Recent studies have found that theobromine, a compound found in cacao, is more effective as a cough suppressant than prescription codeine. This compound suppresses the "itch" signal from the nerve in the back of the throat that causes the cough reflex. It is possible to get an effective dose (1 g, though 0.5 g may be sufficient, according to PMID 15548587) from 50g of dark chocolate, which contains 2 to 10 times more cacao than milk chocolate. Cocoa powder contains roughly 0.1 g per tablespoon (5g).[1] Theobromine was also free from side effects in the blind tests.[2]

Medicinal benefits to eating dark chocolate!  I wish I knew that last week when I was fighting off a cough.  Oh wait - it's not completely gone yet. Guess I better go have some chocolate!  Thanks, Jane!

I, for one, did not know this information!

See the little face box under the posts?  That is where you click to be lead to the personal information.  Then you can check out as many past posts as you like.  Supposedly, I can only go as high as 500 posts.  If I click on ALL, it doesn't work.  I suppose it takes too long and I run out of time. ???

Hi DR Laura.  Is it comfortably warm out your way?  I want to spend the winter someplace warm.

The New York Times buried this nugget in their strike reporting:

Today I got my CHristmas present to myself - a 22" widescreen LCD computer monitor. Wow! Is this screen big! I don't need glasses or contacts to read this thing. It is humongous!

I began my afternoon of viewing by finishing the MURDER SHE WROTE episode that I had started yesterday. There was only about 12 minutes left in the episode (the one with Brenda Vacarro and Mike Ferrell). Enjoyable. I remembered who the murderer was, but I didn't remember the motive behind the killing, so it was good to see again.

I started another MURDER SHE WROTE episode, this one with guest stars Julie Adams, Hugh O'Brian, Sally Struthers, and Ruta Lee. Only got about 20 minutes into this one.

I wanted to go ahead and watch PIRATES 3 on Blu-ray so I could give the evening over to the bonus features. Well, a bunch of phone calls and other interruptions caused me to only get to the two hour mark in the film. I'll have to finish it and watch as much of the bonus stuff as possible tonight. Luckily, I don't have anything coming on TV until 10.

I see that NAKED BOYS SINGING comes out on DVD next week. That should be fun.

WILL & GRACE Season 7 also gets released.

I get the e-mail updates from www.soundofmusic-shop.de and in their latest, they've announced that the German cast recording of WICKED will be released on December 7!  I've placed my order! :D

A co-worker (same as before) is in a snit/huff because I couldn't give her my undivided attention while juggling three things at one time.

Tough beans!

I got my Christmas present to myself (one of several, actually) in yesterday's mail.

Over Thanksgiving, I had a bid in at eBay for the complete box set of Jimmy Webb's "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" -- a 4-CD Rhino presentation of Webb's music with a 5th disc of a live performance by Webb.

This was one of Rhino's quick sell-outs a few years back and copies have been few/far between in auction venues.

I paid a pretty...but it was still $100-$150 less than the last one I was bidding on sold for.
