the database went better than expected. The plan is to launch the new db on Monday morning December 3rd. I won't be here so I get to miss any problems.

A pox on inept postal workers and on DR Jeanne's clod neighbor.

Hello, DR Julie! Nice to see you around HHW!!!
-
And good morning to our distinguished men, DRs Ben and Elan.

Wednesday and I am off work. I shall write my review to submit to SCARLET STREET (yes, I was asked thanks to DR MBARNUM) - one is finished and the other will be finished today.
Raucous Rhapsody by George Gershwin.

Hello, DR Julie! Nice to see you around HHW!!!
Good morning to you, DR Singdaw! Glad to be back!

Film biographies:
WITH A SONG IN MY HEART
HARLOW - Carroll Baker, completely inaccurate, but nice to look at and listen to.
AMELIA EARHART - with Diane Keaton.

My question for ASK BK day.....if when filming a movie a take is exposed but NOT printed.....is the exposed film destroyed?

Quiet times here on HHW.

Morning Singdaw and everyone else.
I am off to proof pages

Good morning! I didn't put out my curbside recycling last night because it was so windy, but of course I heard the truck come to pick it up at 6:15 AM. I was awake so I decided to go walk on my treadmill. I am so glad I put it in a place where I can use it. Callie was once again totally baffled. The room it's in is where she usually goes to hide when it's time for her meds. She just watched me and then went up to the kitchen and waited for me to get done. Guess she figured I'd walked far enough and didn't have to chase her as she usually wants me to do.
I did get a hold of a garage door repair place. They will be at my house at 2:00 PM (hopefully) so I'm crossing my fingers that it's a repair and not a replacement that's in order.

I skipped my usual coffee this morning, but am really in need of some caffine...think I'll go make a cup of tea....

ASK BK
If you were to act in a film or play portraying a living or dead (or both) person who would it be?
-
I've got a suggestion about Topic for the Day.
Let's talk about people to whom we've loaned a VHS tape of a TV show that will never be aired again, so that the tape is pretty much irreplaceable, and the individual who gets it (that'd be DakotaCelt in my case) keeps the tape, for months and months, and never returns it. Never responds to several private emails asking when she's going to send it back. Never responds to public posts here offering to pay to get it back.
Anyone else ever have an experience like that?
-
Last night, DR Matt H. wrote: When the pad's a-rockin', don't come a-knockin'! ;)
LOL!
It wouldn't do you any good to knock. I wouldn't hear it!
-
Good morning!
Cold and crisp here but is supposed to get to near 60 this afternoon. It is beautiful outside.
-
I think she posted yesterday that she had it ready to send back.
DR 3DDIFFUSION - I never send out a tape like that. If I can't make a copy, it doesn't leave my house. I trust people, but things happen... I only send out things to be returned if it isn't a tragedy if I don't get them back. If I get them back, it's a nice surprise.
-
Unquestionably my favorite movie biography is LOVE ME OR LEAVE ME. I never tire of watching it.
bk mentioned another favorite last night: ANNE OF THE THOUSAND DAYS.
As for made-for-TV biographies, nothing will ever beat ELIZABETH R and I, CLAUDIUS.

I agree. I lost a couple of really rare things (including the 1984 Tony broadcast with SUNDAY/LA CAGE) being generous with friends, so I learned my lesson. I make copies now.
-
The Blu-ray of PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: AT WORLD'S END just arrived at my door, so I'll be giving my afternoon over to that.
-
Of course, new episodes of LIFE, CSI: NY, and PROJECT RUNWAY tonight!
Don't forget this week about PROJECT RUNWAY, DR Ron Pulliam!
-
And I haven't forgotten about your DVD-Rs of THE HAPPY TIME, DRs Elmore and Arnold. I should have them out to you by Friday.
DR Arnold, please private me your address. Thanks.
-
I meant to say that I watched THE HAPPY TIME because of the discussion here at HHW and found it delightful. Louis Jourdan was very handsome and Mr Charles Boyer was also a lot of fun. Bobby Driscoll was very good, too.
-
DR 3D didn't wait for an answer. The question must have been rhetorical.

I think JRand offered some great advice. It's folly to lend out anything you have only one copy of, cannot replace, and is worth so much to you that you don't care what you have to do in your attempt to retrieve it. That said, I believe the forum member will return the tape, as she promised to do yesterday.
I hope when this tape gets back to you that you keep it and preserve it. Never again let it out of your sight, and make sure you get it insured for its priceless value to you.
I also hope it provides you joy, solace, comfort and whatever else you can derive from it in the years to come.

To the rest of the forum, Good Morning! It is a joy to be alive and healthy and online.

DR JMK and anyone else in the discussion of "The Real McCoy's" yesterday:
I threw out a "Honey Babe" quote and asked if that had any resonance re: the TV show.
It SHOULD have been "Sugar Babe", which is what Richard Crenna's character called Kathleen Nolan's character in virtually EVERY episode.

Huh?

I KNOW....even though they've dragged their feet, they did listen to US, didn't they, on the Judy-Mickey box? The MGM musicals boxes? The Alice Faye box? (Not that they paid close enough attention 'cause "The Gang's All Here" needs TONS of restoration still).
-
WILL & GRACE Season 7 also gets released.
I wish that had the same impact for me as the 10th season of "Frasier"....but, alas....

Good morning, HHW!
Bio-pics:
I, too, enjoyed DELOVELY.
I also enjoyed SHINE. When SHINE first came out friends talked about what a great film it was, but that it was sooo depressing. My father had just passed away and it was a difficult time for me, so I shied away from it. It was only several years later that I saw the film. What an impact! Kudos to Geoffrey Rush!
And, like TOMOVOZ, I liked LA VIE EN ROSE quite a bit.
In the mini-series arena, THE DUCHESS OF DUKE STREET, which I've mentioned before, is an old favorite.
-
Reaching page 3?

INTERLOPER Jeanne!
:D
-
I wish that had the same impact for me as the 10th season of "Frasier"....but, alas....
No, but even the final two seasons of the show (7th and 8th) had episodes of real quality, humor, and pathos. I'll have to wait to find one a bit more attractively priced.

Boy, we sure veer off course in regards to our reactions to DE-LOVELY. I really loathed much of it. Only John Barrowman and Kevin McKidd's appearances in it made me buy a used copy (for less than $1).
-
I've got pre-orders in on the HD-DVD "Harry Potter" box, "The Bourne Ultimatum" and the 5-disc "Blade Runner" (I had pre-ordered the ultimate collector's edition, but I am having so much trouble finding storage room for all the boxes and ephemera of other collector's editions of things I've purchased in the past that I've cancelled that order and gone with the cheaper set -- still has the same content on 5 discs, but minus the attache case, the "probably-cheap-a-la-'Robby-the-Robot'-spinner-car-and-unicorn" -- and the printed materials, including photos).
-
Off to check the mail and then start fixing lunch.
WBBL.

...I actually slept through my alarm this morning. Well, at least I never heard the radio go off at 7:30. Usually I recall hearing something, but when I finally opened my eyes around 9:15, well... Then when I reopened my eyes a little before 11:00... Well.. I guess I needed the sleep, rest.
And the sun is out today too! Hmm... It has been a couple of months since I've been to the Reservoir... Hmm... :)

INTERLOPER Jeanne!

congrats to DR GEORGE on his recent bargains! He's now tied with DR CILLALIZ for the bargain-hunter of HHW.

As for Bio Pics...
"The Music Lovers" - Just for the sheer excess of it all. Although all of those Ken Russell composer bio-pics are full of excesses.
"Amadeus"
"Shine"
"Catch Me If You Can"
-
I liked when Granpa and Luke used their gun money to buy Kate a new dress, and then proceeded to redecorate it with tons of bows, rickrack, and geegaws.....
And I always thought Hassie McCoy was a pretty darn sophisticated name for a girl with a pony tail.
-
And of course in the book discussion I forgot to mention all of my BK inscribed tomes. GRRRRRRRRRRR....prized and read often.
-
Having finished watching WITH A SONG IN MY HEART last night, I have a question for BK and all the DRS:
What are your favorite film biographies, whether they be true to life or not?
Films don't have biographies - they have documentaries made about them which are then included in the DVD release.

RE: last night's DANCING WITH THE STARS
WINNER RESULTS ANNOUNCED
*
*
*
Well like DR Cillaliz i found last night's results rewarding. I had not read any spoilers. BUt these were the results i thought were fair (and what i was sort of expecting).
I was glad marie went out first. Although it would have been interesting to see what would have happened if she had performed great like she did last week.
And while i thought mel b had more natural talent, i don't think she worked as hard as helio did. If she had had the time to put in the work, i think she could have been brilliant.
As for helio he was my favorite from the start. And him and julianne together are the cutest couple ever. And they were really great last night! Yeah!

Now that you've all heard about DR Jeanne and the Missing Package, may I add a tidbit or two? Yes, BK BELIEVED the PO when they said they'd delivered it. I spent part of Thanksgiving morning knocking on my neighbors' doors trying to find said package, thinking the mail carrier had left it someplace "safe." This is the PO's "Get to Know Your Neighbors" program. Mail is delivered to the correct block--well, sometimes--then we all get to sort out who's who, as we try to get it to the correct party. It was only because I know many of my neighbors that it occurred to me what might have happened, and thus went to that address, to have my suspicions confirmed. Even once I knew what had happened, it was impossible to resolve with a phone call, because the PO has both of their published phone numbers set up on automated systems, WHERE, UNLIKE MOST AUTOMATED SYSTEMS, YOU CANNOT REACH A REAL PERSON. Thus, your chances of actually resolving any problems are nil. I had to go in person to TWO postal facilities. Fortunately, I found a supervisor who listened, seemed competent, and tried to help. But by this time the package was on its way back to California and we couldn't stop it.
For everyone who uses the PO delivery confimations, this package was still listed as DELIVERED, even after it'd been returned to sender several days before. That piece of information was not updated. Apparently, at least in my neighborhood, DELIVERED means that the package was left at some address, not necessarily the correct address or to the person intended. It can show as DELIVERED, even when the addressee has never even the package. Please bear this in mind when you check delivery confirmations.

TCB,
I have not interviewed Mr. Dave Draper.......
...however, back when I was working on my Reg Lewis interview he and his lovely wife loaned me some old bodybuilding magazines which had Reg on the cover and that I needed for the article. Dave and Laree are super nice people, and I always thought Dave was very, very funny on the episode of The Beverly Hillbillies that he guest starred in.

Must take care of some errands.

Wednesday afternoon greetings! Just got to work for my 12-9 shift, which includes teaching Grantseeking Basics this evening. I had a nice sleep-in until almost 8am, then did a little puttering at home.
Film bios - Frida, Yankee Doodle Dandy, Shakespeare in Love, HBO's Elizabeth starring Helen Mirren.
-
My favorite film bios are THE LIFE OF EMILE ZOLA (1937) and BLOSSOMS IN THE DUST (1941) which stars Greer Garson as Edna Gladney who helps little nameless babies.

ASK BK
If you were to act in a film or play portraying a living or dead (or both) person who would it be?
If I were younger, Danny Kaye. At my age, probably Golda Meir.

Actually, I only believed that the package was delivered - not delivered correctly. That way, at least, you know it's not still in transit or lost in Boston.
-
Oh, and I'm up.
-
I, too, would never send out an original and only copy of something. I learned that the hard way. That said, I'm sure Dakota Celt will get it back to 3DDiffusion - I, too, read the post where she said she had it ready and offered an apology.

In that photo we can't see James Valenti's rapidly rising career.

Not at that time, I don't think, but eventually I'm sure they nuke it - not sure.
I often wondered what happened to the one-day of filming that Judy Garland did on Valley of the Dolls. Barbara Parkins and Robert Viharo both said that director Mark Robson didn't get any footage he could use. So after I thought about it, probably none of it was printed even though it was exposed....and eventually went the way of destroyed film. Why would they process film that they couldn't use? ;D
And so 40 years later, I figure out why none of the footage was available for the DVD. At least that's what I figured. ;D
-
Greetings to former DR HISAKA.

Good Afternoon!
...Or I could just stay put for the next couple of hours... finally unpack my luggage from Thanksgiving (and the cruise :-\), do some laundry, sort through some mail, drop off some clothes at the dry cleaner up the street, and maybe even watch a program or two off the DVR while I'm waiting for the laundry to dry... Yeah, that's the ticket. ;)
-
...And maybe even stop into the still sort of new-ish Starbucks near my apartment, and throw the Barista for a loop by asking for a "Mocha Macchiato" - as opposed to a Caramel Macchiato or the regular "dry" Macchiato". ;)
-
In that photo we can't see James Valenti's rapidly rising career.
Well.. It's in Europe.

Ohh... Does this mean that Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau's recording of Barber's "Dover Beach" and the Three Songs, Op. 45 will finally be available on CD and/or for download.
I remember listening to those Op. 45 songs in Song Literature class in college. Some amazing poetry, set to some wonderful music - and very gratifying piano parts.
1. Now Have I Fed And Eaten Up the Rose
2. A Green Lowland of Pianos
3. O Boundless, Boundless Evening
Yes, Thomas Hampson does a fine job with them on the Complete Songs set that DG issued a couple years ago, but my first exposure to the show was Fischer-Dieskau's recording.... And you never forget your first love. ;)

DR JMK - I have no doubt that sooner or later the autographed WILL THERE REALLY BE A MORNING? will show up on EBAY. I, too, am watching for it.
I finally purchased the August, 1969, TV GUIDE that has the story about Leif Erickson that mentions Frances. It came out about a year before she died, and a couple of years before the book......the first inkling I had of any problems she had gone through at all.

I, for one, did not know this information!

In the Paramount school for stock players, he met Frances Farmer. She was a poignantly beautiful young girl out of the University of Washington, who had been catapulted into the hurly-burly of starletdom by winning a local popularity contest. Erickson immediately fell in love and married her. What he didn't know was that Frances couldn't take the success that was to come.
When Harold Clurman cast her as Lorna Moon, the girl from the wrong side of the tracks in Clifford Odets's "Golden Boy" on Broadway, she became the Mia Farrow of her time, 1937's Golden Girl. Movie producers fought for her services. By 1939, the marriage to her "blond Adonis" seemed less desirable. On a drive to New York, she broke the news to "Bill." He was "stupefied," according to her later account of it. She found him "strong, kind and loving," but, she added, "he is not fatherly. He could never fulfill the role of husband."

I forgot that Leif married Margaret Hayes. She always looked way to hard to be cast in so many leading lady roles.
...and I have, or used to have, an old promotional clipping for Allison Hayes that accidently used a photo of Margaret Hayes...I was horrified.

Yes, for a long time Halliwell's Film Companion listed THE BLACKBOARD JUNGLE in Allison's credits when everyone knows it was Margaret.....
And that story is a bit misleading. Leif's divorce from Frances was final on June 12, 1942, the SAME DAY he married Margaret Hayes. And they were separated one month later and then divorced. 8)

I have that issue lying around here somewhere. :) I always thought the Mia Farrow comparison was off--Mia always seemed more of a naif (where's an umlaut when you need one?), plus she came from a Hollywood family to begin with. I'm not sure who I would have compared her to in 1969--Jean Seberg, maybe (an apt comparison, later, at least).

Mmm.. I may have to try this tonight... and/or tomorrow...
Rice Pudding
Gourmet | December 2007
Oven-baking this rice pudding eliminates a lot of stovetop stirring while still producing a delicious, creamy dessert.
Makes 4 servings
Jane Bradley
2 cups whole milk
1/3 cup Arborio rice
8 teaspoons sugar
Whole nutmeg
4 tablespoons heavy cream
Garnish: cinnamon
Equipment: 4 (6- to 8-oz) ramekins
Preheat oven to 325°F with rack in middle. Butter ramekins.
Add 1/2 cup milk, 4 teaspoons rice, 2 teaspoons sugar, and a pinch of salt to each ramekin. Finely grate a little nutmeg over each, then stir to combine.
Put ramekins in a shallow baking pan and bake until most of milk is absorbed and tops are golden-brown, about 1 hour (a skin will form). Cool puddings in ramekins on a rack, about 1 hour.
Discard skin from puddings, then stir 1 tablespoon cream into each. Puddings can be eaten at room temperature or chilled. If desired, chill puddings, covered, at least 30 minutes.
Cooks' note: Rice pudding can be chilled up to 3 days.

Morning Singdaw and everyone else.
I am off to proof pages
You can't proof pages - the proof is in the PUDDING!
-
I think she posted yesterday that she had it ready to send back.
DR 3DDIFFUSION - I never send out a tape like that. If I can't make a copy, it doesn't leave my house. I trust people, but things happen... I only send out things to be returned if it isn't a tragedy if I don't get them back. If I get them back, it's a nice surprise.
Ditto.
-
Oohh... And the recipe for Baked Oatmeal sounds interesting too.
-
Well, I guess today has turned into Laundry Day. Clean clothes and bed linens are always a good thing to have. :)
-
Hmmm... And did you know that...
A recent study found Cacao to be a more effective cough suppresant than codeine.
:D
-
Films don't have biographies - they have documentaries made about them which are then included in the DVD release.
:P
-
DerBrucer I showed Keith the beard cap- ;D
I don't think he will be getting one anytime in the near future, even during snow shoveling season.
-

I'm not sure who I would have compared her to in 1969--Jean Seberg, maybe (an apt comparison, later, at least).
I'm only guessing that the writer was referencing Farrow's rebellion against her movie bosses and her disdain for the industry in general - certainly her fights with 20th Century-Fox, her refusal to work on "Peyton Place" even though she had a contract, cutting her trademark long hair....and her marriage to Frank Sinatra all made her seem even crazier than Frances ever did. 8)

Recent studies have found that theobromine, a compound found in cacao, is more effective as a cough suppressant than prescription codeine. This compound suppresses the "itch" signal from the nerve in the back of the throat that causes the cough reflex. It is possible to get an effective dose (1 g, though 0.5 g may be sufficient, according to PMID 15548587) from 50g of dark chocolate, which contains 2 to 10 times more cacao than milk chocolate. Cocoa powder contains roughly 0.1 g per tablespoon (5g).[1] Theobromine was also free from side effects in the blind tests.[2]
-
the recipe for Baked Oatmeal sounds interesting too.
Imagine how much harder THAT bowl will be to wash!
-
Wow, DR MBARNUM that photo of Margaret is very hard edged.
-
...finally unpack my luggage from Thanksgiving
:o Why be so hasty. You know you'll need it all packed up again next year.

I know! Go figure! Maybe I'm "suffering" from Cabin Fever.

Hi Julie. It's nice to see you posting again.
-
Hmmm... Just watching "Dr. Phil"... "Toxic Couples" seems to be the topic of the day. And, now he's featuring Lynn & Alex from "The Amazing Race".
It's what's on TV... ???

Must-see TV? ;)

Medicinal benefits to eating dark chocolate! I wish I knew that last week when I was fighting off a cough. Oh wait - it's not completely gone yet. Guess I better go have some chocolate! Thanks, Jane!
-
I, for one, did not know this information!
See the little face box under the posts? That is where you click to be lead to the personal information. Then you can check out as many past posts as you like. Supposedly, I can only go as high as 500 posts. If I click on ALL, it doesn't work. I suppose it takes too long and I run out of time. ???
-
Hi Julie. It's nice to see you posting again.
-
Julie, enjoy your chocolate ;D
-
Oops. That was supposed to say "Thank you, Jane. Glad to be back."
-
Good afternoon, fellow Dear Readers.
-
Who would want to read ALL of anyone's posts? LOL...
<-------------- ;D
-
Hi DR Laura. Is it comfortably warm out your way? I want to spend the winter someplace warm.
-
The New York Times buried this nugget in their strike reporting:
About 2 a.m. yesterday, a union official who was outside with other officials for a cigarette break got in a fistfight with a panhandler who was walking around 48th Street.
-
Who would want to read ALL of anyone's posts? LOL...
<-------------- ;D
;D I wouldn't. However I might want to find an older post in reference to something.
-
Gotta go-laters.

That wasn't a panhandler, it was Cheyenne Jackson. ;D

Thank you for the link, DR ELMORE.
Did your Kip Wilborn CD arrive? I like it veddy much.
DR Jose, thanks for the zip file!
-
You're welcome, DR elmore!

It's a beautiful day with t-shirt weather.
-
Today I got my CHristmas present to myself - a 22" widescreen LCD computer monitor. Wow! Is this screen big! I don't need glasses or contacts to read this thing. It is humongous!

Another euphemism?
;D
-
I began my afternoon of viewing by finishing the MURDER SHE WROTE episode that I had started yesterday. There was only about 12 minutes left in the episode (the one with Brenda Vacarro and Mike Ferrell). Enjoyable. I remembered who the murderer was, but I didn't remember the motive behind the killing, so it was good to see again.
-
Another euphemism?
;D
I was going to ask if there was such a thing as TOO big, but I knew there would be a slew of HHWers who couldn't resist commenting.

-
I started another MURDER SHE WROTE episode, this one with guest stars Julie Adams, Hugh O'Brian, Sally Struthers, and Ruta Lee. Only got about 20 minutes into this one.
-
I wanted to go ahead and watch PIRATES 3 on Blu-ray so I could give the evening over to the bonus features. Well, a bunch of phone calls and other interruptions caused me to only get to the two hour mark in the film. I'll have to finish it and watch as much of the bonus stuff as possible tonight. Luckily, I don't have anything coming on TV until 10.
-
congrats to DR GEORGE on his recent bargains! He's now tied with DR CILLALIZ for the bargain-hunter of HHW.
I feel so proud!
;)
-
I see that NAKED BOYS SINGING comes out on DVD next week. That should be fun.
WILL & GRACE Season 7 also gets released.
I get the e-mail updates from www.soundofmusic-shop.de and in their latest, they've announced that the German cast recording of WICKED (http://www.soundofmusic-shop.de/CD_WICKED_-_Original_Germany_Cast_2007.html) will be released on December 7! I've placed my order! :D
-
A co-worker (same as before) is in a snit/huff because I couldn't give her my undivided attention while juggling three things at one time.
Tough beans!

Harrumph!
-
I got my Christmas present to myself (one of several, actually) in yesterday's mail.
Over Thanksgiving, I had a bid in at eBay for the complete box set of Jimmy Webb's "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" -- a 4-CD Rhino presentation of Webb's music with a 5th disc of a live performance by Webb.
This was one of Rhino's quick sell-outs a few years back and copies have been few/far between in auction venues.
I paid a pretty...but it was still $100-$150 less than the last one I was bidding on sold for.
-
I guess I need to head back down and pick back up with Captain Jack Sparrow and the Black Pearl crew.
-
Is anyone planning on watching the SHREK Christmas special tonight. I guess I'll record it. It's only a half hour. (The Grinch follows it.)
-
Page Eight Professor Lupin Dance!!!
-
Heading down now.
WBBL.
-
Soon I'll have to go upstairs to the Auditorium to set up for tonight's Grantseeking Basics class.
-
I bought my Christmas gift to myself, too. New table fashions.
-
Photos, DR Laura?

I will be reviewing Naked Boys Singing (well, the DVD, anyway) later this week.
-
It's a beautiful day with t-shirt weather.
Well, long-sleeved T-shirt anyway! :D

I found this press release over at DoctorWhoNews (http://www.gallifreyone.com/news.php) -

-Hopefully that didn't put us into full Cinemascope.
It didn't for me. And even if it did...who cares?? :D

I was going to ask if there was such a thing as TOO big, but I knew there would be a slew of HHWers who couldn't resist commenting.

Isn't there an emoticom for "raises hand?" :-\
-
Well, my email server must have put in spam filters or something, because I am not able to mass email the church newsletters. I hope I don't have to email them one at a time. Although, I suppose I can really rack up some on-the-clock time, huh?
-
I will be reviewing Naked Boys Singing (well, the DVD, anyway) later this week.

I'm sure you'll let us know if it deserves a standing ovation. :o

Is anyone planning on watching the SHREK Christmas special tonight. I guess I'll record it. It's only a half hour. (The Grinch follows it.)
I completely forgot about it. I'm not going to record it, though. I have too many other TV shows to record and watch.
-
Belated Ask BK (actually ask David W.): BK, there's some discussion over at A&M-land about who played on the Bell BMB LP. Could you ask David for personnel sometime--there's nothing listed on the jacket. Also, the guess is that the regular BMB-ers had actually left by the time of the last A&M album, As Time Goes By--could David confirm? I shilled BFPX there for ya. :)
-
Evening all!
My meds really knocked me out last night. I fell sound asleep in my recliner. I'm not supost to do that but how do you stop yourself?
I woke up in time to see the end of DWS.
SPOILER
I was a bit disapointed. I wanted M & M to win. Oh well.
-
DOCTOR WHO/TORCHWOOD SPOILERS
In addition to Billie Piper returning to Doctor Who for three episodes in series four, John Barrowman has also dropped a hint that Captain Jack will be there, as well. Given that Catherine Tate (as former runaway bride Donna Noble) will be on hand for the entire season, plus Freema Agyeman (as Martha Jones) will be returning mid-series (after appearing as Jones for three episodes on Torchwood), it would appear that David Tennant (The Doctor) will have quite a surplus of romantic possibilities on board the Tardis.
All we need now is for Noel Clarke and Elisabeth Slaydon to show up. (Peter Davison has already appeared in the short Time Crash with Tennant as part of this years Children In Need telethon.)
-
I spent most to today sorting through old paperwork and scanning things I thought were important.
I found 2 copies of my Mom's birth certificate. There were 2 different birthdays listed. One was the one we always used, November 10th and the other was a few days before that.
I have no idea which one is correct and I guess it doesn't matter.
-

I just assumed that the "ALL" option was set up to not work...it's never worked for me and I have cable Internet. But otherwise, I use this feature all the time.
-
Well, I have piles more to go through and to scan so I best get to it!
I'll try to check back later.
-
Having finished watching WITH A SONG IN MY HEART last night, I have a question for BK and all the DRS:
What are your favorite film biographies, whether they be true to life or not?
Amadeus
Heart Like a Wheel (parts of it were filmed in Olympia)
Shakespeare in Love
Yankee Doodle Dandy
-
I will be reviewing Naked Boys Singing (well, the DVD, anyway) later this week.
I hope the DVD is better than the stage show. It was one of the weirdest evenings in the theatre I've ever encountered.
My sister-in-law Jo is the luckiest lady alive. She's won in drawings and lotteries over the years a jeep, $100 here and $100 there, and last night she won $1200. She told me if she'dactually been at the drawing, she would have won an additional $400. I told her to fly to New York and buy my lottery tickets.
-
Back from a nice lunch with former dear reader Hisaka, who sends her best. I then visited some haunts on the West Side, made one major league score, and am now home. No mail at the mail place today, though.
-
I shall now relax until I leave for the theater to see Wicked.
-
I'm not Wussburgering, I'm rehearsing!
;)
Last night's rehearsal went well...for the most part. I have one line ("That is the only explanation that we have at this time, gentlemen!") that for some darned reason, I keep forgetting when I'm in the scene! AARRGGHH!! Otherwise, the show (shameless plug alert: Nite of the Living Dead! The Musical! (http://www.buyolympia.com/events/?details=313) ;)) ran 2 hours and 45 minutes with intermission...that's shorter than the night before, but still too long (IMHO). And act two was 10 minutes longer than act one. :-\ I don't know how long they expect (or hope) the show to be, but I don't think that it can get much shorter without some cutting of text and/or songs. I get the very strong feeling that the writer doesn't even consider than an option. ::)
-
Why is former DR Hisaka no longer posting?
-

Sing faster.
-
Why is former DR Hisaka no longer posting?
I've never known the answer for this, myself. ???
-
I've had a lovely day off from work, but need to get something together for der Brucer's din-din. Laters.
-
Page Eight Dance...
Hmmm, I'm not sure I know any dances that come eight beats to the measure.
-
Hello, DR FJL.
-
Hisaka told me that she has such a tough time with English she gets embarrassed posting...I told her that her posts made more sense then most of mine.
So mainly, she just doesn't feel comfortable posting in English.
-
Hi Julie. It's so nice to have you back where you belong. (almost a Babs reference)
-
Patti's back!!!
It's definite -- the City Center Encores is opening on Broadway in March.
Yahoo. ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
MBarnum is correct - she's not comfortable with her English yet - a shame.

Can you say "EPAs"?
:)

Hmm... I just received "confirmation" that the hours - well "days" - that I had put in for another gig a few weeks ago were never turned into the production's payroll office. However, they're able to cut a check on the fly, and I'll have it in hand tomorrow. -Must be something in the air.

I'm still waiting for the pretty sizable check for the second half of my fee for the Cinderella pre-record. They are telling me tomorrow (an Annie reference).

It's a beautiful day with t-shirt weather.
Oh, it sounds lovely (said with a longing sigh) :)
-
Today I got my CHristmas present to myself - a 22" widescreen LCD computer monitor. Wow! Is this screen big! I don't need glasses or contacts to read this thing. It is humongous!
Again with a longing sigh-the big screen doesn't help my vision all that much ??? ;D
Congratulations on the new screen! :DThe widescreens are nice. I traded mine to Bryan for his square one.
-
I know DR Matt's new monitor must be nice, but I wonder if it has stereophonic sound!
-
Well, long-sleeved T-shirt anyway! :D
;D Still works for me, as long as I can find one to fit over this splint.
Yes photos please DR Laura.
-
Can you say "EPAs"?
:)
A'-PAHs?
or EP'-us?
or EE PEE AYs?
-
My meds really knocked me out last night. I fell sound asleep in my recliner. I'm not supost to do that but how do you stop yourself?
After you posted u locked up the house due to the helicopter I almost called to make sure everything was ok, glad I didn't call & wake you. I'm sure you needed the nap.
-
Sing faster.
Our composer/lyricist/music director sets the tempos. ::)
-
Hisaka told me that she has such a tough time with English she gets embarrassed posting...I told her that her posts made more sense then most of mine.
So mainly, she just doesn't feel comfortable posting in English.
Practice makes perfect. :)
-
Hisaka's English seemed excellent to me. And she posted beautiful photos of her flowers.
-
I miss the roses
-
I've told her and told her, but she seems too uncomfortable with it. What can you do?
-
I stopped into a book store on the West Side, and let's just say I made an incredible score, an extra copy of a VERY pricey book, which I will now turn around and resell to a dealer friend for large profit.

***GARAGE DOOR VIBES***
to DR Cillaliz!
Thanks....the news is....I'm getting a new garage door, new opener and everything. The gears were stripped, the springs were shot and the door is rotting out. SO, I could have gotten cheap new springs and a new opener or I could get the 18 foot (long story but I can't have 2 doors I have to have one 18 footer) steel insulated door, new opener, new track, new springs, the door opening weather stripped and the openers and wireless remote for about $400 more. It's a promotion they have going. Since I'm going to have to get a new door in the next couple years, I'm biting the bullet and going for it. I really hate to spend the money right now, but we don't always get to choose when things need replacing.
Seriously, I knew it was all going to need to be replaced when I bought the house...I was just hoping it would last a little longer. The best part of it is that it will do a much better job keeping the cold air and wind out of the garage...which is attached to the laundry room...which is so cold it has a built in space heater.
Ok, I freaked out about spending all the money I have to spend at a time when I'm feeling pretty strapped for cash, but after venting to my mother and to Paul, I've decided to just accept it and move on. And I can't wait to have the new door!
-
I was out carousing with Carmen Sandiego.
Where in the world was that? And if this has been asked several times already - ignore the post, I'm posting as I read
-
DR Jennifer...
Did you hear that Helio and his fiance called off the wedding and broke up? Hmmm....wonder if there was more to the kiss than we thought...
-
Where in the world was that?
Just my feeble attempt at humor! :)
-
Cilla-I figured you would end up with a new door opener. I'm sure you will be very happy to have it this winter.:)
-
It's a beautiful day with t-shirt weather.
Today was single digit windchill here. I got out my long underwear for the first time
-
And I thought it was cold here.
-
I feel so proud!
;)
;D
-
I guss the universe is back in order: the whores are coming back to MySpace. Ella wants to be my friend so I can see her naked pics.
-
I bought my Christmas gift to myself, too. New table fashions.
I called my mom and told her that my garage door was her Christmas present and I hope she likes it...she laughed
-
Hello, fellow Dear Readers! Underpants!
Yes, I have been both errant and truant, but I am now an officially fully trained monkey in a parking garage booth. It's not as boring as you would think, and even when it is boring, you find silly little ways to amuse yourself. Mostly involving rubber bands, because there are a lot of them in the booth.
-
Today was single digit windchill here.
Brrrrrrrrrrr. I got a chill just reading those words.

I've told her and told her, but she seems too uncomfortable with it. What can you do?
We could all post messages to her telling her how much we miss her and how we all believe her English was great and you could tell her to log on and read the messages.
-
Just my feeble attempt at humor! :)
And my feeble attempt to keep it going...
-
Congratulations! :D
Thanks!
-
Cilla-I figured you would end up with a new door opener. I'm sure you will be very happy to have it this winter.:)
I figured I'd need a new opener, but not springs, track door and the whole ball of wax.
The funny thing is the garage door guy knew the previous owner of this house and was commenting on how cheap he was...I said I knew that by all the things that needed to be replaced in the house. He told me the previous owner wouldn't even take his wife out to dinner because it would cost too much. Yikes!
-
Well, since dark chocolate is so good for you, and since it is very cold, and since I've been very good all day...I'm going to go make a dark chocolate mocha with skim milk. YUMMY!
-
Today was single digit windchill here....
Hmm, wonder if that's headed for SW Ohio?
DR Cillaliz - Sorry you have another expense, but I'm glad you're getting the garage door fixed properly by replacing the whole thing. Especially before winter rolls in for the long haul.
-
Sandra I have missed your post, you have a way of making me laugh. You should have some interesting stories to tell.
-
November's grantseeking basics class only had 6 attendees. Half of them were from the arts, including 2 board members from the Dayton Mandolin Orchestra (http://www.daytonmandolin.net).

Well, I'm off. I need to go home and put in my contact lenses and get something to eat, then to the theater. Pray for Rosemary's Baby!
;)

Hello, fellow Dear Readers! Underpants!
... and even when it is boring, you find silly little ways to amuse yourself. Mostly involving rubber bands, because there are a lot of them in the booth.
And writing "eat your vegetables" on the five-dollar bills you are going to give out as change.

And writing "eat your vegetables" on the five-dollar bills you are going to give out as change.
Yep. So if anybody here gets a five that says "eat your vegetables," you'll know where it came from.

;D

Hmm, wonder if that's headed for SW Ohio?
DR Cillaliz - Sorry you have another expense, but I'm glad you're getting the garage door fixed properly by replacing the whole thing. Especially before winter rolls in for the long haul.
Thanks Ginny. I'm still adjusting from the world of a really good salary to the world of the unknown where expenses seem to fall out of the sky without a moment's notice. It freaks me out a little, but I'm so much happier than I was before that this too shall pass.
-
Sounds like Cillaliz got her Christmas present early, too.
-
I guss the universe is back in order: the whores are coming back to MySpace. Ella wants to be my friend so I can see her naked pics.
;D
-
Hello from the E & T Vixmom.... my excuse id that SOME PEOPLE are always hogging the computer
-
And I'm sure Cilla's mother loved her Christmas present. I know I would appreciate such a gift from my children.
I say this with complete sincerity.

Well, at least you won't have to eat plates. Or did I speak too soon?
-
Hi Vixmom
-
I'm still adjusting from the world of a really good salary to the world of the unknown where expenses seem to fall out of the sky without a moment's notice.
I think you've come to the world that most of us live in. Welcome!

From whence cometh these nifty new avatars JMK, George, Danise and TCB?

Probably not, but you never know. Parking garages are strange places.
-
Hi Jane!!
-
Probably not, but you never know. Parking garages are strange places.
Are you inside the garage or in a little house out in the hot hot sun??

I'm in a little house inside the garage.

Hello, DaNiece! We haven't met yet. Do you like Cherry Coke?

Hello, DaNiece! We haven't met yet. Do you like Cherry Coke?
Hello, Sandra! It's alright. Is that a picture of your cat? :)
-
Hello, Sandra! It's alright. Is that a picture of your cat? :)
Yes. Her name is Sasha and that's the only picture I have of her because she runs away from the camera.
-
Do you get to sit in your little house or do you have to stand all day?
Are you allowed to read while youare waiting for customers or must you be vigilant in watching the parked cars to be sure that nothing unseemly happens to them?
-
Yes. Her name is Sasha and that's the only picture I have of her because she runs away from the camera.
Sasha looks like our old cat--Cookie.
-
I know DR Matt's new monitor must be nice, but I wonder if it has stereophonic sound!
It does indeed, but since I already have speakers connected to my computer system, I didn't bother attaching the audio cable.
-
Broadway strike is finally over!! ;D ;D
-

Are you allowed to read while youare waiting for customers or must you be vigilant in watching the parked cars to be sure that nothing unseemly happens to them?
I get to sit in the big chair. I like the big chair because I'm the same height sitting in it as I am when I'm standing up. It makes me feel tall.
I am allowed to read if I'm not doing anything else.

Had a full evening of entertaining (and semi-entertaining) shows.
I began by finishing the Blu-ray of PIRATES 3. The HD version is SO much more pictorially pleasing than the SD-DVD. Flesh tones much more true to life, detail amped up considerably, and the PCM lossless 5.1 soundtrack very detailed and wider sounding.
-
All of the bonus features from the SD-DVD plus the new things on the disc are in HD, so that was also pleasing. Often, extras are ported over to HD discs but they're still in standard definition and look so washed out compared to the film you've just watched. These looked wonderful.
The Blu-ray has a BD-Java added feature that details all of the work on the film's centerpiece, the battle between the two pirate ships circling the maelstrom. The documentary featured seamless branching and numerous featurettes that you could choose or ignore as you wished. It was about an extra hour of additional material.
-
I did watch SHREK THE HALLS, the new SHREK Christmas half hour. It was in HD, and since I am not able at this time to see the SHREK movies in HD, this gave me some idea of the pictorial quality I'm missing. The special itself was very typical-SHREK: loud, overbearing, exhausting. And I didn't find much of it very funny though there were a few minutes of merriment.

Thanks Vixmum/Vixmom - another chance to correct a common mistake.
"Whence" makes the "from" redundant.
The Writer of the BK trilogy is prone to the same lapse!
Say hello to Victoria from OZ.
-
THE GRINCH was on afterwards, and I watched it in HD, too. It looked sensational, especially since the DVD I have was that first DVD pressing that has horrible color and tinny sound. (I have never bothered to buy the latest issue of GRINCH which does feature much improved color and sound.)
-
Next, I rewatched last night's BONES episode, and I enjoyed it very much again. Some very special moments in this hour of the show.
-
With your "High Chair" experience DR Sandra, you may be able to apply for a place as Tennis official in the future. Congratulations.
-
Today I recorded THE VIRGIN QUEEN off the Fox movie channel. Fox hasn't gotten around to issuing a region 1 DVD of THE VIRGIN QUEEN, so I'll probably burn one for myself at some point over the next few days. True, it won't be anamorphic, but it'll do until they get around to issuing the film on DVD. Rumor has it that it will come out in 2008.
I watched about 15 minutes or so of the movie, and it does look very good, so maybe this is the print they'll use for their transfer.
-
And then, tonight's PROJECT RUNWAY. I had no problem with the person who went home. It was a wretched design. I was upset with who finished next to last. The person who was excused right before (I thought) should actually have been the loser tonight. That was a hopeless creation from top to bottom.

DR VIXMOM I think the new avvies are from www.photobucket.com a photo storage site....FREE

The gears were stripped.
The springs were shot.
And all it was
It now was not.
But Cilla says
She will not frown.
The new door will
Go up AND down.

Dang, I should have known that... thanks Teacher!
I will pass your greeting s on in the morning. We were just talking about you...she is still having trouble beleiving that you have summer at Christmas time, she says she "knows" it's true " But it's just not right"
Then I told her Santa uses "six white jumpers" to bring the kid's presents in Oz...."But why? The reindeer fly so what's the problem?"
KIDS! ;D
-
Completely satisfied with the Pwoject Wunway wesults this evening. A particularly difficult challenge to be sure.
There is still one designer that gets on my LAST NERVE.....my fingers are crossed that one day said person will be gone. This person is like Angela and Wendy all rolled up into one skeezy ball.
-
Still working on my review....I know I know.....it's NOT War and Peace....just write it!
-
Wonder what book MR BK scored?
-
In discussing movie bios - I forgot to add:
Ed Wood
Frances - NOT ACCURATE to be sure
Beyond the Sea....an interesting not entirely successful movie
-
Yep.... The strike is o'er!
-Now I'm wondering if all the discount codes and vouchers will still be valid. Hmmm.. ???
-
Thanks Jack! The site wanted me to download a new version of JAVA... I dare not download anything on pain of death..... .
-
HURRAH for the end of the strike...
-
...And I'm guessing the producers will be taking advantage of the brush-up rehearsal hours tomorrow afternoon. -Although, since 24-hours notice is usually required for a rehearsal call... Or maybe it's only 12 hours notice... ???
-
I have some writing to do myself, so I'll say good night.
-
Just finished cathing up.... Fred my condolences on the loss of your cousin
-
Thanks for the VIBES, nothing's been said..... but I can put 2 and 2 together....I am pulling every string I can to bring more business in but it's suddenly gotten vvery scary in my business, and this is the typical slow period... now its so slow its nearly backwards
-
DRJOSE - 24 hours notice is required for changes in rehearsal, and there are definite times allowed for Understudy and Brush Up rehearsals, but I am not sure what this type of rehearsal would be. If it is the continuation of the regular rehearsals, then yes I think 24 hours notice would be required.
-

Java updates can be messy, DR VIXMOM.

Off to write.

I, too, would never send out an original and only copy of something. I learned that the hard way. That said, I'm sure Dakota Celt will get it back to 3DDiffusion - I, too, read the post where she said she had it ready and offered an apology.
They will be mailed tomorrow. Sending you an email bruce
-
Sandra I look forward to your garage gossip

and now to sleep, perchance to dream

Has anyone else tried the Diet Pepsi Strawberries and Cream flavor?
This may be outrageous, but I like it even better than Cherry Coke.
-
Pleasant dreams vixmom
-
FJL, dont tell Sandra!!!
-
I'm just getting used to the concept of the Tresemme hair salon and the L'Oreal make-up room on Project Runway, but the Bluefly.com wall just has me giggling.
-
I will have to try Strawberries and Cream.
-

I have tried it, but I think I still prefer the Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper and the Berries & Cream Dr. Pepper - both the regular and diet versions. I'm still haven't tried the new Cherry Chocolate Dr. Pepper.
-
Jose, are you comparing the diet versions of each to each other, or mixing and matching diets and regulars?
-
Is teh Strawberries and Cream also in regular FJL? I have not heard of it.
-
There must be an echo in here....
-
Back from Wicked and a backstage visit with Miss Emily Rozek. Have to eat a bagel or two, then will write notes, which will go up a little late, I'm sure.
-
Trying to stay awake for the notes...
Very cold windchill here to night, -20. However, the air temperature is above zero.
-
REnted Wicked from the library... It is a fun musical
