Happy Birthday to DR TCB!!!

I was Dan O'Herlihy's publicist before/during/after he did THE LAST STARFIGHTER.
One day, he decided to have some fun and he drove home from the studio wearing his Grig mask.
It's a miracle that he didn't cause any auto accidents.

Greetings from the airport, specifically Continental Airlines terminal. The ride here was very speedy and comfortable, and getting through security was the fastest it's been in ages. So, here I sit, and we should be boarding in about forty minutes.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Safe Travel Vibes for BK ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
-
Good morning, all! I slept an hour later than I meant to, so I am very happy I sent my Travelin Vibes to BK last night. I didn't sleep badly and I'm off all my pain meds so I have no idea where the hell all my crazy dreams came from, in one I was rescuing a young prince and his mother from danger, in another I was working on a production of THE SOUND OF MUSIC, in another I had Catherine Zeta Jones in my mother's living romm around 1978, then I was working on a production of THE BEGGAR'S OPERA, and just before I woke up I was talking to Harvey Schmidt at Lincoln Center in a light rain - he was carrying an umbrella and wearing a widebrimmed hat.
So, I just put the laundry into the washers, and when the things go into the dryers, I think I shall hie myself up to Ron Raines' apartment and drop off Mrs Raines' birthday gift. Her birthday was a week ago and they're on a cruise to Russia and St Petyersburg at the moment. I know they're arriving back at some point today but I have no idea exactly when to expect them, so the gift will be waiting for her.
After that, a stop at a hardware store to get something to adhere several tiles falling off my bathroom wall before a chain reaction begins. Around then it will be time to take the laundry out of the dryers so maybe I will hold off on the refrigerator till tomorrow.
Then, I have work to do here on Brent's album, some fixes in the scores for Life Begins at 8:40 that I ship tomorrow, and my continued look at the new full score for OH BOY! which is more error-laden than I ever suspected.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Happy Birthday Wishes to Our DR TCB for Good Times, Good Health, and Expensive Gifts !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sunday.
Happy Birthday to DR TCB!
And welcome to the best sign in the Zodiac - VIRGO!
;D
I sure do agree with this!
-
Good morning!
My night of sleep was erratic, but like DR Elmore, I ended up sleeping at least an hour longer than I meant to. It was actually cool outside this morning, a nice change from the past couple of months. I hope this is a trend that will continue.
-
Happy Day to Birthday Boy DR TCB!!!

Newspapers are certainly scrambling to find additional money anywhere they can.
Ever since I can remember, the Sunday paper has included a week-long TV supplement.
Now, our local paper THE CHARLOTTE OBSERVER has done away with their TV supplement and are requiring subscribers to spend an additional .59 per week to pay for a new TV enclosure called ON TV. Yes, it has the local listings and naturally with as much TV as I watch, I'll have to have it, but one begins to feel he's being nickel and dimed to death all the time.
-
My work project today is a film I don't think I've ever seen before, David Mamet's HOMICIDE which is the next Criterion release slated for September 8th. The disc is not crawling with bonus features but there are a few so I'm not sure if I'll be able to get the whole thing done this afternoon of it it will spill into the evening hours.
-
Hope all goes well with bk's flight and his week in NYC. I'll look forward to the daily reports.

HAPPIEST OF BIRTHDAYS TO TCB.
-
Well, after over 9 months of preproduction and 3 months of playing the friggin' show, today is the last performance of THE PRODUCERS. Can't say I'm sad. ;)
-
The internet seems very quiet this morning. Very little occurring. Maybe that's my cue to close up shop here and head downstairs to get laundry ready for washing and then start to think about what's for lunch.

I presume that BK is still up in the air at the moment so........
Safe landing and fast drive into the city and the hotel room is okay.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TCB and go out an have some TCBY
-
Found out yesterday my Godfather passed away at the age of 94 from complication of Alzheimers. He was a superior court judge in Canada and was responsible for my father going to practice law in Toronto and because of that he met my mother and they got married and then had me. One person can make a difference. Even though I did not see him for the last 7 years he will be missed.
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I'm here.
-
A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE ONE AND ONLY, DR TCB!!!!!
-
DR Jane - I hope that your DS Craig was able to get his move accomplished yesterday, and that the weather "coordinated" with his move too.
-
DR Michael S - Condolences to you and your family. -And it really is amazing - and wonderful! - just how much "making a difference" can mean and do.
-
So...
After I left the apartment yesterday, I met up with my friend, Daniel, and continued playing tourguide for the weekend.
Of course, we started at MoMA (http://www.moma.org). They had just "revolved" the exhibition in the photography galleries, and since Daniel, in addition to being a pianist and teacher is also a photographer...
It turned out that they were featuring some Avedon photographs in the final room, and some of them were duplicate/copies/prints of the ones currently on display at the ICP. It was neat seeing them in a different setting, different context.
-
We were originally planning on eating lunch in Cafe 2 at MoMA, but since Daniel was only in town for two days, I decided a change of scene and venue might be good for lunch, so we headed over to the Parker Meridien for some burgers (http://www.parkermeridien.com/eat4.php).
Thankfully, the line wasn't too bad, and we were also able to snag a booth.
-
The weather seems a bit better today, though there is the threat of rain, sorry BK. The sun is out at the moment but it's off and on down here in Chelsea.
I'm supposed to try and see How Now Dow Jones this late afternoon. I just heard from my friend and we are going to see it so I have to just marinate the chicken breasts and leave them in the refrigerator and have the for Tuesday dinner since HNDJ is at 5:45 and I'm seeing Mr. Kimmel tomorrow evening. I took out the chicken breasts yesterday and didn't remember that I'm seeing the show until this morning when they already had defrosted. Oh, well, they should keep in the marinade.

Well, after over 9 months of preproduction and 3 months of playing the friggin' show, today is the last performance of THE PRODUCERS. Can't say I'm sad. ;)
Happy end of show!!!!
-
As the Vixter related we did have a little excitement around here
-
After lunch, we headed across the street to Steinway Hall (http://www.steinwayhall.com/). I was a little hesitant to head in there after my last visit there - one of the receptionists was most definitely having a bad day that day - but after signing the guest book (which everyone is required to do), we were greeted by one of their lead salesmen. Even though we were "just browsing", he did say he would be happy to show us the other gallery upstairs if we wanted to take a look. -That's when I began to wonder if he remembered me from two previous trips to Steinway Hall where I came up to help select a new concert grand for two groups. -Oh, if I only $136,00 to spare for a grand piano right now. ::)
-
Oh, Yes...
~~~~~~TRAVEL VIBES TO OUR VERY OWN BK~~~~~~
-
After "dreaming" - and some playing - of pianos at Steinway, we walked over to the Time-Warner Center, where we came across this upstairs in the Jazz at Lincoln Center venue:
The Collage Aesthetic of Louis Armstrong: "In the Cause of Happiness" (http://www.jalc.org/exhibit/)
“My hobbie (one of them anyway),” Louis Armstrong wrote to a friend in 1953, “is using a lot of scotch tape… My hobbie is to pick out different things during what I read and piece them together and make a little story of my own.”
What a beautiful little gem of an exhibit this turned out to be! His "tape box collages" not only reflected Louis Armstrong's career, but also the political and social climate over the course of his career. -As well as a very interesting obsession(?) with Swiss Kriss.
-
I had dropped her at the church fair along with several of her friends and she was meeting up with some more so that there were 10 of them together - between the ages of 15 - 17
I was siposed to pick them up at 10:30 when the fair ended but the Vixter called at 9:30 and said they were done with the rides and asked if it was alright if they all walked to her best friends house (8 blocks "the short way") from the fair - 4 stayed behind but it was to be 3 girls and 3 boys walking together so I agreed (as did the other parents) these are good kids they all knew to call if they were changing venues
On their wauy to the best friend house they were approached by 2 boys - one of whom grabbed an IPOD away from one of our boys - the victim tried to stop the theif from leaving by grabbing the thief's shirt - tearing it in the process- but he was punched in the face and he let go. The theives ran away and the group made the wise decision not to persue but to get to the best friend's house and her parents as soon as possible.
As soon as they arrived they called 911 and the police weho wer at the fair wer able to identify and capture the the thief with the torn shirt (who was enjoying his ill gotten gains - listening to his new IPOD) - the other one dissappered
The various parents were called - the victim id'd the thief bu the thief claimed - "some one found the the IPOD and gave it to him" - so the Police came back and asked if anyone else could ID the thief & the Vixter volunteered - all parties were taken to the precinct in separate cars - the parents following in their own vehicles
-
The kids were amazing they stayed calm and cool and made good decisions under difficult circumstances and I am proud of all of them
and I thnka God that thge 15 year old thief and his associate was not armed
-
Then after taking a "dessert break" at Landmarc, we headed up to Lincoln Center to see if there were any tickets available for last night's performance of South Pacific. Well...
-Do you by chance have any tickets for tonight's performance on South Pacific?
"Hold on. Let me see what I have... I have two seats available, Fifth Row Center, on the aisle."
-YES! We'll take them!
:)
-Apparently, someone didn't use their house seats last night.
Long story - and long day - short: It was my third or fourth time seeing this production, but it was Daniel's first time. -He gets up to NYC about twice a year from Louisville. He had heard good things about South Pacific, but it really wasn't on his radar for this trip. Well.. As soon as the overture started and the "magic" begain, well... It was very much on his radar. And back on mine too.
The production is in good shape. Laura Osnes - of "YTOTIW" fame - is a wonderful Nelly Forbush. Alas, Paolo Szot was out last night, but Willam Michaels seems to have settled in nicely. Both Loretta Ables Sayre (Blood Mary) and Danny Burstein (Billis) are still with the show, and both of them still break my heart. -And seeing Danny's performance again last night just really made me wish he had won the Tony for his Billis - it's such a well-rounded and deep portrayal - and still fresh and real after almost two years! I'm still not sure what I think of the new Lt. Cable... 'nuff said... ;)
After the show, I was able to catch up with one of my former students who is in the show, and he took us backstage and on-stage for a little tour. It was a perfect way to cap an originally planned night at the theater, as well as a wonderful day in New York City.
-
Broken Leg Vibes for JMK's last Producer show
-
Sounds like Jose had a wonderful day!! The Vixter and I must get to see South Pacific at some point - may be we camn get there this fall
-
BTW Jose, do you know if former Dr Jason is still working the concession at Avenue Q?
-
DR JMK - Have a wonderful last performance today! *Will you be cutting "Good-Bye!"? ;)
-
BTW Jose, do you know if former Dr Jason is still working the concession at Avenue Q?
Jason is over at Shrek right now. But I'm sure that if the vixter would like some "merch", well... ;)
-
OH!
One of the tape box collages that Louis Armstrong assembled included a photo of him standing alongside Danny Kaye and Susan Gordon from "The Three Pennys".
:)
-
BTW Jose, do you know if former Dr Jason is still working the concession at Avenue Q?
Jason is over at Shrek right now. But I'm sure that if the vixter would like some "merch", well... ;)
Iwas hoping we would run ito him _ I miss his wit and humor!
We need to go see Shrek at some point as well
-
well time to go be productive - have a good day all!!
-
DR Jose, I'm thinking about seeing THE HANGOVER at 84th late this afternoon. Want to come along?
-
Sounds like Jose had a wonderful day!! The Vixter and I must get to see South Pacific at some point - may be we camn get there this fall
I really did have a wonderful day yesterday. And none of it had been planned in advanced. Daniel was such a good "guest", and since he also liked to wander and walk around the city, it made for a nicely paced and varied day. And, for the most part, the weather cooperated too.
There was one bit of panic I did have yesterday when I realized that I did not have my iPhone anywhere on me or in my bag. Thankfully, I was able to retrace my steps, and was able to reclaim my phone... At the Lincoln Center box office... I guess in all the excitement of getting excellent seats for last night's show, I had left my iPhone on the little "shelf" outside the box office window.
Whoops! and Whew!!!
-
DR Jose, I'm thinking about seeing THE HANGOVER at 84th late this afternoon. Want to come along?
Hmm... Depends how late. What time?
I'm coaching at 2:00 - a friend of mine has a final callback for Hair tomorrow! - and then I was thinking of heading down to Lincoln Center to catch the recreation of Mazel Tov, Mis Amigos (http://bit.ly/zj5FX) out at Damrosch Park. However, the air-conditioned comfort of a movie-theater is starting to look more inviting right now... As well as Bradley Cooper. ::)
-
OH! (once again)
The two current exhibitions at the NYPL for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center...
Diaghilev's Theater of Marvels: The Ballets Russes and Its Aftermath (http://www.nypl.org/research/calendar/exhib/lpa/lpaexhibdesc.cfm?id=509)
and
Katharine Hepburn: In Her Own Files (http://www.nypl.org/research/calendar/exhib/lpa/lpaexhibdesc.cfm?id=510)*
...are very well worth at least a few minutes of one's time. The Katherine Hepburn exhibit, in particular, is filled with some incredible items, and I like how it doesn't gloss over some of the personal and professional clashes she had with some of her fellow thespians. There's even a great little note of congratulations from Judy Garland in one of the cases too!
*You can download the brochure for the exhibit as a PDF from the site.
-
DR Michael S - Condolences to you and your family. -And it really is amazing - and wonderful! - just how much "making a difference" can mean and do.
Exactly my sentiments.
Yes, the Lincoln Center NYPL. -Thankfully(?), Daniel and I had ended up spending a good hour going through those rooms - and that's when I noticed that my iPhone was M.I.A. We were still "on campus", and that made it much easier to retrace and remember my steps.
5:40 sounds good if that's not too late for you. -Then we could even grab a bit to eat right after the movie too, if you'd like.
-
We can go to the pizza place next to La cocina! I haven't been there in ages.
-
Thank you DR Jose. I also hope the vet appointment this morning was productive & Yogi was given something to help his skin problem. They really need to find a good vet in Silver Springs & get him allergy tested.
I'll just have to wait for news for when they have the time & energy to share. Craig has friends in the DC area & I hope some of them were able to help unload the moving truck.
There are lots of good vets in the Silver Spring area, well, in the DC area in general. I have lots of friends with pets down in DC/VA/MD, and they always seem very happy to recommend their vet to their friends. ;)
-
OH! ;)
And I'd like to share another public Thank You to the folks at Casellula for yet another wonderful dining experience. We stopped by there again - my fourth night in a row - for a post-show glass of wine, and ended up being treated to some brachetto, a taste of some mead(!), as well as a very personal selection of Spanish cheeses. Oh, an amazing slice of chocolate cake too.
Like I said, yesterday was a really good day. As was the day before. And it looks like today is shaping up to be another good one too.
*And, I'm not really plugging the service, but Twitter really came into play the past few days. It really is kind of amazing the number of Followers and Followings I've met over the past 72 hours.
-
OK - Time to get cleaned up and ready for the rest of my day.
Laters...
-
DR Jose you really know how to enjoy life :)
It is encouraging to hear there are many good vets in the area, hopefully one of those good vets will be close to their new apartment.
-
Friday I stopped at the library only to find it closed. That is the moment in my day I realized it was Friday & not Saturday. If I wasn't aware this happened 2 days ago & not yesterday, I might have let Keith convince me today is Saturday & not Sunday. Between us we seem to be very confused this week. ;D
-
But before I go, let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s all break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, let’s all dance the Hora and the Charleston, for today is the birthday of our very own beloved TCB. Made it safe and sound and with no rain, although it started to drizzle just before we got to the hotel. Had a pleasant cab ride in, and am now in the teeny-tiny room, which, thankfully, is not as teeny-tiny as, say, the Paramount Hotel. There's not a lot of walking room here, but the bed is big, there's a nice desk for Ye Olde Computer, and I'll be just fine for as much as I'll be here. The only annoying thing, actually, is that when I booked the hotel it clearly said there was a gym - but the gym is not on the premises, it's two blocks away and costs $15 a day. I don't love the idea of having to get up early, walk two blocks, do the treadmill (presuming one is available in a busy mid-town gym) and then walk back to the hotel. Seems a little sketchy to me, so I may either not do the gym on this trip or I may try jogging, although I don't have proper jogging shoes here. We shall see.
-
A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE ONE AND ONLY, DR TCB!!!!!
Thanks, Jose.
-
Thanks to all for the excellent vibes and xylophones - they worked splendidly. I have to say, the wireless in this hotel is slow as molasses, despite having a full signal.
Sunday.
Happy Birthday to DR TCB!
And welcome to the best sign in the Zodiac - VIRGO!
Thank you Jrandsoontobe! 59, and I am still a Virgo (hear that td?).
I don't think a do-it-yourself kit qualifies as the real McCoy, DR TCB!
Becasue Laura is such a nag, I decided to fill the animal troughs.
First came the Blue Jays:
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR TCB ;)
Good afternoon to everyone.
Hope this Sunday is a pleasant one. Especially for pain free relaxing.
-
Just listened to How to Murder Your Wife and Lord Love a Duck. What a wonderful way to spend 2 hours.
Isn't it FUN?
Took another car load of stuff to Out of the Closet this morning. Why do I have so much stuff I will never use. Laundry is done, grocery shopping is done. Now to pay bills and get ready for work tomorrow, my 5 day mini vacation is over. :(
-
I will venture out of my nice cool cave one more time later this afternoon (It's hot outside), for something cold in the way of ice cream and maybe to annoy my friend Tom to see how his new apt., is coming along.
Till later, have a great Sunday.
when in NY, doesn't walking a lot, make up for the treadmill ?
DR Michael Shayne, condolences to you and your family. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
-
Sunday afternoon greetings! We've been home from Lima for almost 2 hours, but I fell asleep as soon as we got here and Richard finally woke me up after an hour and a half. He was afraid I'd not be able to sleep tonight if I slept longer this afternoon. Lesson learned today - since my alarm goes off at 5:30am on Sundays, I must not stay up until midnight on Saturdays!
-
Happiest of birthdays to DR TCB!
Condolences to DR Michael Shayne.
-
DR Michael Shayne, you have my condolences.
The things you learn here on HHW! Who would have thunk that DR TCB is a virgo! (certainly not me)!
-
Dear friends are such a comfort. My friend JEff who threw a luau party last night that I was not able to attend dropped by this afternoon with enough leftovers to feed an army.
I am SO blessed to have these dear people in my life.
-
While I ate lunch, I watched Friday night's MONK. It's the best MONK episode in quite a long time. I laughed out loud several times, and all of Monk's idiocyncricies were worked into the plot quite amusingly.
-
Then I watched HOMICIDE. It's a very good movie, quite enthralling and goes into places you're not expecting so it's not a typical procedural drama like you think it's going to be.
The new transfer is quite beautiful.
-
Michael Shayne, I am sorry to hear about your loss. Yes, it's amazing how one person can change everything.
-
David Mamet (who wrote and directed) and William Macy did the commentary, and it's very interesting hearing these old friends talk about their career paths.
Not a lot of other bonuses on the disc, far fewer than the usual Criterion release.
-
We let the kittens out of the kitten room, and they are having a ball running around. The older cats are watching, looking quite bewildered.
-
Very sorry to read of your loss, DR Michael Shayne.
-
DR Matt, real friends truly are a blessing.
-
While I was waiting for Jeff to arrive, I watched the Angela Lansbury-Private Screenings episode on TCM. It's one of the better interviews conducted in this series.
And now I'm really going!
;D
-
Went to Duane Reade to get the toiletries that are too large to carry on the plane - I do this every trip since they made that ultra-ridiculous 3 ounce thing in a plastic bag thing. I walked over to the gym - it looks nice, but I know these NY gyms get crazy busy, so I have no idea what to expect. I'll mosey on over there at nine tomorrow and see what's what, but if it's crazy, I'll just jog for forty-five minutes or an hour.
-
One block from the hotel is a Popeye's fried chicken and next door to it is a Baskin-Robbins.
-
I did a lot of notes for Crista's act whilst on the plane - she'd sent me everything we put together last year, but that isn't really an act - I put Band-Aids on all the patter and numbers, and it's worked fine for her, but now it's time to make it a real structured act, so there's going to be lots of new stuff to learn and songs to be chosen - but I have a clearer idea of how it will work after making the notes.
SEND in the stars!
Just a week ago, Trevor Nunn's revival of Stephen Sondheim's "A Little Night Music" was on the verge of falling apart.
The great Angela Lansbury had agreed to play Madame Armfeldt, provided the producers lined up another star to play her daughter, Desiree.
An old showbiz shrewdie, Lansbury didn't want to shoulder a multimillion-dollar Broadway revival by herself.
The producers were sweating a Labor Day deadline, but now it appears they've got their second headliner: Catherine Zeta-Jones.
Zeta-Jones, who won an Oscar as Velma Kelly in the film "Chicago," recently moved here from Los Angeles with her husband, Michael Douglas, to do a show. She'd accepted an offer, sources say, to star in "Women on the Verge," based on the Pedro Almodovar film, but the producers decided she'd have to audition, and, annoyed, she passed.
Sondheim called Zeta-Jones and persuaded her to do "Night Music" instead. It will open at the Walter Kerr in mid-December.
A question for those living in Oregon:
Are you supposed to tip the guy who pumps your gas at a full-service station?
I wonder if Uncle Steve could convince Brent Barrett to play Fredrik?
Bruce, IMHO, you should be wearing running shoes on a treadmill. I would not use one without them.
DR Matt H, I'm glad you won't need to cook for awhile. I wish my friends were all scattered around the country, even in L.A. they are all very far apart.
This is funny. It seems like a waste of money unless you check your bag on the return trip home. How many items did you have to buy?
I am always on the lookout for travel size products of items I use, and for small containers to transfer products into. With my allergies I cannot trust I'll find products which are safe for me to use.
Found out yesterday my Godfather passed away at the age of 94 from complication of Alzheimers. He was a superior court judge in Canada and was responsible for my father going to practice law in Toronto and because of that he met my mother and they got married and then had me. One person can make a difference. Even though I did not see him for the last 7 years he will be missed.
A question for those living in Oregon:
Are you supposed to tip the guy who pumps your gas at a full-service station?
NO! :o Why do you ask?
It was a question on another message board I follow.
The thinking is that he provided a service, like a waiter does. Thus, he should be tipped.
Little Night Music casting notes:
Victoria Mallory – played Ann in the Original BWay cast.
She married Mark Lambert, who played Henrik
They have a daughter, Ramona Mallory, who recently played Luisa in The Fantasticks.
She is now reportedly being cast in her mother's part as Ann in the revival.
All in the family.
Now, can we find an American Idol to play Petra and knock The Miller's Son out of the park.
I've never tipped to have the gas tank filled & the windows cleaned. It seems one is already paying a premium for this service, and we are very lucky if the front window is cleaned.
I relayed your comments to Keith & was shocked he didn't have "choice words" to say about the fact he is not permitted to pump his own gas & must wait for an attendant, even when they are busy. I'm perfectly content to let someone else fill the tank & deal with the stinky stuff.
And now you're hard pressed to find a station with an air hose or water. (Of course the station at the Safeway does have an air pump $0.75 a pop.)
Not I. I am very glad Oregon says it is dangerous for us to fill our gas tanks so I don't have to do it. Honest, that is the explanation. There are signs at the stations telling us so. Keith is very insulted the state considers him an idiot ;D
How do my fellow Oregonians feel about this?
Yup, and I don't remember tipping. Maybe we should have.
-
We buy our tires at the local Les Schwab & they will check our tires for free. I just forget to go in there even though I pass it just about everyday.
-
I remember full-service stations when I was a kid, but by the time I began to drive, self-serve was popular. I don't even think full-serve stations exist out here -- haven't for years.
-
DR Laura you are so young.
It's the same in New Jersey.
I have been known to just go ahead and pump my own gas if I feel like I've waited long enough. It causes great sturm and drang in a white trash sort of way. ;)
-
And by the way, I am DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I'm back from seeing THE HANGOVER and having a tasteful and tasty dinner at Artie's with DR Jose. The company, as ever, was excellent, and I thought at first I was going to hate THE HANGOVER, but as the mystery progressed, and various and sundry outrageous moments began to pile up I changed my mind and enjoyed it quite a lot.
-
There was a station near our 2nd house in Michigan that had the option of self service or full service, and I mean old fashioned full service. Next door to the station was a drive through car wash. I would go to the car wash & then to the full service where all of my windows & side mirrors were dried.
Checking the oil was smart as I also used them for oil changes. I miss the car wash and gas station. The car wash gave little wet towels to wipe the inside of the car as the outside was getting a bath.
-
Living so close to California we see a lot of tourist trying to pump their own gas. Keith used to also do this & often forgets after a trip over the boarder. We are well aware of the reaction when you attempt to do it yourself. On the upside it gets one service very quickly.
-
And by the way, I am DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CONGRATULATIONS!
-
DR elmore I'm glad you enjoyed the movie & your evening with DR Jose.
-
I have returned from How Now Dow Jones. It was a lot of fun. They made revisions and cut some somes but also added two that were cut from the show originally and added one that is on the cast recording but was not in the show.
The guy playing Charlie, Colin Hanlon, is wonderful. He's funny and charming and has the "gawk, tousle and shucks" (a song in the show) quality needed for the role.
I don't think the show would work in a full production, the book is a mess, even with revisions but the score is fun. It's always been one of my guilty pleasures.
I'm very glad I finally got to see a production (albeit slightly revised and pared down to 75 minutes) of the show.
-
So, what happens if one pumps one's own gas in Oregon? Do you get a citation? Arrested?
-
So, what happens if one pumps one's own gas in Oregon? Do you get a citation? Arrested?
No, you get accosted by people with an average IQ of negative 12. ;)
-
They typically yell something like, "Hey! You can't do that!"
To which I typically reply something like, "Well, I sure seem to be able to." Which momentarily confuses them to the point of consternation. ;)
-
If I pull into our local service station the grandsons of the owner, as well as some high school kids, are usually pumping gas. I tip them. For the most part, however, I pump my own gas at other service stations using the gas perks from grocery stores. Yesterday I saved .85/gallon.
-
You are very nice DR td. I tip the guys at the drive thru car wash.
The gas station attendants, for the most part, don't really have IQ's of 12, otherwise DR JMK, ROTFLOL
Hi Dakota, as always it is nice to see you.
I only buy three things at Duane Reade and they are not things that have travel sizes, or I don't like the brand of the travel sized. It costs me about eight bucks on every trip and I just leave them behind.
Happy Birthday TCB
Thanks Dakota, nice to see you posting.
Back from a nice dinner with Crista - I was pretty good - had a shrimp cocktail and a chicken sandwich, and some potato chips. I jogged back to the hotel - but it's less than a half-mile - still it felt good. Oh, and I did have dessert but it was a non-caloric dessert of fruit.
I certainly hope I thanked everyone for the birthday wishes. If I missed anyone is was certainly unintentional.
When I sailed on the Norwegian
Nightmare Dream they served cheese cake one night for dessert. I said, "Is this real New York cheese cake (we were in South America)?"
The waiter very indignantly assured me that it most definitely was New York Cheese Cake. It turned out to be Royal Gelatin Chiffon-style cheese cake, complete with graham cracker crust.
And people wonder why I won't travel on Norwegian again.
I spent the first part of my evening watching the two-hour PROJECT RUNWAY DESIGNERS' CHALLENGE.
Nice to see most of these folks again, and each of them did some quality designs though to be honest, I didn't think anyone had four solid looks in his collection.
As for the winner, I would have reversed first and second place and I would have reversed third and fourth place. But I did think those four had the best collections.
I liked Uli's dresses the most, but there was NO color, and it needed color.
Kevin fell asleep and by the time he called me we were leaving. Brent is out of town so won't be seeing him.
Oh, then I guess Brent is finished doing CHICAGO.
He's on tour with it, I think.
Seriously?
For a couple of weeks.
Then I watched tonight's TRUE BLOOD. I was furious with Sam being so stupid as to be fooled by that ridiculous phone call. And there was probably a bit too much silliness in the resolution that led to Sam's escape.
Still some good thrills and moments, and always a pleasure to see Ryan's body. Sam looked really good in that apron as well.
Well, my PT is tomorrow morning at 7:45, so I need to get in bed ASAP.
Thank you all for the thoughts for my me and my family. I spoke to my father and I know he would had gone to the funeral, but he is not well enough to travel. More and more of his contemporaries; family & friends are passing away and he is still hanging in there. I know this is very distressing to him
On a lighter note
I found out tonight that my best friend's husband is losing his battle with cancer. He's been fighting valiantly for the past year with what started as bladder cancer. On his last trip to Mayo, they discovered that it has now taken over his liver and moved to his lungs. They said there is nothing more they can do for him and he only has a few weeks to live. Very sad news.
New notes are up and hang tight while I change the topic.
