Well, you've read the notes, it took you a Weill to read the notes, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - their currently handicapping the Tony Awards right now.
-
And the word of the day is: ERUMPENT!
-
Today at 10:30 a.m., I have to usher for a local dance company's recitals. They have four performances and I have to be there for the earliest one. :P That's too darned early! Anyway, I'll be there with bells on. After that, I'll hurry home so that I can be set for the Tony Awards®!
-
I'm just sitting here like so much fish, listening to my iPod and fooling around on eBay.
-
On the way up to Seattle yesterday, we listened to 20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Astrud Gilberto (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007WW35Q/sr=8-2/qid=1150011193/ref=pd_bbs_2/102-4779504-7364131?%5Fencoding=UTF8). I have never really heard any of her songs, other than "The Girl from Ipanema."
-
Oh! I forgot that when I was in Seattle yesterday, after the ballet but before we went to eat at Dick's Drive-In, we stopped at Tower Records. Now, last month when I went to see PennyO in the reading in Seattle, I went to Tower Records afterwards and bought the original Broadway cast recording of Kean with Alfred Drake. When I tried to play it at work, I was shocked and horrified to find that the disc had some scratches on it...they really just looked like a bunch of dots...that made the CD unplayable. So, a couple of weeks later, when my niece and I went to the Seattle Storm basketball game, I again stopped in Tower Records so that I could swap the CD. They didn't have another copy in stock and they wouldn't give me my money back nor would they give me a store credit. They had to order me another copy of the same CD. So that means that I would have to pay $15 in gas to get a $10 CD. That bites. As of yesterday, they hadn't called me yet to tell me that the CD had come in. But when we got to Tower Records, I went right to the musicals section and they had TWO COPIES OF THE CD!! They never called me! How rude! So, I got my good copy and I was able to get it without making a trip up to Seattle just for that, but they should've called. :P
-
According to the KCTS (Seattle PBS) website, "The Light in the Piazza" is not playing on the Seattle PBS until June 18th at 11:30 a.m.! What kind of first showing is that? :P According to excite.com's TV listing, it's showing on Thursday, June 15 at 9:00 p.m., and according to tvguide.com, it's not showing at all! Who's right?? :-\
-
Good Morning. Yesterday was the Vixter's dance recital. That pretty much sucked up the entire evening from 5 PM until it ended at 10 and then out for a bite to eat...of course before that was the laundry and dishes and shopping.....
and sneezing, lots and lots of sneezing................
Ah what an exciting life I lead!.
-
Today I shall be E & T from this here site, first we have church and Sunday School, then the Vixter wants to auditon for 2 summer shows at the local community theatre, they are doing a "musical showcase" by kids and they are also auditioning for" You're A Good Man Charlie Brown" then we have to go to my niece's 8th birthday party and then we have tickets to see Fairport Convention.
No Tony's for me tonight.
-
FJL... you have at least two groupies out here on Long Island!
-
Good morning, all! This will be one very long day: I'm in Toyland till 1, than goddaughter Charlotte's dance recital at 2. This will probably run till 5, and then I have to deal with my apartment and look for some Christmas music.
At the moment the phone isn't ringing with work, so I'm getting a bit antsy that I'll never work again. I've been hoping no big offers will turn up while my father's health remains poor, but I'm a bit concerned there are no concert or recording offers turning up to bring in some extra cash to pay for things like plane tickets, car rentals, etc. Feast or famine, c'est l'histoire de ma vie.
-
FJL... you have at least two groupies out here on Long Island!
Three!

And the word of the day is: ERUMPENT!
There was a young laddie from Crumpent
Decided to play his dad's trumpent
He blew and he blew
But nothing came through
'Til his backside quite loudly erumpent!
(What, you were expecting something classy from a limerick?)

Good morning, DR SWW! I see DR Ben as well.
-
Good morning, Larry! Vibes! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Good morning. I'm making oatmeal.
That is all.
-
I've got a duck defrosting downstairs, and must decide how I'm going to cook it tomorrow (my day off, which is a Sunday reference, even though it'll be Monday).
Do I want to roast the bird whole, or cut it into it's proper pieces and do them separately?
Decisions, decisions.
I suppose I should re-watch Alton Brown's episode of Good Eats, "What's Up, Duck?" I recall he roasted the bird in his cast iron skillet, but there's a few steps I need to review.
-

That is ALL???
No fruit sprinkled atop the oatmeal? No brown sugar, or even a splash of cream?
:'(

I want to come to dinner! I've only had Peking Duck, and I would love to taste what you do with it.
-
Well the house is beginning to awake. On the plus side I have washed dried and folded two loads of laundry, with a third load currently in the dryer and the fourth load in the washer, I made two birthday cards for my niece and caught up here! Pretty productive for not yet 8 on a Sunday!!
Off to cook the breakfast!! Have a lovely day all and vibes to all what needs 'em.

There's an interview with Andrew Lloyd Webber (http://vegasblog.latimes.com/vegas/2006/06/interview_andre.html) in the LA Times, where the Lord talks about his new Las Vegas production of Phantom of the Opera, but nowhere in the piece does he mention the sexiest man in the world (http://www.theatermania.com/content/news.cfm/story/8365), who will be playing the lead.
In fact, he doesn't mention any of the actors at all.
PPPPBBBBBBBBBBBBBBTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!
-
And now, I must get ready for work. Laters (a ref to he who we blame for everything, of course).
-
If actors Jeremy and Jeremy London (who are twins) act on Broadway in different plays and both get nominated for the Antoinette Perry Award and only one wins. Would we then ask "Which Twin Has The Tony?"
-
For all the TAR fans here there is a new show called TREASURE HUNTERS that might be a bit like TAR. Anyone gonna watch?

I did have a banana and raisins in the oatmeal as well. Along with the oatmeal I had a mug of coffee with a splash of milk and I watched Fairly Odd Parents on Nickelodeon.
I was speaking Vixmom when I signed off (That is all). I was, in effect, channeling her since she will be E&T all day.

I'm not sure if anybody answered this, but THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA will be on many PBS stations live this Thursday june 15 at 9pm (till 11:30pm). Eastern. Not sure what happens on the West Coast.
If you're not sure if your pbs station is showing it, just go to pbs.org and plug in your local station. And it will give you the schedule. I know here, one of my pbs stations is showing it, while the other isn't.
However, i've heard that some pbs stations are showing it, but not live (i've heard on sunday june 18). So perhaps just check a few dates if you don't see it at first.
-
Woody - I suspect the reason they aren't mentioning the actors for PHANTOM in Vegas by name in situations like that is that some of the leads are double-cast. For example, the role of the Phantom is alternating between Brent Barrett and Anthony Crivello. If they focused on Brent Barrett, people who didn't see him might feel like they were getting the "second" cast, if that makes any sense.
-
Good morning!
More of the same here today: bright morning followed by hellish hot afternoon complete with thundershowers.
[sigh]
I'll be inside most of the day, I suspect, doing the usual Sunday chores like laundry. I must get the laptop moved to a convenient spot so I can watch the Tonys and take part in the party here.
-
As I suspected, none of our local PBS stations are carrying THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA live. If it's shown, it will be on a delay. Boo hiss!
-
Page Two Buck Dance!!!!!
-
I recorded the movie version of BEWITCHED off Starz!yesterday, so I'll be watching that today. It got awful reviews, and I'm not expecting much, but I'll watch just the same.
-
BK - Mainly, the Talkin' Broadway party was attended by the regular people on that chat board, often along with spouses/significant others. People whose names I think you might know included Peter Filichia, Barbara & Scott Siegel, Bill Russell and his other half bruceb, Bruce Yeko, Skip Kennon and Fred Landau, Rob Lester, Richard Connema (sp?), Wayman Wong, Seth Christenfeld, Milla, Ronnik (who incredibly won the grand door prize two years in a row, but everyone saw that it was pulled out of the hat fair and square).
How lovely that Kritzerland donated some stuff to the goody bags, by the way.
In the people-can-be-different-than-they-seem-in-cyberspace department, there was one person from All That Chat who seems at times a bit "nerdish" (for want of a better word) in his posts, but when I met him, he was articulate, erudite, knowledgeable, and a total delight. I can't reconcile the swell human being I met with the posting style. Go figure!
-
And DEADWOOD has its season premiere tonight which I'll be recording. I won't get around to watching it until tomorrow, but advanced word is the show is better than ever.
ENTOURAGE also begins its third season tonight. Yep, I'll be recording it, too.
-
Off to start on some of those Sunday chores.
WBBL.
-
DR LAURA - as DR JENNIFER posted, Light in the Piazza is scheduled on Thursday night in MOST areas....including here in Indiana....so check that night in your listing!
-
Tony Night!
DRJOSE - don't forget to take all the tags off that new tuxedo!
-
Off to work.....I will be alone....well my 16 year old nephew will be working with me....so....there you are.
-
I will only say this:
Show may to thees cat in payamas and Hi will mek herrrrrr purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
-
Good Sunday Morning to you, all and one!
I'm not sure what I'm going to do today. Yesterday was busy, busy, busy.
I spent a good deal of time assembling boxes for LPs, CDs and DVDs as I must put many of these items into storage. Thus far, I've filled the LP storage boxes (10 of them). My "move-into-storage" target date is the 4th of July weekend. Although the 4th is on a Tuesday, I'm taking that Monday off.
It's a year-in-advance solution to a pending move and the fact that I'm overflowing with items I have no in-condo storage space for.
But I have plenty of room in my storage locker/unit for these boxes since I have quite a bit in storage as it is.
I moved into the small condo more than 10 years ago thinking I'd be here 3-6 months. I moved in with the bare necessities...and have since filled the apartment with things that need "space" to be properly stored/displayed/made available.
Oh, well...
-
Good Morning!
Well... I'm awake... I've made the coffee...
Did I mention that I am awake?
;)
*That was for you DR TCB. ;D
-
As I mentioned yesterday, I had an unexpected windfall courtesy of the New York State Lottery Commission. It wasn't Mega-Millions huge, but it was nice "surprise". Alas, over the course of the past 48 hours, I've spent almost all of my winnings, but all my purchases have been worthy investments.
-

Did they pay you the full amount or did they take out taxes?
-
Also on the 4th of July weekend, I'm treating myself to a solo performance by Leslie Jordan called "Like a Dog on Linoleum." A July 2 matinee is the final performance, and that is the one I'm going to see.
For those who don't know Jordan by name, he played "Beverly Leslie" as a recurring character on "Will and Grace"....and he was a major character in "Sordid Lives."
-
Otherwise, things are pretty lazy here in Grovers Corners....
-
Buying the tux eventually came down to a "I need a tux now, and I don't want to deal with walking all over midtown comparing prices and styles" decision.
A couple of people and websites recommended a formal wear place down around Penn Station as the place I should go to get a great deal on a tuxedo. Well, once I got there, it turned out the place had closed about a month ago. All in the timing...
Since Macy's was across the street... -And since DR elmore had tipped me off to their formal wear and suit sale...
They had a couple of nice tuxes for sale, and I settled on a nice, basic tux. Nothing fancy. Heck, it's just a tux. I was also able to buy separates, so I didn't have to worry about any tailoring. And the pants and the jacket together cost me $149.00. -And because I was purchasing separates, I didn't have to pay any sales tax either! *There's now no tax on pieces of clothing under $110. :)
James and I headed out yesterday to buy the rest of my outfit for tonight: tux shirt, studs, cufflinks, shoes, etc. I had shopped at Sym's down in DC a couple of times, and they always had a very good, very well-priced selection of clothing. The Park Avenue store was five floors of amazing bargains. I was able to get everything I needed - and more! - for under $100!
*And, best of all, James and I seemed to be on the same page in regards to each other's clothing selection. There weren't too many raised eyebrows, and "Put that back now" looks as we were browsing the aisles. ;)
**And, as previously mentioned, I believe James has a new favorite bargain clothing store. :)
-
Did they pay you the full amount or did they take out taxes?
Well, since the amount I won was under $600, they just gave me the cash. If I had won over $600, I would have had to head downtown to the Lottery Commission office and deal with all the paperwork. As for now, I just need to keep track of my "receipt" for my taxes.

AH! Leslie Jordan! What a character! And character actor!
He did a show in Richmond for Triangle Players a couple of years ago, Hysterical Blindness and Other Southern Tragedies That Have Plagues My Life Thus Far. Quite the hoot!
-
In about an hour I shall hie myself the Wood of Sher to pick up my 4 year old grandneice Taylor. We shall then hop on the train to downtown Portland where we have orchestra seats at Keller Auditorium to see SWAN LAKE!
-
As for Tony Predictions...
Well.. I need to iron my shirt and lay out the rest of my clothes for tonight... So...
*And, yes, I will have my camera with me... Hopefully, I'll be able to snap a couple of pics every now and then.
**Anyone want a Tony Playbill? ;)
-
OH! And I had my first manicure and pedicure yesterday...
:)
-
I'm up, I'm up - another good night's sleep. I'll start making the tuna pasta salad now, and by the time I'm done, I should be ready for my jog. I've been jogging steadily with no days off for over three weeks now.
-
Forgot to mention: notable theatre historian Ken Bloom was also at the All that Chat party, as was critic Bob Rendell.
I may be intermittently E&T during the HHW Tony party, since our quiet evening here suddenly mushroomed into a small gathering.
-
Then have everyone at the small gathering POST!
-
That's an idea!
-
Was able to snag tickets to the final performance of PAJAMA GAME at regular non-benefit prices. They're all the way to the side, but it'll be fun being "in the room" for Connick's last perf. But still, I wouldn't have imagined years ago I'd ever consider it a bargain to get side orchestra tickets for $110!!!
That was a mix of joy and rant, wasn't it?

;D Oh, but you combine the two so well
-
A little bitter with the sweet, I guess
-
And one for Marshall
-
A reference to Kathleen Marshall getting another Tony for PJ GAME, that was.
-
Hmmm...maybe if I post enough during the day, I won't get bitch-slapped for being too E&T during the actual awards :)
-
I went down to the office this morning because I wanted to see if there was mail or anything else I needed. I'm considering cutting this break a couple weeks shorter than planned and getting back to work after one more week off. I finally unwound and I have some plans that are starting to gel in a very good way. Besides, the counselor that I'm seeing to get the time off is driving me nuts. I'd rather go to the office.
-
Support vibes for Cillaliz, however things work out with your work schedule
-
DR Jose, congrats on the lottery win. If I win 2 dollars or even a free pick I tell everyone I won the lottery. I've never won as much as you did on the lottery that's way cool.
-
Thanks FJL, I'm really in great spirits. I think I'm actually getting bored and going to work is starting to sound like fun, LOL
-
Is anyone from the West Coast going to watch the Tonys live on the net?

Thank you, Jose, I was curious.
-
Thank you, Jose, I was curious.
Well... Two and a half hours later... Finally!
;D
-
DR FJL - How very kind of you to get tickets for me and James.
:)
-
Jose - The PJ GAME tickets are ALL the way to the side, so i figured you guys wouldn't have wanted them. But if any center seats pop up at those dirt-cheap non-benefit prices for the final performance, you'll be the first ones I'll call. :)
BTW, Jose, are you planning on seeing MAME in DC? I do have an extra (i.e., free if you want it) box-seat ticket for the June 24th matinee, if you've been looking for an excuse to take a trip to the Washington area. And I also have an extra (i.e., free if you want it) general admission ticket to ASSASSINS at Signature in Arlington for June 24th evening, but I figure you could get into that one free on your own.
-
Back from a difficult jog (did go the full distance, though), then I used up some credit and got the new Fox Charlie Chan box set.
What time is the Tony broadcast on the West Coast?
-
OH! And I had my first manicure and pedicure yesterday...
:)
I don't think open-toed shoes are what you should wear with a tuxedo.

Aww... Thanks. ;)
As for Mame and Assassins... Are you no longer going? Or did someone else in your party end up cancelling? -I would love to have the tickets, but I'm also trying to get a pair, so...
*And just so that you - and everyone else who reads this site knows - a little birdie has heard rumors that Signature will most likely extend the run again by one more week.
-
I don't think open-toed shoes are what you should wear with a tuxedo.
Well... At least I wasn't the one who had his toe-nails painted/polished blue. ;) The color was called "Aruba" - I guess to look like the ocean in Aruba. And, yes, I picked it!
;)
-
Jose - yes, my friend Julie and I are still going, we just happen to have the extra tickets. As I'm sure you know, the box at the Kennedy center is actually a pretty decent seat, unlike boxes in Broadway theaters. We also have an extra seat in row H orchestra (fifth row, orch starts with row D), but all the way to the side for that matinee; we got them when tickets were looking scarce, but have shall-we-say "upgraded" our seats so that we can sit together while just eating the cost of the two singles. So they're yours if you want 'em and I'll be able to take a legit entertainment dedcution for them if you use them. :) But don't you have a knack for charming the box office into bettering your seating, maybe you could charm your way into improving that row H side seat?
The ASSASSINS ticket is general admission, so if you got another general admission, clearly you and James could sit together.

Ah... Hmm... Let me get through tonight, and then I'll get back to you with tomorrow. I was planning on heading down to DC that weekend as it was, so...
Thanks for keeping me in mind.
-
Jose - Sure, hope you can use them.
-
FInally finished GIRL CRAZY early this afternoon. It's a longer film than I remembered. I think Judy is photographed more beautifully here than in any of her other black and white films. She looks radiant throughout.
-
Then, I put in ANNIE GET YOUR GUN and watched it again. Just watched the film proper this time, none of the extras. The film looks like it was filmed yesterday apart from being in the old Academy ratio.
-
Then, I watched BEWITCHED which I had recorded off Starz! It's not a very good film, and I think the mistake Nora Ephron made was not trusting the original TV concept. Trying to go it one better by focusing on the lives of the two actors remaking the TV series was a big mistake. The TV characters were much mroe interesting than the warmed over, poorly written characters in the "real world." Shirley MacLaine was terribly misused as the Endora character, and the only one with any comic zing at all was Steve Carrell playing Uncle Arthur.
I think Nicole Kidman would have made a fine Samantha if she had been allowed to PLAY Samantha rather than the character she was actually playing who was trying to act Samantha in a TV remake of the TV series. Really just a lousy concept for the film.
-
Ended the afternoon with GROUNDS FOR MARRIAGE, a 1950 romantic comedy with Van Johnson and Kathryn Grayson. It's a slight film, but I've always liked it. David Raksin's "Toy Concertino" is a perfectly charming little ditty.
-
The TOnys start on the East Coast at 8 p.m. on CBS, so I'd guess that's when they'll be on in the West as well.
-
"All alone, I'm so all alone!"
-
Good Afternoon!
Well... I'll be waving at all of ya'!
:)
Laters...

So, what time is the West Coast Tony Awards show?
-
Off to put away folded laundry and then clean the guest bath. Will be back soon for the Tony party.

I've got a duck defrosting downstairs, and must decide how I'm going to cook it tomorrow (my day off, which is a Sunday reference, even though it'll be Monday).

I wish they would turn off that Light in the Piazza!
It keeps me awake! ;)

Once I only paid 2 cents... a dance!
(Love it or leave it!) ;)

Tony Night!
Wrong!
It's Tonight sung by Tony! ;D
-
I've all stopped you cold, haven't I?
Sorry! I'll scram! LOL!
-
Oh, you poor baby! For the past couple of weeks, I've been getting up at dawn, in order to get to work on time. (They've discovered I'm good at taking care of the early chores, like restocking the milk in the front chill chest, taking the trash to the compactor, that sort of thing. I'm a wimp...and I know it. ;) (a Romanovsky and Phillips reference)
-
Taking Trash To The Compactor sounds like a rapp song to me!
-
Oh.... before I scram... wanted to ask DR elmore!
Got the following cd tonight (second hand!)
Victor Herbert; The American Girl
The Eastman-Dryden Orchestra
Donald Hunsberger conductor.
Teresa Ringholz soprano.
What's your "verdict"? I haven't listened to it yet!
Thanks!
-
Is anyone from the West Coast going to watch the Tonys live on the net?
Is the whole awards show going to be available over the Internet? I thought that it was just the pre-show stuff that was going to be webcast.
-
Hello, all! I'm back from Charlotte's dance recital, and she's off to the Tony Awards and thrilled about it. The recital was way toooo long, but there were some wonderful moments. I got back to find a phone message about a job! Of course, I may not like the show, or they may not like me, but it may all work out fine. We'll see when we talk tonight or tomorrow.
I just had a phone call from DR Ginny in a car just outside Normal, IL. She asked about all of you and sent her wishes for a successful Tony Partay! By the time we got off the phone, she was back to Normal.
Keep those vibes coming!

I'm not crazy about the soprano, who's got a career going well, but I like the chamber orchestra and the medleys from the various shows, published for commercial usage, are quite wonderful. There are three recordings in that Herbert series.

Merci for the "feedback"! I see that the soprano only sings one song!
Vibes to you, your dad and the whole family!
-
I just had a phone call from DR Ginny in a car just outside Normal, IL. She asked about all of you and sent her wishes for a successful Tony Partay! By the time we got off the phone, she was back to Normal.
:D :D
Even I got it, so... !
-
Will no one answer a simple question that I've now asked twice? What is the fersluganah time of the Tony Awards on the West Coast?
-
8:00 pm PT BK. Sad when you have to check with the other side of the world!
-
Time was from the official Tony site.
-
As it is Monday morning here we of course already know the results. "Satorial" was the press word for Mr Jose Simbulan.
-

Sorry I missed it! I'm watching the "red carpet" coverage on-line.
-
And yes, the TV broadcast will start at 8:00 p.m., and is supposed to end at 11:00 p.m.

8:00 pm PT BK. Sad when you have to check with the other side of the world!
Easy as pie.... as we don't say in France! Just check the Official Site and it says right there IN LARGE LETTERS (and figures!)
JUNE 11 8 P.M. ET/PT on CBS....
Just a mouse click away... ;)
-
As it is Monday morning here we of course already know the results. "Satorial" was the press word for Mr Jose Simbulan.
Well, here we know that Audrey Tautou won for Da Vinci Code the Musical, with music by Elton John.
GLADIATOR won best costumes, that should make DR MBarnum happy!
Ooops..... I should have mentioned SPOILERS!
Oh la la! :o :D
-
Tony Night.
YES DR JOSE I want a Tony PLAYBILL if it isn't too late.
-
Now, I am dealing with a family crisis....but I am hoping to be back in time for the HHW TONY PAR-TAY!!
-
As it is Monday morning here we of course already know the results. "Satorial" was the press word for Mr Jose Simbulan.
British papers said:
BLOODY SARTORIAL actually! ;)

Tony Night.
YES DR JOSE I want a Tony PLAYBILL if it isn't too late.
Tony Tonight!
Maria Tomorrow! :D
-
Sorry I missed it! I'm watching the "red carpet" coverage on-line.
I'm trying to watch it, too--but the video is very choppy. The audio is clear as a bell (as clear as a bell coming over the internet, that is.)
-
I am so exicted about the Tony Awards tonight. I don't have a lot of favorites, but I am keeping my fingers crossed for BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN -- THE MUSICAL.
-

Me two!
And my favourite song from it is
MUSICAL BEANS! ;)
-
Sorry I missed it! I'm watching the "red carpet" coverage on-line.
I heard the "red carpet" is blue this year! 8)
-
I'm trying to watch it, too--but the video is very choppy. The audio is clear as a bell (as clear as a bell coming over the internet, that is.)
Choppy?!
Put the blame on Sweeney! ;)
(Never mind! it works better in French than in English!)
-
They're presenting the Regional Tony Award...Seattle's Intiman Theater!
-
The award also includes a $25,000 grant.
-
I've Got A Duck Defrosting Downstairs....
title to my next French Cuisine Recipes! ;)
(Better than I've Got A Bat In My Belfry, right?!)
That depends on which one is more accurate.
-
That depends on which one is more accurate.
Well, only I can tell I guess!
-
The award also includes a $25,000 grant.
Hmmm.... Hugh's worth a lot of money these days! ;)
-
They're about to announce best orchestrator!
-
I won't say who won, but I think Elmore will be disappointed.
-
I'll have to read about the Tonys in the paper tomorrow -- I always fall asleep during the broadcast.
-
Don't let's mention winners and losers until the West Coast begins. You can, however, mention fashion, bad behavior, etc.
-
Norbert Leo Butz and Victoria Clark are presenting all the awards in this pre-TV-webcast and they're funny.
-
I am so exicted about the Tony Awards tonight. I don't have a lot of favorites, but I am keeping my fingers crossed for BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN -- THE MUSICAL.
And what great casting choices:
Hunter Foster and Norbert Leo Butz
[/size]
-
I won't say who won, but I think Elmore will be disappointed.
Larry Blank robbed this year, Larry Hochman robbed last year. I'm still waiting.
-
I won't say who won, but I think Elmore will be disappointed.
Would that be NEW????
(Oh I'm nasty!!)
-
Larry Blank robbed this year, Larry Hochman robbed last year. I'm still waiting.
A BUNCH OF ROBBERS!
Oh... that's my next musical's title! ;)
-
Victoria is wearing a strapless multi-hued blue pastel dress that's quite lovely. Norbert is wearing a tux and is quite dapper. :)
-
And what great casting choices:

Gee!
TCB's quotting himself now!
Self-quotting Award goes to.... LOL!

Victoria who?
Norbert who?
Us, Europeans know so few! :)

I haven't been keeping track, though.

Us, Europeans know so few! :)
George, just keep saying that it is Julie Andrews and Michael Ball, and François will be satisfied.
-
George, just keep saying that it is Julie Andrews and Michael Ball, and François will be satisfied.
Julie will be there...later in the evening.
-
They're done with the first 10 awards. Now they're just showing the stage with nothing happening.
-
Norbert Leo Butz and Victoria Clark. They're presenting the first 10 Tony Awards on an Internet-only webcast.
Thanks!
-
Oh, if it's just the pre-awards awards, let's talk about them immediately. Who won orchestration - Sweeney? Feh.
-
Don't let's mention winners and losers until the West Coast begins. You can, however, mention fashion, bad behavior, etc.
I won't say who, but one winner needs a visit to Sweeney Todd's Tonsorial Parlor for his eyebrows.
-
And it's over...now the West Coast has three hours and 12 minutes...the East Coast only has 12 minutes to wait.
-
George, just keep saying that it is Julie Andrews and Michael Ball, and François will be satisfied.
Nope!
It's Tomovoz who "digs" Michael Ball!
I'm more Michael Feinstein.... and I need more than that to be... satisfied! :D 8)
-
Just a warning...if you DON'T want to know who won, DON'T go to Playbill.com. The winners are in the headlines!!
-
George, just keep saying that it is Julie Andrews and Michael Ball, and François will be satisfied.
Actually, you are right! I'm so dumb that... I don't even have to tell you so, since all of you know that by now!
-
I finished watching GROUNDS FOR MARRIAGE. I'm not a great fan of Van Johnson, but I think he's probably the precious he's ever been in this movie. I love the sequence while he comes down with a cold while lecturing about how not to catch a cold.
-
Then, I watched the las of the margaret Rutherford MARPLE movies which I hadn't yet watched from the box - MURDER AHOY! I think it's the weakest of the four Marple films, but iut's pretty good fun. There was a second or two or print spotting, but nothing serious. Most of it looked great.
-
Page Six Dance!!!
-
I noticed on my cable guide that once again, the Tonys are NOT being broadcast in high definition. Boo!
-
Nope!
It's Tomovoz who "digs" Michael Ball!
I'm more Michael Feinstein.... and I need more than that to be... satisfied! :D 8)
That's not what I heard!
-
Julie A. (Dame!) looks gorgeous all in black!
Has Miss Luker put on weight?!
-
From the official tonyawards.com site
FOR WEST COAST VIEWERS
The Tony telecast will be recorded for prime-time broadcast on the West Coast at 8:00 p.m. PT. However, for the benefit of those fans across the globe who do not have access to the broadcast, our website coverage of the Tony Awards is live. We will post the winners' names as they are announced, beginning at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT. So if you prefer to remain in suspense until you watch the telecast, we suggest that you log on for our live Tony red carpet and pre-show coverage beginning at 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT. Then close your browser and come back after the telecast is over, at which point you can watch video clips of backstage interviews with the winners and presenters.
So I guess that means they are posting winners on the site live but not showing the telecast?
-
That's not what I heard!
Gossips that ERUMPENT!
-
Julie A. (Dame!) looks gorgeous all in black!
Has Miss Luker put on weight?!

Harry Conncik looked and sounded terrified.

Almost 160 posts by 8:00 p.m. ET, we must be breaking all HHW records!!!
-
Kyra Sedgewick looks wonderful.
-
Almost 160 posts by 8:00 p.m. ET, we must be breaking all HHW records!!!
Should we get a Tony for that?!
-
Kyra Sedgewick looks wonderful.
Yes, at first glance, but THE CLOSER you look..........................
-
Only 6 minutes into show and they've already presented first Tony for Best Featured Actor
-
I think the supporting actor may have won for his movie work, but that's just a guess.
-
My, Gregg Edelman looks so thin!!
-
Another award, no huge surprise.
-
Wow, Patti can be cast in Hairspray now!
Talk about Big Mamma!
Big Mamma Mia! Yeah!
-
Another award, no huge surprise.
Patti to me is a HUGE surprise!
-
Who was that sitting with Tyne Daly? Looked like Tim Curry with no hair.
-
Best Orchestrations!!!
I'm SURE Larry has had a heart attack!!
-
Bernadette does NOT age!
-
Oh my. a TV commercial for the Broadway version of MARY POPPINS. I know Disney can afford it, but that's rare to see a Broadway show buying national time on prime time TV.
-
Oh my. a TV commercial for the Broadway version of MARY POPPINS. I know Disney can afford it, but that's rare to see a Broadway show buying national time on prime time TV.
We didn't have that commercial here
-
Two Velmas for the price of one.
-
Here comes the choreography award.
-
Barbara looks radiant in her colourful outfit
-
Wow, Patti can be cast in Hairspray now!
Talk about Big Mamma!
Big Mamma Mia! Yeah!
From Playbill.com
-
Who is the worst-dressed and the best-dressed? has anyone made a fool out of themselves? Have there been any musical numbers?
-
Here comes the choreography award.
Will Robbins win?!
-
Must be disappointing to be a presenter after you've lost the award.
-
There wasn't much applause for tat winner for Best Director.
-
Here comes the scene from CHAPARONE.
-
Drowsy Chaperone, starting with man in chair watching the Tony Award Show on his tv set and playing "Thank you" like you play Bob while watching Bob Newhart.
-
Allan Cumming and Cyndi Lauper; such a "dashing" couple!
It's all in the hair!
-
A grand tour de force for Sutton Foster.
-
"Show Off' from Drowsy Chaperone was great! I really want to see that show.
-
There's a commercial for the upcoming revival of A CHORUS LINE!
-
LOL, can you imagine how drunk you'd get if you played "thank you" and took a shot everytime someone said "thank you" at an awards show..
-
There's a commercial for the upcoming revival of A CHORUS LINE!
We had that - it was an American Express commercial
-
LOL, can you imagine how drunk you'd get if you played "thank you" and took a shot everytime someone said "thank you" at an awards show..
Are you going to let us know?? ;)
-
There's a commercial for the upcoming revival of A CHORUS LINE!
The new version will have the dancers... doing their own dancing!! :D ???
-
It took me a second to realize that was the set-up for DROWSY CHAPARONE.
-
LOL, can you imagine how drunk you'd get if you played "thank you" and took a shot everytime someone said "thank you" at an awards show..
I'm no chaperone but I'd get quite drowsy in New Jersey!
-
Are you going to let us know?? ;)
No, your Honor! ;)
-
Paul Rudd is so cute.
-
Paul Rudd is so cute.
He should have brought his glasses if he can't see without them
-
Paul Rudd is so cute.
Better than Paul Cutt is so rude! ;)
-
Oh, nice to see Barbara Cook.
-
Not much applause for Andrew Lloyd Webber and David Zippel for THE WOMAN IN WHITE. Webber isn't there.
I guess he didn't expect to win.
-
Love Joanna Gleason and Neil Patrick Harris.
-
SWEENEY excerpt on now.
-
Next song is Sweeney Todd "Attend the Tale of Sweeney Todd"
-
Well, we now officially know who "BoreDetector" is.
-
I don't think Patti's accent is much better than it was years ago when she did the SWEENEY concert. It's just barely there.
-
There's a commercial for THE LION KING.
-
I've eaten three helpings of tuna pasta salad, but that's all I'm eating today, so I think it's fine, given the jog and all. I figured I could eat half of what I made today and the other half tomorrow. If I do, it's really only about a thousand calories per day - so I could conceivably have a bit more if I get hungry later.
-
Best Musical Director was another pretty much expected win.
-
Getting ready for the JERSEY BOYS segment.
-
Right now, in honor of the Tony Awards, I'm listening to Donald's Broadway Radio Show, with selections from the all the nominated musicals.
-
Ooooooohhh! I'm just following along here - having no TV... later, I'll get the news online, but no celebrities, no musical numbers, no tuna pasta salad...
-
I am relaxing after a busy family weekend - the nephew's graduation from U of W, my brother's visit... today I got back to my upcoming presentation in pursuit of a swell new gig... keep fingers crossed, please...
-
gonna go have something to eat - a salad! and I have some frozen blueberries in the freezer for later. Later, gators!
-
Fingers crossed for DR PennyO
-
Ah ha!
Worst dress of the night so far....Bebe Neuwirth
-
Yep, I can see why audiences get excited by JERSEY BOYS, especially Baby Boomers.
-
Not too many audience shots so haven't seen DR Jose
-
We are going to have an appearance by an egregious personality.
-
Agree Harry Connick looked Scared to DEATH during the opening song....which was a medley that sucked anyway.
-
LOL, I was just thinking I could skip the Jersey Boys
-
Choreographer gave thank you speech that a director should have given....
-
I am relaxing after a busy family weekend - the nephew's graduation from U of W, my brother's visit... today I got back to my upcoming presentation in pursuit of a swell new gig... keep fingers crossed, please...
PennyO., what part of the country would this new project be located?
-
Well I was really thinking that it looks like a concert more than a Broadway show,
-
Great acceptances by musical score/lyrics winners.
Not so great acceptance by book winners.....joke fell REALLY flat.....must have sounded funny...but is actually a GREAT insult!
-
Loved the CHAPERONE and SWEENEY numbers....I got my choices sung...so far!!!
Tyne Daly is still fat.
-
If Frankie Valli had REALLY looked like that....he would have been Fabian.
Surprise when Joe Pesci comes out.
-
Agree Harry Connick looked Scared to DEATH during the opening song....which was a medley that sucked anyway.
He's appeared in front of audiences many times. Was it the "live" aspect that was freaking him out? Was it the Broadway audience, many of whom would know good from bad.
I mean, after hearing him struggle with his nerves and have trouble negotiating key changes, maybe I should be more forgiving of the AMERICAN IDOL contestants.
-
I'll skip JERSEY BOYS.....unless those guys do it nakey.
-
Today I decided to paint the lower part of my bathroom (wallpaper on top and ceiling, paint below) well, I didn't like the paint with the wall paper and have never really liked the wallpaper, so I ripped it off. I now have a royal blue ceiling (who would do that) and some left over wall paper. So, the new project I wasn't planning on doing will be redecorating the bathroom for the next couple days. Should be fun
-
I liked the winning musical director's speech.
-
Yes DR MATTH....very good director's speech....
-
Harvey Fierstein just said "A gay man's work is never done" I missed what he was referring to
-
Audra and Harvey....OY!!!
-
Hand I ham telling hugh....Ham nut goooooooooooooooooooinnggg!
Whew.....still terrible.
-
I'm sure I'll see JERSEY when the tour comes through here.
-
Harvey Fierstein just said "A gay man's work is never done" I missed what he was referring to
Didn't get it either.... 8)
-
Hal and Kristen cute couple.
-
Paul Rudd made a fool of himself, if truth be told.....oh well.
-
The revival play award is now.
-
Love Hal's story. Kristin Bell is adorable in VERONICA MARS.
-
Another no surprise winner.
-
Hal and Kristen very nice....funny and respectful. Good win for play revival....my choice as well.
-
Paul Rudd made a fool of himself, if truth be told.....oh well.
Wear contacts or glasses if you're nearsighted. Oy!
-
When did they start having a musical director category??? This year???
Has anyone received a PM from someone they don't know, asking what the "friend" thing was all about?
-

Has anyone received a PM from someone they don't know, asking what the "friend" thing was all about?
1960. Bob Fosse won the first one in that new category.
-
Here is the star of DR MARIA's movie!
-
What a partay - can't wait for the West Coast to begin, so we can join in in a meaningful way.
-
THE WEDDING SINGER bow.
-
Here comes the WEDDING SINGER
-
Yuck, don't like Molly Ringwald's dress at all
-
Oh, director of a musical, not MUSICAL DIRECTOR!!!
-
When did they start having a musical director category??? This year???
Has anyone received a PM from someone they don't know, asking what the "friend" thing was all about?
I think it's director of a musical. 8)
-
Molly needs to see a designer.
-
JHC....I hate this whole song....
Lyrics, music, costumes, and "dance" - whew!
-
Has anyone received a PM from someone they don't know, asking what the "friend" thing was all about?
Not me...should I know what this "friend" thing is?
-
WEDDING SINGER reminded me of HAIRSPRAY but didn't seem as much fun.
-
Promo for Cyndi and Alan....looks GOOD!!!!
-
I really didn't like the song from the WEDDING SINGER at all. Didn't like the choreography either
-
I haven't seen DR JOSE yet.....but there are some humdingers in the audience fer sure.
-
Don't know from "friend" and PM.....
-
I really didn't like the song from the WEDDING SINGER at all. Didn't like the choreography either
If we both feel that way....it CAN'T be any good! :o
-
When did they start having a musical director category??? This year???
Has anyone received a PM from someone they don't know, asking what the "friend" thing was all about?
Director of a musical. Musical director implies the conductor.
-
SEASCAPE....I don't care how much actors like to do it....and directors and designers love it....it is a CHORE and a BORE for a lot us in the audience!
-
If we both feel that way....it CAN'T be any good! :o
;D ;D ;D
-
Is Zoe Akins as pretentious in performance as she seems to be?
-
Love Hal's story. Kristin Bell is adorable in VERONICA MARS.
Hal who??
-
Mark Twain Holbrook....aka....Mr Dixie Carter
-
Back to Paul Rudd for a moment. I remember when Lucy came out to prsent an award (at the Emmys, I think), and she had forgotten her glasses backstage and was terrified. That's very different from Paul Rudd walking out there without knowing he'd have trouble. Don't they have rehearsals in the afternoon?
-
The A Perry people look fried!
-

Or Carol Channing at the beginning of the "Jerry Herman's Broadway at the Hollywood Bowl." She totally couldn't see what she was supposed to read.

He kept saying "I need that surgery, I really need surgery" Sheesh!

Yup exactly.
I think the story was later told that someone had called Lucy backstage and told her Babalu Jr had been in a car wreck and hurt just before she went on...and even though it was a prank call, Lu was rattled and forgot her specs. 8) 8)
-
Does this guy have green or blue hair?
-
Featured Musical Actress now.
-
Featured actress musical.....hurray!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Does this guy have green or blue hair?
Think it was just the lights
-
Her speech is really funny
-
I love T.R. Knight from GREY'S ANATOMY.
No surprise with the award.
-
Job vibes for elmore!!!!
Feel better Vixmom!
Cillaliz-great news you are quickly unwinding.
-
THREEPENNY OPERA excerpt now.
-
Terrific acceptance speech from the winner featured actress musical. Beautiful dress too.
Here come THREEPENNY....
-
Does Ana Gasteyer have a tiara on?
-
This won't sell any tickets to the show, I don't think.
-
I love T.R. Knight from GREY'S ANATOMY.
What was he doing?
-
Intrigued by Cyndi and Alan....both very nice to look at....on the scary side, of course.
-
What was he doing?
Co-presenting....very cute and funny
-
Does Ana Gasteyer have a tiara on?
Does anyone still wear...a....tiara! ;D
-
Alan Cumming reminds me of PeeWee Herman...what was his name Paul Reubens? I don't know why, but That's who I think of when I see him
-
Does anyone still wear...a....tiara! ;D
Ana does....I could tell when she turned her head at the end of their intro
-
Is Zoe Akins as pretentious in performance as she seems to be?
She's quite wonderful.
-
I like last year's supporting actress winner presenting to this year's winner. The Oscars do it (though with man presenting to women and so on), and it would be nice to do it always with the Tonys if possible.
-
Can't wait for the show to start.
-
They're doing play excerpts this year. Hooray!
-
Whew!!!
New ugliest dress of the night....Somebody Murchison....green curtains....with a jacket.
-
Very short exerpts from Best Play Nominees
-
Alan Cumming reminds me of PeeWee Herman...what was his name Paul Reubens? I don't know why, but That's who I think of when I see him
Ditto
-
Well, very teeny, tiny excerpts.
-
She's quite wonderful.
Thanks, DR ELMORE. I will accept YOUR evaluation. ;D
-
Can you call about 5 1/2 seconds an excerpt?
-
Fingers are crossed Penny!!
-
What is it? No more than four lines from each play?
-
Oh....I mixed by Akins up with my Wanamakers!
-
I love John Tartaglia.
-
Here come John and Rod!!!
-
Ditto
LOL! I thought maybe it was just me
-
Here come John and Rod!!!
Too funny as presenters
-
The FIRST big surprse of the night!
-
Surprise winner featured musical actor....who knew???
-
VERY popular win, it seems!
-
Listen to that applause = guess what's going to win Best Musical?
-
Moving and personal acceptance speech by winner.....
-
Listen to that applause = guess what's going to win Best Musical?
I think you may be onto something there, my friend. 8)
-
Listen to that applause = guess what's going to win Best Musical?
Naw, I don't think so
-
We went to a local craft fair today & ran into our house sitter. She forgot to tell us she would be singing at the fair and we missed her by a few minutes-darn.
No award watching for me. I need to pack. Tomorrow we see our international son. :D
-
Oh it's DR ELMORE's favorite performer!
-
Damn he mispronounced it!
-
Lifetime Achievement Award. Hal Prince is GREAT, but he's got 20 Tonys. How about an award to Julie Andrews?
-
I get to hear Howard McGillan sing PHANTOM.
-
Grudging applause for PHANTOM
-
Lifetime Achievement Award. Hal Prince is GREAT, but he's got 20 Tonys. How about an award to Julie Andrews?
I think she burned that bridge. ;D
-
Looks like Best Actor in a Play is next.
-
I think she burned that bridge. ;D
I read that it's been offered to her, and she's declined the honor.
-
Wow.....DREAMGIRLS movie promo.....WOW!!! I love that song...but them gals got some junk in the trunk.
-
I read that it's been offered to her, and she's declined the honor.
Ahhhhhhh..... 8)
-
There's a commercial for the movie of DREAMGIRLS!
Not until Christmas, of course. I read they showed four extended sequences at Cannes and they went over big.
-
Klaatu barada nikto.
-
Here's last year's Best Actor giving this year's Best Actor award.
-
Great moment.....for a woman in a ugly dress.
-
Here's last year's Best Actor giving this year's Best Actor award.
Play or musical??
-
Oh, it's Best Actress, not Best Actor.
-
No surprise there.
-
Popular choice for best featured actress in play....not MY choice...but a popular one.
-
Best actress? I read it wrong....
-
YEAH!!! I wanted her to win
-
Don't like Julia Roberts' dress.
-
They didn't have time to finish Julia Roberts' dress....and she is crazy.
-
Leading actor.....
....what the #*$&& is he wearing?
-
No surprise with Best Actor.
-
So who WAS David Schwimmer's boyfriend in THE CAINE MUTINY COURT MARTIAL?
-
Don't like Julia's hair or dress
-
Best Actor in a play quite funny
-
He's the first one who had to be played out!
-
It's BABE!!!!
-
OMG - my third song wish granted!!!
-
Kelli O'Hara reminds me a little of REba.
-
Gee, I can't wait for 8:00 p.m. So far, I am not having a good time. I feel like Helen Keller at a Marcel Marceau performance.
-
Hold the phone, Agnes...THIS is Tony Award winning choreography?
-
Gee, I can't wait for 8:00 p.m. So far, I am not having a good time. I feel like Helen Keller at a Marcel Marceau performance.
LOL!!
-
I've always loved THE PAJAMA GAME, and there's no way to ruin it with competent people. I don't think Harry rises to the level of the others.
-
So who WAS David Schwimmer's boyfriend in THE CAINE MUTINY COURT MARTIAL?
:o ???
-
Fingers are crossed Penny!!
Penny is up for a Tony?
-
So who WAS David Schwimmer's boyfriend in THE CAINE MUTINY COURT MARTIAL?
From what I understand, it was a very small part, er, role.
-
From what I understand, it was a very small part, er, role.
:o
;)
-
Norbert looks luscious.
-
Norbert and Victoria! Love them!
-
I've always loved THE PAJAMA GAME, and there's no way to ruin it with competent people. I don't think Harry rises to the level of the others.
Bingo! But HE sells the tickets. ;D
-
Gee, I can't wait for 8:00 p.m. So far, I am not having a good time. I feel like Helen Keller at a Marcel Marceau performance.
Me, too...LOL!
I feel like I'm at a party and all the other guests are shutting me out...I'm only hearing what the wait staff are saying and they aren't naming names.
Oh, frustration! It's the east coast kimlets bursting at the seams with NON-news and posting it here!
:D ;D :D ;D
-
Laundry list of winners.....
-
Norbert looks luscious.
Now THERE's a revealing comment.
-
Just saw THE eyebrows. Whew!
-
Well, I have to take a little break and set up my VCRs to tape the TV broadcast...and I need to do some laundry. I have no more clean
under whites (as opposed to colors). ;)
-
Musical revival! Semi shocker!!!!
-
I know! I'll re-live past Tony ceremonies in my mind until 8 p.m. PDT:
"Ohhhhh, the grass is always greener..."
-
ANDREWS...... WALTON....... BRIDGE!!!!!
The name Walton is Anglo-Saxon in origin and is believed to mean "farm of the Britons" or to have meant 'Saxon settlement'. Even before the Romans and the Saxons were present, there was a Celtic settlement here. The Anglo-Saxon word for the Celtic inhabitants who lived here before them is "Wealas".
Walton-on-Thames was also identified by William Camden as the place where Caesar forded the Thames on his second invasion of Britain, however according to Elmbridge Museum there is no evidence to support this.
In the Doomsday Book "waletona" was noted as having a church, two mills and a fishery.
Standing on the highest point of town, St. Mary's Parish Church dates back to before the Domesday Book (1086 AD). The church is of saxon origin, with parts dating back to the 12th and 15th centuries. The square flint tower, supported by a 19th century brick buttress, contains a peal of 6 bells, the oldest bearing the date 1606.
During the first world war New Zealand troops were hospitalised in the now demolished Mount Felix House. They are remembered by the street name New Zealand Avenue, the Wellington Pub and a small memorial in the Homebase car park.
Julia Elizabeth Wells was born October 1, 1935 in Walton-on-Thames, and later became Dame Julie Andrews.
Hersham and Walton Motors (HWM), now an Aston Martin and Audi dealer, constructed its own racing car in the early 1950s. Stirling Moss won his first Formula One Grand Prix in an HWM. In addition HWM was the world's first Aston Martin dealership.
There have been five bridges on the site so far and plans are well advanced for the sixth. Prior to the first bridge there was a ferry which goes back to, at least, the 15th century.
The first bridge, constructed between 1748 and 1750, was a wooden structure that stood until 1783. Canaletto painted a picture of this bridge in 1754.
The second bridge was constructed in 1788 and stood until 1859. Constructed of brick and stone it lasted much longer that its predecessor. This bridge was painted by Turner in 1805 following his sketching tour of the river Thames and Wey at that time.
??? ???
-
There's a surprise!
-
Semi-shocker is a good way to put it.
-
A part-time eel won a Tony?
-
Who's the Ape Woman sitting beside Kathleen Marshall?
-
Alfre Woodard has a road construction orange dress on
-
Tribute to August Wilson and Wendy Wasserstein.
-
What's amazing is the number of posts being generated about the Tonys without a single winner actually being revealed.
It's like a marathon charades game...but the actual solution never gets mentioned...it's just "Oh, that's cool" and on to the next round of gesticulations.
-
Alfre's breasts are perky.....but it's a tribute to August and Wendy....
-
I love THE HEIDI CHRONICLES
-
Wow! I didn't see THAT coming.
Why would they have voted for THAT?
Ewwwww!!!
-
We're just following the rules....
-
Who's the Ape Woman sitting beside Kathleen Marshall?
Cheeta?!
-
Man, I am SO DISappointed!
Of all the nominees, that was the worst possible choice!
-
They are doing a tributes to those who died this year
-
Man, I am SO DISappointed!
Of all the nominees, that was the worst possible choice!
I agree!
-
We're just following the rules....
Understood....but it's page after page of reaction but no idea what you're reacting to.
I'll go away.
-
They are doing a tributes to those who died this year
That should make them happy! ;)
-
Lovely tribute....simple....brings a tear to the eye....
-
In Memoriam segment more subdued than at other award shows. No clips to show of many of them, so they could only show pictures.
-
Cheeta?!
Could be! ;D
-
Understood....but it's page after page of reaction but no idea what you're reacting to.
I'll go away.
Guessing game!
-
That should make them happy! ;)
LOL...I'd say better late than never, but they wouldn't know that either, would they
-
Could be! ;D
You'll notice I did write Cheeta, NOT Chita!! ::) :o :o :o
-
Understood....but it's page after page of reaction but no idea what you're reacting to.
I'll go away.
I think most of us have tried to mention the categories before giving reactions. It's all we can do.
-
LOL...I'd say better late than never, but they wouldn't know that either, would they
"Better late" as in "late husband?" :D
-
No spoiler....but I didn't realize that both Tony Franciosa and his one time wife Shelley Winters had BOTH passed away this (Tony) year.
Story was Lauren Bacall gave Shelley a ring and told her Tony was late for a date with her....where the hell was he? Shelley said...you've got a date with my husband and you're asking me where he is? Lauren's response: If he doesn't respect your marriage, why should I?
-
Understood....but it's page after page of reaction but no idea what you're reacting to.
I'll go away.
<Has he gone away???>
-
Love Marcia's dress.
-
Best Play
-
Who's the Ape Woman sitting beside Kathleen Marshall?
I thought it might be the ever lovely Susan Shulman, but she was smiling, so I'm not certain!
-
Best Play - no surprise.
-
No surprise there
-
Best Play...good choice from what I hear here at HHW

-
But JRand....we've all been profoundly effected....or is affected? Isn't everyone always profoundly effected by things related to Oprah's projects?

I do like the title song from the show that they're doing some of.

Even the costumes are ugly....on purpose, I know....but whew!
-
Oh good, let's see if BoreDetector is on the list!
;D ;D
There would be NO tribute for him!!
-
If you mean it makes me want to turn off the TV...then yes. :P
LOL, she said she had letters from so many people who had been profoundly effected.....she says that about a lot of things....and yes, I guess that would count, wouldn't it 8)
-
What are Patti's boobs doing UP on her shoulders?
-
Looks like she has something in her left eye
:o :o :o ;D
-
It least it wasn't directed by that other guy or Seely would be playing the tuba....guess that'll happen in the revival....with Star Jones in Oprah's part.
-
I guess JRand isn't going to run out and get a ticket for THE COLOR PURPLE
-
I guess JRand isn't going to run out and get a ticket for THE COLOR PURPLE
What was your first clue? :P
-
Only three categiories left, right? Best Actor and Actres in musicals and Best Musical.
-
Quincy Jones' music for the movie version was so perfect IMO....any OTHER music or songs....well....are interlopers.
-
Only three categiories left, right? Best Actor and Actres in musicals and Best Musical.
Sounds right....
-
I really haven't been bored by the show even with less than great musical excerpts.
-
I think it's fun to do it this way - then we on the West Coast can chime in while those on the East Coast stay up to see what we think - and they WILL stay up or they will be bitch-slapped from here to eternity and hell and back.
-
Then we get to read the West Coast play by play and try to remember what they are talking about
-
What are Patti's boobs doing UP on her shoulders?
You mean.... they moved since the start of the ceremony!
That's for the boobi Prize I guess! :)
-
Guess I'll ready myself - just fifteen more minutes.
-
Pretty dress on Glenn...and Harry's got a bald head
-
Glenn Close looks good.
-
I guess JRand isn't going to run out and get a ticket for THE COLOR PURPLE
Not A ticket! TONS of them!
Please Jrand tell us how much you love Oprah and Color Purple????
-
Best Musical Actor no surprise.
-
Quincy Jones' music for the movie version was so perfect IMO....any OTHER music or songs....well....are interlopers.
Did you they that Patti's boobs are interlopers??! ;)
-
WOW!!! Who would have thought!!!!
-
Hmmm Best Actor in a musical was a surprise for me
-
Glenn Close looks good.
Very!! 8)
-
WOW!!! Who would have thought!!!!
About Patty's boobs or the winner of Best Lead Actor in a Musical
-
Hmmm Best Actor in a musical was a surprise for me
Me, too!!
Speech going on a bit........................ ;D
-
About Patty's boobs or the winner of Best Lead Actor in a Musical
An emphasis on the latter.
-
I think it's fun to do it this way - then we on the West Coast can chime in while those on the East Coast stay up to see what we think - and they WILL stay up or they will be bitch-slapped from here to eternity and hell and back.
Why, there's enough violence is this world, no?!
At least, no one spoils anyone's anticipation!
-
Well we waited a long time for the MOST embarrassing moment...and it finally arrived....
-
Ten more minutes.
-
OMG....not HER!!!
-
Is Bernadette's dress see through?
-
Pretty dress on Glenn...and Harry's got a bald head
Yes, and Glenn "almost hit it!!" ;)
-
Of course....of course.....
-
Best Actress in Musical was A TOTAL surprise...bet you loved that one JRand
-
I am absolutely thrilled with the Best Actress winner.
See my picks from yesterday.
-
Is Bernadette's dress see through?
I wouldn't be looking....
Ten cents says she thanks the Lord!
-
Should I or should I not have more tuna pasta salad. Do you know what the most amusing thing about it is? The entire bag of 16oz. of pasta is only a little over 1600 calories. Plus the mayo and the tuna and the whole kit and caboodle is around 2200 calories. Well, one could eat the whole thing over the course of the day and still not gain weight. If I have one more helping I'll probably have had half of what I made - so 1200 calories - not bad.
-
Is Bernadette's dress see through?
There's nothing to "see through" anyway!! :o ;D
-
We finally got rid of BoreDetector on the home page (Latest Registered Guest) - he's been replaced by the young lady I mentioned in today's notes.
-
No...didn't thank God... you owe us all a dime
-
Julie is presenting Best Musical.
-
Eat, MR BK. And yes thank goodness BD is GONE from the page.
-
No...didn't thank God... you owe us all a dime
See above.
-
Oh you had to give one away didn't you....LOL.....
-
They'll be cutting the time close. 7 minutes until 11.
-
Wonder what kind of reception Dame Julie will receive?
-
Oh you had to give one away didn't you....LOL.....
deleted my spoiler
-
Fingers crossed for MY CHOICE!!!
-
Julie is presenting Best Musical.
My Fair Lady's gonna win then!! Duh!! ;)
-
Wonder what kind of reception Dame Julie will receive?
I'm thinking it'll be a BIG hand. But the Best Musical Winner will get a screaming ovation, and you KNOW which choice I mean.
-
I am absolutely thrilled with the Best Actress winner.
See my picks from yesterday.
You must have connections because you're practically right on all levels!!
-
JHC - Julie's wearing the bedroom drapes.
-
Just five minutes for this coast.
-
Nice applause for Dame Julie.
-
Julie looks very good.
-
JHC - Julie's wearing the bedroom drapes.
You have red drapes in your bedroom?
-
HOW?
-
[ahem]
I am taking my bow!
-
Well not my pick, but not a real surprise
-
You have red drapes in your bedroom?
Not anymore! ;D
-
Say it ain't so, Joe....that BOOK must be a killer!
-
You have red drapes in your bedroom?
Oh no! Not the curtains Miss Scarlett :D
Yes, but LOOK who's wearing them?! :D
-
Not anymore! ;D
LOL,. that's right Julie is wearing them
-
My curiousity is piqued, that I will tell you. All right, time to settle down to the show. I shall return at the first commercial and we can dispense with the spoilers.
-
Nice speech!
-
Take it away, Hollywood!
-
I think the show played just fine with no host.
-
Didn't see DR Jose....is that a spoiler?
-
Damn I thought maybe Julie would rip open her blouse like she did in SOB! Now THAT would have been a Tony moment.
-
Not bad the Central and East got us to 17 pages before the West Coast even started
-
Well.... I'm sorry for Judy!
Dare to click here!! SPOILERS!!!
http://www.playbill.com/news/article/100236.html
-
I think I'd still rather have the one hour on PBS and then two hours on CBS. The years they did that were my favorites.
-
Switching to Elvis and Nancy in SPEEDWAY
-
Not bad the Central and East got us to 17 pages before the West Coast even started
Tony-worthy effort, to be sure. 8)
-
Damn I thought maybe Julie would rip open her blouse like she did in SOB! Now THAT would have been a Tony moment.
You're "sick" DR Jrand! :D ;)
-
I think I'd still rather have the one hour on PBS and then two hours on CBS. The years they did that were my favorites.
Something to be said for THAT arrangement to be sure! 8)
Off to work on THE problem. :-X
-
You're "sick" DR Jrand! :D ;)
It's part of my charm. 8)
-
During Harry's "There's No Business Like Show Business" and they brought up the 60 Tony winners, Patti was rocking out to the music. ;D
-
Switching to Elvis and Nancy in SPEEDWAY
I'll draw the "bedroom curtains" then!! ;)
-
It's part of my charm. 8)
That's what Oprah would say if she knew you! :D
-
During Harry's "There's No Business Like Show Business" and they brought up the 60 Tony winners, Patti was rocking out to the music. ;D
Rocking? You mean.... "rolling"!! :o
-
Okay, move this show back to a normal B'way house and KEEP THE TEENAGERS OUT OF THE AUDIENCE. I HATE these cheering sections - nauseating. Other than that, I'm sure the two supporting actors were deserving of their awards. I could've lived without Mr. Connick's pointless number and the "60 STARS 60".
-
We've already shattered a few records, but we've got a ways to go to shatter last year's Tony postings.
-
I did have one more bit of tuna pasta salad, and now I'm done for the evening.
-
Back to the show after the already-endless barrage of commercials.
-
500 posts before 8:30 pm....is that a record?
-
500 posts before 8:30 pm....is that a record?
Looks more like a cd to me!! ???
-
Back to the show after the already-endless barrage of commercials.
Thank G*d we don't get that in the Old Europe! :P
-
Wow. We're over an hour into the show, and I'm still awake.
If I were going to New York, there's only one show I've seen so far I'd even be interested in attending.
-
Cillaliz, you sound like me about that bathroom and the wallpaper.
-
Weird, but I didn't think I Don't Want To Show Off came off as well as when the show was here - don't know why, really.
-
They just did "I Don't Want to Show Off" from The Drowsy Chaperone. Pretty darned funny!
-
I am late for the Tony partay!!!
And I will have to leave early to cause it is close to bedtime already...and is anyone elses broadcast of the Tonys sort of blurry? All other channels seem to be fine, just not this one!
-
Kathleen Marshall wins the Tony for remembering every name she ever learned anywhere.
-
I've never seen it live, so I don't have anything to compare it to.
-
So many commercials.
-
I am late for the Tony partay!!!
And I will have to leave early to cause it is close to bedtime already...and is anyone elses broadcast of the Tonys sort of blurry? All other channels seem to be fine, just not this one!
Better late than never! The broadcast quality is fine for me.
-
And that shot of the smug producer of Drowsy Chaperone made me want to puke. However, that was compensated by the fact that my darling Lynnette Perry, his wife, was sitting next to him looking as beautiful as ever.
-
They also showed the Visa promo for A Chorus Line and the commercial for Mary Poppins.
-
I feel that with three hours to go we will indeed best last year's Tony partay.
-
And the commercials are STILL going on - five minutes now.
-
Cillaliz, you sound like me about that bathroom and the wallpaper.
Great minds think alike ;)
-
The Seattle station is showing a commercial for Intiman and plugging Bartlett Sher's Tony nomination.
Paul Rudd is on right now! What a rube. :P A cute rube, but a rube.
-
We just saw the Thripany Opera. I think that's what he said. It was odd.
-
Kathleen Marshall has two Tonys and her more talented brother Rob has none. Something's wrong somewhere.
-
There was nothing wrong with the broadcast of the TOnys on the East Coast, either, DR MBarnum.
-
Neal Patrick Hatrris isn't blond any more. Very nice to look at. ;)
-
Kathleen Marshall has two Tonys and her more talented brother Rob has none. Something's wrong somewhere.
Very sexist to me!
And she should get a new hairdresser!!
-
Well, I'm heading for bed now. after I get the laptop back in its usual place.
Enjoy the Tonys, West Coasters, and I'll be back to read your comments tomorrow morning
Good night!
-
Heading to bed??? WUSSBURGER!
So, Chaperone has won book and score - not surprising, given there were only three nominees in each category, which says more about the B'way musical than anything. I was happy to see The Wedding Singer boys up - they're on my B'way Bound album and I believe they're the first of those new writers to be up for a Tony or even have a show on B'way.
-
And, DR Sandra asked "Is she wearing a tierra?"
-
I see a lot of people but the postings have come to a standstill. Not fair to those of us on the West Coast.
-
Neal Patrick Hatrris isn't blond any more. Very nice to look at. ;)
That's what you call "very nice"?? :D

Must be over where they are.
-
Don't like Julia's hair or dress
And we both felt that she walked funny.
-
And we both felt that she walked funny.
;D
-
Alfre Woodard has a road construction orange dress on
And her headlights were on.
-
I see a lot of people but the postings have come to a standstill. Not fair to those of us on the West Coast.
So.... why can't the West Coasters post NOW????
-
The number from "The Drowsy Chaperone" was quite a bit of fun. Is that indicative of the quality of the rest of the show?
I enjoyed the number from "Sweeny Todd" but I'm quite over earth mother Patti Lupone. The overall effect of the "new" show is a letdown for me. I'm a fan of the original orchestrations and lush orchestral performance...as important to this tragic piece, IMO, as the quality of the vocal delivery of the trenchant lyrics.
-
Now this is worth staying up for! Go TPunk
-
Joe Pesci is with the REAL "Jersey Boys." That's pretty cool!
-
So, Chaperone has won book and score - not surprising, given there were only three nominees in each category, which says more about the B'way musical than anything. I wish people would stop "dedicating" awards they've just received.
You can't "dedicate", IMO, anything you -- yourself -- have not created.
You can dedicate a statue, a painting, a play, a book, a song, a performance, a game you're about to play....anything YOU can create yourself.
But winners of Oscars and Tonys do not create their awards and, thus, are terribly misguided in their "dedicatory" sentiments.
Again...IMO.
-
I have always liked Bill Irwin.
-
That's what you call "very nice"?? :D

How about this picture? It's a little better:
-
I just finished catching up on the posts from the east coast broadcast and they gave me quite a chuckle- especially since so many of them matched my own thoughts at the time.
Did anyone notice a mishap in Howard McGillan's singing of Music of the Night- like maybe he forgot the words, or was starting to sing a different verse, and somehow lost his place- West Coasters, please let me know if you notice this or maybe it's just a leftover effect from today's earlier wine tastings.
-
Ok West coasters....we had a running commentary of sorts...what about you? What do you think?
-
We also felt that some of tonight's more heartfelt speeches seemed a bit, I don't know, rehearsed. Kind of like Reese Witherspoon's Oscar acceptance speech... or it could be that I am way too jaded, but possibly it's a little of both.
-
Rodzinski has tomorrow off from work, and I don't have to go in to work until 2, so we are being night owls.
-
We also felt that some of tonight's more heartfelt speeches seemed a bit, I don't know, rehearsed. Kind of like Reese Witherspoon's Oscar acceptance speech... or it could be that I am way too jaded, but possibly it's a little of both.
I thought the same thing. I really didn't listen to much of what they had to say if they looked too prepared
-
I spoke too soon- Rodzinski is off to bed!
-
I'm doing a running commentary.
Jersey Boys - I'm sure it's a wonderful show, but it just looked like a big rock concert to me.
Sweeney Todd: Underwhelmed - again, it may work in the theatre - but when the chorus burst into "Swing your razor high" there was no power and I don't like that tiny orchestration.
-
More commercials.
-
Personally, I liked the winner who thanked the people who work backstage.
-
The first time I went to the Tony's Rosie O'Donnell was the host, and she told the funniest and most off-color jokes during the commercials. It was great, and really kept the evening moving along cause that is a long time to sit without using the bathroom.
-
We also felt that some of tonight's more heartfelt speeches seemed a bit, I don't know, rehearsed. Kind of like Reese Witherspoon's Oscar acceptance speech... or it could be that I am way too jaded, but possibly it's a little of both.
I felt this especially about the Best Actor in a Musical winner. It struck me as very fake-o.
-
Without a host I wonder what they are doing during commercials
-
Audra McDonald's white dress is wonderful...in my humble opinion. :)
-
I felt this especially about the Best Actor in a Musical winner. It struck me as very fake-o.
"Crap! I was going to that speech, now everyone is going to think I'm copying!"
I know, I know, I am a really horrible person.
-
It was cool seeing one of my former bosses on stage tonight- she wrote me a letter of recommendation when I applied to grad school years ago.
-
Hal Holbrook was funny!
-
Wow, just caught up on the posts. We had a seating issue in our living room and one of our guests plunked herself down in the chair by the computer and I couldn't get there to post.
-
I was surprised to learn that they started giving out statues in 1967...didn't someone here have Alexis Smith's Tony for "Follies" and wasn't it a medallion rather than a statue?
-
I think there was a cut made in the music that Howard McGillin was supposed to sing and he started to do it the way it was in the show rather than the cut version, possibly??? He recovered pretty well, I thought.
-
I think there was a cut made in the music that Howard McGillin was supposed to sing and he started to do it the way it was in the show rather than the cut version, possibly??? He recovered pretty well, I thought.
Yeah, that was my guess. He just stopped midway and then found his place again.
-
I really loved the number from "The Wedding Singer."
That lead singer/guitarist looks familiar to me. Does anyone know anything about him? Has he done any standup comedy using his guitar and singing his act?
-
I think JERSEY BOYS is a phenomenal show, but I don't think the selections from it really represent the show that's playing at the August Wilson Theater, which (if you ask me, but nobody asked) shoulda been a Pulitzer contender, compared to the other plays that were Pulitzer-nominated.
-
I thought The Wedding Singer was loud and flashy and "now" in the way that I hate.
-
More commercials.
-
Well, at least we'll get to see Julia Roberts and find out what all the cattiness was about.
-
I did think Kristin Bell looked adorable. I worked with her right after Tom Sawyer, on the Sherman Brothers album and found her very sweet. But someone I know doesn't like her at all and never has a nice thing to say about her. However, given the events of the last few weeks, I'm just beginning to wonder if that doesn't have more to do with the person and not Kristin.
-

I don't know about using his guitar in his act, but he is a stand up comedian. A friend of mine brought a group of his high school students to see the show and was surprised to find out that they were all Stephen Lynch fans from his acting/comedy.
-
Gee, only eight hundred more posts until I reach a major new plateau. Maybe I can do it tonight.
-
Well, at least we'll get to see Julia Roberts and find out what all the cattiness was about.
Just watch her awkward walk to the podium.
-
Well I thought that I might be able to stay up until the west coast broadcast is done, but I think it's time to hit the hay. I look forward to reading everyone's commentary tomorrow morning.
Good night all!
-
T.R. Knight's hair is blue! I don't think it's the lighting.
And best featured actress in a musical...Beth Leavel. She's funny! ;D
-
I wish people would stop "dedicating" awards they've just received.

Hmmmm... to dedicate can also mean
to inscribe or address by way of compliment, so...
Even here (that shows you!! ;) actors "dédient" their awards to someone!
-
How about this picture? It's a little better:
Frankly, I don't see the difference!! 8) ;D ;D
-
George said:
T.R. Knight's hair is blue
And I will second that. Yes, it is blue. I saw him on our local NY1 pre-show. It's blue and it's really unattractive on him.
Technically the title of the song is Show Off, not I Don't Wanna Show Off and it does not play as well on the small screen as it does in the theatre. In the Marquis Theatre, even in the mezzanine it's a great number but on television it just sat there.
-
And I'm going to bed because it's 12:34am according to my clock and I have to work tomorrow.
-
And I won't be surprised when I wake up tomorrow and log in to over 20 pages :-)
-
Twice they've announced, pre-commerical break, that Julia Roberts was coming up next. And twice she hasn't been been up...or re-announced.
-
So...what's the "concept" for The Threepenny Opera?? Cyndi Lauper (what is she wearing??) kisses a woman and Alan Cumming kisses a man (which I don't mind at all), but are they in an asylum like Sweeney Todd?
-
Didn't like the staging of Threepenny, but liked Miss Lauper. Very happy for Beth Leavel - when I ran into her at the theater when I was there making details to record the overture, I told her I thought she was terrific and that she'd get nominated.

I don't know about using his guitar in his act, but he is a stand up comedian. A friend of mine brought a group of his high school students to see the show and was surprised to find out that they were all Stephen Lynch fans from his acting/comedy.
That's HIM...he has an astounding comedy act that he totally sings accompanying himself on guitar. It's in the form of telling a story to kids....with "bad" parts....it's totally hysterical, IMO.
-
It's now official - this is our third highest posting day!
-
I thought the same thing. I really didn't listen to much of what they had to say if they looked too prepared
Actors are by essence "parrots" and they'd better prepare their speech; when they don't they tend to make fools of themselves!
That way, they're less tempted to go on and on!
Sophie Marceau (Who?!) once ridiculed herself at a Cannes Film Festival!
-
I smell another hour or so of posts on the Tonys alone.
-
The first time I went to the Tony's Rosie O'Donnell was the host, and she told the funniest and most off-color jokes during the commercials. It was great, and really kept the evening moving along cause that is a long time to sit without using the bathroom.
Nothing like "bathroom jokes" to avoid going to the bathroom itself! :D
-
I don't know if it's cold anywhere else in California...but I've closed my balcony door and my windows...and I have a fire going in my fireplace.
It's cozy...but it's also JUNE!

I thought it was great.

It's a cozy 92F at 9:45 p.m. here, DR Ron!
-
John Tartaglia and Cristine Ebersole were hilarious! "...a Republican puppet..." Hysterical!! ;D
-
Here's Howard!
-
Oops! :-\ Good recovery, though.
-
But why do the song if they're not going to do the song? There is just no life in this Tony broadcast.
-
It's a cozy 92F at 9:45 p.m. here, DR Ron!
Oohhhh. Wish I could share some of this chilling fog with you.
-
The supporting actor from Jersey Boys seemed very emotional and then not.
-
The number from "Phantom" was a total misfire, IMO.
McGillin obviously sang the "...touch..." by accident. And where was the orchestra on that last note he sang...it should have snuck up under him and ended the song. It just lay there....like so much years-old fish.
-
Patricia Neal!
-
Richard Griffiths, best actor in a play had a good speech...and he was the first so far (only?) person to be played off with music.
Janis Paige looks good.
-
I'd read that The Pajama Game is a limited run, and that they want to bring it back next season...but probably without Harry. I wonder if Michael Cavanaugh, who played piano for Movin' Out could play the role. He certainly can play the piano.
-
I thought Cynthia Nixon's speech was a bit much...and she was telling the audience what the award was for...like we didn't know she was in a play and that this was the Tony awards!
And who was that she kissed before getting out of her seat? Couldn't tell if it was a he or a she.
-
I enjoyed the numbers from "The Pajama Game."
-
I know he's a more of a rock-n-roll singer, but maybe he can adjust. Just a thought.
-
For the first time in several years, I stayed awake for the whole show.
-

It was a she. Cynthia is now a lesbian. ::)
-
Also, I thought Julia Roberts handled herself with great poise and charm.
The dress.....should have stayed in Hollywood for the next movie award walk down a red carpet....but....different strokes.
-
It was a she. Cynthia is now a lesbian. ::)
That clears up the gender question I had, then. Thanks, George.

Another singer who might be very good in the role: Elliott Yamin.

According to her IMDb.com listing (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0633223/), here's a quote:
"My private life is private. But at the same time, I have nothing to hide. So what I will say is that I am very happy." [on being asked by The New York Daily News about her relationship with Christine Marinoni in September 2004]
-
Terrible Julia Roberts dress. Blechhh. Unlike Ron, I loathed the Pajama Game numbers - I can't stand Mr. Connick and his Sinatraisms, and the choreography was awful.
-
Nice death tribute - short and sweet - didn't know the lovely Geraldine Fitzgerald had passed - I really liked her. And I adored Michael Gibson.
-
More commercials.
-
A delightful surprise that "The Pajama Game" was awarded Best Revival-Musical. I know it updated the show a bit, especially to accommodate Connick's style, which I find much more to my liking than anything Sinatra ever did.
Its winning may have been a signal that "Sweeney" went too far.
I find it unfathomable that it was rewarded for best orchestrations. All I've heard has been a serious misstep downward from the brilliant originals.
-
I was a bit shocked by the orchestration award after what I heard of it. Our pal Steve Orich was up - my guess is that he probably thought he'd win.
-
Another half-hour to go, twenty minutes of which will be commercials.
-
As TPunk mentioned, Alfre showed up with her headlights on.
But she forgot to mention Alfre was running her fog lights, as well.
-
Nice death tribute - short and sweet - didn't know the lovely Geraldine Fitzgerald had passed - I really liked her. And I adored Michael Gibson.
No one clapped until the end...probably because the pictures were going so fast that there wasn't time. I wish people always held the applause until it was all over, rather than try and applaud for each person.
-
Best play..."The History Boys."
-
I cannot watch The Color Purple excerpt - all that screaming and scatting - too annoying.
-
Wow, I can't believe I'm still here. You must be getting down to the last few at this point
-
Those two songs ("Hell No!" and the title song) are the only songs that I've seen on TV. They are getting a litte old. ::)
-
I found the songs from THE COLOR PURPLE a little irritating
-
Best actor in a musical is John Lloyd Young for Jersey Boys.
-
Best actress in a musical is LaChanze. ;D
-
I'm so "out of it". I've only heard one of the Cast albums and I don't care for that much (Sweeney Todd). I may get to see the Awards at a later date!
-
So happy for La Chanze. I'm only just realizing how many people I've worked with who were up for awards tonight. Loved working with La Chanze (twice, I think).
-
Best musical: Jersey Boys.
-
It's over. Three hours, but sans commercials, probably closer to two.
-
And what a partay we had! And we've still got another hour. We'll stay all night and we'll sing 'em all.
-
Night, Time for this cowgirl to get some sleep. Great partay, BK
-
Well, how can we help but sing...another Tony show is over...and many surprises, delights, disappoints abound.
It's time for a big muse-ee-cal number, donchathink!
-
Night, Time for this cowgirl to get some sleep. Great partay, BK
But...but...you're on free time right now ...vacation ...sabbatical ... you can stay up and dance all night ...right?
-
We're only on page 22.
I thought this would be a 30-plus page night fer shur.
-
Of course, I can't stay up all night, either.
I have work tomorrow.
But I still have to post until my numbers reach a milestone of "interest".
-
Only 7 more posts till I'm double soixante-neuf! It's the only time in my life THAT will have happened
-
I thought tonight's show was much better than ones in previous years.
Perhaps it had to do with the quality...and variety...of really good nominees?
-
I can't help thinking "The Color Purple" should have been presented as a dramatic play.
Taking a story like that -- with all its power and popularity -- and setting it to music that, IMO, really doesn't match that power is kind of a letdown.
Of course, seeing it live might be a different experience.
-
I loved all those brief snippets from past Tony performances...especially that last few notes of Jennifer Holliday's "And I am Telling You"....would LOVE to see the whole performance again, I would
-
Janis Paige looked great, didn't she!
-
So this is what it's come to.
A private frenzy? And with only one post to go before I must log off.
Sigh.
Oh, well. Tis a far, far better thing I do...than I have previously done today.
-
Good night...good night....
Parting is such sweet sorrow....
...that I shall simply leave....
...and join you all tomorrow.
-
I reckon we had more posts here than anywhere else on all the Internet.
-
Good night, Ron. :)
-
Good Morning!
Back from the Tonys and a post-Tony supper...
WOW! 22 pages of posts (so far)! Guess I have some catching up to do. So... I guess that's what I'll be doing. However...
I had a wonderful time. :)
-
Very happy for you DR Jose.

Great news! Did you take any pictures??
-
Yes, we must have a full report from dear reader Jose.
-
Just checking in, so haven't read all your pithy comments yet. Here are a couple of mine...
Whatever possessed the producers to open the show with Harry "Mr. Mild" Connick, Jr? Instead of a BRIGHT beginning, we get an astounding BLAH. Not a good indicator of what's to come. Overall, I'd say, the show seemed subdued with not much spontaneity or real excitement.
Best musical number - The Wedding Singer. Runners up - The Drowsy Chaperone and The Jersey Boys.
Best choreography of a musical number - The Wedding Singer.
Isn't Sutton Foster adorable?
The Hal Prince Tribute was disappointing. His speech was short and sweet but failed to connect probably because he was in Las Vegas and not actually on set. I'd love to have seen and heard him live in the theatre dispensing some of his wisdom from all those years in the theatre. A missed opportunity.
They should have let Richard Griffiths continue speaking because his was one of the very few acceptance speeches worth listening to.
The plays get such short shrift. Why even bother showing a one line sentence spoken from the nominated plays? It's depressing. I know they have time constraints but they could've gained time by dropping the silly bits from the presenters which are never funny. They could've also made some of the musical numbers shorter (Threepenny went on too long). I still remember from a long ago Tony Awards show a whole scene from Lettice & Lovage that was so wonderful I went out the next day and bought the play.
The Tonys never used to be like all the other awards shows. IMHO what it needs to distinguish itself from the others is for the producers to think locally, not globally. I've said this before...when Alexander Cohen and Hildy Parks produced and wrote the show, it was always exciting and memorable. Nevertheless, I l loved watching the show and will till I die.
Congratulations to all the winners and all the losers. You are in a noble profession and work hard...and with passion. No mean feat.
