John Fogerty sang "Hearts of Stone" on his wonderful "Blue Ridge Rangers" album.

There is a wonderful garden south of Atlanta that was created during the Chataqua era by one of its stars, Hetty Jane Dunaway. Walt and Roy Disney used to go there in the summers and hang out. I've wondered why they did. Maybe the new museum will offer some answers!

An amazingly persistent woman discovered these gardens decades after they had fallen into ruin and had grown over with kudzu and ivy. She restored them to their former glory. I have such admiration for what she's done! (We did a gardening show on her a few years back)

Voldemort is basically a middle school girl: he has a locket, a diary, a tiara, a ring, and is completely obsessed with a teenage boy.

Thank you for the info! I did not know that about the Disney brothers and, after a Google search, I came up that elusive detail too...

"Welcome to Dunaway Gardens of Newnan, Georgia. These Gardens have too long been a hidden treasure, located only 30 minutes south of Atlanta, 6 miles north of Newnan, and minutes from the quaint historical town of Roscoe. This once magnificent garden was allowed to fall into a dilapidated state for many decades. Its beauty being choked by a tangle of vines and the passage of time. Dunaway Gardens was a theatrical training ground for producers, directors and performers of the arts during the golden years of the 20's, 30's and 40's. Hetty Jane Dunaway was a talented vivacious actress from Arkansas, who rose to fame as one of the most popular on the Chautauqua Circuit. She was the creator of the theatrical training center and floral rock gardens that bear her name, Dunaway Gardens. These Gardens have played host to Ballet Troupes, indoor and outdoor theater, as well as Walt and Roy Disney and Minnie Pearl. Until recently, these Gardens have not been open or in bloom for nearly half a century. Welcome back, Dunaway Gardens!"

More on the subject!

In the summer of 2000 when Jennifer Bigham and her husband Roger drove by the kudzu-enveloped ruins of Dunaway Gardens, she instantly knew that this once thriving training center for the performing arts was her destiny. Conceived and built by Hetty Jane Dunaway, an actress on the Chatauqua traveling circuit in the early years of the 20th century, the gardens had their official opening in 1934 after 18 years under construction.

Located about 50 miles southwest of Atlanta, the 25 acres of hillside gardens consisted of rock terraces (the rock came from local farms), a grass amphitheatre and stage, a honeymoon lodge, tea room, natural swimming pool, and a Japanese garden and several smaller spring-fed pools. Various troupes of dancers, lecturers, singers and actors from all over the U.S. came to train and give performances. Walt Disney was a visitor, and Minnie Pearl was the head instructor of the drama school.

Hetty Jane Dunaway died in 1961, and the terraced gardens went into decline. By the time Jennifer saw the property in 2000, kudzu and English ivy smothered most of the acreage, the buildings had disappeared, and much of the rock work had crumbled.

If it has canals it has to be Death In Venice!

It was one for Mahler.
