Well, you've read the notes, you know the story, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently doing a production of Schmidt and Jones's I Moo! I Moo!

I am here alone.

It is cold but will get warmer as the day moves on. By the weekend we may have temperatures in the 60s. We are also scheduled for rain so the slush/snow that is left will be gone soon.

Good Morning!

I'm up, I'm up... And I just checked the weather forecast for the next few days for Birmingham, AL.  The temps are supposed in the upper 60s and lower 70s for most of the time I'm there!?!?!?!  Guess I may have to edit a few pieces of clothing from my luggage.

So that's why West Side Story isn't on TDF or TKTS

And their pre-Broadway run in DC was, apparently, basically sold out before they opened down there too.

bk - Do you happen to know if John Randall is still with Paul Clausen?  -If it's the same "John Randall". In any case... John was the associate conductor for the tour of Copacabana back in 2000-01.  When the show came to Richmond, we were pit-mates for a week, and I just remember him being very kind and generous with his time and talent.  -It was my first stint as a "local musician".  -And I remember him being with Paul since he mentioned his partner's name, "...Yes, just like the pickle."  ;)

Last night I saw "Three Men and A Baby Grand" salute the The Rat Pack.

Lee Lessack (Founder of LML records), Brian Lane Green and John Boswell. It was a wonderful evening of entertainment and the audience ate it up.

Keeping in mind what BK has said of "Thru Line" for cabaret acts, I think it was lacking here. Unless you knew who sung what you wouldn't know who the were paying tribute to at that moment

. Important to note they were not doing vocal impersonations, but I think for this show to work completely I think they have to present it as Las Vegas type show the Rat Pack did and go from there.

I did overhear some audience members talk during intermission saying they thought it was going to be vocal impersonations. I don't think anyone left though.

The last time I saw Brian Lane Green perform was as Spacepunk in Starmites.

Good morning, all! A day of work, a trip to the pharmacy and grocery, a vist from Ron Raines, and a trek to see BLITHE SPIRIT: this is my day.

When I saw today's headline, I was so afraid it was a Harvey Schmidt obituary and I was quite alarmed. Makes me realize I need to call Harvey and laugh with him for a few minutes. I dearly love him.

DR Jose, all is well with my bank now! Safe travel vibes today, dear friend!

BK, when you're next in NYC, you should grab a studio for a couple of hours and record some of the numbers from the Schmidt-Jones evening at Merkin Hall last Autumn; Estelle Parson's wonderful subway number should be preserved and there were some other wonderful things as well.

I had a nice full night's sleep and I am feeling a littel better today.

I have an appointment this afternoon with my chemo doctor (just for a check up) and I am going to drive myself.

Vixdad cleared all the snow and ice off of my car so all I will have to do is heat it up a bit before I set off.

Reading about the Fantasticks made me think about the wonderful production the Vixter, former DR WFO and I went to see in the summer of 2007.

I had purchased the tickets from a discount email I had received on the internet and when we got to the theatre we were pleasantly shocked and surprised to find that the seats were first row center, center - literally on the stage.  We had to keep our feet tucked under our chairs to be sure not to trip up the actors!!!

During one of the numbers when confetti was being thrown around one of the actors picked up a big handful and came over and dumped in in the Vixter's lap.

Then during intermission we discovered DR Elmore was also in the audience.

After the show was over, dear Elmore brought us backstage and introduced us to Tom Jones who was playing the Old Actor!!!

What a wonderful day!!!

Vixdad is a bit nervous but I figure I need to start getting ready to get back to work.  Since my sudden coughing/choking fits seem to have passed I think I will be safe to drive.

The doctor is only a few miles away, about a 15 minute drive.

I have the rest of the bonus features on BATMAN FOREVER to watch this afternoon and then I'll get straight into BATMAN & ROBIN. It's a bit over two hours, so I likely won't get to many bonuses until into the evening. But I'll be able to finish this up today.

I'm very eager to get to the Blu-ray of PINOCCHIO. I flirted with watching it when I went downstairs last night, but I thought maybe I needed sleep more.

When "Reaching Out and Touching Someone" seems to have lost its magic, you can always go to New York City:

"New York City....the place where people go to 'touch themselves'!"

-- Bono, of U2, commenting after an NYC street

Last night I watched 4 Boris Karloff features from Columbia pictures....released under the Icons of Horror logo.

The first was THE BLACK ROOM, a very expensive looking production from 1935 with Karloff playing twin brothers....some nice matte/double exposure work, but the story was a bit of a drag.  Then we had BEFORE I HANG and THE MAN THEY COULD NOT HANG....a couple of mad scientist dramas with Karloff finding the secret of eternal youth and reviving the dead, respectively.  And then THE BOOGIE MAN WILL GET YOU, a "comedy" with Peter Lorre co-starring.

It took me years and years to find out who had dubbed for Natalie in this movie. (She sang for her in THE GREAT RACE, too.) For years, Warners insisted Wood did her own singing. When I rewatched DAISY CLOVER the other night, I noticed in the screen test version of "You're Gonna Hear From Me," Natalie does indeed sing the introduction to the song in a kind of talk/sing fashion. Then Jackie takes over once Daisy blossoms into the chorus of the song.

I was a tad disappointed in the Wood set - none of the transfers are stellar, I'm afraid.  Daisy Clover has decent color, but is not nearly sharp enough.  Sex And The Single Girl is pale.  Gypsy IS a better transfer of the earlier DVD.  Cash McCall is not a great film.  I haven't watched Bombers B-52 yet, but I understand THAT transfer is ropey.  And Splendor looks okay but not great.

Of the Newman set, I've only watched The Outrage - which I liked.  I'm now watching When Time Ran Out - a stinker, but the transfer, especially for Warners, is great - perfect color.  Will they LEARN from that?  Absolutely not.  In this transfer, Mr. Newman's blue eyes are BLUE.  Compare and contrast with Warners' absolutely wretched transfer of Harper, where his eyes are a pale gray.

So there is no new LIFE tonight. But there is LOST (yeah!).

I am also most definitely going to watch the TOP CHEF reunion show.

Unfortunately i don't get the CW, so i can't watch one of my favs ANTM tonight (the canadian station that carries it does not play in Quebec). But they do reair it on saturday nights. So i can record it then.

I'm not sure if anyone else watches this show, but bravo is starting Season 2 of MAKE ME A SUPERMODEL tonight. I liked the first season. But we don't get bravo here. And the canadian station that shows this is not showing it yet. :(

re: last night's AMERICAN IDOL.

I think that the 2 i mentioned yesterday are 99% sure through to the finals (lil rounds, and the blind guy).

The third person should be interesting. The judges seemed to like jorge the 3rd best. But he was shown so little that i just don't see him being popular.

There were 2 girls i vaguely remember from before who i would love to see go to the wildcard round: the blond country girl, and arriana (17 year old cute as a button who sang ABBA).

I will be very curious to see who gets 3rd and also to see who they pick to sing tomorrow.  And i also wonder since the 3rd tonight is most probably a guy, will they end up selecting 2 girls from the wildcard round. I mean right now they most likely have 6 guys and only 3 girls. That would be kind of weird if there were 8 or 9 guys and only 3 or 4 girls in the finals.

I've been watching a very interesting series called Star Academie. It is basically the Quebec version of American Idol. It's the first year i've followed it. But it's interesting how differently they do things from Idol.

They are on every night except fri-sat.  They have 30 minute shows mon-thurs. These kids basically live in a house and they film them. But on tuesdays either the girls or the guys sing for the judges (in the house). And the judges pick the bottom 3. So one week it is B3 girls and the next week it is B3 guys.

Then on sunday they have a big 2 hour spectacle. Last week Celine Dion was on (her husband is one of the judges and their mentor).

It was really something. They all did duets with her. And then the bottom 3 (girls this week and guys last week) sing.

But the interesting part is how they decide who goes home. The public saves one person. And the judges save one person. It's pretty cool.

Also the judges seem to give a lot more advice. The songs are mostly in french. But the contestants are allowe to sing in English if they want. One girl did the most amazing duet with Celine (the song from Titantic).

If that's where the talent leads, so be it. South of the equator equipment should not be a consideration. I believe the final 36 was male-heavy in the talent category - and so I expect the final 12 to be male heavy as well.

I did watch CSI: NY while I ate lunch.  very predictable murder mystery even though it did have an intriguing premise. Turkey buzzards played a big part in the story, and the scientists were kind of shocked by them. They're VERY prevalent here.

Good Afternoon!

Greetings from Birmingham!

My flight made it in on time, with no bumps or other turbulence along the way. I've just checked into my hotel room, and just need to take a little breather before I walk over to the convention center to check out the space.

SETC has been here before, and it was nice to see that they opened up the lobby and check-in area. With this many people - 3500+ - they'll need all the room they can get. They also had some free chocolate and surprisingly decent champagne at check-in too. I may go back for another glass.

*The only "minus" right now is the lack of free, wireless Internet access in the hotel rooms. It's available in the public areas but not in the rooms. Additionally, the in-room access is via cable/ethernet. I also thought it would be free for Starwood Preferred Guest members here - like it is at other Sheraton's, but it's not.

I am sorry about the lack of free internet access.  I hope your room is nice!

If you go back to the lobby have some chocolate and champagne for me!

DR vixmom - The lack of in-room Internet access is truly a minor inconvenience. I could pay for it, but since I'll be out of my hotel room for up to 12 hours each day, well... At least I can still post via my iPhone.

My "Tower Room" is very nice, and since I'm on the SPG floor I get free breakfast and afternoon cocktails and snacks. Also, when I checked in, I heard the glorious phrase, "You are all set. Your room charges have already been taken care of. Enjoy your stay." :)

I'm happy for the news of DR Vixmom!

My mum got reasonably good news from her dr's visit today regarding the abhorrent swelling of her thigh.  We went to her ortho to find out if it was something related to the steel rod, x-rays showed that it wasn't, but didn't rule out the possibility of infection or blood clots, so we went off to the hospital for lab work and a Doppler (I didn't know you could get a weather forecast from a thigh).  Doppler showed no blood clots, so now we await the results of the blood work.

Here's a video from Comcast.net about Too Much Twitter? (http://www.comcast.net/data/fan/html/popup.html?v=1051029159)

The segment is taken from Fox News, but they show a bit that Jon Stewart from "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" did and that's pretty funny.

The only problem with the clip is that it's supposed to be 3 minutes 7 seconds long, but it just stops at 2 minutes and jumps to the next clip. :P

NEARER MY GOD TO THEE?

RE: IDOL (not the show tonight, but the comments DRS Der Brucer and MattH made).

I totally disagree with what you both wrote (re: the talent in the top 12 being totally based on talent and not on male vs female).

I'm not saying there should be 6 and 6. If there is more male talent, then i don't mind that the top 12 reflects that. But i'm not okay with there being 9 guys and 3 girls.

I"m sure the judges have numerous factors that they consider. But i definitely think that it is important for the show that there are enough female contestants.

Someone should remind him of Myra Breckenridge.

And also remind of his recordings of

No need to remind Rex Reed about MYRA BRECKINRIDGE. He savaged it more than any other critic in the country, including his own work in it. He knew it was a no-win situation, so he called it what it was.

Next, I watched the IDOL results show. I can't argue with any of the choices though I might have preferred Von to Jorge. Still, they're all worthy additions to the finals.

I was FURIOUS that the obnoxious Tatiana was chosen for a wild card slot. I was very happy that Von and that wonderful male singer from Semifinal Week 1 was also one of the possibles still in it.

Balderdash, DR Jennifer! Let the people sing and let the sex chips fall where they may. I want to hear the best singers, and from the three weeks of semifinals (that's really all I have to go on), the men have been far better than the women. The cream will rise to the top anyway. If a woman is the best, she'll win regardless of whether she has one other woman in the finals or five other women. We have had four women winners to three for the men.

I'm back from BLITHE SPIRIT, a wonderful comedy in a really good production. Lots of dropped lines tonight and I think the show, when it's solid, will really run like a house on fire. Lansbury's energy, for her age, is amazing, although she was the most guilty of the dropped lines. I miss the original three act breaks but the play's a masterpiece of comic structure and I had a wonderful time.

I was just doing a search on FACEBOOK using the Classmates seach for Phoenix HIgh School 1982...oy, the people I graduated with did not age well! And a vast majority of them have as they main Facebook picture, a snap shot of them holding a beer.  ::)

However, I did locate a couple of buddies of mine from my drama class days. I will see if they remember me.

Tonight I finally watched the 25 short films for the festival. There were some really good ones.  I haven't been a judge for this before, so I don't know if I'm rating too high or too low compared to other judges, but I tried to be as consistent as possible among the entries, so I'm pleased about that.

I'm also pleased I managed to get this done tonight. With the trial prep and all sorts of other things going on, I was afraid I wouldn't find the time to do it.  Now I need to get some rest so I can dive in again tomorrow.

I'm so glad I had the break I had going to New Orleans.  It's made returning to the madness a pleasure

DR MBarnum  - have you picked up the Retromedia Boxed Set of HERCULES movies?   I did.  Strange mix of pan and scan and anamorphic widescreen, but a treasure trove for pepla fans.

Am I long time lurker ? yes .  Maybe everyday for 3 years.  I can already tell posting is going to take me a few days to figure out.   I actually feel like I know everyone from your pictures.  I've been talking to a friend of my about memories from the 60's and 70's,  and think I will try to use a small photo from those days for this site.  Let's see if this post works.

Welcome longtime lurker and new dear reader Sam.  If you click on your name (on your post) you'll find a menu bar at the left and from there you can go into account settings and profile settings and select various options including uploading a photograph for your avatar.

I just looked up the word of the day in the dictionary.  I'm laughing because I can't figure out how to use it in a sentence.  Is it connected to food and caterpillars or oil and money ?  Posting will be good for my spelling, I'm from the days before spell check, and will try not to use it.  I still look things up in the filling cabinets at work instead of the computer, I find it a lot faster (for me anyway).  The name Sam is a nickname from Jr. High (now it's called middle school here in California), I was there yesterday to vote.
Remembered that we all had cooking, sewing, wood shop, auto shop, printing, dancing (remember square dancing class?) Not one boy in cooking or sewing, not one girl in wood shop or auto shop.  Those classes are gone now, but if they were still available I think boys and girls would be taking both.  See you tomarrow.

Poor Sam doesn't know about WUSSBURGERS - our dear readers who are so OLD they can no longer stay up past ten.
