Since our original Vincenzo was not available, Curtis and Tom brought in one of their friends, Jeff Edgerton.
DR Jose - In one of your posts yesterday, you mentioned that the conductor asked people who were trying to hold on to an empty seat next to them whether they had bought two seats. Did you get the impression from what the conductor was saying that if a customer had actually opted to pay for two seats in order to be comfortable in the overcrowded train, that customer would have been allowed to keep the empty seat next to him or her? Or would that have sparked a revolution from the other passengers? I know some airlines allow people to buy three seats for two people to keep the "middle" seat empty, but those are reserved seats. Wondering if it applies to trains, where it's open seating.

Happy Birthday to DRMATTH!
May you get all the roles you want this year, and may all your DVD's never skip!
Oh...a part of....LOL.
Well one night we did stop a production of Hello, Dolly! with the title number. And you REALLY have to be in shape to do the Waiter's Gallop and then sing and dance with Dolly and END that song UP! Whew! Kick line and all, crossing all over the stage, dancing with Dolly, and ending up with knee turns (and throw in a onehanded cartwheel without dropping your towel from your elbow)....whew boy was I young! LOL. But we stopped the show.
I am just going to have to LEARN THE WHOLE THING because there are some people who will NEVER learn their own lines! GRRRRRRRRRRRR
Well, you had a chance to have four fewer lines ;D

Chase looks for its employees
Chase Bank continued searching for Chase and Bank One employees in the New Orleans area Thursday.
The bank asked any employees in the affected area who have not been accounted for to call 866-475-7623. The hotline is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
And come to think of it, DRMATTH - the only production of MAME I have ever done....the title number stopped that show, too.
Whew....Jerry Herman knows just what the audience wants!
Warning - I must abandon this site to a finally arisen S Woody White.Hmmph. He keeps telling me to check messages on the phone, and then hogs the phone line for hours on end.

We were talking about Edith Head yesterday, and I remember her often appearing on Art Linkletter's House Party as well. ;D
She did some good work, but could also be a bit repetitive, particularly in her work for some of the 1960's comedies at Paramount.
And I think the following photo is a good definition of "gilding the lily." 8)
I love it, Jrand, perhaps you could use it as your new avatar?
Damn you, DR JMK.....damn you to hell!!!
And what Frances info did you get from DR GEORGE?
If they do a musical version of "The Ritz" you could bring down the house with a similar rendition ::)

It looks similar to a shot of Harlow from one of her films in which she wore a "similar" hat. Could that not have been the "inspiration"?
Well, fellow Dear Readers, the first group of 1000 refugees from Hurricane Katrina will arrive in Phoenix, Arizona, tomorrow. The will go to a Red Cross shelter here in town. I have received the call to work at the shelter.

Just about everybody could have a bone to pick with one or more items - we we should all be able to agree on the last!Sorry, I don't believe it's time to shut up, I believe it's time to speak up, but I am continuing to do that in other forums and not here.der Brucer
...I'm now able to burn at the office!!
Food call - what has everyone eaten thus far?
Dear Mr. Bush:
....
Dear Mr. Bush:
Any idea where all our helicopters are? It's Day 5 of Hurricane Katrina and thousands remain stranded in New Orleans and need to be airlifted. Where on earth could you have misplaced all our military choppers? Do you need help finding them? I once lost my car in a Sears parking lot. Man, was that a drag.
There's a nice list of links to organizations through which one can assist victims of Hurricane Katrina at:

WOW!... as we don't say here in France!
At one point Friday, the evacuation was interrupted briefly when school buses rolled up so some 700 guests and employees from the Hyatt Hotel could move to the head of the evacuation line — much to the amazement of those who had been crammed in the stinking Superdome since last Sunday.
"How does this work? They (are) clean, they are dry, they get out ahead of us?" exclaimed Howard Blue, 22, who tried to get in their line. The National Guard blocked him as other guardsmen helped the well-dressed guests with their luggage.
The 700 had been trapped in the hotel, next to the Superdome, but conditions were considerably cleaner, even without running water, than the unsanitary crush inside the dome. The Hyatt was severely damaged by the storm. Every pane of glass on the riverside wall was blown out.
Mayor Ray Nagin has used the hotel as a base since it is across the street from city hall, and there were reports the hotel was cleared with priority to make room for police, firefighters and other officials.
And some sour cream and onion rice cakes, total calories 70.
I ended up donating to the Red Cross through amazon.com. Seemed like a decent system...just hope the money goes where it's supposed to go.
There's a nice list of links...
Ah..... YEAH! FOXNEWS!! Quite reliable indeed!
Let me "laugh"!!
Thanks BK. I didn't feel like I couldn't. I'm just involved in other groups setting up more specific aid funds and we are all venting like crazy about the situation.
Actually, I have an attorney friend who is working with the musicians union in Houston to set up a fund to get aid to the musicians of New Orleans. They are working on including both union and non-union musicians, but the aid will go directly to them. I will definitely post about it here when I have the details.
Damn you, DR JMK.....damn you to hell!!! But congratulations, anyway. And what Frances info did you get from DR GEORGE?

*As far as "I'm Still Here": The production I saw was at the 5th Avenue in Seattle, and I believe it was Judy Kaye, but perhaps DR George can jog my memory.
Discussion about tonight's BIG BROTHER 6.
Do not read, if you have not watched.
Am I the only one who does not get why everyone thinks the last pair has to be split up? I would rather have had Howie nominate Maggie and Ivette (since maggie basically controls everybody). If you are not going to win, then why does it matter if CBS has to hand out $1M to the winner. They are a weak team. I really would have gunned for maggie.
But speaking of maggie, i do not like her, i do not like her, i do not like her. She goes on to april about how they have to team up since ivette/beau are a team and janelle/howie are a team. YET, when she wins the veto, she has to THINK about whether to take ivette off (that would mean her partner april would go up). April was hysterical when she found out what mags was thinking about doing. I don't get how maggie can claim to be such a wonderful clean player. Yet she cannot keep a deal to save her life. UGHHH!!!
Oh and double uggh for who won HOH. This is horrible!
Why is everyone sitting there like lumpen pieces of herring? Let's get some life going on, let's get some pep and vim and snazz going on. Food call - what has everyone eaten thus far?
Great pictures, Cillaliz!
Sorry that's so big, I couldn't figure out how to make it smaller after I posted it
Judy Kaye played Sally, but Karen Morrow sang "I'm Still Here." My absolute most favorite performance (that I've seen...not just heard) of the song.
I believe I have a videotape of this production sitting around somewhere. . .
:o And when can I expect a copy???? ;)
When I finally get around to organizing the darned videotapes - so far, I have one box organized of Tony Awards and Rosie O'Donnell shows. . .
Cillaliz - what about the beautiful home in the Garden District? Have you heard about how it held up to the hurricane?
I haven't heard. I did find this photo that seems to be in the neighborhood
Mr. Coppola made the film he wanted to make - at that point, he didn't have people telling him what he could and couldn't do, and so to suddenly, twenty-three years later, decide to rethink it would be like some painter going back to his painting and redoing it just because he "rethought" it. It's something else if he paints a new version but the original is there at the same time.
Have moved from Top Hat to Shall We Dance, but I'm suspecting that watching the Astaire/Rogers films in a row is not a good idea.
Those were great pictures, DR Cillaliz. And for some reason, the page loaded much more quickly tonight even with the photos than it normally would with that many images.
Just another of those confounding mysteries about computers.
Consider it a birthday gift from cyberspace!
One of the gifts I got tonight was the DVD of A HOME AT THE END OF THE WORLD which I have had on my wish list for a year or so, and I finally have it. That will get watched at some point this coming week.

Lots of people have had mixed reactions to A HOME, DR JRand, so I'm not surprised at yours. Still, I really want to see it.
Thanks, DR Ron, for the review of ANNIE. As much as I liked the Disney TV version of ANNIE (with Kathy Bates), the stage version is far superior if you have good actors playing the roles. The score is terrific and there's lots of humor that both the feature film and the TV-movie missed by cutting songs and scenes.
Adding a new song at this late date, almost 30 after the Broadway premiere? Ridiculous! If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it.
Same source:
"Is "Why Should I Change a Thing?" a trunk song or new?
"It's not a trunk song by any stretch of the imagination," Charnin said. "It was written because the guy -- ( The GUY!! Goodness gracious!) who played Warbucks in Australia is a wonderful singer named Anthony Warlow. In a kind of genteel way, he said, 'You know it's really a shame that Warbucks doesn't sing as much as I'd like him to.' That was over a lunch meeting when I first cast him. I went away and about two months later I went looking for a place to put this Warlow/Warbucks song in.
And I have to say, that I am another who does NOT donate money or anything else to the Red Cross. Please do some research on the organization before you do.
EVEN with some research, it's always very difficult to know how the money is actually used! Always, say I!
Here's the link to the whole article and a picture of Mr Schuck who... sucks (Ooooh!) and the wonderful Annie you saw today, DR Da Dooh Ron Ron!
http://www.playbill.com/news/article/94590.html
And I never said Schuck "sucks". He's very good. It's just that new song sounds terrible sung by him.
I just finished watching a lovely dvd called DONKEY SKIN (Peau D'ane) which I enjoyed immensely. Must make a note to myself to watch more Jacques Demy films. . .or films with Jacques Perrin in them.
Oh No, William Rhenquist just died. Bush is going to get another Supreme Court Justice..
