Glad to see you were not stranded on the island George. Goodnight.
And the word of the day is: HABOOB!
Make of it what you will.
Good morning DR elmore.
Kirk Douglas is not one of my favorites either.....but I certainly have enjoyed some of his performances including
ACE IN THE HOLE, as mentioned by MR BK in the notes, and I am happy to hear about this Criterion release. The movie always reminds of the first news event I remember hearing my parents talk about which is a little girl who fell into a well....in California I think....her name was Kathy Fiscus....and the country was enthralled with the rescue efforts, which I think, failed.
I also like Mr Douglas in:
The Bad and the Beautiful
Champion
Strangers When We Meet
And now that I have cheered up everybody's Saturday!!! I shall be on my way to work. 8)
Ever the proverbial bluebird!
DR JENNIFER according to someone I know who works on the SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE website for FOX....the bottom three for last week did NOT reflect the actual voting.
The couples with Pasha, Lacey, Dannyl were the ACTUAL lowest vote getters.
Hello, Julie! How are you today? Your sister's been stalking me and you must tell her to stop!
And the word of the day is: HABOOB!Spelled backwards, we get BOOBAH!
Make of it what you will.
HABOOB spelled backwards is BOOBAH!Well, yeah, but you didn't say anything about Boobah. ::)
RE: harry potter (no spoilers). You're just doing the movies? There's tons of stuff in the books that haven't been filmed. The two eldest Weasley brothers have never made it into the movies. Dobby is much more important in the books, as are house elves in general, and Kreacher, an important character in Order of the Phoenix, was reduced to a walk-on on screen. And Peeves, the Poltergeist, hasn't been in any of the movies, either! For me to say any more would probably result in spoilers.
...I actually haven't read any of the books (have seen the movies). But i have to head out to costco this morning to get my sister a copy (she is out of town). I suppose i could read it if i wanted to. Although since i haven't read the last ones it probably wouldn't make any sense to me....
Oh one more thing. For all those people trying to avoid spoilers, is it really that hard? I mean obviously if you read an article about the book there might be spoilers (but it seems obvious not to read reviews). But are there actually places that are showing spoilers without warning?Yep, there's all sorts of places that give no spoiler warnings. And not just on the Internet. They are called newspapers.
Even being retired, there aren't enough hours in the day to get everything watched, read, listened to, and studied. It's an endless proposition.
My connection went down just as I was posting. I'll try again.
TOD:
I concur with DR TOMOVOZ: I'm OK with the father, but don't think much of the son.
I am donating two suits that no longer fit me to a group that collects gently worn professional / quality dress casual clothes for women who need them for interviews, etc.
DAKOTA, could you pass on the name and address of that organization either here or in a PM? I have a ton of business clothes that I should reconsider. They're in perfect condition and too nice to just toss. The consignment shops here don't want anything that's more than 3 years old.
The one that is in Fargo is called Dressed for Success. It is through the Rape and Abuse Crisis Center and also in part with Job Service ND. It is geared to help women get out of abusive situations and rebuild their lives and help them with interviewing skills and get the appropriate clothes.
I know the Today Show has featured similar organizations also. I would check with the Rape and Abuse or Domestic Abuse organization. The one here in Fargo has been here for a number of years.
DR Jeanne - I believe there is a "Dressed for Success", or at least a very similar organization in DC that's run by one of the women's centers. I'm sure if you call "7 On Your Side" or WRC's help line, you could find a suitable ( ;) ) place for your gently-used clothes.

Did I miss his post about Bush?
Yes, thank you, Jose, there is one here. I checked with them a while back. They were very particular about what they would accept--only large sizes, for one thing. Mine are all small sizes.
This must be the official decluttering day.
Did I miss his post about Bush? No, we're having a Douglas debate.
Jeanne, Check with Habitat for Humanity I know they accept some building supplies as do building rehab places.Oh! Good point. I will. Thanks.
as do building rehab places...
LIbraries like donations of DVDs and CDs. I know NDSU is trying to create a DVD library for students to check out for fun and amusements. Professors have even used them for different classes.
I have dead computer equipment I want to get rid of.... The fargo landfill wont allow them...
Personally, I'm rather fond of my clutter.
Jeanne,
There are people who collect different pieces for people who are restoring old houses or just remodeling..
It may be similar to the ReStore that you mentioned. They are called Rehab Builds here.
Yeah, that's why it's so hard to get rid of. Personally, I do NOT agree with the anti-clutter people who tell you to get rid of anything you haven't used in a year. I believe that many old things have fond memories or just bring pleasure and should be kept.Does anyone ever use a high school yearbook?
NO we dont... I wish we did Jeanne... I have a Monitor and an old scanner that are sitting here in my office. I am presently using the monitor as a hassock
Does anyone ever use a high school yearbook?
Women's centers also like old cell phones due to being to dail 911.
And I, too, hope that both DRs NOEL and FJL will share NYMF stories with us here.
I came across a stock certificate for 10 shares of some company I never heard of, purchased by my parents in 1963. I doubt that it's worth anything, but feel compelled to investigate. YOU NEVER KNOW! I did a Google search and found one entry only--a letter on that company's letterhead, signed by the same name that's on the certificate. It's long-winded and rambling and I really can't fathom why it was even written. It's about wild hogs.
Harry Potter Spoiler!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is a very thick book.
Sort of a weird thing happened last night. Went out to dinner for my uncle's birthday and a fairly nice restaurant. I had babyback ribs. But they give way too much.
Actually i was completely full before i even started the main course. I had eaten 2 rolls (very good) and nachos and spinach dip.
Okay so i had most of my ribs left (why stuff myself when they taste so good the next day). Plus my mom gave me the rest of her ribs (so i really had a lot). But i also had like 1/3+ of my fries and a full thing of coleslaw.
Now i ask the guy to package my food, but when he comes back there are only ribs (but no fries and coleslaw). I was trying to decide if it was rude to ask him where they went. :)
Anyhow i decided to nicely ask him why he only brought my ribs. And he was like, "well there weren't that many left, did you want them?"
So he ended up bringing me new fries and coleslaw.
I guess most people only want their meat. But i just found it odd that he didn't ask if he wasn't sure!
Where's our DR Tomovoz this morning? I want to know if this production of COMPANY that's has riled Mr Sondheim is the one with David Campbell?
Oh btw, for BOSTON LEGAL fans:
I think at the end of the season it was reported that a number of people were leaving the show.
Apparently some were signed at the last minute. So now only julie bowen and constance zimmerman are leaving. Rene A and Mark valley are staying.
But Julie and Mark's characters just had a baby and got married! What are they gonna do with that??
But Julie and Mark's characters just had a baby and got married! What are they gonna do with that??She could be a stay at home wife.
This has happened to my sister...and it's happened more times than you would think. My sister does not eat a lot and really wants to take home all her left-over food. She has gotten to the point that she has to specifically tell the waitperson(s) to wrap up everything to go and if they "accidentally" throw something away or "assume" that she didn't want the side items, she makes them get her some more. Good for her, I say!
JRand - Interesting, there was a Law and Order episode that bore a striking similarity to Strangers on a Train, and they seemed to get around any copying issues by specifically referring to the characters having gotten the idea for their plot from Strangers on a Train. Did the mention of Floyd Collins in Ace in the Hole seem designed to try to get around any unfair copying charges, i wonder (perhaps rhetorically :) ) ?
We decided not to go to Border's last night. Instead I got up and went to Fred Meyer right at 7, where they had approximately 500 books being looked at by approximately 2 people (including me). A much better choice.Well I'll never say never again anyway. I just have so little information on Broadway plays. I'll leave the trivia for you JMK - come what may.
I believe I may have answered the Trivia question, but time will tell (a Lani Hall reference that probably only Tomovoz will get). ;)
DR Edi,
WILD HOGS was actually very successful at the box-office, the biggest hit John Travolta has enjoyed in at least a decade since GET SHORTY.
After seeing the wonderful production of FLOYD COLLINS at Playwrights Horizons (if I remember correctly), I found this book on the story. It's quite good.
DR MBarnum, there's a new horror film BEEF coming out about a young man killing body builders! Is this the film on which you were acting as an adviser?

This must be the official decluttering day.You guys are making me feel guilty....I worked at the office all afternoon, but need to do some laundry tonight. Maybe I should finally declutter the dining room tonight and make it a room usable for....dining.
The reviews for Mr Campbell and Company I've read were reasonably good - if anything disappointed that no risks had been taken - straightforward production. Mr Sondheim did give "an Evening With: which was televised (I don''t have Pay TV). I doubt Mr Sondheim would have said anything about the show when he had been invited to come out for it - and had just seen it.
Jeanne, Check with Habitat for Humanity I know they accept some building supplies as do building rehab places.I'm still waiting for them to come and pick up a portable dishwasher I've had for sometime. I have a deep freeze that I think is probably on it's legs...it was making so much noise and I haven't used it for so long that I emptied it and unplugged it. I think I'll call my handyman Jerry and give him both appliances. He seems to know places to donate things.
I have dead computer equipment I want to get rid of.... The fargo landfill wont allow them...
Does anyone ever use a high school yearbook?
Yes, they do. These no longer worked. they become obsoleted very quickly. The one I bought just last year is about ready to be tossed, too. My cell phones never seem to last more than a year and a half. Maybe that's because I buy the cheap ones!
I'm afraid it's probably not worth much...I don't think it did too well at the box office.
It's dark chocolate, coconut and cherry bits - so good.
I have some white chocolate here. No Bings or Cherry Ripes though.
Skip is on his way to see GYPSY as I type.
Congrats to Cillaliz on reaching a new millstone.
I know it's work but I never understood why Warlow and O'Connor let themselves become involved in the tragedy that was "Man Of La Mancha"
Then again Anthony W was involved in producing it. DUMB.
BK Maybe Ginny has seen something on the rental sites she's been checking out.
Lots of possibilities, but most are booked for the dates DH Richard and I need. Still haven't had replies from a couple of email inquiries I sent, nor has Shelli from Abode (http://www.abodenyc.com) called me back. Wonder if DR Elmore's fire escape could sleep 2?
It may be housing Cason and BJ!
There's a company here that accepts the dead equipment. maybe there is something like that there. I'd call a computer store and ask them where you can take it. I have some really old stuff... I've been keeping it for years just in case i ever get a case where there is evidence I need on an old big floppy disk. I don't think it will ever happen. I should really get rid of all of that
I've never had a Cherry Ripe. I know it was discussed this week, but what does it taste like?
Hello. I have finished Potter 7.
That is all.
Wow! Did DR CILLA LIZ pose for that cover?
Cillaliz, that is a lot of posts! Congrats!!
Wow! Did DR CILLA LIZ pose for that cover?
Perhaps one of her ancestors...although Cilla certainly is a beautiful lawyer!
I sure hope he is not a proctologist!
Remember DR CILLA LIZ....when things look dark in court....wear a gold cuff bracelet, and clutch those pearls!!!
Page Nine Sandwich Dance.

Does she cook in this outfit or just watch dancing sandwiches
Buy that gown, clutch those pearls
Get a little crown and ya sleep with Earls
You know I just didn't realize you could find vintage paperbacks on Amazon.com! Hmmmm...I wonder if there are any (non allergenic Deloros Hitchens' books available...she was a swell writer)
DR CILLA LIZ surely you own a nice collection of cuff bracelets.
I must say FJL and JRand, you guys are just cracking me up!
If that is the 1942 Buffalo Box....it's worth $20....1946 worth only 6.50
I wonder if MBarnum has actually read the title story in How To Write A Dirty Book and Other Stories - which has some lurid covers of its own.
Young punk's capers - sounds like a menu item
Isn't barotique the song by the Singing Nut?
I would say she is the titular character....ok, I had to say it
I don't supposed there is some process by which I can make the books non-alergenic (sp?) is there?
This one I have posted before....but it is worth a repeat viewing. Makes me want to take up art.

I am going to watch The Importance of Being Ernest on TCM.....it ALWAYS makes me laugh.....
DR Jeanne - you asked last night if I'd read any Rosamunde Pilcher books. Yes, The Shell Seekers and maybe some others. If you like her books, you might also like Maeve Binchy and Belva Plain.
Since our main lecture halls were Langdell North and Langdell Horth Middle, we also did North by North Middle, complete with cropduster parody.
10,000 Posts!!!!
Is Time Matters your billing program, Cilla?
...when friends come into the room, and even moreso when someone you've seen before comes into the room, has a killer audition, but is just not right for the project. Again. And again. And again.
Do you think he'd like to see the Reservoir?
LOL!! Somehow, I doubt it, I'm afraid... His partner of several years passed away just a year or two ago and, according to one of my other gay cousins, it's been very difficult for him to deal with it.
I can send you the link to his MySpace page, though... ;)
I'm a very good consoler.
-I just had to say it. Before DR elmore did. ;D
Hehe...You ain't right.
Was I evah?
And one for mauler
Guess what I just finished eating? C'mon, guess. Oh, well, I'll tell you - a Cherry Ripe!!! My big box o' Cherry Ripe candy bars arrived from Australia in a mere four days. There must be at least 100 bars in here. And man, was it GOOD! I like them best frozen. Good eatin' ahead.
