SILENT MOVIE

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were silent and yet spoke volumes, and now it is time for you to post until the silent cows come home.

Good morning, all! Today is my deadline with New World Records, and I am ready for it; I've received corrections on the German lied notes, I was reminded from the Man From Philadelphia that I had forgotten the Introduction, and i've heard nothing from the producer, engineer, or mastering personnel, so i guess I gave the correct information. I'll make the fixes in the lieder section and send it off.

After that, I have a bit more work on the stage band scoring of "You're Devastating" from ROBERTA, and once that is finished, I will move to the next number and continue finishing Act one. By then, I should be getting corrections on the vocal score to DEAREST ENEMY, so there's work.

More coffee!I've got all my tax receipts sorted by category, so I need to take a couple of hours each day and tally the receipts for my appointment nine days from now.

More coffee!

I think my favorite silent film is the Norma Shearer-Ramon Navarro THE STUDENT PRINCE

DR Dan(theMan). isn't THE BLUE ANGEL a sound film? Don't I recall Marlene singing "Falling In Love Again"?

I was first drawn to silent movies through my interest in horror films.  I remember greedily reading every word in the articles in Famous Monsters of Filmland that covered movies such as Phantom, The Hunchbach of Notre Dame, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, etc.  And then there were the ads in the back of the magazine hawking 8 mm copies of the films--I pined for the bucks to send away for them (not to mention a movie projector that would play them.)

But then there came a series on a local PBS (or prolly NET) channel--Classics of the Silent Screen, which not only presented the horror films but also served to introduce me to the likes of Broken Blossems, Orphans Of The Storm and The Sheik.  So at a fairly early age I learned to appreciate the artistry of the silents and never turned my nose up at them.

Yes, I think you are correct.  I'm prolly confusing it with Flesh and The Devil.

Was the German BLUE ANGEL a talkie?  Did Detrich sing in that one, too?  I might have seen it, but I don't recall at the mo'...

Every year it's the same:  I start watching the Grammy Awards and half way through I realize that I don't listen to 75% of the music being presented and I wind up changing the channel.

I will say that the show hasn't had a better host with L. L. Cool J. since Andy Williams.

Monday morning greetings!  No Grammy broadcast for me last night - I went to bed before 10pm and had a very refreshing night's sleep.

Watched "Murder on the Orient Express" last night for the first time in ages and now "12 Angry Men," so it's a Lumet double feature by accident. My, how young Martin Balsam looks going from one to the other in reverse time.

The sky is so white I can't see the mountains, which I'm sure are also white.  Keith & Craig are currently shoveling part of the road & the driveway so we can all get out of here.
