Fellow DR Oregonians. I received the following from the Humane Society & plan to call Peter Buckley, my state Representative today:
Just last week, HSUS participated in a raid of a puppy mill facility near Burns, Oregon, where over 200 dogs were found in horrific conditions. Puppy mills are breeding facilities that mass-produce puppies for sale in pet stores, over the Internet, and directly to the public. Dogs are treated like cash crops, constantly bred and kept in continuous confinement and horrible conditions.
This raid highlights the need for legislation in Oregon to crack down on the worst abuses at large-scale puppy mills. Fortunately, the Oregon state legislature is considering the Oregon Puppy Protection Act (H.B. 2470) -- and a House committee will hold a hearing on H.B. 2470 on Monday, March 30!
Those who support puppy mills are working around the clock to protect this industry, and they will be at the hearing in full force. It is critical that your state representative hear from constituents who support this legislation.
TAKE ACTION
When you call, you will likely speak to a staff member who will pass your message along to your legislator. Remember to be polite and professional, and leave your name and address so it is clear that you are a constituent. You can say:
"Hello, my name is [your name] and I am calling from [your town] to thank Representative Buckley for sponsoring H.B. 2470, legislation to crack down on puppy mills. As a constituent, I am very concerned about large scale breeding and the inhumane treatment of dogs in puppy mills. Thank you."
Thank you for all you do for animals.
Sincerely,
Mike Markarian
Executive President
