Nice new furniture DRMS!

Feel better DRSandra.  And I hope DRJennifer gets everything worked out....grrrrrrrrr...relationships!

So many things last night after I logged off.  I do READ everything, I just can't comment on EVERYTHING!!!  LOL

Two top tens?

Oh my.

Well I guess one of my top ten theatre experiences would be:

AN EVENING WITH DAME EDNA  ;D

A couple of others would be:

STONES IN HIS POCKETS and THE GOAT, or WHO IS SYLVIA?  :D

About the cd's I will have to think, although the GYPSY and MAME soundtracks are a lot of fun!  ;D

Happy Birthday from OZ DR Maya. I hope your special day is indeed wonderful and that the year ahead brings you much joy.
My top tens will have to wait until another 8 hours or more have passed.
I watched "The Road to Bali" tonight. Ihave a feeling that my sister will not see the same scenery whilst she is there. The film opens with some beautiful shots of my home town. It is hard to recognise the Melbourne of my childhood.

BK said in his notes:

May I just ask a question? Why didn’t Mr. Oscar Hammerstein just make it Climb Every Mountain? I know you leave out the “e” when you sing it, but really, did he need to be so cutesy with the apostrophe? It’s not like he’s saving a lot of letters, is it? None of these apostrophe words save a lot of letters, like doesn’t. One lousy letter saved – what is the point? Someone thought they were really creating a shortcut with that one, didn’t they?

I think the answer is the following:  When every is spelled as every and is properly pronounced there are three syllables and therefore three notes would be neccesary to sing that word.  If it is written as ev'ry t there are only two syllable and therefore two notes used.

It is possible that since Mr. Hammerstein was quite ill during the writing of The Sound of Music that Mr. Richard Rodgers wrote the score first and had OScar write the lyrics afterwards. So the lyrics had to fit the music written.

My theater going experience was limited this year.

The Producers
Hairspray
Thoroughly Modern Millie

all in NYC

Saw some plays here in Florida, but I did not like them.

Did see a lot of Cabaret as I have tickets for a series in Delray Beach, FL but I am not sure if that counts.

I wished Maya her happy birthday yesterday because the calendar begins with Monday as opposed to Sunday which is the first day of the week. I didn't notice it until now.

So DR Maya once again:

I don't believe in top ten of the year lists because some years there is so much that it is impossible to narrow it down and other years there is almost nothing.  Therefore some years list would contain titles that are totally inferior to items that had to be left off lists in other years and other years lists would only sratch the surface.

Thank you so much for all the kind bday wishes!

I think it's going to be a nice 21st birthday!  My mom and I are going into Georgetown (I'm at her workplace now) to see Big Fish and have lunch at a French restaurant...Les Halles de Paris, I think it is called.  Then I may invite some friends over for cake.  You know between Christmas and my birthday, I feel like I've gained 10 pounds.  I will have to go easy on the rich French food, with which I definitely plan to order a glass of wine!

Tomorrow morning I leave for NYC!

I will have to consider my top 10 lists and post later, since I must be on the run!  Hugs to all!

Happy Birthday, Maya!!

-Ooh, you're going to Les Halles... The pommes frites are tres delicieuse!

My top tens will have to wait until later tonight, as I'm about to get ready to head into rehearsal.  It's a long day on the schedule - Noon-10:00 - but the MD called me and reminded that since it is the first day of rehearsal, it will be filled with the usual first day stuff (meet & greet, Equity meeting, read-thru, costume measurements, etc.).  So, it should be kind of a relaxed day for me - which will be good since I'm used to being off on Mondays. ;)

Well, gotta run!

Happy Birthday Maya!

Well I saw Mona Lisa Smile - but I shall not review it - not because it was bad, good, great or amazing - only that PRIOR to the movie beginning there was a trailer for a new movie called "Win a Date with Tad Hamilton!" which, without question pays homage to Bye Bye Birdie. I'll let you decide for yourself.. Here's a link to the description and trailer...

Top 10 Theater-going experiences of 2003:

"Wicked" (June 27)
"An Evening With Dame Edna"
"Wicked" (May 31)

And that's it!

I'm sure glad BK didn't ask about my movie-going experiences, cuz there've been none, thus far, in 2003.

Theatre list for this year.....:

Hairspray
Take Me Out
Gypsy
Elaine Stritch At Liberty
Benny & The Jets
Cat On A Hot Tin Roof

and certainly as theatrical as anything that George Abbott ever mounted (eewwww, now that's a mental picture!)  our wonderful dinner at Joe Allen with adorable and interesting Hainsie's and Kimlets.

Off to the salt mines for awhile.......TTFN

Best Theatre:

Metamorphoses at Circle In The Square.

DR Joy and Noel's Musical Wedding ;)

Urinetown Original B;way cast

Didn't get to see alot of shows this year, and many of the things I did see are not worth mentioning. Hopefully next year will be more notable :P

Went to see Cold Mountain on saturday night. I really loved it and was very impressed with Renee Zellweger's performance.

Wow, woke up to 6 inches of snow this morning!!! It was beautiful, but not a lot of fun to drive in at 6:30 in the morning! Went through a few red lights and around a toppled over tree, but got through to work...dang it!

If is snowed like that up here, I imagine fellow Oregonian DR Jane has plenty where she is at!

Happy Birthday, DR Maya!

Thanks to BK for explaining the use of the word "anamorphic" as it applies to DVDs to DR S. Woody last night. As I read the rest of the posts from yesterday this morning, I was chomping at the bit to explain that we buffs of widescreen perspectives know anamorphic processes like Cinemascope from non-anamorphic ones like VistaVision. I really do have hope that Universal will eventually return to VERTIGO and give it the transfer it deserves; likewise PSYCHO. Why should something like TOPAZ have an anamorphic DVD and not these two Hitchcock masterpieces? If Fox can return to PLANET OF THE APES and give it a proper anamorphic transfer, Universal can do the same.

Happy birthday Mayakins, the original skank and Hainsie/Kimlet princess! :D

I'm off to go shopping and run around downtown once again in the hope that I will be sooooooo tired tonight I will actually sleep on the bus from hell.  I've already drunk about four cups of coffee so my chances of exhausted zoomage are looking good.

I can't list a Top Ten theatergoing experinece in 2003, at least of sitting in the theater watching something on the stage. Every stage play I saw this year was seriously flawed (SOUTH PACIFIC with a terrible Bloody Mary; GOD'S FAVORITE with good acting but a mediocre play), and my enjoyment was dimmed somewhat. Now, stage productions I saw on DVD like ELAINE STRITCH AT LIBERTY, BARBARA COOK in MOSTLY SONDHEIM, or OKLAHOMA! would certainly qualify as memorable viewing experiences of theater pieces, but I wasn't in a theater to see them. Hopefully, a couple of buddies and I are flying up to NYC in July and will see at least four shows there which I'm SURE will rank in next yar's Top 10 list.
