Well, you've read the notes, the notes found their way back, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently crossing the Himalayas and coming home.
-
And the word of the day is: DANDLE!
-
A Very Happy Birthday to DR FJL!! ;D
-
Well, Cannibal! The Musical! is over and done with. We had a great audience for our last show yesterday (several of my co-workers were there but they didn't stick around afterward) and overall, it was a great run.
-
We spent about a half hour after the show taking pictures. However, after the pictures, we were all supposed to help with strike, but a lot of people left before it was all done, and only a few (about eight) stayed the whole time. We put what was left into storage and were done by about 9:30 pm (the show ended at about 5:00). A few of us who were left, went to our director's house for pizza...very good pizza. :)
-
I have a lot of posts to get through, a lot of TV shows to watch, a lot of laundry to do and a lot of sleep to sleep.
-
And now, I have the time to do it all, again.
-
Happy Day to FJL!!!
-
Thanks so much, George!
Also thanks to Ben!
And of course to BK!
-
BK - There are probably two or three people to record on May 11. If you wanted to see a show that afternoon, Skip can schedule the recording around your schedule, since the recording studio is only three to ten blocks from almost all Broadway theaters.
-
Got nice reaction to the parody song about the Royal Kiss, but several folks said it needed to have a "girl group" sing it, so we didd it up with the royal treatment :)

Good morning, all! More weird dreams, none of which I can remember beyond a house with haunted rooms and the use of a threaded needle. Otherwise, I slept well.
This morning, I have a trip to Staples to photocopy a couple of Christmas spmgs from the Appalachians. "I Wish I Was Single Again" is not a Christmas song, but not every song in this piece we're working on is a number pertaining to Christmas or New Year's. I'm still looking for a moving song about death in the coal mines and a few comic ones about moonshine.
Here's the women's version, and there's also a men's version collected by Alan Lomax that will hopefully go in counterpoint to this:
When I was single, went dressed so fine
Now I am married, go ragged all the time
I wish I was a single girl again, O Lord
Don't I wish I was a single girl again!
When I was single, my shoes did squeak
Now I am married, my shoes they do leak
I wish . . .
When I was single, ate biscuit and pie
Now I am married it's cornbread or die
I wish . . .
Cows needin' milkin' and supper to get
Them blame little children is all cryin' yet
I wish . . .
Three little babies crying for bread
With none to give them, I'd rather be dead
I wish . . .
-
Thanks, Dan the Man!
-
Congrats to George on his successful run!
-
Osama is dead! I'd only be happier if the same news arrived about Lady Macbeth.
This is a long day: I need to stop by Toyland and check out the office before I head to the NYU Dental Clinic at 2pm. God knows how long I'll be there.
DR Jose, yes, in 1998 I was the subject of an article in OPERA NEWS about the restoration of the 1938 BOYS FROM SYRACUSE. There were complications on the project: one of the music staff at R&H, who never backed up his computer, lost the entire vocal score he had created under my direction, so Rodgers & Hammerstein cannot make the show available except on special occasions. The band parts are the originals, cleaned up and in some cases recopied by me, but there is no vocal score.

TOD:
A few years ago there was a little film called AWAY WE GO directed by Sam Mendes that I thought was absolutely wonderful in every way, but was pretty much dismissed by the critics and ignored by audiences. Maya Rudolph, who I think was one of the best SNL cast members ever, gave what I think was the best female performance of that year. And yet, she was not nominated for any major award.

I was expecting a night of bad dreams when I went to sleep last night, but instead I had an oddly pleasant one. It was more of a memory dream--something I actually remember happening: it was back in the 70's and my sister and I were watching an ABC Movie of the Week about a beauty pageant. One of the contestants in the movie had a hidden agenda--she was a "woman's libber" who planned on disrupting the nationally televised pageant with a speech that condemned the sexism of the ceremony. Well, of course, she wound up being crowned the winner and instead of delivering her speech found herself being swept up in the moment and wholeheartedly accepted her new role. My sister was furious at this and went into her own diatribe about how implausible it all was. And in my dream, just as I did back then, I sat back smiled and took a certain delight in how a simple TV movie could have such an effect on a person. Not a very dramatic dream but a very satisfying one.
-
Last night I finished watching DOWNTON ABBEY, which I really enjoyed. I cannot believe we have a wait for the second season, which hasn't yet been broadcast in England. I've started watching the last BBC version of JANE EYRE with Toby Stephenson, Maggie Smith's son, as Rochester.
-
Move on, as Stephen Sondheim said.

Downton Abbey Dance
-
DR FJL, we need a Downtown Downton Abbey parody.
-
Happy Birthday, FJL! I would sing you a parody of Happy Birthday, but the Hill Sisters would probably sue!
-
Monday morning greetings, and thank you, HHW, for being my "breaking news" source with the news about the death of ObL. I went to bed very early last night and, for some reason looked at last night's posts as soon as I got up about 8 this morning. Wonderful news, indeed.

Happiest of birthdays to DR FJL!
-
Happy Birthday, FJL. My advice--*don't* write a parody of Happy Birthday, the copyright holders are evidently quite vicious. :)
-
DtM, I haven't a clew what your post/pic mean, but it is forever seared on my memory.
-
I have a 1pm appointment with the nurse practitioner at our physician's office to see what can be done for my cough and scratchy throat.
-
My eldest sister believes she has "travel karma," by which she means every time she leaves to go somewhere, something "big" happens in the news. Her trips out here from the east coast have included 9/11 and two major earthquakes/tsunamis. Guess who left for China last night? :)
-
Well, you've read the notes, the notes found their way back, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently crossing the Himalayas and coming home.

Started watching the Ernie Kovacs special on classical music last night. "I've never understood classical music, so I'm happy to be here to explain it to you tonight." :)
-
And the word of the day is: DANDLE!
And The Song Of The Day Is: BABY,BABY,BABY
-
I also watched the episode of his game show Take a Good Look which is included in the new Kovacs boxed set, and I must say, I did NOT understand the putative "clues" (which are acted out in skits) to the first guest's "secret identity." The second guest's "clues" were explained, but not the first guest's. If you get the set, watch how the first guest, a high school teacher, reads the cue card about his accomplishment along with Kovacs, it's hilarious.
-
Cilla, thanks for the TAR PM.
-
If perchance you were to drop by a certain right wing "news" organization's site, you might be surprised to see the only picture of a President on the site with regard to the bin Laden story is not our current President. Quelle surprise.

Happy Birthday to DR FJL!!!!!!!!

TOD:
Most anything by Robert Altman, especially "The Gingerbread Man" and "Cookie's Fortune."
I'll second ArnoldMBrockman's "The Stunt Man" (for a movie nominated for best picture, it still feels unjustly neglected)
I'm sure there are many more, but it's still too early for me.
-
DR FJL, we need a Downtown Downton Abbey parody.
Was that a reference to the UPTURN GIRL parody about Christie Brinkley that I put in the "New York Times comment box" when she filled the box office coffers at CHICAGO? (If I've posted this here already, let me know and I'll edit this out.)
Over $900,000 for Christie Brinkley in CHICAGO!!! In the show’s 15th year!
UPTURN GIRL
Tune of UPTOWN GIRL
Upturn Girl
Christie’s rocking our investors’ world
We’d had a lot of times our weekly nut
May have suggested it was time to shut
It scared us but -
Now our Upturn Girl
Gets the audience from ‘round the world
As long as Christie’s here to sell a seat
No way we’re going downward in defeat
That's what we’ll tweet
And soon she’ll know what
The press will opi-i-ine
And soon she’ll hear
If they cheer or they whi-i-ine
She'll know if after all
She should stay
On through fall
She’s our Upturn Girl
You know that Barry likes to be a churl
But Barry’s smiling in our fifteenth year
And praying Christie still wants to appear
When summer’s here
Dough-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh (2x)
Upturn Girl
There’s our Upturn Girl
Our grosses mean love
For our Upturn Girl
Our Upturn Girl
You know they’re in love
With our Upturn Girl

I usually scratch my head over over-rated films than under-rated ones...one such BK mentioned in his notes. A.I....What a bloated, indulgent piece of clap-trap. TITANIC is another...King of the World, my backside.

And, of course, we might get to see DR Elmore in Wooster, OH, this summer...

Greetings from Toyland! The office is intact, no breakins, no violations, so I'm happy.
Next I'm off to the Dental Clinic. Oy!
-
Speaking of DR TCB--my method of cleaning shower tile grout is to make a paste out of Comet cleanser and vinegar (I used to use RealLemon juice, but it's not as acidic as it used to be.) I use a fingernail cleaning brush to work it into the grout, but it doesn't take much elbow grease to get it to work. Great for the tile, too.

Of course, I have a Janie Sell parody and a Pam Myers parody - doesn't everyone?
OVER HER (based on OVER HERE),
Now we’re here singing and we’re dancing to that Sherman score
Huffin’ and a-wheezin’ til we can’t take no more
But all our hard work has gotten shot right to hell
‘Cause of that young siren known as Janie Sell
We give our all
And what a switch
Critics all went flacky-wacky over that b*tch
We're over her, oo-oobli-poo
We hate her guts ‘cause she's stealing our show
We're over her, oo-oobli-poo
She makes us nuts and we wish she would blow
While Miss Sell steals scenes so sweetly
We sisters are completely
Over her
Oo-oo-oobli-poo
We hate her
Can’t tell you how much we hate her
All the critics want to date her
We’re getting’ bored
Watch her win our Tony award
We’re over her, oo-oobli-poo
We thought this show’s a big comeback for us
We’re over her, oo-oobli-poo
The hatred grows as they’re makin’ a fuss
Though we’ll do our bis-tu-shein-ing
You’ll hear us both complaining
We’re over her
Oo-oo-oobli-poo!
-
And not a Pam Myers spoof per se, but one of her great roles, reacting to the recent COMPANY concert ticket situation
alternate lyric, tune of "Another Hundred People"
Another hundred donors just got off of the phone
And paid plenty of dough
While another hundred donors just got off of their butts
And their seats are so-so
As another hundred donors who love Patti LuPone
Now are starting to futz
With their cute little phone
‘Cause Colbert got their butts
Into gear today
It’s a city of patrons
Some love LuPone / and the play
A city of patrons
Some love Colbert / so they pay
And so today
We call and say:
Please find me tickets in the crowded loge or the upper tier,
If it’s Avery Fisher, no I do not mind a side aisle in the rear
It’s Colbert and Patti, we just want to be there, we don’t have to hear
We don’t need the party, ‘cause it’s too expensive so I’m saying no
Oh, I lost my job, but though it's tough all over we just have to go
Yes I know it's sounding like I like to moan
Would you take a check, my Visa’s maxed out to the bone
And I know last year I spent more and I do not like your tone
And another hundred donors just got off of the phone (5x)
-

Oh...
Good Evening!
-
DR TCB - my Playhouse 90 "Titanic" is a homegrown disc, if you like I can try to make a copy for you.
I would love that, Jrand!
-
I shall give it a shot DR TCB.
And it turns out that it's Kraft Television Theater, NOT Playhouse 90,
-
DR JMK where do we send the check?
-
Well, I must be off...even though we closed yesterday, I'm going down to the theater to help finish strike. They sent out an e-mail so hopefully, more people will show up and it'll all take a short amount of time.
Be back later!
...but before I go...

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm........I do not recognize any other name here, but savvy NYC HHW'ers may. ;D
Well, Pam Myers was in the original Company singing Another Hundred People and she also was in the first Kritzerland at the Gardenia. She's tops. Janie Sell also did a lot of B'way shows.
I think John Williams also wrote some music.

-
DR Laura did you set Wae-Ling straight regarding your age? ;D
We have been watching reruns of GOLDEN GIRLS & I am now about the same age as they were. Oh my!
that's funny Laura, from your picture I wouldn't put you a day over 6
-
We get a few, Vixmom. Mostly a little higher elevation and where it's a little greener. This was taken at the arboretum, which is greener and higher.

MBarnum, please be sure to thank Roy and Nell for that colorful birthday greeting!
-
Well...
I think the news cycle over the past 24 hours has left me a little unsettled and scattered. -Which is neither a good thing nor a bad thing. It's just a thang. And I think IT is definitely in the air here in NYC, so...
Time for me to unplug for a bit.
Goodnight.

Why were we wishing you a happy birthday on Facebook? Or was that somebody else?
-
Oh, now I see...DR Jane had wished the Vixter a happy birthday, on Vicky Mom's Facebook page. Then former DR Tomofoz wished Vicky Mom a happy birthday, evidently misreading DR Jane's post...and I followed Tom's lead.
-
Night, all.
-
Back from a fun dinner, a fun work session, and a fun visit to Farmer's Market for a soft vanilla cone. We finished all the arrangements save for a White Christmas medley, which we'll do soon. I have such shorthand with Boswell that it just goes very quickly and we have some wonderful stuff now and everything has proper beginnings and ends and routines. He'll also create some sheet music for my song.
-
Thank you, Vixmom. Glad to know you're maintaining high standards within your neighborhood.

Apparently I fell sleep last night awaiting the presidents speech and then woke up after ir was over but unaware I had been sleeping and missed it already
does that make sense?
-
Yes, it was a very short speech, I can believe that you slept through it
-
I had a Vixmom kind of day....I was at the office until 8:45 pm....over 12 hours. Actually, I thought my brief was due today. It wasn't until I was looking at how I'm supposed to deal with exhibits when filing electronically that I realized that it's not due until next monday. It's a good thing. Now it's done and I have tomorrow to review it for "tired mistakes".
-
At the moment I'm very sleepy....time to go to bed and start again in a few hours

Oh, no...Attack of the 50 Foot Woman Star Yvette Vickers Found Mummified in Home (http://xfinity.comcast.net/articles/entertainment-eonline/20110503/b239774/)! :(
Former Playboy pinup and B-movie actress Yvette Vickers died at the age of 82. But it wasn't until a year later—last Wednesday—that her mummified body was found in her Beverly Hills home.
Neighbor Susan Savage found the Attack of the 50 Foot Woman star lying on the floor of an upstairs room, after pushing open a barricaded front gate, "scaling a hillside", climbing through a broken window and pushing through stacks of "clothes, junk mail and letters" to reach her, according to the Los Angeles Times....
